The Train to the Afterlife Meme

Congratulations: You are dead.

 

Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

 

It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone.

 

Oh look, here comes the snack cart.

 

All the usual:

 

• Post with your character's name and canon in the subject line.

• Said character is now dead for whatever reason - canon, AU, what have you. They are on a train with other dead people from many other times, places and worlds.

• Characters don't know for a fact where they're headed - just a general awareness that they're going to some kind of afterlife. Whatever they think it is is up to the player.

[He looks over inquisitively. Something's extremely familiar about her. He just returns a small smile.]

Do you... happen to know what this place is?

We're on some kind of... thing, that's going somewhere. And it's not going anywhere else. I don't know what's going on.

[ she wouldn't ever tell anyone, but... she was actually looking forward to this. it had been a long, lonely time without him around.

so for now she opens the door to the train and seats herself near a window with a sigh, closing her eyes. ]

[Something about this woman seems extremely familiar. Like Katara's grandma, but... looking oddly like Katara. The 14 year old monk steps out from a secluded corner of the train and begins making apprehensive steps towards the her.]

Excuse me, Miss?

[ nnnot opening her eyes yet. she's still pretty tired right now 8( ]

'Miss'? Really now. Should I be flattered?

[ that voice is rather familiar though. ]

[Someone is passing through the hall near your cabin. He stops.]

"...Aang?"

[What are you doing here???]

[Aang definitely recognizes Jet. It's great to see him, but it's not a reassuring sign of where he is.]

Jet? Is that you?

[For a minute, all the freedom fighter can do is stare. He supposes he should have a myriad of questions to ask or confessions to make, but he doesn't; he made his peace when he apologized before his last breathe.]

"It's me."

[Funny thing is, he can hardly remember how long he has been here enough to properly worry about what seeing the world's last hope HERE might mean.]

"What.. are you doing here?"

[Well Aang, you went and screwed it up. You died before you could kill the Fire Lord. Guess who's waiting for you? No, it's not Roku. Or Kyoshi. Or Yangchen. It's Kuruk. He's been on this train a long time now.]

... kid. Too soon to be seeing you again.

Avatar Kuruk? [He examines his surroundings in confusion.] Am I... is this the Spirit World? [Things seem a little too metal-y. But Aang doesn't want to admit that.]

[A nod as he sits back down into a seat.]

The Spirit World takes many forms. This is where souls are taken to their next destination. As Avatars who have since died, we can come and go from this place at anytime.

[Aang will be having some company soon in the form of his old Avatar mentor. Though he knew what it meant for Aang to be here, he kept a comforting smile on his face when he greets him.]

[There Aang was, quietly and diligently sitting in his seat. He had lived a life longer and happier than he could have imagined. And now he was looking forward to being a spirit at last and waiting to help the next Avatar. His excitement was reflected in the youthful shape he took on.

He looked at Roku with a strong fondness. They were finally on the same page.]
