the death meme

the death meme
This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.
1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligence, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of.
2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!
3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.
4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.
5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.
6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country?
7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?
TIME LEFT
1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise.
2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)
3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.
4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them.
5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?
RELATIONSHIP
1 - Lovers. This is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mistress, whatever you call them they were the person you wanted to spend your life with. Too bad you don't have much of a life to spend with them anymore.
2 - Siblings. Your beloved little or older sibling is just standing there, watching you slowly waste away before their eyes. Can you say anything to comfort them? Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted literally; adopted siblings and friends so close they might as well be siblings work too.
3 - Parent and child. Nothing is worse than a parent having to bury their child... except, maybe, a young child now alone in the world after losing their parent. As with the sibling prompt, this can be expanded to include parental figures and people who are LIKE a father/mother to you as well as actual biological parents.
4 - Co-workers, teammates or classmates. You were fighting for the same side. Or you worked together in the same office for years. Or they sat behind you in biology all semester. However you met, how do your react when you find out someone who used to be a fixture in your life is going to die?
5 - Friends. You're the best of friends! You go everywhere together, know all each other's secrets, and are never seen apart. At least, you didn't use to be. Now one of you is dying and the other one is left alone in the world. Or maybe you're dying together. Wait, is that better or worse?
6 - Bitter enemies. You hate, hate, HATE this person. In fact, maybe you killed them. Or they killed you. Or maybe nobody killed anybody and they're just bitter that Mother Nature got to you before they did. Regardless, they want to confront you one last time before you bite it, if only to rub your nose in your imminent demise and their ability to outlive you.

HOW IT WORKS:
1. This is where I am changing it up. Feel free to choose how you are going to die, just be sure to list the closest matching categories in your subject bar, along with your character and their series.
If you are having trouble coming up with a prompt or situation, feel free to use the random number generator. Or if you rather just take a risk feel free.
2. Responding characters then roll for the relationship between the two of you. Optionally responding characters can also share your cause of death/time left to live or roll for their own, but that's not required. A living character caring for (or horribly mutilating) a dying one is fine, too.
However, considering this is in our RP feel free to have your characters keep their CR, just make sure to inform the person which ever way you're going with it before responding!
3. Tell the person what you need to tell them before you bite it.
4. Have fun!

Steve had opted to be just stand-by status. The only reason he should be brought in is if the world might end. He only stays because of Fury anyway. Natasha's a good reason too but Bucky is his priority right now and Fury knows it. He makes it a mission and that's the end of that. The Winter Soldier could be an asset if they get him back on his feet. Steve doesn't like the phrasing but he goes anyway. Brings him back.
Things get better after that. Steve doesn't care that he still forgets things about them, about the world, about anything. He's okay with helping him slowly regain it all and just being there to support him. These are easily becoming some of the happiest days of his life. They get complacent. Happiness does that to people.
It's also when things start to go horribly wrong.

Steve is patient with him. He forgets things sometimes, or he gets confused. Sometimes he has nightmares that have him waking up screaming at the dark, or huddling in a dark corner of the room, unaware of where he is. Eventually his outbursts lessen. He remembers simple, silly things: like how he likes his hot dogs at the fair. He remembers picking up Steve when he was so much smaller, and laughs at the yelp when he tries to replicate the scenario now; carrying him around the apartment triumphantly.
He hasn't been happy in the last seventy years. It's like they're making up for lost time.
Tonight, was movie night. It was something they'd gotten in the habit of doing, and Steve always did like going to see them when they scrounged up the money as kids. It's also when Bucky, he'd been going into the living room to set their beers down on the coffee table, freezes, head cocked to the side like he's hearing something. More like not.
The dog across the street had been barking his head off, not unusual for the dog when people would walk by, but it suddenly stopped. It wasn't right. He shifts his stance as the other man continues to work on snacks in the kitchen and catches the glint of a---
"Steve, get down!" he yells it, going for cover himself as three successive shots ring out, pounding through the walls of the apartment. He feels his chest burn, blossoming with warmth and sudden pain. He coughs, feet sliding against the wooden floor as he tried to push himself out of view of the window, coughing through the dust from the rounds fired through the wall.

Someone had gotten greedy, thinking to take them both out in one go if they could, but it hadn't been him they had been aiming for by the angle. Bucky. It had to be Hydra. No one else would come after the former Winter Soldier when he's been doing so well. SHIELD had been talking about recruiting him properly.
He twists as he hits the ground, turning in time to see the last shot bury itself in Bucky's chest and Steve shakes head once, staring in shock before he gets himself in motion The shield is scooped up from around the corner even as bullets follow him through their kitchen. Insistent, especially since they know Steve had seen their shadows. He scrambles over to Bucky, shield on his back to protect them and drags him the rest of the way out of sight.
"Bucky..." he whispers, eyes panicked as he sees the blood. Steve shoves their coffee table out of the way and hears his door crash in. Agent 13, only this time she radios for medical and goes after the shooter herself. She knows that Steve isn't going to leave Bucky here. He rips through the man's shirt to check the damage for himself.

He gasps, and then grits his teeth as Steve grabs hold of him in order to drag him the rest of the way to cover. He gives a cry of pain at the movement, but it's bitten back and he's trying to cover for how much pain he's actually in. He can't process how much danger they're still in, and the crashing in of Steve's door makes his eyes go wide with panic until he sees the familiar flash of their blonde neighbor who Steve had told him was a friend.
He's shaking. Shock is already setting in. His focus is in tatters. He's useless to Steve like this. It's all he can focus on until he tears open his shirt and Bucky howls in pain. He's no doctor, but he's seen enough guys with holes in them to know when there's nothing for it.
He reaches out, flesh hand for Steve's, and his voice trembles. "Leave it."
no subject
"No," he says firmly, dragging off his shirt and ignoring the wetness in his eyes. His hand briefly squeezes the one that reaches for him and he shakes his head. "You're strong. You've survived this long."
With his other hand, he presses his shirt to the bleeding wounds. He knows it will hurt and he's sorry, but like hell is he giving up on his best friend and lover. Not when he only just has him back again. Steve is desperate as blue eyes meet Bucky's, "You have something like the serum. Enhanced healing. It could... It could be alright."
no subject
He tenses and shudders as he presses his shirt and hands to the wounds, and he gives a cry of pain, eyes squeezing shut.
Bucky was never the sort to lie to Steve, and they both knew the world a lot better than most people had them figured for. He doesn't need to feel the pain, the way his breath rattles, or see his ruined chest to know that there isn't any coming back from this.
"S--Steve, please." As much as he hoped they would have more time, he knew the likelihood of him leaving this life clean was slim. Seems it came sooner than even he expected.
"It's okay."
no subject
Instead, he shifted so he could pull him up in his lap and wrap his arms around him. "No, no it isn't," he whispered. It wasn't fair for the universe to give the man back just to take him away again. There was no one he loved like Bucky. There was never going to be anyone else. "I'm going to kill every last one of them," he told him. "I should have done it the first time."
His inhaled breath was shaky and he was fighting to keep himself coherent, "I love you, Buck."
no subject
He bites down on his inner cheek when the other man shifts him, giving a muffled sound of pain, and breathing going thready once he's settled back against Steve's chest. It's a little strange, still. How many times had he done this for Steve? How many times had he held him close, tried to get him to focus on breathing, and prayed to a god he wasn't sure he believed in anymore that it wouldn't just stop? How many times had he threaded fingers through his hair?
His breath stutters as he pulls it in, and tries to find the words past the taste of blood in his mouth. All he can do is sag a bit in the other man's arms, feeling the energy start to drain from him, leaving nothing but a cold feeling in its wake. He weakly shakes his head at that.
"No." he coughs it out. "Let it go. It---it doesn't end. End well."
He knows the reports. He knows what Steve did after the train. After he couldn't find him. He knows he put a plane into the goddamn ocean for the same reason Bucky would have. Cause it would hurt too much to go back home without the other guy, and yes, he's selfish. He's selfish because he'd rather Steve stay and struggle and not get caught up in hate and self-loathing that's going to destroy that little guy that could never back away from a fight.
Cause this isn't a fight. It's a massacre, and it's going to do what the ice couldn't and freeze out his heart.
He tries to raises his head to look at him when he hears Steve say that though, but only succeeds in it lolling to the side, his forehead pressed to Steve's chin.
"Love you too, punk."
