Groot knows Rocket’s a softie under his tough façade. He knows Rocket cares about others more than he lets on. He knows it was Rocket who saved a clipping and potted it after they crashed. It’s Rocket who sets the pot by the window and moves it from place to place so Groot’s not stuck staring at the same thing day after day. He smiles when Rocket waters him, complaining the whole time. He could have left Groot behind, but he didn’t. ]

He's rigged up a sunlamp for when they're too far out for natural light, and a makeshift irrigation system, and Quill has - under some graphic and excessive threats regarding what will happen if he doesn't - agreed to stop the ship off somewhere they can acquire a larger pot and some richer soil. And if they end up needing anything else, he'll get it. Whatever it takes.
His movements are underscored by a litany of muttered grumbling as he patches up a few minor leaks in the irrigation system, and they continue as he moves on to making some minor adjustments to the sunlamp]
How's that? Better?

Groot leans a little closer the sun lamp, stretching out his tiny arms to absorb more warmth. He wiggles a little in the pot and blinks up at Rocket in appreciation. That’s much better.]
I am Groot.
sorry for the delay, work was being a thing
(The crash was his fault. Never would have happened if he hadn't kamikaze'd the Dark Aster, and just to rub salt in the wound it didn't even work)
But yeah, that's his damn business and everyone can just keep their mouths shut about it. Certainly no-one else on the Milano has been perceptive or foolhardy - pick one - enough to draw any attention to it]
Yeah? Good [He nods in satisfaction, and makes a one last adjustment before flipping the casing shut and leaning back] We're gonna need to get you a bigger pot soon.
