Keep it low key.

draw everything for me, chris samnee.

low-key dating meme.

Not every relationship has to be ridiculously world-shattering and universe-encompassing. Sometimes, two people can simply enjoy each others' company and enjoy that little fluttering in their stomachs when they're together.

That's the case for you two. It's dating, having fun, pure and simple. Of course, the catch is, your relationship is actually so simple that it's below the radar. No one knows about it except for the people involved. Maybe you guys are just private like that; on the other hand, it may be a necessity to keep things a secret from others. Maybe you're both team mates, and others on the team would give you grief, or you're not suppose to be dating, or you're not the type to usually date and you're only testing the waters. Perhaps it's the combination of you two, possibly an odd couple, that would bring some controversy or some teasing. Or, you know, you could not want to deal with friends and relatives being busybodies. Your reasons are your own.

Are you content with stealing moments to be together as a couple? Do you want to make your relationship known and the fact that you can't drives you batty? Remember, there are lots of benefits to dating in secret. You can be yourselves completely, away from prying eyes, and get to know each other better as potential longterm romantic partners. After all, you're not at that stage quite yet.

[Lately, conversations had been playing themselves over in Rin's head. When he ran, his mind would wander in and out of focus. Sometimes he'd think of his regimen, sometimes he'd wonder what other teammates were up to. Sometimes he'd think of nothing, all drive and determination with each step.

What Sousuke had told him about his shoulder echoed through Rin's thoughts. He could set it aside for a time, but he always ended up stumbling back to the awful truth. Rin remembered Sousuke's voice as he told him, how he'd sounded so completely resigned. There wasn't even anger there any more, no emotion to build a solution upon.

It made Rin restless. Even after the relay, even after seeing such a genuine smile on his friend's face, after Sousuke had claimed that all was well - Rin felt unsure. Maybe it was because Sousuke was so insistant at hiding how he felt. There was relief in the other boy's attitude through the weeks following their race, but it wasn't right. It was the relief of someone who had been faced with adversary and quit, not the victory that came with overcoming the odds. Rin knew Sousuke was well aquainted with the exhilaration of winning. He refused let his friend lose the chance to feel it again.

Switching beds was the first step. Now that he knew, Rin would do anything and everything he could to help Sousuke recover, and it wasn't like the top bunk was without benefits. With distance growing between them yet again becoming a very real possibility, Rin found himself appreciating the lingering smell of his friend on the bed sheets. The scent had been relaxing at first, but the intoxication had quickly grown to fill him with regret. It robbed him of sleep.

Now, as Rin dressed after his morning shower, a second conversation joined the first in his head. This, unlike the other, was a happy memory. A soft spoken agreement that Rin was able to encourage from his friend. His boyfriend. They'd discussed it late one night when neither could convince the other he was asleep. Their words that night filled his mind and had the boy wearing a small smile throughout most of the day. When Sousuke's hopeless face, his empty eyes and desolate resignation threatened to drown Rin in a haze of restlessness and frustration the words "I'd like that" saved him.

Usually.

There were still moments when Rin would realize what the future would hold unless things changed. His mood would sour then, but those were also the moments when he would reach out to touch Sousuke. He'd brush his fingers on the other's hand or lean into him and try to relax. They were clandestine and brief, but the contact always seemed to help. When Rin finished dressing he moved wordlessly behind Sousuke to run his hands gently up the other's back and rest his forehead there.

They didn't have practice. They didn't have homework. It was a perfect day for extra training. But Rin's drive was dampened - the boy was caught up in his mind, in fragile excitement that threatened every moment to break apart and leave him struggling against the depths of Sousuke's sunken dream.]

[There was relief in telling Rin, telling the team about his injury, about his decision to quit. There was the relief that came with facing adversity and in finding the resolve to just give up, yes, Rin was right, but there was also the relief of not having to shoulder a secret like that anymore, there was the relief of not having to lie anymore.

And with it came not having to lie about something else, too.

Even if confessing in not so many words meant more uncertainty, meant the future wasn't as cleanly cut as childhood dreams would make it, meant that there was just one more thing for them to work on and work out as they moved forward, it was worth it for the tender, clandestine moments they shared, for the affections and light touches burned into skin that he hadn't realized had ached for it so badly.

Now was one such time. Rin wandered back from a shower when Sousuke was getting dressed, gave him pause as fingertips trailed warm and gentle up his back, as his forehead pressed into the space between his shoulder blades that seemed to be made for him with how well he fit.

He softened, lowered his arms, shirt still draped loosely over them, glanced over his shoulder at Rin.]
