rain, rain, go away;

the rain meme

Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

directions

1. Comment with your character, series, preferences, etc in the subject.
2. Roll a number between 1-5 with the RGN for an intensity.
3. Roll 1-15 with the RGN for a situation.
4. Reply to other comments and play the scenario out!
5. Don’t catch a cold!

intensity

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

prompts

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

2. HUMIDITY ☂ It’s that time of the year again when the humidity rises and the rain has two options: make it worse or make it go away. Good luck getting the latter.

3. GRAY RAIN OF DEPRESSION ☂ We all know this one. Stuck in the middle of no where, or right after an argument, or something that leads to angst, the rain decides to express someone’s feelings in a physical form, serious or over the top.

4. QUIET MORNING ☂ Nothing to do, nowhere to be… sometimes the rain is a welcomed addition to a quiet day. Gives you an excuse to stay in, curl up in a warm blanket and a book, maybe a loved one or a cup of hot chocolate. With sprinkles.

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

15. WILD CARD ☂ Was there something I missed? Did you want to roll again or choose your own adventure? Go for it!

8, 15 It must have been one hell of a storm!

Qui-gon had told him to wait by the ship. But he'd felt a disturbance, so he hadn't listened and he'd headed into the storm in search of his Master. Then it started to come down in giant violent sheets, each drop feeling like blaster shots to his back.

But he kept heading toward the feeling of distress in the Force, trying to see anything through the rain. Was his Master in trouble!?

"Qui-gon!" he shouted in vain, the storm likely sucking up all sound to further the roar of it's gale.

Luke's X-Wing is not looking so good. It's actually a bit of a smoking wreck, half-submerged in the solid, sticky mud by the time Luke pops the top and is almost washed right out of his cockpit by the rain. Blowing up the Death Star had been a major, decisive victory, but over the last couple years the rebellion had been steadily losing ground to the overwhelming force of the Empire regardless. They'd been engaged in a dogfight over a bioweapons facility on Kidiet Olgo when his ship had gotten tagged and his choices were to bug out or drop down to the planet and get taken hostage by the legions of waiting troops below.

So when the last of his squad had disappeared (either destroyed, or on their way back to base), and in the middle of dodging tractor beams and ion cannons, he'd made the gamble and taken started a hyperspace jump without calculating the coordinates properly first. Trusting his instincts, and all that.

Turns out, not a great idea. The only reason he hadn't ended up a burnt smear on the planet's soaked surface is because of his quick reflexes, which let him drop out of hyperspeed and pull up at the very last second, skidding his X-Wing across several miles of thankfully uninhabited land before finally coming to a halt.

Attempts to get it back in the air had proven ineffective, so after three hours of waiting in the cramped cockpit for the rain to let up he decided his only option was to get out and find the nearest lifesigns, which had shown up on his radar. He doesn't know what planet he's on, even what star-system he's in, or what the strange, horrible shift across the Force and all of his senses that he'd felt when his damaged hyperdrive had first gone screaming into action. Something feels wrong, so when he hears what sounds like a voice on the wind, he tries to squint through the downright ludicrous amount of rain and trudges as well as he can in its direction. He feels like the Force is pulling him there, though considering his current predicament, he's having trouble trusting in it. "Who's there?? Hello?"

He should probably pull his blaster out just in case, but something tells him he'd have crap aim in this weather anyway. When he finally sees a blurry figure in the distance, he gives up trying ineffectually to shield his eyes from the rain and waves both arms in the air, hoping to snag its attention.

"Hey!!"

Obi-wan had started to feel dizzy, perhaps from the rain pelting him or the Force feeling so equally restless. So, when he finally saw another soul among the onslaught of water, even if it wasn't his Master, relief washed over him and he moved quickly toward the waving hands.

His robes were soaked to the bone and he could hardly see him even once he was upon the man. Wiping at his eyes, he could at least work out that much, that it was man in front of him. "Have you seen Qui-gon Jinn!? I'm looking for him!" he shouted despite being only a foot from the taller man. Obi-wan was still a growing boy of about thirteen, so he still had a foot or two left to grow. He felt an odd wave through the Force which nearly made him crumple as he further looked over the man, not that it would take much cold from the rain making his shiver like a leaf. There was familiarity, but he knew for certain that he did not know him. How odd.

On the other hand, Luke is certain that he's seen that face before. He stares at it for a dumbfounded second before shaking his head as though to clear his mind. He doesn't know any kids this guy's age, especially not ones that would be all the way out here (wherever this is), so go away Force Feelings. He's not talking to you right now.

"What?" He tries to blink the rainwater out of his eyes, to no avail. "No, it's just me and my astromech droid, as far as I've seen. My ship crashed, down that way." He wraps his arms around his middle and jerks his chin over his shoulder to indicate the way he'd come from, the way the kid was heading. The adrenaline burst he'd gotten from dragging his boots through the muck after three hours of sitting in his cockpit and lamenting his luck is starting to flag, replaced with shivers pronounced enough to match Obi-wan's own. He's taller than the kid, but not by too much (he finally gave up hope on hitting a decent growth spurt a couple years ago), and they're both too slight to be out here for too much longer, probably. At least Luke is, spoiled by the heat as he is from growing up on Tatooine. He wants to offer to help in the search, but given what he just saw on the way out here, the only thing shouting into the wind is liable to do is get them both hypothermia. "I'll radio R2 to keep an eye out, but... do you have shelter?" Please say yes, please say yes.

He did, but that meant coming back the way he came and bearing even more of this wind and rain. But it was sounding like they may not have a choice in the matter.

Qui-gon had to be alright. The Force disturbance he'd felt had been coming from this man, that was becoming more clear now. But why? Was he in trouble? What was this feeling he was having? None of it made any sense. Maybe it would make more sense once he was warmer?

"The shuttle I came to this planet on with my Master-" he nodded, blinking away the droplets of rain that seemed insistent on stinging his eyes. "It's this way!" He pointed behind him.

Arms wrapped around himself tightly, he pulled the Force to him, trying to keep his wits about himself as he trudged back toward the ship, occasionally glancing back to be sure the man was following him. There had been no question of trusting him, that trust had seemed inherent, unquestionable. He knew, whoever this man was, he wasn't a threat.

By the time they reach the shuttle, Luke is half-sure he's never going to get dry again. He picks fruitlessly at the thick fabric of his ridiculously orange rebel pilot uniform where it sticks to him, wet and heavy and cold - his lightsaber hilt and his blaster clack together where they're hanging from his eject holster-belt as he tries fruitlessly to wring out small fistfuls of his shirt. "I never thought I'd miss Tatooine." He doesn't yearn for the joy of dumping sand out of his boots and everything tasting slightly gritty, but he feels like he hasn't been properly warm in years now.

He might be taking this rainstorm just a tad melodramatically.

He smiles sheepishly at Obi-wan once the shuttle door is closed again and he can actually hear normal speech instead of whipping winds and lashing rain. He briefly considers apologizing about getting the floor wet, but it would be redundant considering that the kid is dripping just as much. "I'm Luke," he says instead, awkwardly thrusting a hand in his direction to shake. "Thanks. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't heard you out there."

Once inside the ship, Obi-wan stumbled in, quick to take off his outer Jedi robes, weighing him down with all the soaked in rain, just tossing it to the ground off to the side, revealing his own lightsaber strapped to his waist. He'd see about hanging the cloak up to dry later.

Shivering still, and rubbing at his arms, he turned his attention back to the man. A younger man, but he still seemed older to him. Everyone seemed old when you were thirteen.

"Tatooine doesn't get a lot of rain?" he surmised, not familiar with the planet, wringing some water out of his padawan braid, as he further considered Luke. He still didn't understand the odd feeling there. Clearly the Force was trying to convey some meaning, but perhaps he wasn't well trained enough to decipher it's importance.

"Obi-wan." he looked to the thrust out hand, smiling as he took it in a firm shake. Luke seemed nice enough, "And you're welcome. Even if I was looking for someone else, I was happy to help you instead."

That was then that his eyes drifted to the man's belt. To the lightsaber and his eyes widened a bit. Was this man a Jedi? That might explain the feeling he got. But his attire didn't seem very Jedi like, but that didn't mean anything, depending on what his mission might be. But perhaps he wasn't a Jedi at all? Then how did he get it?
