The FAMILY Meme

How does it work? Simple! Choose a relationship (or roll for one, if it suits your fancy), and then RNG for a situation! That, or just go straight for whatever situation appeals to you. These are all fairly vague: just something to start you off!

Parent-Child

     1. Rock-a-Bye How do you get a fussy child to sleep? Read them a story, sing them a lullaby, or just let them stay up until they exhaust themselves? Whatever the choice, it is time for bed.

     2. For The First Time You've never met this person in your life, but it turns out they're one of the two reasons you exist. Maybe they walked out when you were young. Maybe they never knew you were born. Whatever the reason, it is now time to meet them.

     3. Past Midnight That curfew was set for a reason. Now it's two AM, and your kid is just now dragging in. Maybe they're drunk. Or got into a fight. Or just had way too much fun snogging their new love interest. It's time for them to face the music.

     4. New Home It's the first day of your new life together, as parent and child. Whether it's through adoption, a basket on the front steps, or a wish come true, both of you are going to have to learn to take your steps together.

     5. Holiday It could be Christmas, Easter, or just a birthday, but it is time to celebrate! Get together for some good old-fashioned family fun.

     6.Take To Work Day What your parents do for a living is the quickest thing that can turn a kid from boring to the coolest on the block. So whatever the job, from accountant to zookeeper, go to work!

     7. You're Not My Real Dad Being a step-parent (or step-child, for that matter) can be tough. Problem is, you're stuck with each other. So whether you're yelling or just having an awkward conversation, it is time to work things out.

     8. Unexpected Guardian So you're not the parenting type. Too bad. Situation calls for someone to step up to the plate and look out for this kid, and you're the only one near base. Have fun with that.

Siblings

     1. Protective Big Sibling Okay, look. No one gets to mess with your sibling but you. Your little brother or sister is in trouble; let them know you're going to be the one to take care of it.

     2. Ruining The Night So your sibling has a hot date. You know what that calls for? Making their lives a living hell.

     3. Newcomer Who is this new kid in your house? Your family has adopted, and now you have to call this stranger family. Welcome them into the house, or let them know how much they aren't wanted.

     4. Blood Brothers So maybe you aren't really related to this person. That doesn't matter. You're going to change that, right now. In this moment, you will become family. Nothing can break this bond.

     5. Middle of the Night It's the middle of the night. Your car is broken down, or you're drunk, or you need bailed out, or you just got beat up, or someone just broke up with you. Whatever just happened, it's time to call your sibling and hope they can bail you out.

     6. Sibling Rivalry Nobody understands what jerks siblings can be! Always in your stuff, messing up your relationships, getting in your way -- it's time for an all out brawl, whether that means yelling, pranking, or fists flying.

     7. Long-Lost Maybe you've heard of this person. Or maybe they are entirely new to you. However, you've gotten the information that you're more than strangers: you're family. Welcome to each other's lives.

     8. All Alone Once your family was whole. Or maybe it never truly was. Whatever the case, the world is a big, dangerous place, and you've only got one person left to rely on: your sibling.

Uncle/Aunt-Niece/Nephew

     1. Sent Away There's something bad going on at home, and you've been sent away to "safety." Problem is, how safe is this relative really? Are they the kooky, cool kind of Aunt, or are they a crazed Uncle after your fortune? Time to find out.

     2. Taking You In Something's happened to your niece/nephew's parents, and it's time to step up and do your family duty. They've got nowhere else to go, after all.

     3. The One We Don't Talk About So maybe the family is a little bit...ashamed of you. You're a bit mad, or you've done something they just don't like. Yet you want to be part of your niece/nephew's life, and whatever their parents say, you'll find a way.

     4. Grand Adventure Maybe you came out of nowhere, or maybe you've just been keeping secrets. But you aren't an ordinary aunt/uncle, and it's time to take your niece or nephew on a very wild ride.

     5. Like A Parent To Me Sure, you have parents, but this person is who your parents should be like -- or maybe who you feel should be your parent in the first place. Let them know how you feel about them.

     6. Don't Tell Mom Aunts and Uncles have special qualities. Like, sometimes, being a bit more lenient than Mom and Dad might be. So you have a, er, sensitive problem? It's time to run to them.

In A Relationship

     1. New Baby On The Way The panicking is already over, but there are still preparations to be made. Maybe you need to set up the nursery, or you've got the best idea for your soon-to-be child's name.

     2. Romeo & Juliet You love this person. Perhaps more than life itself. But it is time to break the bad news: your family will never approve.

     3. I Think I Might Be Pregnant Somehow, you are pregnant. And you think you know who the father is...time to break the news.

     4. While You Were Away You've been gone years, only to come back and find your beloved has a child...with your eyes.

( maka's parents decided they wanted to adopt an addition to the family. they spoke about it with maka and she didn't had any objections to it. whether she gets a new brother or sister, she just hopes they're not annoying and destructive. so while her parents were out to pick up her new sibling, maka decides to stay home to read until they get home. )

[ Despite all the red tape and paperwork they always talk about, to Roxas, it seems like it was all done in the blink of an eye. Or maybe it's just disbelief distorting reality on his part. He's been at the orphanage for so long... And so, he's really... really not sure what to think as the car pulls up.

Still, the folks are nice enough. And shortly after, they usher him along the sidewalk and into the house. He's hesitant to follow them into the room where Maka sits, but he manages if not with an uncertain step upon some coaxing while 'Dad' goes out to the car to run a trip to a store. 'Mom' (man, he feels weird trying to think of them in that sense) coaxes him into the room with a hand on the small of his back. ]

Maka? I'd like you to meet your brother. Roxas- [ She gestures to his apparent sister. ] This is Maka.

[ Roxas tries to focus on the girl in the room although he can't help but avert his eyes just slightly. ] Uh. Hi...

( she lowers her book and glances over at her new brother. hmm... he doesn't seem like the bothersome type. he seems shy and maybe have a distant personality? she could be wrong, though. only observing his body language and tone of voice. )

Hey.

( her parents tell maka to show him to his new room and the tour of their house while they go back to the car to gather more of his things. )

( maka marks her page and shuts her book, placing it on the table before pulling up to her feet. )

-- Well, follow me. I'll show you the kitchen.

[ Her greeting. It's, uh. Well, it's hard to read what she's thinking. But she's not mean about it, so... that's a start in the right direction. Or so he thinks. Although her- their parents already leaving them alone together? That kind of gets him feeling more self-conscious. But come on, Roxas. You can do this. It's just a tour around the house you're going to be staying in for however long until you leave or get kicked out, right? N-No big deal here.

Right?

His eyes might have been wandering while they were talking, so when Maka finally talks to him, he snaps to attention in surprise. And then: ] Uh- Okay. [ He takes a moment to simply scratch the back of his head before he'll be scooting along to follow if not with his feet dragging a tiny bit. ]

So, here's the kitchen!

( starts pointing at various directions. )

Dishes are here, forks and such are over here. -- We have a toaster, but is kinda funky. So, if you want toast, just ask me. I don't want you to burn yourself. We have a dishwasher, too. Mama doesn't like having a lot of sodas, so we always have juice stuff.

( points up at a cabinet. )

-- That's where we keep the cereal. Sometimes, we eat cereal for breakfast and sometimes Mama cooks. It sorta depends when she's off work or not.

[ He does his best to try and commit the details to memory as she points them out. His attention's a little split between WHOA-MY-GOD-THIS-PLACE-IS-HOME, Maka, and just. Yeah. So, he's just a little distracted. Could explain the kind of dumbfounded, nodding motions he's going through like a bobble head.

Eventually, he does surface enough from his thoughts to try and make conversation: ] So, when she cooks. Just... what does she like to cook?

( she shrugs her shoulders. )

For breakfast, usually scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausages. She watches a lot of cooking shows, so it's always something different. -- Sometimes, Papa cooks, too. But Mama prefers it.

That sounds... pretty nice. [ And the thought brings a subtle brightness to his eyes though his lips don't quite upturn yet. Nerves still perhaps. But... he's never had a home-cooked meal like that. At least not that he can remember. ]

( she flashes him a warm smile and approaches closer to him. there is a tiny hesitation before she grabs his hand. )

Y'know, I'm glad I have a brother now. It's been pretty lonely being the only child. I hope we'll get along. And if you ever need anything, you can ask me, okay?

[ The smile that was starting to form in his eyes vanishes as she crosses the distance and he can't help but maybe take a subconscious step back. All the same, he doesn't pull away when she takes his hand although he does stiffen at first.

But then she's offering those words and that causes his posture to relax. Surprise finds its way to his features first. He just reads like a book like that. And then- there. There's a smile. His voice comes out quiet at first but sincere. ] Thank you. I hope we get along, too.

( she smiles bigger, but doesn't let go of his hand. )

Okay, let's head to the other rooms.

( maka directs him down the hallway. )

Bathroom is here, this is the din where Papa usually stays to do his paperworks and such. -- Always knock, though. Sometimes, he can get so caught up and he hates being sneak up on.

[ Okay, next stop. ...Oookay, she's still holding his hand. A little awkward but he lets things run their course. It's not like he thinks she has cooties or something. Gawd, so juvenile. He follows along with almost two left feet though as she rattles off more information. ]

So, no sneaking up on him. Got it. [ Easy enough to remember. Well. Unless he gets distracted in thought as he usually tends to. That'll be interesting.

Are his eyes wandering a bit more than usual now though? Like he's searching for something in specific... Almost feels like it won't be there, that this is just a dream. ]

And the laundry room is here.

( she makes a left turn and guides him up the stairs. at the top, she points. )

Another bathroom and that's mama and papa's room.

( maka walks a little more to the left and there's an obvious girl-y room. inside her room, there are two beds, tv, dresser, etc. )

This is my room. -- I'm not sure if Mama or Papa told you yet, but they're still setting up your room, so you'll be in here with me for a few days.

[ Oh- Wow. This is definitely some girly material. Wait. Why are there two beds in here? Is there another sister he's not aware of? Is she just out somewhere? Is- ]

Huh? [ No, apparently, they didn't. And now he's not quite sure what to think. She's nice enough. And it's not like he hasn't stayed with new faces before. Just- they usually separated boys from girls there, so... He's a little... ] No- They didn't. [ He's frowning a bit now although it's more to himself. ]

Wait, they didn't?

( she lets out a sigh. )

Ugh, they can be such airheads sometimes. -- Well, it's only for a few days. So, you'll be outta here in no time.

Do you wanna see how your room looks so far, though?

[ 'Yeah, no kidding.' It's a thought that crosses his mind, but he holds it off. No need to turn their first meeting into a rough one, especially considering he'll be rooming with her the next couple days. That would just be, yeah.

The mention of his room at least erases the grimace from his face, curiosity getting the better of him. ] Yeah, uh. Sure. [ His room. Still such a weird thought. ]

( she lets go of his hand and guides him a few steps down the hallway. and tada, there is his room. not a lot of furniture in at the moment and the bed is half... completed. )

[ He's grateful when she finally lets go. Not that she's a space alien or something and he wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pool, but he kind of likes his personal space. At least, given, until they become better acquainted.

He can't help but just kind of stop and stare when he's finally lead to his room. As she noted, there's still some work to be done, but. But it's his. And no one else's. And it's... He can't help but let go a hint of a laugh. ] It's.... really weird.

Weird?

( she tilts her head at him. )

[ He's quiet at first although there's definitely something going on in his head. Whether or not he wants to share is debatable. But he finally manages to shake his head although he doesn't quite look at her yet. His eyes are still tracing the contours of the half-constructed bed frame, the chair in the corner... ]

Just... having my own room.

Was it... really hard at the orphanage?

( she knows she may be going over some boundaries, but... she couldn't really help herself to be curious. )

[ He seems to stiffen just a little in surprise. But then he shakes his head, that smile to his eyes returning as he finally looks Maka's way. ]

It wasn't bad. I made a lot of friends there. [ Friends that came and went like revolving doors throughout his whole life there, but. That didn't make them any less friends to him. Well... Maybe he never quite got as close to them as he would have liked. And sometimes he got jealous. But regardless. ]

Y'know, I bet the owner of the orphanage would let you write to them if we asked. I'm sure they would have their addresses.

[ That gets him blinking in surprise. He... hadn't really thought of that before. ] You really think they would let me? [ Have their addresses and all. ]
