Ten spells you wish you could cast.

(This includes any purely wishful thinking, such as, say, one that summons blueberry tarts.)

1. Shapeshifting into anything, whenever I want, without getting tired.
2. Seeing the future. I don't know if I would use it.
3. Enchanting clothing so it's exactly as warm or cool as it needs to be. And it never itches.
4. Making a pen that writes in any colour I ask it to.
5. Hiding people so they can't be found, no matter who's looking for them.
6. Making people's wills unbendable, so other people can't control them.
7. A spell against paper cuts.
8. One that lets me decide what kinds of dreams I have before I go to sleep.
9. Summoning all kinds of sweets, so you can have your favourites, too.
10. Every other spell I've forgotten. I want to know how to do every kind of magic there is.

All excellent ideas, guaranteed to make life easier. I will help with those I can, but 'tis probably just as well that we have no hope of summoning pastries.

We would get sick of them if we could have them any time we wanted. But it would be nice for a while.

Perhaps the Inquisition has enemies we can fell by throwing pies.

It would distract the enemies' hounds.

Or we could poison cakes and leave them out for Venatori to find.

We could easily do that. They would need to be very compelling cakes, though.

We would make them look like Tevinter cakes. Then they'd be homesick and want to eat them.

1. The smell of elfroot and embrium pounded together. That's the earliest, I think.
2. Eluvians and spaces in between where things echo strangely. Sometimes they're very grey. I like them.
3. A merchant, dwarven, who looks afraid of Mother. She's cross. He's the first person I remember who isn't her.
4. People screaming and bloody. A Blight. It was only a dream for me, but it was real for the archdemon. I don't like this one.
5. Asking Mother for a dog. She says no. Mother doesn't care for dogs; it's funny to hear her talk about them.
6. Traveling in a carriage with scarlet seats and whisper about the people outside it together. Mother tells me about Serault. I'm not allowed to go, and I'm angry.
7. Learning how to bow in Orlais. There's a servant who calls me the little lost prince.
8. Meeting the Inquisitor. Her blood is strange, but she has a friendly face, and the Mark on her hand is almost pretty. I wish she wasn't so busy; I want to ask her what the Fade feels like inside her.
9. Standing on the battlements and look out at the mountains and wonder which direction goes to my father. And I practice shrieking like a hawk, just in case.
10. Hearing you call to me. I don't like this one, either.

You should know by now that your mother's assumptions tend towards the overdramatic. You were never in danger from me. I only needed the soul you carried--a burden I thought you happy to relinquish.

Either you believe me or you don't. It's up to you. I won't waste breath repeating what I've already said.

But you told Mother you were going to take me away. That was your proposal.

A test for your mother. Though had she chosen her freedom over you, I would have kept the bargain.

What if I wanted to stay with Mother?

You could have stayed. And the knowledge of her choice would have burned in her like a poison every time she saw you.
