Come in and sit awhile

the Coffee shop meme
Your character finds themselves in a coffee shop:
maybe your character works as a barista
maybe they're just unwinding after a long day at work
getting their caffeine fix in the morning
maybe they're on a date
whatever the reason; everyone's welcome.

Clara Oswald | Doctor Who | OTA

She blushes in embarrassment, and places a hand over her chest in relief. "I should be more careful." She reaches a hand out for her wallet, and in jest, she goes to offer the kid a reward. "Thank you, and if you'd like anything on the menu it's my treat. Really, thank you very much."

"And you're sure that's all?" She asks, when she stops at the counter with her money in hand. As for the old smile on a young face, Clara doesn't miss a beat. The strange and unusual are normal for her even during a normal day. "I'd think this amount of honesty deserves more than just one of those peppermint mocha drinks."

For once, he's just queuing. Just standing there, awkwardly trying to avoid physical contact with the man hovering much too near his left shoulder and simultaneously looming over the heads of people in front of him in his grey-stick-insect way and trying vainly to make himself look smaller.
Being normal, pretending to be human, fits him about as well as one of Clara's tiny coats.

She turns around to look at The Doctor as they continue to wait. With a neutral look on her face, Clara looks up at him. "I really hope this place is worth the wait. I heard they've got the best coffee and scones in all of London." But she knows this has to be hard for him. Sure, he's an alien, and sure, he lives a life in the fast lane. But for her sake, she enjoys the time she gets to breathe.
"This has to be driving you completely mad, waiting," She leans in closer to speak in a whisper. "Waiting like the rest of us."

He glances sideways at her, disturbed to find her smiling, and his crazy eyebrow draw together into a highly unimpressed scowl.
"You're enjoying this, aren't you? You're actually enjoying this." This. Not just his squirming but actually being here, doing this, standing around. "Sometimes I think there's something seriously wrong with you."

She leans herself against the window of the cafe, with a devilish smile on her face. "Oooh, you know me too well. I think this is going to do you a lot of good. Who knows, their might be a reason this line is so long. These places have book signings or some other celebrity appearances you know."
There's the sound of a saxophone that can be heard playing through the glass window. And at a quick glance, there's a jazz band inside playing. They must be good to draw in a crowd this large. Or perhaps the coffee truly is something from out of this world. "And I know you're hoping this is all some big alien ploy to draw the in the masses."

Not to mention that being in what is evidently quite a trendy coffee shop, with music and ambiance - whatever that is - is suddenly starting to sound too much like a date. A real, proper date and, frankly, it's a little terrifying.
He taps quickly at her elbow, intending to draw her away. "Let's just go somewhere else. It's not much of a night off if we have to stop another alien incursion, is it?"

At the tap of the shoulder, and a look of disappointment on her face she steps out of line. "I suppose you're right, and I still don't think these guys are aliens. And if they are, perhaps they're just there to play jazz and not take over the world." Traveling with The Doctor has instilled a bit of faith in her about the rest of the galaxy.
"Anyway let's find somewhere a lot less popular, and we can have a nice sit down."
