The Road Trip Meme

the ROAD TRIP meme

You know who likes a good road trip? Everyone likes a good road trip! So aren't you glad you get to go on one now? Of course you are.

How it works:
1.
Post with your character, with their name | canon and any preferences in the subject line
2. Someone else tags you. Congratulations, those characters are now on a road trip together! To where? Who cares! We only care about the journey here
3. Go to the RNG and get a random number between 1 and 15 to pick your scenario, or combine numbers or make up your own
4. ???
5. ROAD TRIP STYLED PROFIT!

Scenarios:
1: LOST
You should have made a left toin at Albuquerque, or maybe you've been holding the map upside down this whole time! Whatever it is, you're hopelessly LOST. Will you make it back on the path to your destination, or will you find a new adventure? Try not to open any hatches.

2: Tourist Trap Okay, you're all for seeing the sights, but World's Biggest Doorstopper? World's Smallest Chicken? World's Noisiest Whistle? Do we really have to stop here, too?

3: Car Trouble Maybe you got a flat tire. Maybe your engine's stalled. Or maybe you just overestimated how far you could get on a half tank of gas. Either way, you're broke down on the side of the road and the nearest station is miles away; better get behind it and push!

4: Bad Weather Driving in the rain? No problem. Driving in torrential downpours or a blinding blizzard? Big problem! Better find a way to get out of the storm fast!

5: When Ya Gotta Go... Didn't I tell you to go before we left? Well, even if you did, maybe you shouldn't have had that 44 ounce Super Big Gulp, because there's not another rest stop for miles. Maybe you can find an empty bottle in the back...

6: Road Delays Stuck in traffic? Stuck at road construction? Stuck in a funeral procession? Bridge out? Whatever it is, it's blocking your way. Do you wait patiently, or maybe find your own way around it.

7: Smokey and the Bandit Oh no, those blue lights behind you can't be good. Maybe you should just pull over and accept your speeding ticket like a decent citizen. Or, maybe you should floor it. High speed chase anyone?

8: Night Driving You decided to drive through the night, and now it's one AM and you're all out of coffee. Wake up a friend and make them help you stay awake; falling asleep at the wheel is dangerous!

9: Ghost Town Boy, this town sure is quiet. And... kind of creepy. Oh God, did something in those corn rows just move? I hear banjo music; DRIVE FASTER!

10: Roadkill Good going, you hit an animal. I sure hope you feel good about yourself. Now you've killed the poor- oh, it's still moving? What do we do now!?
      10a: The I Know What You Did Last Summer Edition That animal you hit was a little more human than you care for... oh          dear...

11: ROAD RAGE That jerk cut me off! How dare he!? I'll make him pay! Or maybe you cut off a less-than-friendly driver of your own, and now he's after you...

12: Carjacked Awww, that was a good lunch. ...Wait, I know this is where we parked... Dude, where's the car!?!?

13: Hitchhiking Who said you needed a car for a road trip? Stick that thumb out and catch a ride where you're going. Maybe you and a buddy are chillin' with the pigs in a trailer, or maybe that nice looking hitchhiker you picked up down the road is not as nice as you thought...

14: Fantasy Car Roads? Where you're going, you don't need roads. If you're in Doc's DeLorean, anyway. Or maybe the car is really Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Or a spy car. Or the Batmobile. Or a Transformer! Whatever it is, this car is NOT normal.

15: Are We There Yet? Roller's choice! Pick your favorite option, or two, or three, or just roll with whatever feels right!

12! AVALANCHE style (and possibly slightly au)

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-01-18 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
ow. It's nothing. Just tell me if anybody looks like they notice us, okay?

[that would be Tifa with her head and hands under the dashboard of the ShinRa style troop transport truck trying to follow Jessie's 'it's easy' instructions on how to hot wire a car from memory. Outside a diner. Full of those ShinRa troops that just got out of the truck for lunch.]
cetra: <user name=cetra> (020)

The perfect pair for carjacking!

[personal profile] cetra 2012-01-19 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Okay!

[Aerith really wants to watch what Tifa was doing - who knew when hotwiring a car would come in handy? She forces herself to casually glance over at the diner. She can make out the men inside, despite the dinginess of the windows. They all seemed settled down, and not suspicious in any way. Huh, maybe this would work out.]

So far so good. I probably look a little weird standing here, but nobody's paying attention.

[Usually girls in pink weren't found hanging out by a ShinRa truck. She is sure to get a strange look sometime soon.]
more_than_words: (Default)

you know it! :D

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-01-19 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
{Aerith's got a point.}

um - you could sit in the cab part? {she's still be visible - she kind of has to be to see what's going on after all - but at least that wouldn't be as first glance obvious as standing out in the open.

They're winging this entirely. Tifa's never hijacked a car in her life, much less a Shinra one but they need the transport and - well, it's just sensible to take one with a nice back they can stretch out in at night. Not to mention trucks like these are made to go where there aren't roads and that's where they're headed.}

I just - think this is the right wire?

{because Jessie's 'it's so simple' instructions weren't at all like what's under the dash here. The wires are all in the wrong places and they're the wrong colors.

Hopefully, she won't blow anything up by accident.}
cetra: <user name=cetra> (035)

So sorry for the lateness :(

[personal profile] cetra 2012-01-23 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerith does climb into the cab a bit, making sure to keep an eye on those inside. They seemed to be sufficiently distracted - flirting with the waitress and laughing loudly as she walked away.

She can't help but lean over a bit to look at Tifa's handiwork. Jessie's instructions had flown over Aerith's head at the time, and looking at the tangled mess of wires didn't make it any clearer. She grimaced in sympathy.
]

You know, she made it seem so simple. I guess she had a lot of practice?

[This does sound more like a question - she wonders how many cars Jessie has managed to hotwire in her lifetime.

Taking another quick look at the diner to make sure the owners of the truck were busy (they were), Aerith scans the area around them. People milled around, paying them no mind, but she still felt nervous. Looking over at Tifa, she gave an encouraging smile.
]

I'm sure it's the right one!

[Aerith has total faith that Tifa will not make them explode.]
more_than_words: (no matter how far you are)

ah! you and me both. Maybe our mutual lateness will cancel each other's out

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-01-27 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
{Tifa's fingers pause at Aerith's question and that's kind of answer right there. Jessie's their resident 'flashy things' expert and Tifa's certainly not going to question her on things when Tifa knows her knowledge of things like that is nil... yet, there's things like the timers on the bombs and the fake IDs and now the car intestines she's working with that sometimes make her wonder...

Her eyes flick up to meet the encouraging green of Aerith's though, two bare wires held apart. Her faith in herself doesn't match her friend's but she'll borrow that positivity.}

Right. Here we go.

{please don't blow up, please don't blow up, pleasedon'tblowup and she brings the two wires in contact. There's a spark - and then the surprising jolt of the engine starting. Beginner's luck or Cetra faith, either way Tifa's not going to question it once she picks her jaw up off the floorboards and she quickly twists the wires together with the striped insulation. She also can't stop the almost giddy grin as she jerks her feet into the truck and looks up at the other girl.}

You want to drive?

{because it doesn't even matter if the soldiers in the diner notice now. In this moment, Tifa can't help but feel they're golden.}
cetra: <user name=musemoji> (053)

Sounds good to me :)

[personal profile] cetra 2012-01-27 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[The sound of the engine starting is like music to her ears. And Tifa's offer makes her want to sing. Aerith doesn't think there will be many chances to drive the stolen vehicle away from the scene of the crime. She's pretty excited.]

You bet I do!

[With that she scoots over so she's behind the wheel. Reaching down to move the seat forward, she's able to reach the gas and brake pedals. Gripping the wheel, she gives Tifa a wide smile. She's very pleased right now.]

You might want to put on a seatbelt. I don't drive much.

[With that, she presses the gas, maybe a little too hard, and they lurch forward. She swerves out of the parking lot, and manages to keep them on the road as she drives them to their destination.

It's pretty clear she's not a good driver. Especially when she stomps on the brake too hard to avoid rear ending someone.
]

Ooops, I guess I have a lead foot, huh?
more_than_words: (and I hope)

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-01-31 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
{Tifa's just about to say something when Aerith swerves out of the parking lot and whatever had been on her mind goes out the window along with her stomach. Suddenly finding that seat belt becomes a priority.

Not that Tifa can complain. If Aerith's not driven a great deal she's still driven more than Tifa. Nibelheim only had one rusted out old truck and Midgar certainly hasn't been full of vehicles for her to learn on either. So however Aerith's driving at least she's driving and Tifa will just brace herself in the corner of the cab as best as she can once that seat belt is fastened and hang on.

It's actually kind of fun once she gets over the startle of that first jolt.

So the laugh, part nerves, part 'we did it!' slips out of her at Aerith's question and she can't help but grin over at her friend. They're in a stolen Shinra truck, escaping the city - take that silly boys that insisted on splitting up the party.

Which is of course before she looks out the side view mirror and sees the same troopers piling out of the distant diner to spill onto the street. Looks like someone noticed the missing truck.}

Lead foot sounds like a good thing to me!

[personal profile] cetra 2012-01-31 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerith's fun time has now turned into serious business driving.

A determined look crosses her face as she stomps on the gas. Even while driving, she remembers the road well enough to make a sharp right turn at the next stop light. Ignoring the 'rules of the road', as they were, since she didn't even pause. She could have sworn the truck went up on two wheels, but she's feeling pretty good about this.

That's when she sees lights flashing behind her, and her eyes go a little wide.
]

I guess they called someone. Should we keep going or find a place to hide?

[Also, she's still swerving all over the place. Many people staring. They are a little conspicuous at this point.]
more_than_words: (take my hand)

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-02-01 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
{Tifa's busy concentrating on hanging on and so it takes her a minute to manage to look in the side view again to spot those flashing lights herself. Luckily for everyone involved the inhabitants of the slums here seem pretty spry when it comes to getting out of the way of randomly moving vehicles. Tifa can concentrate a little more of watching behind them and leave the watching in front of them to Aerith.

Considering the trail of chaos they're leaving behind them though, hiding doesn't seem to be much of an option. As far as Tifa can tell their best bet is get out of town. It's an equal amount of trepidation and pure insane enthusiasm as she decides:}

Floor it!
cetra: <user name=musemoji> (046)

[personal profile] cetra 2012-02-02 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerith needs no more encouragement, and floors it.

She's a little shaky on curves, and at some points she could swear she's going up on two wheels, but she's managing not to crash into any buildings, stalls or people. She mentally marks that in a 'win' column.

They are quickly running into areas that aren't as familiar for her, however, and as she screeches around a corner she grips the wheel tightly, eyes unblinking as she stares ahead.

Suddenly, a person starts to cross the road in front of her! With a strangled sound, she slams on the brakes. The truck squeals to a halt, barely missing the man, and as he dances away he yells at her. Giving him a sheepish smile, she hits the gas again, resuming their getaway.

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-02-04 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
{and Tifa's glad for the seatbelt even though she's pretty sure it was never meant for strain like that. Those lights behind them aren't getting any further away either and they can't keep risking people by trying to outrun Shinra in a crowded area like this.

On the upside - she's pretty sure they're close to the wall and for some reason Shinra troops don't seem to follow once you were clear of the city. Knuckles white as she hangs on, she risks one more glance behind them and then starts to power up the materia embedded in her gloves. The wall means a gate and she's pretty sure they're not going to open it nicely for them at this point.}

Just get us to the gate, Aerith! We're clear once we find the gate.
cetra: <user name=musemoji> (048)

[personal profile] cetra 2012-02-04 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
['Find the gate' becomes a mantra in her mind. Along with 'Don't kill anyone', but the gate has now become her priority.

Thankfully, she knows what direction it's in, and she cuts a sharp left through an intersection as she takes a shortcut.

It isn't long before she can see the gate, and she leans forward in concentration.
]

I see it! We're almost there.
more_than_words: (they say you can't have it all)

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-02-07 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
{if Tifa's heart wasn't in her throat, she'd give a sigh of relief at Aerith's declaration. 'Almost there' has never sounded so sweet. Twisting to look ahead instead of at the flashing lights behind she spots the gate. The very solid looking, closed gate. And it's not as if they're going to have time to stop the truck and get out to beat people up and then open it manually. Even if the soldiers do have a habit of only coming at them in twos and threes there are still just far too many of them.

Okay. Time to do this the Barret way.

Channeling the materia in her gloves she leans out the window, praying the door holds and doesn't dump her onto the street and she hits the metal with the most powerful Ice spell she can hit it with. Concentrating, she hits it again with the same, hoping her hair brained idea works or they're going to be pancakes or watching the inside of a Shinra prison truck. So close she can see the wide eyes on the guards leaping out of the way and she nails the hopefully brittle metal with the heaviest Lightning spell she's got in her. The resulting clap of sound and blast of light have her squinting her eyes down almost completely in response, hoping for AVALANCHE luck and freedom.}
cetra: <user name=musemoji> (046)

[personal profile] cetra 2012-02-09 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerith also has to squint momentarily against the light, but she quickly forces her eyes to open wide. She has to see where she is going, and she sent up a silent prayer for the gate to be destroyed, or at least beat up enough for her to crash through and get out.

She is practically on top of it before she can see it properly, and thankfully there is a large hole where Tifa's spell hit it. It isn't exactly large enough for the truck, but she should be able to hit it hard enough to skim through.

And skim she does - putting the gas pedal practically to the floor, they zip through the hole. The screech of metal against the vehicle makes Aerith automatically wince in response, but she doesn't slow down.

It is strange to drive on the rough terrain, and way bumpier than inside the city. Still, she keeps going forward. The sense of urgency she feels is mixed with some anxiety now, because she is out of the city, something she doesn't remember ever doing.

But first, she has to worry about their pursuers. She risks a glance in the rear view window.
]

Do you think they're stopping?
more_than_words: (no matter how far you are)

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-02-10 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
{all Tifa can do is hunker down in her seat and pray they make it. She thinks Aerith may have nerves of steel, or she's riding the same adrenaline rush that Tifa is where it's half panic that motivates enough to do crazy things. Either way, her friend has them roaring through the narrow opening and the dim light of Midgar is replaced with the growing light of a full sun.

Tifa can't help give a cheer.

Aerith's question though has her twisting in her seat again, having to lean out the window because the side view mirror is history. The wind catches her hair and unfurls it behind her and in her face but she manages to drag enough of it out of the way to look.

Her face breaks into a wide grin.}

Nope. They're all still inside. We did it!
cetra: <user name=cetra> (040)

[personal profile] cetra 2012-02-10 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerith also grins, and bounces a little in her seat in excitement. She probably would have done some kind of silly dance, if she had the room, but for now she'll settling with just bopping along.

Now that they aren't be pursued, there was the ultimate question - where to from here?
]

Well I'm sure we can't get back for a while. Might have to camp out here or something over night.

[An idea she's secretly excited about - seriously, being able to see the stars at night? That would make the whole chase worth it to her. Even if that wasn't the original plan when Tifa started hot wiring this truck.]

I wonder how mad Barret's going to be?
more_than_words: (home is in a child's laughter)

[personal profile] more_than_words 2012-02-11 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
{Tifa's all right with leaving Midgar behind. They couldn't stay much longer anyway. And when she realizes Aerith's never seen the stars, Tifa would have been touched by the chance to share something so secretly precious to herself with her friend. For now though there's only the desert around Midgar and the distant mountains. There's no way she'd ever leave the others behind but there's a small part of her that just wants Aerith to keep on driving, just the two of them, forever.

A night outside camping should be okay.}

Probably pretty steamed. {she doesn't sound worried about it though, tucking back into the truck completely and readjusting her abused seat belt before giving her cohort another free grin.} Lots of gun arm waving and sputtering. He'll probably take it out on Cloud.

{which she should feel guilty about and she will when it happens but right now it's just that Barret's a closet softie and she's aware that he could never bring himself to yell at her or Aerith}

Besides, we've got transportation now. We'll get everyone to Kalm in no time. If those troopers left their gear in the back, I bet we'll even have plenty to eat and maybe some new equipment for ourselves too.

{the hotwiring was absolutely worth it. Tifa's positive.}
cetra: <user name=vigils> (003)

[personal profile] cetra 2012-02-12 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Poor Cloud!

[Aerith has been able to see, like Tifa, that Barret is just a big softie. So she can understand why he would take it out on their friend, and a twinge of guilt does happen. For a split second.

She's more in awe about being out of the city for the first time in many years. And their future plans only make her smile wide, glancing over at her friend.
]

Sounds like we had a pretty productive day, didn't we? I can't wait to tell everyone what happened!

[Stealing vehicles, car chases, a night out camping under the stars. It was a very good day in Aerith's book, and it seems like it was only the beginning.

It was going to be a fun ride for them all - she is sure of it.
]
