Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.
- Post with Character Name | Series in the subject.
- Others respond.
- Roll 1-10 at RNG for a scene,
1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

Spoilerrssssss
He hasn't stopped thinking about the meeting in Erwin's room, going over the new information, and Hange's hypothesis - a guess that, so far, seems as though it could be the only explanation.
Titans had once been human. Each and every single one had been an individual, a cognizant person with hopes and desires and a life. Their faces had once been expressive, held a personality instead of a single-minded drive devoid of any intelligent thought or emotion. It'd been so much easier to think of them as just so much meat and an inexplicable taste for human flesh.
Titans had once been human, and he's single-handedly destroyed dozens of them.
And then there'd been the look on Erwin's face, a look of frightening revelation that it'd been the first time Levi remembers being genuinely horrified by him.
It's been hours since then, and he hasn't uttered a word. He's alone sitting at the long wooden table in the common room, the fire still flickering and casting the only dim light. There's a small cup of tea between his hands, warmth rapidly dissipating as he stares at nothing and thinks to himself how he's little more than a glorified butcher - even if it was either kill or be killed.]
[ooc: COOL also ha I probably could have asked you on plurk but I was worried I'd forget otherwise.]

—Ahh.
May I, then, Captain?
[ You know, she tried to be polite and respectful. And most of the time she was— but there were moments when she sometimes didn't give too much of a shit.
In fact, Hange wasn't sure precisely what prompted her to check in on Levi, so the reason for her presence was unknown... for now. ]

He lifts an eyebrow when she stops, and is almost halfway amused that she actually stops and asks if he minds her intrusion.]
Ch. You're already here, aren't you?
[yet he can't bring himself to be annoyed at her presence. He sips at the tea, watching her a moment longer before his eyes slide away, back to the fire.]

She plops down, keeping her ankles apart and hunches over, elbows resting on her knees.
Hange pops her lips together, trying to figure out what to say next. I mean, she had no other purpose in being here besides to confide with Levi— check up on him, make sure he was totally okay. Maybe she'll get something out of him if he's away from other people. ]
Ah—
[ ... ]
Ehh.
[ c'mon, speak words RIGHT. ]
—Progressive meeting, wasn't it?
[ DAMN IT. ]
no subject
...certainly not that.
He gives a long-suffering sigh.]
You put together facts in some crazy-ass way that nobody else could and come up with the most plausible answer yet again.
[is that a compliment? Hard to say. It's said rather derisively, and he's tired, and many other things.]
no subject
[ Because she's really not sure with you, Levi.
She stops hunching over and rakes her chipped, un-kept nails through the side of her hair and into the back of her scalp, falling awkwardly quiet again.
Glancing over at him, she finally drops her hands and leans in ever so slightly. ]
Nothing is proven yet. But I will provide evidence whether I am correct or not. Mark my words.
[ okay nothing too dangerous yet. ]
no subject
His eyes move back over to her, his back stiffening slightly. Hange is perceptive - incredibly so, but Levi's not sure how he feels about her being able to detect what's truly bothering him.]
What other kind of evidence would you even hope to get?
[in his mind, there's already plenty of it. However he's not going to discourage her from trying to prove it wrong.]
no subject
[ She clears her throat. ]
I have some ideas.
[ ... ]
Hey. There isn't any need to feel any signs of guilt, sir. I mean, if you are truly feeling that way.
[ oh shit. ]
Um. I don't think
In a human to human strife, acting out to kill is a defense. Everything we've done here is to protect what is pure and good in the remainder of humanity.
[ oh yep that's a hand on his shoulder. ]
What else were we to do?
When an animal feels threatened, it is going to attack.

But then she's stopped, and there's a hand on his shoulder. He looks at it, but makes no move to push her away; Hange is one of the few people who can get away with touching him so casually. Even Levi can tell she's trying to be comforting. It's a...strange thought, but not necessarily unappreciated. In a weird way he's glad that there's at least one or two people around who can pick up on his mood and are brave enough to even attempt easing his mind.]
...I know.
[Even still, he has doubts that aside from those who can freely transform between human and titan, the majority of the titans he's fought and destroyed were people who wished to be turned into monsters. If the town inside the wall is any indication, the opposite is the more likely truth.]
But it probably wasn't their choice to kill. Mine is.

Humanity was a fragile thing. Violence between two humans still occurred, but not so recklessly anymore. Life was treasured.
Her nose scrunches— not the most pleasant face, but it quickly subsides. Her expression is more vacant now.
The hand shifts, this time on top of his. Maybe it was a little sappy, but as if she had any sort of indication or filter for that. That was honestly the last thing on her mind. ]
—You chose to protect those who are innocent.
Imagine all the lives you've saved.
All the lives I have saved—
And everybody else contributing here.
When something attacks, you defend.. regardless.

Finally he shakes himself a little, expression returning to a careful neutral.]
I must be really fucked up if you have to comfort me.
[which is about as close as he'll ever get to saying that he appreciates that she is.]
no subject
[ There's a long silence, then she pats him on the top of his palm before withdrawing her hand. ]
Please don't worry, Levi.
It's okay for somebody even like you to feel this way.
It's not the kind of news I wanted to share with the class, but I didn't want to keep it secret either. We're in this together, so everything I learn I need to tell.
no subject
[he could only guess what she must have meant by that. If it were anyone else, he'd have a fairly good idea; cold, heartless, ruthless. Similar and yet not as terribly labeled as Erwin.
Levi gives her a sidelong look after she withdraws her hand.]
I'd rather know, anyway.
Thanks.
no subject
[ wow way to read his mind there. ]
It's nothing to be ashamed of, Captain.
[ ooomph. Yep. That's her slinging an arm around Levi and tugging him close. It's sort of an awkward movement, but Hange shows no signs of hesitance at this point. ]
I want to know, too.
and I will figure it out.
Promise.
For your sake, my sake, humanity's sake.
[ She's just going to keep quiet, now. Even though she wasn't the most comforting thing, she could appreciate hugs and contact. Of course she's not going to let an opportunity to get close to her comrade slide, especially when he shuts himself off from most everyone else. ]
no subject
Levi sighs, and he just gives in for a moment, his forehead thunking onto her bony shoulder, one hand resting on her arm. It's the most physical affection he's shown anyone in a while.]
