THE DEATH OF THE BELOVED

the death of the beloved meme - a not so pleasant shipping meme
All the moments you've spent with the person you love - or at least feel complicatedly towards-, all the smiles and the touches or the arguments and the glares...they all fade to ash, now. You'll have to commit them to memory, though, because those events will never occur again. That person you care for most is dying, dying right in front of you - perhaps even dying in your arms. It could be sudden and violent; on the other hand, it could be something you both knew was coming after a long bout with an illness.
Their fate is sealed. What's left is how you respond. Will you fall apart? Promise revenge? No one would look down on you if you mourn the fact that you were never able to tell them how you really.
RULES
- Comment with your character and your preferences. Mention if you'd prefer playing the dying, the bereaved, or either.
- Comment to others
HOW
1. Killed because of revenge or because they were close to you.
2. Slain in battle.
3. An injury getting much worse.
4. Later stages of illness.
5. Accidental.
6. Death by their own hands.
7. Death by your hands.
8. Killed while they were trying to save you.
9. Repeat. This has happened to you before.
10. Wildcard / Other.
RESPONSE
1. You hold them in your arms.
2. You lose your composure, begging them not to go.
3. You swear revenge.
4. You go berserk. Everyone in your way should watch out.
5. They'd changed you, so you have to swear to honor their request of no more bloodshed.
6. You try to heal them.
7. They comfort you.
8. You have to confess how you feel before it's too late.
9. You promise you'll see them again.
10. You kiss them one last time.
11. You comfort them as they pass.
12. Blame yourself. Everyone around you dies.
13. Wildcard / Other.

HYDRA clearly was not ready or willing to let go of him, but then again neither was Stephanie, she had failed Bucky once already and left him to their hands, and by God she wasn’t going to let that happen again. Fighting alongside Bucky had felt like the old times, like coming home once again, even if that situation was anything but ideal of course, but it had felt familiar and easy, just like getting in front of him to shield and protect him had also been easy and she didn’t hesitated a second to do so and she will do it again if needed, but thing was that there was never going to be a chance to do it again.
She was quite aware that this was it for her; super serum or not she was reaching the end of her line and there were no regrets from her part, not really, Bucky was alive and that’s all that mattered to her. ]

though he couldn't fully remember everything, he remembered enough to remember how to move with her on the battlefield. it was like a dance with a much shorter, sickly thin girl he'd had once where she kept stepping on his toes; except perfected. only they lost time, literally and figuratively. seventy years too late and they are bound to make mistakes in the dance they once knew. a lucky shot from a stun grenade that also had EMP capabilities made his metal arm useless, and he found himself looking up through the smoke, eyes full of utter hate as the combatants closed in on him.
only when one of their fingers closed around the trigger, he guessed they just wanted him as a dead Asset now, too dangerous to risk bringing back to base, but the shot was stopped. he moved before he could process it completely. he lashed out, angry and hurt, a cry torn out of him before he realized it as he watched her hit the ground.
the few that had managed to surround him were down in a matter of seconds, despite losing use of his metal arm, and he tasted copper in his mouth from where their blood had spattered across his face. he couldn't lift her properly, but he grabbed her by the shoulder of her uniform (like after the loss of the helicarriers), and dragged her back toward an alley that would be secure for a few minutes at least.
his mind buzzed in confusion. this was familiar and not. watching over a sick girl who was too stubborn to know when to stay down. watching and wondering if she was going to stop breathing for good this time, and knowing he couldn't handle it if she did.]

Her eyes flicked over to her companion and there was a small twinge of guilt and even worry for being a burden to him at the moment, if she could, she would have moved herself or at least tried to help him out to help him save time he couldn’t afford wasting right now, he needed to leave her here and be on his way before HYDRA sent some back up/
Ignoring the pain and the fact she was probably hastening things here, she moved and with great effort, which cost even more blood, she managed to sit up and rest against the back of the alley he had dragged her too. ] Bucky…you…it’s not safe for you here.
sorry this is late!
she looked at him, and confusion crept back over him again. when she moved to sit up, he pulled back, looking towards the opening of the alley, and then back to her.]
Considering the strike force just taken out, I have ten minutes. Fifteen tops. [he goes back to searching her face. she used that name again, and past mixed with present and he saw a sickly girl again in a bed. he didn't understand.]
Why did you do that?
no worries
Minutes that you can’t afford…to waste, [ Not that she doubted his skills, he could probably deal with it but she will rather have him put as much distance as he can and not draw more attention to him. His question didn’t surprised her, of course it didn’t, he still didn’t remembered her or at least not properly. It was rather ironic that one of the two people she had loved the most didn’t remember her.
She looked at him and tried to smile a bit, not that she could manage it at the moment. ] How could I not? You might not remember me, but I still do and you’re still…someone I deeply care about and I didn’t…couldn’t allow them to kill you, I failed you once already and I didn’t wanted it…to happen again.

he reaches out for her other hand with his flesh one, cupping it in his.]
You were smaller. [he doesn't remember the train, he may not ever, and that's probably a mercy in honesty. for both of them in this moment at least.]
no subject
The smile is a bit more real this time and with whatever strength she has left, squeezed his hand a bit. ] Yes, I was…I could barely reach your shoulders back then.
[ And God, how she wished she had more time to help him remember or to just help him, this was the reason she had been trying to find him and now she wouldn’t even have the chance to do it. ]

he thinks her smile might banish those demons, but there's no more time for that is there? she's dying. he knows this. why does it hurt so much to think of it?]
You used to get up on your tip-toes and---[he turns his head at the phantom feeling of soft lips pressed to his cheek. something suddenly clicks through the confusion and he feels like his chest is stuck in a vice.]
Stevie?

And then there’s the part of her that wants to cry, in a mix of relief of him finally remembering her and despair at the fact that it had to be in these circumstances, this is not how she had envisioned, but at the very least she could try to find comfort over the fact that he knew who she was. ]
Hey Buck.

he pulls back though, as if he doesn't trust himself to be gentle or careful. he looks down, like he's just now realizing the implications of her wounds and all the blood.]
Oh god.
[he can't carry her. any hospital will be too far away. she's dying. his stevie is dying.]
I'm sorry. [he blurts it out suddenly, not fully understanding why he's even apologizing. maybe for everything.]
no subject
and now part of her is wondering if maybe it would have been better for him not to remember her in the end, it could have spared him the despair he feels at the moment. ]
hey now, I should be the one apologizing here and not you. [ she was after all the one that hadn’t been able to prevent his fall and aided in creating what he had been. ] you don’t need to apologize Bucky.

Hold on.

and he's still going to be here with holes in his memories in a world he doesn't know.]
You can't---[go.]

You’re going to be fine, Buck, I know you will.
