Amnesiac Romance

AMNESIAC ROMANCE

You have no idea who you are.

One day, you just woke up from the darkness, confused and alone. You barely remember your own name, much less why you're here...or where here is, even. Your own body is strange to you, and if you have some kind of power or ability, that must be frightening. Perhaps you're angry at everything so new and different, lost in this strange world you don't understand or know your own place in. Maybe you feel the need to hide away, lest you be crushed by everyone out there who is sure to hurt you.

You are so, so alone.

Only you're not. There is one person, one person who's found you and taken you in. They've shown you kindness, looking after you while you can barely look out for yourself. Out of the goodness of their heart, they've shown you things, taught you things. Most importantly, they're giving you a new sense of identity. And for that, you've begun to appreciate them. More than words can say, actually. You care for them so deeply that your heart hurts around them. Is that normal? What is this feeling? You can't imagine life without them, and leaving them- That's something you could never consider. Is this lov...

The word's on the tip of your tongue, but you can't figure it out, exactly. What you can figure out is that you want to give everything you can to the person who's done so much for them. You want to stay by their side and make them happy. You want to protect them at all costs.

So no one would blame you for getting confused when you see them with someone else or getting angry when you believe they're in danger. And certainly it's only natural for you to get frustrated when you want to tell them what you think of them, what they mean to you, and you can't figure out what to do. Perhaps following instincts will do?

One thing you know is that this bond and these emotions will never go away, not even when you learn who you are.

RULES
- This meme is for examining what happens when someone with no memories, potentially someone with powers or skills that could be dangerous at the very least, develops deep feelings for the person who's taken them in or is helping them realize their past. It can be played as awkward, adventurous, tragic, cracky, fluffy, truly romantic, or anything in between. You can play at the beginning, the part where emotions have strongly developed, or even when the amnesiac has regained their memories and must now deal with new feelings.
- Reply with your character and preferences. Mention if you'd like to play the amnesiac, the caretaker/help, or both.
- The role of caretaker does not have to always be beneficial. Maybe they caused this condition in the first place so the other character would be dependent, loving, and loyal towards them.
- Reply to others and play.

This is going to go so well

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-16 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Working with Carolina had honestly given him a new perspective on things and while he knew the day was coming when it was going to end, because he could feel himself weakening, he was going to do his damnedest to at least help however he could.

Running into Felix and Locus at the temple with the true warrior test thing? More or less expected, but this though?

Another person joining them in a painfully familiar suit of armor?

Had his normal blue color flaring red as his gaze settled on the armor he knew so well and the flare of rage was enough to bring Omega to the surface, even if he'd been controlling him well enough to that point.

"Fuck." It's out before he can stop it. "Tex? How the fuck did he get you back?" The Director had erased all of it. He'd /fucking/ sent her on to rest and closed that door himself. But there she was.

Standing there staring at them and something inside him twisted, Epsilon about to step out of Carolina when her voice brings him up short, snaps him back to reality. And then they're gone, leaving the mercenaries and Tex there, because they have to keep them from finding the sword.

But it's not where his mind is now and even though Carolina manages to talk him down, now that he knows, he has to do something about it. Which is how it starts.

He leaves Carolina that night, though, talking Caboose into taking a walk with him and it becomes almost routine for him to do this. Caboose of course loves it, but Epsilon?

Is half hoping to run across her, and even if there's a fight, at least Caboose isn't totally defenseless.

He'd ended it. He'd fucking laid her to rest twice already and why the hell DID people keep bringing her back?
hatesgoodbyes: (ambivilant)

even worse than he could have imagined

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Protocol stood, she maintained her place away from the rest and stayed alert. She was what she'd always been trained to be, the best. Carolina hadn't been thrilled with her arrival but it didn't matter so long as she knew her place. There weren't leaderboards out here, it was the mission and the sooner it was done the sooner she could be anywhere else.

So yes, the blue marvel and his puppet could find her easily enough, she hadn't moved since taking up her post. Her rifle rested low but ready and rock solid, only the helmet turned to scan the horizon around her. Her back was to the rest, but she hadn't made it this far by being oblivious.

"I've got the watch, I don't need relief."

Basically.

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
As soon as she was in sight, he left Caboose in the shadows of the trees, stepping out into view in full size form and walked forward until he was facing her.

"...They brought you back." Flatly, his gaze locking on Tex as he stood there. "After everything, you just... What the hell are you doing with them, Tex? Do you even know what they're trying to do here?"
hatesgoodbyes: (church)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Back? I get reassigned all the time, nothing new about that. New planet, same shit. Put down Innies here, roust squatters there, clear the road. It's what we do, because others don't have the balls to do it." She hated getting lip from the others, worse when it was an uppity AI.

"Mission assignments get handed out, you do them and you move on. What more is there to know?" ANd why the fuck should she care? For that matter... "I've got nothing to explain to you."
memory_unlocked: (Default)

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's new and disturbing in a way that would have his fingers digging into his palms if he'd been in a suit of armor, although he's at least able to clench them into fists, his illusory gun vanishing.

"...You don't know who I am, do you? And I'm not talking about the mission, Tex. I'm talking about you and the Tex I know wouldn't be working for someone like Hargrove. Not after everything you've been through.

That we've been through."

hatesgoodbyes: (scuffed armor)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"You're an AI." She shrugged. Not uncommon in the program, she was supposed to get paired with one when they had a new run.

"Pretty sure I don't know you, but if you've heard of me you haven't heard enough. I get the job done, whatever the job is. It's what I do." No matter where the orders came from, it was her job and she was the best at it. But that last bit...

"We? Look fucktard, I don't need a lecture from some self important pocket calculator."

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
So not only had he managed to somehow bring her back, she didn't remember anything. "...So you don't know who you really are." There's a simple means of rectifying that, if he's willing to do it, but the first key is getting her to remember.

"Do you remember anything about Project Freelancer?" It's somewhere to start anyway. "The Alpha, the other AI? Your team?" And he's really glad Carolina isn't here to hear him say that because this?

Is going to be hard enough on her as it is. Her competitiveness with Tex alone is enough of an issue.

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
She turned, her stance a little defensive and wary now. Who the fuck was this fucking thing? Why was he setting off red flags for her? "Back off." It wasn't her voice this time, it was the modulator. Gruff and masculine and still carrying that hint of Omega's influence on her. It was like a stain that never washed out.

"Freelancer failed, crashed and burned. It happens." And when it does it gets replaced by something bigger, better, stronger. The rest of what he was saying made her step away a pace, buzzing in her ears ratcheting up that antsy feeling she got before things wen't fucking pear shaped.

"Got nothing to say to you."

If he'd actually been human, he might have been half holding a breath but the sound he makes is somewhere between a bitter laugh and a snort. "That'd be a first, Tex. You've always had plenty to say to me in the past."

For a lot of reasons. Still, he didn't move away.

"If you ever want answers, you should consider switching sides. We could use all the help we can get and if you're willing to honestly help the people of this planet? You'll get a lot in return.

But you're better than this, Tex. Better than these mercenaries."
hatesgoodbyes: (ready...aim)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
She snarled turning on him, the rifle came up but froze. What the hell stopped her? Sure it couldn't do jackshit to him but still it would make her feel better. A gesture of her irritation with him, but...

"Christ you're an asshole." Why the fuck was she even here working with schmucks like this? Idiots and bitches all around her and she couldn't even really honestly point to what the mission objective was. Things didn't make sense, not completely and she didn't care for things that didn't fit into boxes.

"The hell do you know about me anyway?"
memory_unlocked: (Default)

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I get that a lot." And there's even the hint of a smile in the words. The question though has him still because he has two options here and if he starts this shit up again, it's just going to repeat the same patterns as it had every other fucking time.

But it's not him bringing her back this time. He'd let her go and put her to rest and the fact she's here now is wrong. She shouldn't be here, be the tool of someone like Hargrove.

So there's really no choice when it comes down to it and maybe she'll forgive him this time, maybe she won't but she deserves the truth.

He can do that much.

"I know everything about you."
hatesgoodbyes: (wtf cockbite?)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Bullshit." There was no way he knew anything about her, they just met. Maybe he had files or maybe there had been a briefing. Which meant this was all part of the mission. She was being monitored, they were watching her.

The fuzzy feeling in her head wasn't going away and she tried to literally shake it. No effect, no clarity. She needed some air, maybe she could take a breather, just rest somewhere and get the fuck away from him and all the crazy this place had. Like that other blue guy? The retard? What the fuck was up with him?

"You should leave." Because... because.. she wasn't sure why. But it felt like things were too close to a point of imbalance.

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"You could come with me, you know." Because leaving her here just feels wrong, but on the same note, he should probably get back before he's really missed.

Carolina is going to rip him a new one either way for running off, but it wasn't like he had a choice.
hatesgoodbyes: (evaulating)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"And do what?" It wasn't like there was anything to do with the rest of them. They didn't like her and she just made people nervous.

"Hey, what's your name anyway?" She shouldered the rifle and turned in the direction he'd come from, apparently she'd decided to come along.
memory_unlocked: (Default)

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Well we could use the extra help." Even if it was likely to get him killed. "Hargrove is trying to kill everyone on this planet so he can use it for his own plans. Not exactly the best guy to be working for."

And then he's quiet for a moment at the question. "...Church. My name is Church, or Epsilon, depending on who you ask."
hatesgoodbyes: (jesus I hate you)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"From what I've seen you could use all kinds of help. Who taught you idiots how to fight? Your grandma?" They were either lucky or had some kind of hidden skills she hadn't seen yet. "You seem to know a lot about Hargrove."

Maybe this was an intel gathering AI, they were usually more analytical though. "Epsilon?" She sounded dubious. "Church huh? Na, you're an Asshole, it suits you."
memory_unlocked: (Default)

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, he's been working behind the scenes for years, picking up the remnants of Freelancer, trying to get his hands on anything and everything." Including him.

"We've screwed up his plans before and he's real fond of us, let me tell you." Epsilon shrugged a shoulder slightly.

"Call me whatever you want, Tex, you always did. Besides I am an asshole. Always have been. Doesn't change the fact I'm still a hell of a lot better than your current boss."
hatesgoodbyes: (scuffed armor)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Nobody calls me Tex, it's Texas." But she was thinking over the rest of what he'd said. Motives behind missions, was this all just some power play? Whay, what would he want with a defunct and fucked up program like Freelancer?

"Freelancer failed, why would anyone be hunting down parts of it?"
memory_unlocked: (Default)

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Because even if the project itself failed, the leftovers from it can still be useful. The equipment alone can provide any number of boosts to a soldier and if you can collect an AI to power it?

Basically, you'd be more or less unstoppable. He's been paying Felix and Locus for who knows how long to keep the civil war going so the people here would kill each other off, at least until we got involved and fucked that up for him too. We got them to truce to face their real enemy."
hatesgoodbyes: (scuffed armor)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-17 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or they are buying someone else's headache. Heard it that the remnants of the project were being destroyed." She didn't so much need help with being unstoppable though that was an appealing though. She was tough, sure but what more could she be?

"So one of these things could make me a one woman army? Where do I sign up?"
memory_unlocked: (Default)

[personal profile] memory_unlocked 2016-05-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You don't." Flatly.

"Not with Hargrove anyway. But when we take him down, there'll probably be plenty of stuff to sort through and if some of it goes missing...."
hatesgoodbyes: (jesus I hate you)

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-19 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"So all you're asking is for me to abandon my mission, go AWOL and join up with a bunch of untrained losers in the hope that maybe I might possibly gt my hands on some mystery tech that may or maynot work?" She cocked her head to the side, helmet tipping to look him square in the glowing visor.

"Don't ask much do you?" But she was considering it, that much was clear. "Why? Why so interested in me, and what I chose to do?"

Oh goodie, the fresh batch of marines was arriving, which meant he had to take some time to introduce himself. The things he did for the good of the U.N.S.C frankly, they were lucky to have him. He could have gone to a research station instead.

Alpha flickers into view before the lined up troopers and looks them over with a vaguely superior smile. He's learned to tone it down some, but frankly in every respect other than lifespan he is superior to them.

"Hey boys, girls and undecideds... I'm Alpha and I'll be your ships AI for the remainder of your stay. If you have any non-annoying questions I'll pretend to be happy to answer them."

It was his most practiced introduction. Some AI liked to be chummy with their crews but... well, honestly most of them wouldn't survive long. It was just easier not to get to actually know any of them. Not that he didn't already have everything on file about them memorized.
hatesgoodbyes: (pic#6476179)

oh that is cold as hell

[personal profile] hatesgoodbyes 2016-05-20 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
There was a bit of shoving and leaning to glimpse the AI, supposedly this ship was getting one of the good ones. Frankly, Allison never cared for them, especially after the accident. Her life had lost the only thing outside of the military that had ever given her real focus so her career had been geared into overdrive.

It wasn't that she'd forgotten her past, you don't lose a husband so shortly after marrying them and walk away without scars. It was that she'd had to learn how to move on; and she had. She'd become an exemplary soldier if one who had managed to avoid long runs on the bigger ships. It had always been Leo's dream to work with the AI that ran things like this. He'd said he could perfect them, make them even more useful by integrating them directly into items soldiers could use.

She had never had much use for the AIs after she lost him, but this time running into a standard ships contingent had her damn near dropping her rucksack.

"Alpha?" She shouldered her way from the rear of the group forward. The little AI looked like a generic suit of armor but she knew that voice. She knew the attitude behind it too, it was exactly the way he got when he knew he was the smartest guy in the room and he was going to have to slow it down for the rest.

She faltered and stepped closer still. "Leo?"
