*By the time Harvey stumbles back to the apartment, it's nearly one in the morning. He knows he's in for it. He had promised for weeks that he wouldn't be late tonight. He had promised to be back in time for the dinner that Eames had been planning for them; a nice, quiet evening together was something they hadn't had in a few months.
His head is pounding and there's a multitude of bruises across his face and he's sure he can feel them on his chest too, because it hurts each time he inhales.
It's been a long time since Harvey's last psychical fight. He prides himself on being able to show restraint but lines had been crossed and really, that drunk bastard had deserved what Harvey gave him.
It just worked out that Harvey was the one who had left with more bruises. But he wasn't going to mention that fact to Eames.
With a tiny hiss, Harvey pushes open the door and steps inside, bracing himself for attack if Eames is up waiting for him. If Eames hasn't left, that is.*

*Eames knows that Harvey is a busy man. He knows that Harvey has put work first since he was given a job, and he knows that he hasn't moved it to the back burner for anyone. Eames is also aware of Harvey's feelings toward him, his willingness to be more flexible for this relationship, and his blatant refusal to ever miss one of their "scheduled" dates.
That is why Eames starts to panic the minute he's late. And the hour he's late, he starts to make phone calls. Harvey's apartment, he figures, is the place Harvey will go first if he's angry or tired or hurt, so that is where he elects to stay.
Eames is on his feet before the door has swung open and his heart has stopped before Harvey opens his mouth.*

*Harvey freezes in the doorway at the sight of Eames and pauses for a moment before reaching back to push the door shut behind him. He tries to smile but, it looks more like a grimace. His expression gives away the fact that he's in a lot of pain and his voice breaks into a whimper (something he never does unless Eames is driving him to insanity in bed).*
H-Hey, sweetheart. *pet names are another thing Harvey usually holds back on* Sorry I'm late.
no subject
*Now is about the point where Eames starts slipping into his "I'm going to freak out and you're going to see it" mindset. His face pinches up in worry and he goes to wrap his arms around Harvey, stopping himself just a few inches away.*
Wh-where are you hurt?
no subject
*Harvey slumps his shoulders which makes him hiss as pain spreads across his chest which leads to him tensing up again. The way he tries to reach out to touch Eames, in an attempt to reassure him is really just pathetic looking.*
I'm fine. Totally fine. *now really isn't the time for bullshitting, Harvey*
no subject
Shut... up. Please, love, don't. *looks completely terrified and sympathetic because, ha, Eames has been through this many times, but Eames actually cares about Harvey* I need to... f-fix this.
no subject
There's nothing to fix, Eames. It's just a few bruises. *and possibly a few bruised ribs and some cracked knuckles that have stopped bleeding only because the blood dried up and started forming slight scabs* I'm okay. I just need some aspirin and sleep.
no subject
Harvey... *touches one of his hips with the tips of his fingers, simultaneously leaning into to brush his lips over Harvey's bruised cheek* Harvey.
no subject
*closes his eyes and breathes out slowly, letting the presence of Eames soak into his skin and he can suddenly relax and feels safe enough to let the quiet whimpers and whines of pain escape his lips* Eames. It hurts.
no subject
*swallows his tears, nods once, and pulls away* H-hospital?
no subject
*whimper* Y..yeah.
no subject
O-okay, I'm... I'll... *shaky breath* Do you n-need me to carry you?
no subject
*lets out a pathetic (and painful) sounding laugh* I think I can... walk.
no subject
*pinches his eyebrows together worriedly* Are you s-sure?
no subject
*very brief nod* Y..yeah.
no subject
Are your... *ragged inhale* ...h-hands okay? Can I hold one?
