college au/university meme
you know what to do:
comment with your character and preferences.
comment around! go ahead, try it tag someone new!

a) dorm life - sharing a living space with lots of other people your own age can be an adventure on it's own. roomies can be your best friends or a nightmare. but it's guaranteed you won't leave without a story or two.

b) toga! toga! toga! - it's a toga party ala animal house! or maybe another themed party. it's most likely frat-tastic. but hey, the key is to mingle. maybe even hook up or get into a fight. or both.

c) go team go! - whether it's tailgating or you're at the game, you're there to root for the home team. or just... be seen. or for the beer/food.

d) study study so mr. a will be your buddy - college can actually be about schooling! in the library, in the dorms, on the quad, with a friend, a lover, a tutor, it doesn't matter where or who you get your study on with, just that you rock that exam.

e) sock on the door - you know what that means. it's time to get busy beneath the sheets (or on top, why not?) in a bed built for one. hopefully your roommate will respect the rule.

f) shots! shots! shots! - let's face it, college can be one giant keg party if you let it. and hey, what's that? there's a kegger tonight? better go and get your drink/high/beer pong/ridiculous behavior on. time to make some of those mistakes you're supposed to 'learn' from!

g) morning after - remember those mistakes you were supposed to learn from? well you can't exactly remember them. waking up on the lawn or in your bed or someone else's doesn't help that much either. and who is this next to you? is that a new tattoo or just a sharpie dick on your face? it's up to you.

h) spring break! - to the beach, to the ski lodge, time to go on an adventure with friends or on your own. check out the slopes or senor frogs, just try to avoid the dreaded hangover.

i) wild card! do what you want! there's no paternal supervision anyways. (bonus points for someone who does a paintball episode)

Bring your son to work day.

It was harmless right? Right, Minato? Nothing could possibly go wrong. Except that your son could go AWOL ten minutes after arrival at his Father's classroom, stick on a pair of old aviation goggles and decide to 'be an aeroplane' throughout the school. At least he would be delivered back to class a little over a half an hour later with a bunch of Namikaze-sensei's female fan club members, pockets filled with all kinds of sweets and chocolate and a cowboy hat perched precariously on his head and threatening to drop over his eyes.

"College is awesome!"

It had seemed like a good idea at the time.

How many disasters probably started that way?

Minato had plenty of time to speculate as he kept an eye on the clock and wondered how well his aids were managing to hunt down his fleeing son. Not that he expected any real harm, to his son at least, he couldn't say the same for any college property, but - well, the science lab was halfway across campus and surely too far for Naruto to get without being caught but there were corrosive chemicals over there and -

luckily his son was returned to him before Minato could sink into complete panic. Where on earth had the hat come from...?

And yet it was impossible to resist that smile, so full of nothing but pure happiness when his son flashed it and Minato thanked the girls that had brought him back, trying to ignore both the giggles and the heat on his own cheeks as he leaned down to tip the hat up enough to see his son's face.

"Where have you been, Naruto?"
kuramaless: (glitterpuffffs)

I'm glad! =D

[personal profile] kuramaless 2014-10-26 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Naruto had pretty thoroughly enjoyed his time wandering the corridors of the college his Father called 'work'. He was pretty well behaved, didn't go out of any doors and didn't talk to any strangers if they didn't know his first and last name.

He'd already had third breakfast thanks to a nice lady at the canteen downstairs, ridden up and down the elevator a few times, and had a lovely time with his Father's students.

Naruto was quick to check his Father's face when he wandered in, grinning even wider at the neutral expression - the one without the tiny curves on his Father's face that said he was mad. Instantly he shoved his lollipop in his mouth, reaching both arms up in the air toward his Father.

"I was bein' a aeroplane!"

I am too XD

[personal profile] backina 2014-10-27 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Minato couldn't imagine a father in the world that wouldn't respond to their child's upraised arms and he was certainly no exception. Even as his mind registered the danger of Naruto having sugar this early in the day, he was already leaning down to swoop his son up in his arms and then higher into the air for a brief moment before settling him against his chest.

One day, Naruto would be too big for that kind of thing. But it wasn't today and Minato was glad.

Balancing his son with one arm, he lifted the other to tap the cowboy hat with a fingertip.

"And what places did you land while you were an airplane?"
kuramaless: (I got an idea!)

[personal profile] kuramaless 2014-10-30 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
A quiet squeak escaped him as the world shifted farther away from him than he was used to, but the moment he was held against his Father's chest both legs clutched, and he shifted his shoulder to be able to grab some more candy out of his pocket, trying hard to push it into his Father's mouth.

The tip of his hat made him giggle, and with a bright smile he started babbling. In the middle of it he might have confessed his quick meal in the canteen, the lady with the bun hair and a net, how he found a quarter, picked it up, lost it in some place that had a bunch of letters on the door. Rolled around on the ground for a while and pretended to be a spy, then saw some old people and hid from then.

The stories continued on - until he lost the ability to suck in a breath and keep talking at such a quick pace.
backina: artist unknown (where the heart is)

[personal profile] backina 2014-10-30 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
He never startled his son on purpose - but he'd be lying if he denied that feeling that little body clutch on to his for safety and reassurance didn't feel good right down to the soul of him. From practice he managed to field his son's attempts at being generous, catching the candy with his free hand to stash in his own pockets. He might need the sugar rush himself later on if the first half hour of his day so far was any indication. Not that he actually minded. He wasn't sure what he'd do if the day ever came that Naruto sat quietly somewhere for more than five minutes.

That bright smile was all worth it though and he couldn't stop his own as he listened to his son's stories, deciphering them through long practice.

He'd have to remember to thank Molly for feeding him. At the rate Naruto burned energy, Minato never worried about the boy eating too much.

He also wondered which of the professors was going to come to him to mention a little blond rolling ball sneaking around behind them later today.

At the pause caused by the inhale, he smiled and then lightly touched his son's nose with a fingertip, to get his complete attention and asked mildly:

"And where did the hat come from?" Because, eventually, they really were going to have to give it back.
kuramaless: (what's that?)

[personal profile] kuramaless 2014-10-31 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Naruto didn't mind being startled. In fact, some sadistic part of him got a thrill out of not knowing where his Father was only to be jumped out at from around door frames, or trees or buildings. He tried to return the favour, but he only ever seemed to make him laugh rather than shriek. Which probably wouldn't be a bad thing on reflection. Embarrassing.

His eyes followed the candy and he stored that information for later before wriggling his legs at either side of his Dad, trying to get free to get down onto his feet, already keen to get up to some other kind of mischief. Perhaps.

The professor that he'd been trying to hide from looked kinda weird. A tall guy with big poofy hair that sorta looked like Sasuke's dad. Naruto couldn't remember and just shook his head instead of responding, whether his Father knew what he was responding to exactly didn't matter.

"Hat?" He asked, reaching up to pat it. "Oh! The girl, the girl! Said I could keep it y'know?" He chirped, hopping from foot to foot before catching sight of one of many model aeroplanes dotted about the room. Then he was pulling a chair out from under one of the desks. "What's that one!?"

[personal profile] backina 2014-11-03 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Bell X2. Starbuster." Minato had let his son down at the indicative wiggle and now he moved over to lift the plane down for his son, waiting until Naruto was still to hand it to him.

"This model's special so don't play with it. The nose is very fragile." He squatted down on his heels next to his son one arm around him but let him hold the model. "She was the first plane to reach past Mach 3."

The pilot of it had died shortly afterward. That awareness even decades later of the risks of the job was the main reason Minato had quit as a test pilot for the military and taken a teaching job once Kushina became pregnant. The car accident and the permanent limp that had happened afterward had only sealed his resolve to put that past behind him. It wasn't something he talked about often now.

Standing up, he lifted down a different plane.

"If you want something to play with you can use my Flanker. It's a fighter jet so it's very good at dealing with bad guys and going fast."

He still had no idea who 'the girl' was and could only hope whichever student it was eventually came by to inquire about the hat. Otherwise, Naruto really was going to get to keep it, whether it had been intentional or not. Already students were starting to file in for their next class and Minato lifted down a WWII Hurricane for Naruto as well, knowing two fighter planes were better than one for dogfights.

[No problem!]

Hinata held Kushina and Hiro's hands as they walked along campus. She smiled at the way they pointed out different things to her that caught their attention. She was going to wait at home, until Naruto finished his project on campus, but he wanted Hinata to take their children on campus so they could get some fresh air and burn off some energy. Both Hiro and Kushina inherited Naruto's endless amount of energy and walking on campus would do the trick.

When Minato learned that they were going to be on campus, he insisted that they sit in his class. Hinata didn't want to disturb him, but it was hard to say no when Minato got Naruto to help him. So, after lunch Hinata packed a bag of things for Kushina and Hiro to do and set off for the campus. It wasn't long before they were in front of Minato's door. Hinata knelt down in front of Hiro and Kushina as they looked up at her.

"Your grandpa is teaching a class right now, so we're going to be very quiet when we walk in okay?"

"Okay!" Hiro and Kushina exclaimed.

Hinata placed a finger against her lips. "Shh, inside voice remember?"

"Okay!" Hiro and Kushina whispered as they copied her.

Hinata smiled as she stood up and adjusted her bag. "Alright, let's go see grandpa." She opened the door to the classroom and walked to the nearest three seats that wasn't too far away from the door. Just in case one of the kids had to use the bathroom. She pulled out a coloring book for Kushina and pieces of blank paper for Hiro, along with some crayons. She handed the kids the items before she turned to wave at Minato. Hiro and Kushina excitedly waved at the their grandpa before they started on their work.

Hinata didn't know much about the class Minato taught. Her major was in medicine, but she didn't mind sitting in a lecture. It would be nice to watch her father-in-law teach.
backina: (team minato)

[personal profile] backina 2014-10-27 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Minato wouldn't say that he'd been watching for them each time the door opened but - he had. As much as he tried to give his son and daughter in law space to raise their family and grow together, he would be the first to admit he loved the chances he got to spend with them. And their kids. Maybe, especially their kids but he'd never say so outloud. There was just - something amazing about being a grandfather. So when the door pushed open and he saw first Hinata's dark hair and then the children's small heads bobbing in immediately afterward, he didn't even try to hide his grin or the way his face lit up and quite a few student head's turned to see it's source in response. Most of the regulars recognized what was going on immediately and exchanged small waves for the kids or smiles before going back to their notes. Minato exchanged his own waves with his small family and picked up his paused sentence without missing a beat as he watched them settle in. He knew that his lectures would be boring for the children but having them near felt so good and Hinata, he saw, had been prepared, as always with things for them to do.

One day, maybe, they'd be the same age as the students in the rows around him and sit in on his class in earnest. Just - not too soon.

"It's about speed," he continued, moving back to the board to illustrate, fingers catching up the marker to make long, easy sweeps across the dry erase board. "Finding the fastest, strongest way to improve a design without sacrificing its efficiency. Speed's no good if you fall apart during the process. Don't cut corners. Learn to bend them. You remember our study of vortices last week?"

Some professors taught by route. In fact, Minato knew a few that simply played tapes of themselves talking. He liked to keep things fresh though, believing that if he paid attention to what he was doing, the students would have an easier time doing the same. He didn't cut anyone any slack in his class - but he did recognize that each class had its own unique makeup and he tailored each lesson to match as closely as possible what he thought they needed. This was a smaller class, a sharp one that egged each other on, and he enjoyed challenging them with new ideas, often ones that were still in the theory stage and watching them work through the meat of the problems together. So the last twenty minutes of class, he let them at the theory he'd postulated for them, feeling a bit like someone letting hunting dogs loose on a scent and while they grouped together to tear through books and computer links, he wandered over to where his daughter in law and grandchildren were with a smile to crouch down next to their seats, elbows resting on his daughter in law's desk top. There was laughter in his eyes as he asked:

"I didn't put anyone to sleep, did I?"
shyhyuuga: (a third blushin hinata icon)

[personal profile] shyhyuuga 2014-10-28 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
While Minato continued his lecture, Hinata looked over at Kushina and Hiro out the corner of her eye. It felt like they were growing every day, learning something new, or showing their parents something they found interesting. To think that it wouldn't be too long, until they were sitting in college and trying to work on their own classes. Hinata gave a small smile as she looked back at Minato. Based on what Naruto and Kakashi-sensei told her Minato structured his classes in a way that fit his students and the lessons plans for that day. She didn't quite know what Minato focused on, but it was easy to follow along.

When his students worked with each other, she grinned when Minato walked up to them. Hiro and Kushina couldn't contain their excitement when Minato stopped by their seats. They jumped out with their items and went over to Minato.

"Grandpa! Look I'm coloring a butterfly!" Kushina said happily. Her blonde pigtails shook as she turned her lavender eyes to Minato.

"I'm making a monster grandpa!" Hiro said as he shook his paper.

Hinata giggled as she watched her children excitedly talk with Minato. She remembered his question and shook her head. "No, I thought it was interesting. I learned something new about speed that I didn't know before. I do hope we're not disturbing something important."
backina: (making an entrance)

[personal profile] backina 2014-10-30 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
He shifted so he could wrap his arm around Kushina as she bounced over to him and he suspected he'd never get over her eyes. They were Hinata's and yet - sometimes - they reminded him so strongly of his own Kushina's. He didn't mind the name at all. Then he looked down to make the proper impressed face at her picture once she was snuggled in against his side and it wasn't an act. He was convinced that both of his grandchildren were amazing artists far ahead of their age group.

"Beautiful colors," he praised and then turned his attention on Hiro, stretching out his other arm because it didn't matter if Hiro was a boy, he got hugs just as much. As a grandfather, Minato could indulge.

"I'm impressed? Is that drool on his fangs?"

He couldn't imagine how lonely his life would have been if he hadn't had Naruto in it when his wife had died. And now... now he felt as if he was being spoiled, given love back in spades, far above anything he had expected. Over the children's heads he looked up to smile at his daughter in law. She was a part of that too.

"You're not disturbing anything. There's always room for you." He raised his head to look at his busy classroom with a proud smile. He was proud of his students too and didn't mind the chance to show them off. Looking back at Hinata, he grinned.

"Naruto used to tease me about my fascination with making things go faster. Now I watch him sprinting between classes and bet he wishes I'd get around to inventing that jet pack already."

Minato and Kushina couldn't be more different. Where Minato was studying the complicated (to Kushina) properties of aerodynamics, the red head was somehow getting by on focusing on the culinary arts. With a little self-defense classes on the side, just for the heck of it.

Kushina was never good at studying in the first place but when you put Minato next to her she has even more trouble. In fact, her books are off to the side being paperweights while she's sitting next to Minato and watching him read his thick book. Kushina is busy staring at the picture of a plane and the visual representation it gives to the reader.

As if that helps her.

"How can you sit here and read this stuff?" she finally asks with a bit of envy in her voice. "I can't understand any of it."
backina: (pic#8178758)

sorry, away for the weekend. also hi!

[personal profile] backina 2014-11-03 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Soles of his sock clad feet propped against the edges of the table so he could sit scrunched back on the couch, long legs bent to support the weight of his book, Minato took a minute to look up and blink when Kushina started talking, head taking a moment to pull down out of the clouds - literally, the chapter was about atmospheric conditions - to concentrated on the red head next to him.

Not that it ever took him long to concentrate on the red head next to him and his face went from the blank lines of study to a relaxed, softer smile in the matter of a heartbeat. He knew studying wasn't really her thing. She was much better with intuitive, hands-on field work. Or - kitchen work. He still had a few of those cinnamon cookies she'd been experimenting with squirreled away in his dorm room, hoarded for multiple exam days. Still smiling, he reached over and hook strands of red behind her ear.

"That's because air speed is my thing. If you understood it perfectly too than I'd be out of a future job." He shifted a knee to lightly bump up against hers. "What are you supposed to be studying right now anyway?"

np! i was late tagging in haha :>

[personal profile] fervidity 2014-11-03 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Kushina's furrowed brow smooths out at the tender gesture and a hand comes up, the tips of her fingers brushing his palm and warmth spreading from the point of contact and into her smile.

"It's too boring for me, I think. Not my thing." She grins a little widely. "I'd rather help you get your dream job," Kushina nudges him right back. Instead of pulling back she keeps her leg resting against his. One of her books is pulled over and plopped into her lap so it's closer and they're huddled together study buddies. "This," she sighs and frowns at the untouched math homework. Even if she had a book to study for her Home Economics class, Kushina usually didn't bother with it either and got by on pure cleverness and talent and the ability to be extremely creative.

"Can we take a break?" And she closes the book soundly before he can answer or see the completely blank page, leaning back into her seat. "I know you can go on forever but my brain feels like it's sitting in boiling water." She rubs her temple.
backina: (pic#8178758)

[personal profile] backina 2014-11-04 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Minato aim is test pilot, which doesn't seem boring at all to him - but he's also aiming for design when it comes to those same planes as well, knowing that his window of opportunity to be a test pilot woill be limited and wanting to understand what he's flying anyway and that... he can understand Kushina finding that part boring. Air flow and vectors - well, he loves the logical way they fit together and the puzzle of working it out but he can easily see why it isn't for everyone. Especially someone as active as Kushina. His smile spreads at her determination to help him get his job though. He knows she will. He counts on that support.

He's reaching out for her math book when she shuts it. He likes math. Again, it's logic and a puzzle and he enjoys the challenge. But she snaps it shut before he can see where she is on the subject and the way she looks -

He both smiles and commiserates, reaching over to gently rub the center of her forehead with his fingertips, working his way down to between her eyebrows. They both still have a lot of work to do but -

"Yeah. A break sounds good. Stretching out legs will help get the blood flowing somewhere other than our butts." The grin is laughing. "You hungry?"

[personal profile] fervidity 2014-11-07 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
It might be more interesting if she could sit in the seat with him and experience it with him. Otherwise she's nervous she'd break the plane even if she knew how it worked. Even as one of the top students in her cooking class, Kushina makes sure she doesn't set anything on fire. Kushina can be the one sitting in his lap in the plane (even if he lists off every reason that's dangerous and risky) or she'll be the one on the ground when Minato is in the air, looking up with pride and/or cheering wildly that he looks pretty cool as a pilot.

Her eyes close and she hums, smiling and leaning into his touch. She almost looks like a cat with that content smile on her face. Any touch from Minato makes her happy so after he does a little bit of the impromptu massage, one that actually helps, she reaches up for his hand and holds it in both of hers. Her fingers rub the inside of his wrist in return, for all his note-taking and page flipping.

Kushina cackles a little since he says 'butts' but nods. "Starving, y'know?! We should go to the Home-Ec room and I'll make something. I'll show you the results of my studying!"

In cooking, at least.
backina: (best gift EVAR)

[personal profile] backina 2014-11-08 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
The tendons in his wrist were tight, something he hadn't noticed until her fingers rub in and return the favor and he exhales a low sound of appreciation. After the end of Dead Week he's always a little surprised everyone on campus isn't walking hunched over and in knots due to all the stress and study and cram of final projects.

He'd meant stopping by the nearby diner or the cafeteria for something but if she's offering to cook it's not as if he's going to turn it down. He's never yet found a place that serves food that tastes better than she can make and his stomach gives a little twist to remind him that eating sounds good and eating Kushina's food sounds better. There might even be a little haste in the way he pops to his feet and starts collecting their books.

"Sounds good! Because I'm all about helping you study."

[personal profile] fervidity 2014-11-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
The diner or cafeteria didn't match the quality of Kushina's food even if she's still just a student. She went there when she was craving a certain bowl of noodles, however. As soon as she offers it though, she likes seeing the way his face brightens at the mention of it. If he made that face every time and got that excited, she wouldn't mind cooking for him for the rest of her life.

"I know you are," she watches him hurriedly gather their books. She tucks her math one in her bag slowly, teasing him as she stretches her arms and shoots him a small glance. "Since you love studying." And she doesn't.

The only reason she does it is because of Minato.
backina: (smile for the camera)

[personal profile] backina 2014-11-09 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He will quite happily make that face for the rest of his life if she'll keep cooking for him that long. Frankly, he'll make that face for the rest of his life even if she doesn't cook for him and just stays. His smile goes softer as he watches her stretch however, a little blurry around the edges and it's not until she's done stretching that he snaps out of it with a head shake and a crooked grin. Her tease gets an easy shrug.

"I like learning." Studying is a side-effect. Minato wouldn't mind being a professional student for life - except there was far too much else he wanted to do. He doesn't love every subject though. He's only scraping by in French for instance because the teacher's more interested in French food than Minato's lack of ability to pronounce it. Easy he leans down and catches up her bag before offering his other arm, goofy smile on his face.

"But I love helping you study."
