the floor is lava

Just share the bed with me.

For whatever reason, the floor is unacceptable as a place to sleep. It's messy, the dog is there, THE FLOOR IS LAVA, or maybe there's flooding. Who cares why it's not acceptable, it just isn't. Normally, that's not an issue, but tonight you have a friend over. Maybe it's the safest place, maybe it's hurricane season and your house is the only one out of the path of the storm. Stop trying to figure out the details, just get over it and share the bed with that person! Sexy times are not required. Intimacy is not required. Just share the damn bed already.

Do you need options? Here! Have some options!

1. It's late. You're tired. Too tired to drive and THE FLOOR IS LAVA.
2. It's late. You're drunk. Too drunk. Honestly, how did you drink that much and not die? Should we take you to the hospital? Here, just stay in this bed with me. No, you can't sleep on the floor. THE FLOOR IS LAVA.
3. It's early. You thought you'd just come by and visit but you can barely function. The bed seems inviting. Guess what, you're invited into the bed! Yes. The bed. Not the floor. THE FLOOR IS LAVA.
4. DO YOU LIKE TO SPOON? SPOONING IS OKAY. And yes, the floor is lava.
5. Figure out a reason why you need to share the bed.
6. The Crack Fun Insane Option - Actually Play the Floor is Lava Game!! Move about the room without touching the floor... because the floor is lava.

late because of unexpected circumstances but i'm here. 5, and godspeed.

[ he was used to sleeping alone.

solitude was a house in the middle of the desert where he'd made haste to forget the names and faces of his classmates after the garrison kicked him out. it was where he'd spent countless ticks searching for purpose. and for all the attachments keith never formed as an orphan, he'd taught himself to survive by being independent.

fighting insane galran space monsters that shoot death rays out of their eyes changes a person. keith understood, above all, that combining into a giant defender robot required teamwork. and while they'd gotten a hell of a lot better at forming voltron after thwarting numerous threats, princess allura always stressed the importance of bonding and team-building exercises. it made sense, but keith's determination to push through and uphold voltron's mission statement no matter the circumstances didn't change the fact that she at least should've let them share a bigger bed, damn it.

the wall was at his back and his arms were crossed. the jutting angles of their bodies were at odds in a way that felt familiar enough, elbows and knees in competition with soft flesh, and tension came over him whenever lance decided to move, which, given that it was lance, happened just enough to finally provoke a response. ]

Lance. [ keith furrowed his brow, a bite of impatience in his voice. ] Lance. Stop pressing against my bayard.

[ Lance has always been used to living in cramped spaces with other people. Coming from a big family and then moving onto dorm rooms, he's never had the luxury of privacy. That is, until recently. Living in a gigantic castle with plenty of rooms to spare had seemed like heaven in its own right at first (seriously, he could masturbate whenever he wanted to and no longer had to wait for his turn to use the bathroom), but now that the novelty has worn off, Lance has been... well, feeling lonely.

Everyone just sort of does their own thing. Even Hunk of all people keeps himself busy.

So upon receiving the suggestion that they share rooms, he'd been partly relieved. Like he was going to ask someone to spend the night in his room like a 12 year old girl who wants a sleepover.

His excitement was short-lived, though. As a bonding exercise, they had to pair up with the people they knew the least. And despite his protests and argument that he should room with Allura and get to know her a little better, he ended up getting stuck with Keith.

Whatever. No big deal.

Except Keith is so tense that he somehow manages to make the whole situation even more uncomfortable. Lance can feel his eyes on the back of his neck as he unconsciously mirrors his position, furling his limbs and trying to make himself as comfortable as possible without having to back right up into the other boy. They're both lean and small enough that it's an easy fit, but they're long-limbed and stubborn. It's a bad combination. ]

Oh. Is that your bayard? You had me worried there for a second. [ The sarcasm in his tone barely covers up the obvious strain in his voice.

But after a second thought, he jerks upright, whirling around to verify that what's pressing into his ass is indeed a bayard. ]

Wait!! What are you doing bringing your bayard in here?! You know it's not going to be pretty if that thing accidentally activates. [ Like sword in his ass not pretty. ]

Why is the floor lava? Is this some inferno planet? Ahem. 1, 5? Things???

[Ten thousand years of slumber does things to one's memory. Add the physical drain of powering a fortress-sized ship, baby-sitting five rambunctious paladins and a royal advisor to that, and it's no wonder Allura took a wrong turn somewhere in the poorly-lit labyrinth of Lion Castle that evening.

She'd spent many a late eve exploring the halls she once navigated prior to her cryo chamber-induced slumber, but even in all the time she had spent there, she still hadn't conducted them all to memory.

She knew the room she slipped into wasn't her bed chamber--it was in an entirely separate wing of the castle--but there were a slew of unoccupied barracks considerably closer to the command center. Surely she could catch a few winks and still wake the next morning before any of the paladins knew the better of it.

It would be her luck that out of all the barracks contained in this ship, she would choose to retire in one that was already occupied.

She couldn't even muster a yawn, sitting on the edge of the bed and kicking off her boots before collapsing on her side and half-heartedly tugging the stiff blanket over her shoulders, burrito-ing herself and curling herself in a tight fetal position as her heavy head sunk into the edge of the single pillow.]
