Come in and sit awhile

the Coffee shop meme
Your character finds themselves in a coffee shop:
maybe your character works as a barista
maybe they're just unwinding after a long day at work
getting their caffeine fix in the morning
maybe they're on a date
whatever the reason; everyone's welcome.

In general, Carol is more of a regular coffee kind of lady. But there's something about the seasons bleeding between fall and winter to make her crave a peppermint latte.
Apparently the rest of New York has decided the same, because her favorite coffee shop is packed when she heads in. By the time she has her mug in hand, there's not a seat available except for one all the way in the back. Maybe the man seated at the table won't mind sharing.
"Hey, sorry, do you mind if I sit with you?" It's not until the words are out of her mouth that she recognizes that it's Captain America. (She's been to the Smithsonian exhibit.) Part of her would love to share day-saving captain stories with him. But since he looks like he rather just chill - her goal as well - she'll internalize the excitement.

This coffee WAS quiet, but slowly as the hour went by it started filling up more and more until there was a constant buzz of conversation threading with the radio music piping through the store.
"No, go ahead." He offered Carol a polite smile as he indicated the open seat opposite him with a nod and picked up his cup of hazelnut mocha on the table.

Beyond the introduction she wasn't going to force any conversation on the poor guy. She could see his sketch pad on the table. For her there was plenty of people watching or playing on her phone to do.

He's not sure whether she recognized him; more people did often than not and more than once he'd had to fend off questions and requests for autographs while he's out and about in public. While he doesn't mind those if the requester were polite sometimes he did want to be left alone.

She wasn't sure if she should bring up recognizing him. It wasn't that she wanted a picture or an autograph, but it seemed weird not to recognize it. Maybe she would wait to see if there was a less awkward time to mention it.

He gave Carol another polite smile and turned his attention back to hi sketchbook.

After a few minutes her curiosity got the better of her and she snuck a quick glance at her table partner's sketchbook.

He'd started a new one of his seatmate when he spotted her looking at his sketchbook. "Sorry...did you mind me drawing you?"

Actually, she was kind of flattered. As far as she knew nobody had ever drawn a sketch of her. Well, there was that fan art of Captain Marvel circling Tumblr, but this was the first time in-person.

He smiled in response to the praise. "Thank you. I'm a bit out of practice with sketching people so..." He shrugged again.

"However, if you do, I'd like a cut. Ten thousand out of the million will be sufficient."

He can't help but smile at her joke though. "It's a deal, if I ever make it as a world-famous artist. You'll probably waiting for a long time for that ten thousand though."
no subject
"Eh, take your time. I have plenty to keep me busy. The extra ten thousand would be nice, but I won't expect it."
no subject
"So what do you do that keeps you busy?"
no subject
"Have you...have you heard of Captain Marvel?" She looks over at him, her fingers tapping on her coffee cup. "Because if so, well, that's what I do."
tbh I know very little about Captain Marvel
"I've certainly heard your name a few times but not much in detail."
