oh you trickster you
One of the ones who hadn't seemed to mind was a very curvacious dark-haired woman he had met by chance one evening. Adam had been visiting New York City and there she was, preoccupied, watching someone else across the restaurant. Adam had approached her and as things went, they had ended up in bed together. She had the stamina of a god and knew every way to make his body respond.
He had been with a few women since then but he often thought of her. The woman had called herself Eve, and while Adam knew it was probably a fake name and a joke off his own, that's how he thought of her. Even now, months later, he thought of her. Adam was visiting New York again and while he was in a different restaurant he couldn't help but wonder if there was any fate or destiny in finding Eve again.
mmmm yes, mhhm.
"Hullo, stranger." She grinned. A hand came to his shoulder and she turned around to peek at him from his arm. In truth the restaurant was a cover for her and she idled around under the title of manager to this very delicate and fine dining restaurant. It had class, she liked that, and it had quite the style of people flowing in; she liked that even more. Not only did she pick a few lovers for her tastes, but she picked a few friends in politics, in mafias, in plain ole inheritance benefactors: which she also used to toy with and plot with. The scandals she ran in Midgard, the scandals she ran, and all over a simple flirt of dinner. It had the gentlemen coming back for more, it had the lady's calling her for secret meetings, it was her favorite mischief at the moment.

"You look good. I wasn't sure I would see you here."
And because he was the blunt man he was: "You're pregnant?"
no subject
"Come, I'll sit you in a private room," She took his hand and led him through the dinning room and into a closed off section that opened up into a red hallway, there she picked the third room and had him sitting with an order of fine red wine on the way, and some beer.
"Mind if I sit with you a moment? Or was it me you came to see anyway?"
no subject
"I'm in town for business but I'm here tonight, for you. I was hoping I'd see you. I take it you work here?"
no subject
"You would be surprised the clientele I have here. Let me share with you?" Her hands smoothed over the black table cloth and her eyes moved down his face to his lips, then off his chin to his shoulder. "Business persons, of upmost importance come to eat at this restaurant and while they discuss their money griping and greedy needs, they enjoy the food I manage here: more so they agree to this atmosphere." Her hands lifted from the table and she gestured around their very private nook in the hallway. Then those hands moved to give her stomach a gentle caress, before they settled back to the table.
"In one room, the president of one company plots the demise of his competitor –– and in the other room, that very same president's predecessor is modulating the president's time, hoping to expire him sooner than later." She smiles, and a gentle shake once of her head. "It's the same with district attorneys, police chiefs, state senators, as it is with crime lords, wife killers, sexual predators, and so on." A small pause and she shrugs, almost apathetically adds. "They all enjoy their steaks and wines. Potatoes and pasta. Under this roof, it doesn't matter, because their plates are cycled around and eventually they'll all eat off the same plate given to them by me." A soft grin.
"Yes, I work here."
no subject
Being ex-police of course he took interest in her story. When she was done speaking, he couldn't help but note that she was telling him all of this. "So you cater to a clientele that appreciates some discretion, I take it? Doesn't that put you in the middle of things?" He would hate to hear about on the news the obviously intelligent and savvy businesswoman getting into trouble because of the kind of customers she catered to.
"I hope you have good security on staff."
no subject
"I cater to happy couples on their wedding nights, to people and their mistresses–– it's just a point that I know discretion; and irony." Now, she thought, he was ready. "This child is yours."
no subject
He didn't know much about pregnancies but she wasn't huge yet. Four months might be about right. He took another sip of his beer and set it down before he unfolded his legs and leaned forward again, elbows on the table.
"I wondered, when I first saw you." Adam thought of the speech she had just given about the powerful people that ate here and her dealings with discretion and irony and he wondered what, if anything, that had to do with her informing him of this child. If there was a connection he could not see it immediately.
That she intended to keep the baby was obvious. He wasn't even sure what to say next, so he said the first thing that came to mind. "Do you know if it's a boy or girl?" And then it struck him: his life had just been changed forever.
no subject
"What kind of business do you have here?" As if it were a simple exchange of topics like weather to sports.
no subject
He leaned back and rested his hands on his thighs, he wondered what his father would recommend in this situation.
"I'd like to be involved as much as I can in the pregnancy and afterward. I'll pay child support." Adam wondered if she'd like him to relocate here, and what his boss would have to say about that. This was very sudden.
no subject
This was honestly the first time she had to face this sort of willingness. "Nor do you need to change your life for the child's."
no subject
"Even if you don't need the support, I'd like to be a part of my own child's life. I -- I don't have any other children. I know it's not a love story for you and me, but it will be for me and her."
His eyes focused down to what he could see of her stomach and he knew, without a doubt, he would love his daughter. He thought he'd be a good dad, not that he had ever thought about it before, but he thought of it now and he was certain. Adam looked back up to the mother-to-be.
"Is Eve your real name?"
no subject
"My name is Loki Laufeyson, I'm the God of Mischief, or mayhem, or misrule, the list is quite long, I assure you." She paused, Jensen's food was delivered, fresh bread and a salad as well for sides should he choose them. When they were alone once again she continued. "I come from Asgard, keeper of the nine realms," A finger pointed up to the roof. "Mmhhm." She coldly smirked and dropped her hand. "And you would be the first mortal I allowed impregnate me for some time. Your daughter, since you must know what you ask for, will be expected to do great things, and she will reign this district in my stead when I leave.. when I deem her old enough and ready."
no subject
He could only say one thing pertinent.
"Prove it."
no subject
no subject
But she was crazy, or just plain weird. Did that matter? He wasn't sure.
"I don't know what is going on here. I don't believe you. I don't know what Asgard is and I don't believe in any god." Simple and to the point, he wanted to get that out there. "But if you want to continue some kind of relationship with me, I would be interested, if it means being a part of our daughter's life." It wouldn't be based on love, not at first. But Adam could see himself coming to care very much for Eve if only for the fact she was the mother of his child (something he was still wrapping his mind around).
no subject
"You'll believe in a god before this is all over, I promise you that." There was nothing like the mortal's realization of what she was, a god –– beautiful, powerful, strong, willing, and terrifying. The expression to the faces of these mortals in their moment of realizations were better in this age than they were in the long ago years.
The years when mortals believed more in gods and wrath than what they believed in now.

"Your place. Want to give me an address?"
no subject
If any such father would find it in their emotion to do as such. For no father of mine had been ever moved to weep for myself.
no subject
After a few minutes of awkward silence he looked up again. "Have you picked out a name?"
no subject
"You are not pleased, I can tell that. Why force yourself these obligations when you need not bother?"
no subject
"Because it is an obligation, and a responsibility, and I intend on taking on the responsibility to the best I am able to. To be blunt with you, Ev- Loki, I don't know you very well and I have to take into consideration the welfare of my daughter. You have to understand from my perspective you sound really off with your talk about gods and all that."
Adam knew he might sound stupid but he continued, because he meant every word of what he said. "It would be nice if I could be a positive influence in our daughter's life. I'd like for her to grow up knowing she had a dad that loved her and wanted to be there for her, but more than that I want to actually be there for her. I want to protect her, make certain she's being taken care of properly, and that she is happy, well-adjusted, and loved. That's what I see my role as being her father. It's not about whether I need to bother or not, it's about what I would like to see for my kid and how I'm able to help make that happen."
no subject
"Very well." She accepted his answer and brought a hand to her chest in a light apology: "I'm sorry for judging you too quickly, thus I shall wait and see." Her hand moved from her chest and settled on her lap. "As you will wait and see for yourself, that I am a god––hm."
