The Train to the Afterlife Meme

Congratulations: You are dead.

Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone.

Oh look, here comes the snack cart.

All the usual:

  • Post with your character's name and canon in the subject line.
  • Said character is now dead for whatever reason - canon, AU, what have you. They are on a train with other dead people from many other times, places and worlds.
  • Characters don't know for a fact where they're headed - just a general awareness that they're going to some kind of afterlife. Whatever they think it is is up to the player.
  • This meme is built especially for cross-canon interaction, and potentially for threadjacking and group threading - if you're interested, may be a good idea to state as much in your subject line.
  • Tag around and play nice!
  • TRIGGER WARNING: Meme obviously deals with death and may deal with other unpleasant themes as a result. Please be cautious.
peacebyjustice: (Kyoshi has arrived)

are we having another avatar party up in here?

[Kyoshi has been patrolling the train, but she stops when she sees Aang. She stands in front of him, arms folded behind her back.]

So, we meet again.

The thing about an Avatar party is an Avatar party don't stop

[He nods to acknowledge her. Maybe this is the same Aang who just met with Roku, since the other threads are depressing enough.]

Hello, Kyoshi. I guess we're all in the same club now, huh?

[Not-as-depressing is totally fine. In fact, it'll spare him a frowning at combined with unpleasant conversation.]

Yes, we are. It's not all bad, since we're all still a part of the new Avatar.
savedtheworld: (sickly)

Cool cool cool

It's true. I think I've made peace with it. Still, I wouldn't mind being able to live as long as you.

You did spend one hundred years in the Avatar State. That alone took a heavy toll on your original life span. Still, surviving one hundred and sixty-six years, even with most of it frozen in ice, is nothing to scoff at.

That's true. I was kind of hoping that the iceberg years didn't count, since I didn't really "live" them at all. But I always should have known they would have caught up with me. I did keep a healthy diet at least! [Okay, maybe he did go overboard with sweets occasionally but he trained a lot okay?]

[Exercise does burn off calories...]

At least you did, or you might have died sooner. After all, an unhealthy body can't contain a healthy spirit.

I should have talked to you more often, Kyoshi. You're pretty wise. [If harsh.]
peacebyjustice: (can't touch this)

I don't hold it against you. I understand that we had many differing viewpoints in how to handle situations that came up in your lifetime. [Such as Ozai... but we do not speak of this.]

But just because you're dead doesn't mean we can't talk now. If you need advice on being the new Avatar's spirit adviser, as Roku was to you, myself and your other past lives are still here for you.
savedtheworld: (admiring)

[personal profile] savedtheworld 2012-05-21 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
[He just acknowledges the viewpoint thing with a quiet nod.]

Thanks, Kyoshi. I would like to get to know you all better. And I guess even spirit advisers need spirit advisers, huh?
peacebyjustice: (airbending)

[personal profile] peacebyjustice 2012-05-21 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Believe it or not, I needed a little help before I could give advice to Roku that wasn't too brusque. [She had nearly punched Kuruk in the face for telling her she lacked tact in her advice sometimes....]
savedtheworld: (funny)

[personal profile] savedtheworld 2012-05-21 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
[He laughs at this - having had a glimpse of Young Roku, he can imagine how funny that situation was.] I'll need help giving advice that isn't too far in the opposite direction.

Yangchen and I shouldn't have a problem helping you with that. Roku too, I suppose.
savedtheworld: (impressed)

It's a good thing I have so much help! [Pause.] I really will do my best.

We wouldn't expect anything less from you.
