It starts out, well, innocently enough. They're pure, untainted, a light that's yet to be touched by this world. Somehow, you feel the need to keep them that way, conscious realization or not, no matter how that seems to go against your jaded character and bitter heart. But maybe those things are your reason. You've been beaten down by the foul weather of this world; they shouldn't have to suffer that same fate. There needs to be someone good left, somewhere. It's a rare comforting thought.

Your feelings are platonic, at the beginning. Then, their light and their infectious idealism begin to touch you, in a way you thought wasn't possible anymore.

Brother used him as a source of income then ditched him. Girlfriend left him for his brother and had a daughter with him then asked Vane to babysit. Got attached to the kid before she was killed in a freak accident. When he tried to investigate her death, he was framed for murder and betrayed by his friends who said he was a violent psychopath. Proved his own innocence by implicating his brother who confessed he had killed his own child because she was never really his but Vane's.

Went muy loco.]

On this morning, Zajora was covered in a heavy garb and sitting near the entrance of her cave. The girl was innocent to the world, but not innocent entirely to the evils of human beings, especially in this day. Invokers were considered the most evil of human beings for tuning their life to a monster god, even if she hadn't done exactly that.

She'd been sought for her wild-spread abilities and for her head, whichever came first. This morning, she was shuffling near the edge of a lake and collecting water while she made sure that no one saw her out of the corner of her eyes. For her to be able to take her morning bath, she needed a body of water and the one in front of her seemed easy enough but if someone saw her even a little? She was done for.

When she was sure that no one saw her, she removed her hood and released the strap that opened the garb. One could easily see her status now, her skin was pale as a ghost with large fins on the side of her head and small patches of scales here and there -- Still mostly human, fortunately for her.

[Despite how she can see/hangs out with ghosts and acts apathetic, Lapis would be the innocent one, since she has very positive views about life.]

[Lapis is such a bright person, despite her stoic exterior, he knows how kind and compassionate she is, how warm her soul is. Too warm to be in the cold dark world. Maybe he's not the right person to be protecting her, to be so close to her, but who else will do it? Anyone else would just ruin that light, dim it, then eventually snuff it out. He can't allow that, which why he's thrown himself into the fight completely.

He snuck into the apartment they shared after a big firefight, heavily injured but still able to stand. He cleaned himself up in the bathroom, stitched up his cuts, yanked out the bullets that buried themselves inside him him, and poorly bandaged himself. He's better than when he came in, now just watching the blood go down the sink as he thinks that somewhere down the line, he knows it will add up. The late nights, the constant danger, the blood he sheds. He knows it'll add up, at least that's what he tells himself.

[Lapis never viewed herself as anyone bright or warm, due to how she acts and what she does. So the fact that Richter does this, throws himself into fights like this, is confusing and she can never figure out why exactly. Maybe they did something to make him mad? Either way, she tended to find herself fretting over him whenever he came back.

Such as now. She had heard the water run in the bathroom from where she was reading in the living room, and she frowns, going over to the bathroom door and knocking. Arms crossed over her chest, debating if she should just teleport in there. Which she will if he doesn't explain.]

... Richter, are you alright?

[Lapis's voice snaps him out of his trance, simultaneously berating himself for forgetting that she doesn't sleep at this hour. He knew he should have just gone to the hideout. He loosens the faucet even more so he can mask his grunts of pain as he forces himself to talk.]

Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Just....tired. The cops ran me ragged.

[He's not lying, he's just omitting the part about being in a cocaine plant of a mob gang. Also the four bullets he pulled out of his body, she doesn't need to know about that.]

How about you?........How's the night treating you?

[Even if Lapis had been asleep, she would have heard him - she has always been a very light sleeper. Her frown deepens when she hears him loosen the faucet before he replies, shifting from where she's leaning against the wall.]

... Were you hurt?

[Her fingers absently tap against her arm, absently playing the fabric of her nightdress as she hums.]

I'm alright. It's been rather quiet tonight, so I've just been reading. [Spirits tend to get louder at night, but for once it's rather calm. Though they could have been focusing on something else tonight.]

Just a few scrapes and bruises. A cut on my arm, but it's just a flesh wound. Don't even feel it.

[He felt the five stitches it took to patch it up though.]

What were you reading?

[He gets the feeling she's not buying his story, but if he can keep her from teleporting inside then it doesn't matter what she believes at the moment.]

[Lapis doesn't respond to that, mainly because she doesn't believe it at all. So she's quiet, shifting to stand a bit more in front of the door now as her foot lightly taps against the floor.]

... It was just some files for a job that's coming up.

[A pause, and then she sighs.]

... Now, are you gonna tell me the truth or am I gonna have to look for myself?

I just told you the truth. God, does this have to happen every single time?

[He quickly, and quietly starts to dress himself just in case she decides to pop in.]

Where's your ghost friend? He's not in here with me is he? I'm not decent, and I don't like the idea of a male ghost ogling me.

[He's pretty much resolved himself to say virtually anything to keep her away.]
