The Power Games Meme
the power games meme
This meme is about gaining, using and abusing power over others. Warning: contains possible triggers.
How to play
- Post your character with their name and canon in the subject line. You can also give your preferences if you do/don't want to thread anything R-rated or above.
- When replying, go to RNG and roll numbers 1-2 to get a scenario type, then 1-12 to select a scenario.
- Play out that scenario! Please respect others' wishes if they don't want to play out a particular scene.
i. manipulation
01. Mind games. You're messing with this person's head, using whatever you know about them to your advantage. Words are barbs, and everyone has a weakness.
02. Stay close to me. You're not letting this person out of your sight. And you don't care what extreme measures you have to go to in order to do it.
03. Blackmail. You know something and you're not afraid to use it against them. Now they have to do what you want.
04. Love makes you do things. It's because you love them that you're making them do this. If they truly loved you, wouldn't they do as you say?
05. For your own good. It doesn't matter what the other person wants. You know what's best, and you're going to force it on them whether they like it or not.
06. Break you down. You're going to make the other person think they're worthless. Crush their self-esteem, break them until they're entirely helpless.
07. Betrayal. You made a promise, and you broke it. Or perhaps you betrayed this person's trust. It's all part of gaining the upper hand.
08. Lies, lies, lies. Fool the other person with words and you'll have them wrapped around your finger in no time.
09. Sob story. A little bit of emotional manipulation never hurt anyone, right? You're going to use this person's feelings for you against them. Make them feel sorry!
10. In your debt. Look, you saved them. The other person wouldn't be here without you. They should show some gratitude.
11. I need you. You're depending on the other person to do as you say. They're the only one who can help.
12. Your choice. Combine any of the above scenarios or choose your own! It's up to you.
ii. mastery
01. Pretty little puppet. You can command this person at will. They're a plaything, to do with as you please.
02. You're mine. You own this person, and you're going to make sure they know it.
03. No escape. Maybe you've locked the other person up somewhere, maybe you've got them in chains. Either way, they're not going anywhere.
04. Put in your place. That's it. The other person made one too many caustic comments, got in your way one last time. Now you're going to show them who's boss.
05. Force of strength. Nothing like a good old fashioned brawl to really prove who's stronger.
06. Cornered. Finally, you've got them alone. This is the moment you've been waiting for – and perhaps the moment they've been dreading.
07. Turning the tables. They thought they'd won, but here's your chance! Maybe it's time to give them a taste of their own medicine, or maybe you have a new trick up your sleeve.
08. Punishment. The other person has done something wrong, or maybe just something you don't like. Now you're going to punish them.
09. Back and forth. I have a laser gun! Well, I have a lightsaber! Whatever it is, you're closely matched and trying to outdo each other.
10. Make them beg. You hold all the power and whatever it is they want or need, you're going to make them beg for it.
11. Call my bluff. You're making claims you can't back up. Can you bluff your way out of this, or will the other person catch on?
12. Your choice. Combine any of the above scenarios or choose your own! It's up to you.
Optionally, roll again to determine your relationship:
Relationships
01. Lovers. In a relationship, someone has to make the decisions...
02. Relatives. Maybe you're siblings, or close enough. Either way, you carry some responsibility... Or maybe you just like to push them around.
03. Friends. Not all friendships are made equal.
04. Enemies. It's your nemesis! Of course you have to win.
05. Teacher-Student. It's your duty to ensure that your student succeeds. Will you help or hinder them?
06. Doctor-Patient. Their well-being in your hands.
07. Parent-Child. You're a parent, or a parental figure.
08. Manager-Worker. In the workplace, you're the boss.
09. Master-Servant. You're master of the household, meaning the servant is at your beck and call.
10. Lord-Subject. You're of noble blood, or close enough. You expect your subjects to throw themselves at your feet.
From here.
Sterling is going to hate me for this. Hahaha.
Hello, Spencer.
[The down side was that things hadn't gone quite as planned, and he'd ended up alone with Spencer. He had a gun, but he'd seen enough of what the man did to people to know that was neither a passing defense, nor a threat. The only defense was that he knew where the relic the idiot had stolen was, and the Hitter didn't.
Sterling wasn't a man easily frightened, and his eyes were sharp as ever as he faced down the man, head canted slightly to the side.]
That's what characters are for.
Their past few meetings were harmless enough, just the two of them in the same place at the same time. Sterling didn't interfere with his job and Eliot saw no reason to interfere with the insurance guy such that he was happy to let the rat-like man go. However, this time the IYS agent did interfere, got here before him and warned off the man Moreau sent him to squeeze for information. It left Eliot hanging dry on the purpose of his trip here and that made him one very disgruntled, very upset hitter. ]
I'm gonna give you two choices... [ He growled, advancing towards the arrogant agent. His hands were free of weapons at the moment, but there was a telltale bulge where his shoulder holster rested. ]
One... You tell me where Steve went.... [ His pale blue eyes flashed dangerously. Cold, like hard ice, utterly and completely unmoved. ] Or two. You tell me where the Tablet's hidden. Pick one of'em an' I'll consider lettin' you walk outta here alive.

[He didn't step back when Spencer stepped in closer, and his gaze was even. Eliot was threatening, and Sterling was hyper-aware of that fact, but giving into fear made people sloppy, desperate. Those things weren't Sterling.]
And as for the Tablet- I really don't think that's quite how this works, Spencer.
[Sterling said it conversationally, a lift of an eyebrow, a tilt of his head in the Hitter's direction. He wasn't naive or optimistic enough to think that Eliot wouldn't kill him. And right now, he had only one real bargaining chip. Giving it up, without the proper insurance... could get messy.]
no subject
How do you think this works, huh, Sterling? That you'll use what you know and hope to bargain your way out?
[ Fast as wolf pounce, Eliot's arms uncrossed and he lifted Sterling up by the lapels of his jacket until the other man had to go on his tiptoes to maintain any form of balance. ]
We both know that ain't how it works.
Where. Is. The Tablet?
no subject
He gasped, sharp, but not surprise, quickly shifting his body up onto the tips of his expensive leather shoes to try and keep himself balanced. The height difference was very much not working in his favor, here.]
So, you think I'm just going to tell you where the Tablet is and trust that you'll let me get in my car and walk away? Please.
[Sterling somehow managed to sound unimpressed, when Eliot could very clearly toss him around with hardly any effort. He was looking up at the hitter, watching those blue eyes as his mind tried to plot the best way out of this. He really wasn't too fond of the directions his options were heading.]
no subject
With a ferocious snarl, Eliot had hauled Sterling completely off his feet and threw him towards the nearest stack of wooden crates, something that was both uncomfortable to land on but would break the impact enough to not knock the man out. He needed the man awake to answer his questions. ]
No, [ Eliot said as he stalked back over to the battered agent and leaned menacingly over him. ] I think you're gonna tell me where the Tablet is to save yourself from gettin' tortured.
[ Torture wasn't a game Eliot liked, but Moreau wanted that artifact, paid good money to get it stolen in the first place. Eliot intended to get it back for him. ]
