[Jane didn't remember much. One moment she'd been outside her trailer, watching the stars, and the next something big and blue had crashed nearby.

When she went to investigate, thinking it was someone from Asgard, she soon found out differently. It was big and blue alright, but she'd been knocked out so fast that she didn't remember much else.

Still heavily pregnant and due to give birth at any moment, it was safe to say that Thor had been enraged when he'd learned Jane was missing. It was a bold move for the Frost Giants to make and it could spell a very violent war unless Thor and Loki got her back safely.

They had taken her to Jotunheim, but she was only mortal and the weather was so severe she couldn't last very long. No matter how many blankets they threw over her, sequestered in the old temple area.

Fear gave way to the beginnings of hypothermia. Even the giants guarding her were becoming concerned. If they lost her or the child it would be even more bad blood. What they wanted was Thor, but it was said they would take Loki for his crimes as well]

[ Of course the Asgardians would never trade away their golden son, and the adopted war mongering second prince would be more than an acceptable a loss in return for the first prince's child. Even though the royal family disagreed, the voice of the subjects who never liked Loki anyway were loud enough to be reckoned with. So it was to be a trade, Loki returning to his frost giant roots in exchange for the woman.

Somehow, unsurprising really, he escaped. Unfortunately, it was after he had already been transported to Jotenheim, and with his powers not what they once were, he could not readily find his way off the blasted realm.

Eventually he managed to find his way into a hiding cave, what looked like an old temple built into the ice covered mountains and abandoned long ago. When during his exploration he was discovered by the frost giants, he triggered an avalanche over them and buried them in several tons of snow. However, it became apparent that the temple was not as deserted as he thought.

He continued his way in further until he found the object they guarded. Jane.

Standing at the mouth of the cavern where she was held, Loki's lips curled up in disgust. ]

You!

[Jane heard the avalanche, it would be hard to miss even in her confused state of mind. She sat up, buried under a pile of pelts and fur-covered blankets, but still shivering. She'd been dressed for the desert when they'd taken her, not a frosty wintery world.

When she looked up, she didn't quite remember his face. They'd had limited contact, if any at all]

Loki?

[For a moment, she wasn't sure if she should be relieved or terrified for her life. At least the guards had meant to keep her alive, she had no idea if Loki had the same intentions]

[ Indeed the second prince had no such inhibitions about killing her as the frost giants did. She was the miserable reason he was here, stuck in this barren spit of a wasteland. She was the living proof that he did not matter to his so-called family or the world he spent a millennia growing up in, that they would prefer to hand him to his doom than leave one mortal. She was another competitor for affections he could never hope to gain and convinced himself that he didn't want.

And she was really heavy with child.

There was no mistaking that huge bulge extending her stomach beyond the normal girth of even the most obese figure in Asgard. Even under the white pelts of snow wolves and ice bears, it was a very distinctive bulge.

And she was shivering like the death rattle was upon her.

He hissed out a noise of frustration and cast a minor spell, wasting more of his precious powers in an enchantment that should help her keep out the cold better than any layer of dead animal fur can. Until he decided what to do with her, he suppose he could keep her alive. ]

For your information, I am not here to rescue you.

[Jane might have argued that she hardly intended to become captured and no one had warned her about Frost Giants from another realm entirely, but she could hardly read minds.

All she knew was she was on the verge of hypothermia when suddenly the chill of the wind and the snow began to lessen. It was like she was enveloped in an invisible shield and even though her shivering didn't stop immediately, it lessened enough for her to try and stagger to her feet. Stagger being the operative word. She very nearly fell forward, weakened from her ordeal and the pregnancy, but caught herself on her arms before she hit the ground]

What...what did you do to me?

[She needed to get out of here and fast]

Look, more guards will come. There's a whole slew of them and they rotate shifts every hour or so. If you won't help me, then at least....we should work together to get out of here.

[Loki, would you really abandon your brother's unborn child to die in this wasteland? Because that's what would happen if Jane perished]

[ Then it would save him the trouble of killing the child himself, wouldn't it? Not an entirely unpleasant thought as it would be just revenge for what the Asgardians have tried to do to him. ]

A temporary shielding while I decide upon your fate.

[ He tilted his head and considered the idea. It would actually not be hard to take her away from here. He may be weak, but he still had the ability. It would leave him with little energy left, but if he wanted to, he could still transport the two of them to, Alfheim perhaps, where climate was milder and hiding will be made easier.

Perhaps when she gives birth, he can take the child as his own stolen relic, although what he would do with a babe was beyond him.

He considered. ]

Do you know why I am in Jotenheim?

[Over Jane's dead body, that's when he could have her child]

If you're not here to help me, then I have no idea. The guards were saying they wanted Thor....

[Beyond that, she knew nothing of his crimes against his own father and people]

Loki, please. I can't....stay here.

No, you certainly cannot. I imagine you would last no more than another day. Two, if they strive to keep you alive.

[ Musing quietly, he smiled. It was not a reassuring expression. ]

I was to be brought here in exchange for you, for Asgard cannot bear to give up their golden son.

You see, I tried to destroy this barren realm full of horrendous monsters. Very nearly succeeded too had Thor not gone sentimental and stopped me. They agreed to the exchange, knowing the Jotnar cry for my blood and most likely wished to tear my flesh from my bones.

[ All this said with the same malicious smile on his face. He took a step closer to Jane. ]

Do you understand your predicament now?

I didn't ask for any such exchange.

[But hearing how Thor could have prevented all this, even though she didn't know the details, made her frown. Just for a moment. Negative thoughts wouldn't do any good here]

Are you saying this is Thor's fault or my fault? Because it's a bit blurry....

[Fine. If he didn't want to help, she'd just....have to do this on her own. Jane was a smart young woman, she could manage to find some sort of way back home. Then again, Loki looking closer put her on edge. her first instinct was as ancient as time itself. She splayed her hands over her stomach and shut her eyes tightly, unsure where his blow would land, but expecting one nonetheless]

Please don't.

[ Loki stopped, his expression one of terrible bemusement as he regarded the cowering wretch of a mortal before him. He had no intention of harming her or her child, at least, not this way, but he did not feel obliged to inform her either.

Rather, he stood there watching until he finally cocked up an eyebrow and asked, quite simply, ] Have you finished grovelling yet?

[ At that point he decided that he will take them the Alfheim and decide from there. The luscious surroundings of the elves' realm would provide for her until it was time of birth, and unlikely it would be for any Asgardians to look for them there. On a whole, elves were a lot less dangerous than giants, although Loki had no intention of getting them caught either way.

With a sigh, he extended his hand to her. ]

If you are done, take my hand. You have mentioned that we are quite short on time.

[It took Jane a few long moments before she finally decided to look up at him, hating herself for cowering before him. Wasn't he the one who had practically threatened her? Still, it didn't seem like he had any intentions of killing her. At least she hoped not.

After another long moment in which she simply stared at his hand, she finally gathers her courage and uses his hand to help pull herself to her feet. Being as large as she was, her center of gravity was a bit off, making it harder to stand. On top of that she was weak from being out in the cold weather]

Thank you Loki. Do you have a plan? Is there a way out of this place?

[ Loki helped her up easily. Even on his worst day, far be it that he could not lift a mere mortal to her feet. ]

Oh, I would not thank me yet.

[ He looked around as he motioned for her to stand still. There was a trace of Yggdrasil's root in the air nearby, it was part of what drew him here to begin with. If he wanted them to travel to Alfheim through the most power efficient path, they will need to search out that root. However, looking back at her, he realized with growing doubt that she would not be easily mobile at all.

This certainly complicated things. He didn't have the power to take both of them without first searching for the rooted paths of Yggdrasil's branches, however, she didn't look like she could take ten steps without falling over. ]

When will the child be due?

You could have killed me, I think I do need to thank you for not doing that.

[Jane wasn't stupid. She knew she had to stay on his good side]

And hey, once we get out of here you'll be a hero. Odin won't ever trade you again.

[Or atleast she hoped not. That was still pretty screwed up of him to do. Not when the giants were asking for Thor]

The Doctors said a week, the healers Thor brought to me said a few days - and that was few days ago.

[So basically any day now? Any hour now. She wasn't sure]

The baby has been....very still every since I was knocked out.

[ If Jane's point was to stay on Loki's good side, mentioning that Odin had tried to trade him to begin with was a horrible way to start. The whole of the trickster's demeanor darkened like one of Thor's storms, but it cleared quickly when he got a grip on himself. Still, there was an edge to his gaze now.

Although mentioning that the child may already be dead, and be due at any time was not helping to improve his mood. ]

We need to rid you of that child.

[ Closing the distance between them with surprising swiftness, he laid a hand on her belly and closed his eyes. He did not have much power left, and to waste it on a child right now... He huffed with the barest hint of strain and coaxed his magic to life, willing it to first seep into that body and check the child for life. ]

[Yeah, those weren't exactly the best words to put her at ease when his hands were reaching for her stomach]

I was struck in the head, not the stomach! And if you think I'm giving birth here, you're even more unstable than everyone has led me to believe you are.

[She couldn't stop herself from flinching when his hand made contact with the swollen mound of her stomach. Then there's the creepy sensation of something else. Magic? What exactly was he doing? It didn't feel like he was harming the baby, so she held herself still

The infant was alive and well, but had dropped lower in her stomach and had gone still in preparation for birth. Jane really was about to go into labor at any moment]

[ Loki eyed her coolly at her resistance and said, in a rather serious manner, ] I can get rid of it permanently if you would prefer that.

[ He was not risking her going into labor in the middle of their trek to next root's location, not to mention it would be impossible for her to trek in her condition. He wasn't enthusiastic about what needed to happen, but it was necessary.

So with a thin tendril of magic, hair thin and pin sharp, he broke her water. Then stepped back as she went into labor. ]

Please, do try to hurry. We should be on our way.

[Jane was completely unprepared when her water broke. Oh, she knew it was all his fault, but she could only stand there. Completely stunned and with the same wide eyes as a doe caught in the headlights of an oncoming vehicle]

No! Loki.... it takes hours, sometimes even days....

[It's not like she could just pop this baby out at his command.

The first wave of pain made her wince. It was like a steadily throbbing pain in her lower back, but the pain grew as minutes passed. She knew it was the beginning of her contractions.

Dizzy and in pain, she drops to her knees in the snow, eyes shut tight. Unwilling to let Loki see how afraid she was. Far from a hospital. Realms away from Thor and the healers of Asgard - she was out here in this wintery barren wasteland about to give birth]

I need....

[Thor. She needed Thor to be here with her. Minutes pass into hours and the pain grows so intense that she's beginning to make loud, strained sounds, sounds that would draw more guards if they weren't careful]

You need nothing.

[ Unsympathetic and unmoved, Loki merely stood there, watching the woman in her throes of childbirth looking about as impressed as a cow at grass. He frowned at how long Jane was taking with her four limbed human. ]

I have given birth in considerably less ideal situations with twice as many legs and hooves. Quit complaining and hurry up.

[ Crossing his arms, he leaned against the bed of ice she had been on earlier and waited. ]

Did you not say they change guards at every hour?

[Jane gave him an odd look, trying to imagine Loki giving birth to an eight-legged horse. That had to hurt]

I'm not you! Where I'm from women give birth in hospitals! Surrounded by Doctors, parents, and loved ones.

[She makes another pained sound, considerably higher pitched then the last. Maneuvering from her knees to a horizontal position to relieve some of the pressure building up]

I can't do this all by myself! You've got to....help or something!

[It wasn't long before she noticed there were no guards around either. What else could be taking up their attention?]

Maybe....maybe Thor has mounted an attack?

Unlikely. [ Loki spoke casually as if there was not a woman on the ground in labor ]

If there was an attack, I imagine it would be the Jotun mounting one against Asgard for my escape.

[ He gave the woman an annoyed look. ]

Will you concentrate on pushing? I will leave you here if the Jotun return and find you still. [ He probably won't, but he had no intention of telling her that when he wished to avoid such a confrontation to begin with. Best that she took things seriously and got this over with in haste. ]

[She shot him a venomous glare for that annoyed look]

I can't just give birth on command! So either you help or I swear to god I will scream bloody murder until every Jotun comes looking for me!

[That's the pain of her labor overcoming her natural instinct to fear him]

[ To which she will gain another unimpressed look from the god of mischief. ]

Understand this: I can and will leave you here for them to find.

[ What he didn't mention was the mother was not required to be living in order for him to take the child. It would not even be a magical act for him to cut her open and free her of her burden, an idea that was becoming increasingly enticing with her whining.

He let some of what crossed his mind flash across his features. ]
