The Playing Video Games meme

Video games. We love 'em. You love 'em. Let's play 'em. ...That's all there is to it, yep.
1.) Post with your character.
2.) When you reply to someone, roll from the options below.
3.) Play the game. Feel free to pick a specific one if you want, or make up your own random-ass game.
4.) Try not to break the console.
OPTIONS:
1. Dating Sim (eg. Tokimeki Memorial, Katawa Shoujo): Basically obligatory in these sorts of memes. But remember, it's not just about picking whether to stick it in or not! It's also about making sure you don't slack off too much in your studies and workout, you lazy ass.
2. Japanese RPG (eg. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Tales of): Saving the world one scripted overdramatic event after another. Grind those levels!
3. Western RPG (eg. Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Wizardry): Gotta go save the world! ...After I get the rats out of the cellar, and take this scroll to the next city over, and try to find three artifacts for the archeologist at the camp...
4. Management Sim (eg. Evil Genius, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Simcity): I don't know what you're talking about. Having a roller coaster that launches people into orbit is perfectly legitimate park design.
5. Beat'em'up (eg. Final Fight, River City Ransom, God Hand): PUNCH 'EM ALL AND LET GOD SORT 'EM OUT. Try not too eat too many street chickens.
6. First Person Shooter (eg. Doom, Medal of Honor, Half-Life 2): No John you ARE the demons. And then John was a demon. Oooh, motion sickness...
7. Adventure Game (eg. The Walking Dead, Monkey Island, King's Quest): I'm pretty sure that porcelain cat is SOMEHOW important in getting the guard to let you into the club, but how?
8. Platformer (eg. Super Mario Bros, Rayman, I Wanna Be the Guy): Where do all those pits actually drop you, anyway?
9. Strategy (eg. Starcraft, Civilization, Total War): zerg rush kekekekekekeke
10. Survival Horror (eg. Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space): ...but isn't this what 75% of Dreamwidth RPs are ANYWAY?
11. Puzzle (eg. Puyo Puyo, Chu Chu Rocket, 2048): Yeah, I apologize if that last example is giving anybody withdrawal symptoms right now.
12. Fighting Game (eg. Street Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters): ARE YOU KEN? ARE YOU KEN? SURE YOU'RE KEN!
13. Shoot-em-up (eg. Gradius, Touhou, Tyrian): Suddenly, there were bullets! Eeeeeeeeeverywhere!
14. Metroidvania (eg. Metroid, Symphony of the Night, La Mulana): Leaving rooms tantalizingly out of reach until you get the right item for years.
15. Classic Arcade (eg. Frogger, Pac-Man, Lunar Lander): Where pretty much the only thing that matters is the points you get and how few quarters you use to get them.
16. Sports (eg. Tecmo Bowl, NBA Jam, Mario Kart): Because why get fresh air when you can sit on your butt and make touchdowns?
17. Pokemon: Bonus points if it's a Nuzlocke run.
18. Wildcard/Other: Anything I forget to list? Here it goes.
Setsuna Higashi | Fresh Pretty Cure
no subject
Setsuna!
[Fu waved and approached the table to set her laptop down. Then she adopted a dramatic pose.]
Are you ready to receive a lesson in the true art of gaming from your beautiful senpai?
no subject
She was a little surprised she had arrived before Fu but moved to take a seat and quietly wait for the other girl. Her face brightened up immediately when Fu approached and struck her dramatic pose. She had such an interesting way of presenting herself, Setsuna loved it.]
Of course! What game were you planning on showing me today?
[Video games were a rather new experience for her. That's to be expected when you come from a world where you're born and raised to follow orders, there wasn't much time for fun in Labyrinth.]
10 because Fu can't deal with them. I'll let you decide what game it is.
I'm not really sure, I just asked Togo to put one on here for today.
[In hindsight that was probably a bad idea.]
Knowing her it's going to be "Manage your own country!" or "History of Japan Trivia!"
[Togo was also a practical joker, but that didn't occur to Fu at the moment. She opened the game without reading the title.]
Or something like that.
10 it is!
[Unfortunately the game they were chosen had nothing to do with running countries or answering trivia questions. The screen remains black for a moment with only a few long drawn out notes to give everything a very ominous feel. Eventually the start up screen lights up with a picture of a very dank looking dungeon.
Setsuna stares at the the screen blankly for a minute, puzzled by the title.]
Amnesia The Dark Descent? It looks... Interesting, I guess.
Oh God Amnesia.
H-Huh? I've never played this one.
[Maybe it was an RPG, there was a dungeon after all.]
All right, let's go!
[She hits start new game and after the short intro sequence Fu stares at the screen. Everything was so dark.]
H-Hey, this looks kind of creepy.
Best choice.
Sure it looked freaky, but she was confident they could shoulder through it. She leaned in a bit closer to the screen before looking to Fu.]
It is... But we should continue on anyways.
You wanted to show me how it was done, right? Do you want to handle the controls? There's a door up ahead.
[Show her how it's done, senpai]
no subject
[Fu sure as hell didn't and the game had only just started, but she didn't want Setsuna to think she was scared.]
I mean... Yeah, let's do this!
[Even though she spoke loudly, Fu sounded a lot less enthused than before. She swallowed hard and hit the keys to start moving. Moving out of the first room was simple enough and Fu panned the camera to look around the corridor and then at the ground. There were spots of red and pink on the carpet.]
W-What's that supposed to be?
no subject
Her expression hardened a bit more when they came to the liquid on the floor.]
I think it's bloo-
[The camera suddenly starts to shake as a gust of wind blows on screen. Blowing out the candle in the room and shutting the door behind their character.]
-what was that!?
no subject
[The camera goes out of control momentarily, spinning randomly up at the roof and walls before Fu hits the movement keys to get the hell out of there.
A few people in the cafe were probably staring at them, Fu didn't notice; she was too busy running for her virtual life!]
no subject
[Setsuna's pulled a little herself a little closer to Fu and puts a hand on her shoulder. Friendship and support will pull them through this situation, right?
She really hopes it will at least.
Setsuna didn't notice either, she was too busy picking up up on a strange humanoid shape in the corner of the screen.]
What's that!?
no subject
[Fu flinched when she felt the hand on her shoulder, she almost cried out but stopped herself when she realized it was Setsuna's.
Any calm Setsuna had brought to the situation went out of the window when Fu saw what her friend had pointed out. Her eyes went wide at the dark shape on the screen.]
M-Monster! Where's the attack button!?
no subject
Setsuna started to tap a few buttons on the keyboard to see if any of them were an attack button.
They were not.]
There... I don't think there is one!
no subject
[Fu joined Setsuna in some random key-smashing, which actually succeeded in equipping a lantern for a half-second before she hit something else that turned it off.]
Wait! What button was that?
[If she could calm herself down she could probably find the key but that wasn't going to happen, not with the monster edging closer every moment. It was grotesque yet poorly rendered but it was still going to give Fu nightmares.
She turned their character away from the creature and ran off into the darkness in the opposite direction. She was probably running into a wall though.]
No! No! No!
no subject
[And Setsuna jams her finger on a button that only makes them strafe. Not only are they running into a wall, but now they're trapped in a corner too.]
Nothing's working!
[It's then that the monster finally catches up with them. The screen flashes and pixelated blood covers the screen in a shape that resembled claw marks.]
Sorry for the long delay on this.
Ku ku ku~
Mimori Togo, I will have my vengeance from beyond the grave...
[Strangers witnessing this might think she had lost it, but anyone who knew Fu would know it was pretty standard behavior.]
Don't sweat it.
She places a concerned hand on Fu's shoulder again.]
...should we call it quits, or do you want to continue?
no subject
They might ban us from this cafe if we keep playing.
[That was code for "Setsuna you can't make me go through that again!". Fu realized it was probably too late to deploy a smokescreen so she decided to come clean.]
Actually I... Can't really handle these types of games.
[Obviously.]
no subject
[Setsuna finally took a moment to look around the cafe and realized that basically everyone in there was staring in their direction. Some of them were incredibly amused, others not so much. Her eyes then drifted back down to Fu.]
Maybe you're right.
[She blinked at Fu's confession, honestly, she probably could have gotten away with the smoke screen if she had've kept with it.]
To be fair, I don't think I was doing much better.
no subject
Compared to me, you really kept your cool Setsuna!
[Aside from helping Fu trap their character against a wall anyway. She lowered her voice as she began exiting the game.]
You'd think fighting real-life monsters would make these kind of games seem super fake and stupid to me.
[It didn't, not even a little bit. Maybe because facing the Vertex had always been a direct confrontation, in a well-lit environment where she could attack with her full spirit!]
no subject
I just didn't show it as much as you did.
[She shrugged softly and moved to stand up. She offered Fu a hand as well to help her up.]
Everyone's afraid of something. It just how things work, even I am.
no subject
That's hard to believe.
[Fu wasn't privy to the intimate details of Setsuna's past; it didn't seem like a comfortable subject so she rarely asked about it, but she knew enough to know that her friend had lead a hard life up until recently. Setsuna was now a skilled warrior with extraordinary power even though she wasn't a Hero affiliated with the Taisha like Fu. She wondered just what someone like that was afraid of.]
You're afraid of clowns.
[Wild speculation go!]
no subject
[Once she's helped Fu up, she'll start to help clean up the laptop so that they can be on their way.
She paused for a moment and blinked at the comment about clowns. Where did that even come from?]
No, not clowns.
[She debated for a moment just telling Fu about what bothered her, but decided it might be better to wait until their outside.]
You can keep guessing if you'd like.
no subject
[Fu dramatically slammed a fist down onto her palm as a visual representation of her certainty. She took the laptop from Setsuna and stuck it into the bag she'd brought along, but her expression was faraway as though she was concentrating. Then all of a sudden...]
Dogs? Cats? Tofu? Vampires? Magicians? Bats? Aliens? Bugs, it's bugs right?
[And she continued with about a dozen other, likely incorrect, guesses until they were outside.]
A national food shortage! Eh that's actually one of mine... But it's something that everyone should be afraid of!
[Fu was being silly but it was intentional this time.]
no subject
[For each one of Fu's guesses, Setsuna gave a little shake of her head as she followed the other girl to the door.
She tilted her head at the food shortage guess.]
It's not one of mine, but I'm pretty sure that's something that would terrify Love. It is something I might want to be cautious about from now on though.
[...She giggled, then decided to give Fu a veiled hint.]
I have friends like you and her to worry about things like that though, I don't know what I'd do without friends like you.
