There’s nothing like watching a movie, is there? It’s a chance to relax and have fun for a few hours. Whether it’s a romantic date with dinner and a movie or an outdoor film festival, it doesn’t matter.

[He hasn't seen Capote before, but he figures now is as good a time as any. He's surprised to see Lydia Martin there by herself, though and he arches his eyebrows, glancing around and trying to figure out if her movie-going companion is just in the bathroom or something. He hesitates, not sitting down beside her, just standing there in awkward indecision. Okay, so her date is probably in the bathroom. But that doesn't mean he can't at least say hi, right?]

Hey, Lydia. [His voice is quiet even though the theater is mostly empty so far and the previews haven't even started.]

( Lydia is perfectly comfortable, and content, to see a film by herself. Particularly one with as much integrity as this. And with such a brilliant actor as Philip Seymour Hoffman... The potential for humiliation is well worth it. Besides, if she runs into any of the status-holding classmates she has, her claim that she doesn't need a companion to see a film will be more than enough to assuage any chiding remarks they may offer. One leg is crossed over the other, foot bouncing absently, and she is inspecting her nails, bored, tired of the same movie quizzes flashing across the screen over and over and over again. When she hears Stiles' voice, she looks up and smiles. )

Hi, Stiles. ( She's not really sure why he's here, or why he's here alone when usually he has Scott in tow, but she's not about to complain. As strange as he may be, or may have seemed at the beginning of the year... He really isn't, now. She considers him a good friend. And he seems to appreciate her for who she is inwardly, not just the vapid image she projects. )

Are you here with Scott?

No problem! <3 It took me forever, so no worries at all!

[He'll never really understand the status-holding friends she has, and he really doesn't want to. He couldn't care less about that kind of thing. He never has. Sure, it might be kind of nice on occasion to have the popular kids like you, but it seems like an awful lot of work to pretend to be something you definitely aren't. Lydia's a different story. She's always been a different story. And when she smiles and greets him, he relaxes a little and returns the smile.]

Scott? No. He's hanging out with Isaac. This isn't really Scott's kind of film.

[He shrugs, expression giving nothing away about how he feels about that situation. And he has a lot of feelings on that situation that he does his best to consistently suppress because none of them could lead to anything good.]

What about you? Are you waiting on someone? [Now he sounds a little uncertain.]

( She does work, very hard. It slips, sometimes. Though with the passage of time, she happens to care less and less... The world is a far less trivial place than one where status matters. She's still Queen Bee. She always will be. She just has to hide her intelligence less now. Because she earned her crown, and she keeps it simply by being her own fierce self. It's nice to be freed, even if it's only little bits at a time. )

You're probably right. Not enough action. ( Too high-brow. Not to say that Scott's dumb, exactly... He's not. He's just not as smart as she is. Or as smart as Stiles. Her eyebrows raise, and she gives him a tiny little genuine smile. Not flirty. Not cocky. Real. )

No, actually. I'm here alone.

( Then she shifts slightly and picks her purse up out of the seat next to her, setting it on her lap. )

[He kind of figures that Allison at least, would have been there with her. Not that she has to have someone to go to a movie with her. Or anywhere else. She's Lydia.]

[He smiles just a little at her comment. He knows that Scott isn't dumb. Scott's actually very smart, just in different ways than they are. This just isn't Scott's kind of film. Stiles is less picky when it comes to movies. If it sounds at all interesting -- action or otherwise -- he wants to see it.

But he is a little bit surprised when she moves her purse out of the empty seat beside her and sets it on her lap. Oh.]

( Allison is off doing things with her dad today. So Lydia's on her own. It doesn't bother her, really. She's happy to have his company, but she's a strong independent woman and she don't need no man. Besides, most of the go-to movie buddies she has aren't really up to this depth. Her friends group changing is a positive, in that regard. She can do actual fun intellectual things and not do them alone. She's not surprised that Stiles is surprised so much as she is at just how hesitant he seems. )

Of course I'm sure. Would I have moved my bag if I weren't?

No, I guess not.

[He smiles just a little at that before sitting down beside her in the emptied chair. He chews his thumbnail and looks at the movie screen for a moment before glancing at her again.]

Do you want popcorn or anything? I can go get something.

So? ( She gestures. ) Sit.

( Lydia watches him, because she has an inkling that this might be a little nerve-wracking for him. For some reason or another. She smiles brightly at the offer. )

Mm, no. I think I'm good. Unless you want something?

[He can feel her watching him and honestly he's not even sure why he's so on edge right now. He didn't take a bigger dose of Adderall than usual. Maybe it's just been too long since anything abnormal's happened and he's waiting for the other shoe to drop.]

No, I'm good, too. Plus if I eat something I'm going to need something to drink. Then I'll have to go to the bathroom and I'll end up missing part of the movie.
