It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Mankanshoku Mako | Kill la Kill

[Mako has always loved the rain.

And not only because it sometimes struck a few extra people down with colds and added to her family's meager budget. No, what she loved best was the simple joy of stomping around and kicking through puddles. In the colder, lonelier days before Ryuko-chan and Senketsu-chan crashed into her life and lit it up like a pair of rowdy, exhibitionist suns, rainy days were a magical sort of Wonderland for Mako.

So really, it should surprise exactly no one that the first real drizzle since the family grew sees her dragging one of her precious new friends out to enjoy the simple pleasure of sloshing around in silvery pools and dashing through a curtain of cool, fat raindrops.]

Senketsu-chan, Senketsu-chan, hurry up~!

[And Senketsu always hated the rain.

It's wet, it's cold, and it's slightly acidic. It had the uncanny ability to soak human and clothing alike through to the bone, sapping the body's heat right from the core and there was nothing he could do about it even if he tried his hardest.

It sucks.

But Senketsu had learned early on that "no" was not part of Mako's vocabulary. Her tenacity could bulldoze right through the Gamagoori (if the guy ever let his guard down), and Senketsu is hardly an immovable object.

But that doesn't mean that he tries sometimes.]

I-Is this really necessary, Mako?

[But it's too late. He's getting tugged around like a plain lifeless sheet and the rain is already finding it's way through strands of red hair.]

Eh?

[To be frank, Mako might break through Gamagoori even with his guard up, given enough time alone with the man.

Mako does a neat pirouette, delighting in the small title wave that results, splashing up around her ankles. And probably his as well. Sorry, Senketsu, she hasn't quite cottoned on to your dissatisfaction with this damp little romp just yet.]

Of course it is, Senketsu-chan! Even as we speak, our bonds are tightening and shrinking, pulling us closer! The seed of our friendship is being fed, and will crack and sprout, taking our relationship to fresh, budding levels. It's more than necessary! It's—

[She reaches out, quick as a cat, and cups his larger, more dangerous hands within her own pale, delicate ones.]

—a reaffirmation of our places in each other's hearts and lives~!

[Point.

His immediate response is to merely stare, vacant-eyed, at her excessively metaphoric explanation of the situation. It takes a little longer for him to process the gatling stream of information without being attached to his source of sustenance. Ryuko, take the wheel. But eventually it does get through to him, and his large but surprisingly dextrous clawed fingers tighten around the hand closest to his palm.]

You're going to get soaked.

[He says it softly, worriedly, fully aware that his concern may as well fall on deaf ears. Yeah, he's going to get soaked too. Probably much faster than her. But he'd rather not think about it like that. Still...

He pulls her in, gently. He has only enough strength on his own to be some level of assertive with his touch. But he can still pull Mako in to place her head against his chest, claws of his other hand gently preening her hair, as he slouches forward to shield her from the rain.]

Let's go back inside. We can crack a window and listen to it from the [relative] warmth of the house.

I already am, so a few more ounces of water shouldn't hurt.

[This is true. Her blouse has been soaked by the journey so far; not completely sheer, but enough to show that for once she has donned her single, nice set of underwear. It took a truly fearsome day for her to hook into the expensive, lacy support.

She follows Senketsu's tugging smoothly, looping her arms around his thick neck and curling her feet up to swing like a bizarre kind of necklace. she cranes her head back to beam up at him, full-force at point-blank range.]

And going back home is the very best part! We can squeeze into the bathroom and scrub the chill from one another's skin and souls~!

[…Probably. in Mako's fantasies, at least. She hasn't had a friend to try it out with before, after all.]

[Senketsu respects that bra. It has singlehandedly taken on a feat that no cloth could do alone, and does it with style.]

A-ah--your mother would use me for kitchen rags if she found us doing that!

[All that single-star fodder, hot-headed two-stars, the four Devas and even Kiryuuin herself--but Mrs. Mankanshoku? Nope. No way. Not even going to touch that one, even with all the life fiber in the world and Ryuko.

...The thought is enough to get his mind off of the cold rain at least.]

Mama said it would be fine since you don't have anything to threaten my virtue with!

[There's not a single half-cocked plan so much as dreamt of under the Mankanshoku roof that its matriarch isn't immediately aware of. nine times out of ten, when Mataro decides to skip school its on their mother's intuition and orders that Mako hunts him down and wrestles him into submission.

So naturally, as soon as Senketsu had assumed his new form and Back-alley Dr. Mankanshoku made his assessments, the Mankanshoku ladies and Ryuko had sat down for a quick pow-wow on just how to treat him, given their general attitudes towards the other male elements of the household.]

She even made sure there's some extra detergent in the bath for you!

Gah!?

[Senketsu isn't sure what part of this horrifies him more - the fact that Mako had a conversation about that with her mother or the fact that he can hear Ryuko's cackling clear as day inside of his head.]

How...thoughtful...of her...

[Throw him in the incinerator already.]

Besides, you were always hanging in our room. You've probably seen me naked hundreds of times already!

[She buts her head against the bottom of his jaw—though in admonishment or affection it's rather hard to discern. The former is far more likely, given that it's Mako, but still.]

So technically if you ever sprout a virtue-stealing package you're duty bound to take me or Ryuko-chan or maybe both of us as your wives! It's important to be an honorable and forthright person you know, but since you don't and you didn't when you saw, you only least owe us your everlasting friendship, okay?

...that's true. [Senketsu had never thought about it as odd, seeing Mako or Ryuko nude. He knew Ryuko's body as if it were his own, and he'd shared her sentiment toward Mako--a precious friend, where the exposure of flesh was no matter in the bond between two women.

He takes the bop to the chin in stride as he is apt to do, barely notices it amongst all the do not want in his head.]

I'd rather not burden either of you with having a Godrobe as your groom.

[Are they seriously having this conversation right now.

The rain provides an excellent distraction from his miserable thoughts as a shiver runs down the spine of his bulky body. Huh, that's funny, wasn't he desperate to get his mind off of the rain just a second ago?]

Hey. Hey.

[Mako's legs swing back up, knees hooking over his hips. From there she inches up him, like a determined little caterpillar eking her way up a big, dark tree trunk. When she finally gets up to eye-level, she presses her forehead against his and glares into his eye.]

Hey! Senketsu-chan isn't a burden, he's a friend! And friends are never burdens! Never ever ever!

[She puffs her cheeks out angrily. on the plus side for him, her clambering has given him a little more of her body heat.]

[The sudden shift of balance takes him a second to get used to, but after supporting her weight in his hands (even if he only really needs one of them) it's easier to keep himself from swinging off-balance with Mako's ever-squirming body.]

Even if I demanded high-end luxury softener?

[He jests, even though he understands what she means.]

Even then!

[She squashes his cheeks between her hands.]

But Senketsu-chan is already velvety soft, so we'll save it for special occasions, okay?

[It'll be like his version of a croquette with actual meat inside! That way, everybody can have a nice little pick-me-up every so often.]

But we should probably go back and get started on that washing, before you get all wrinkled.

[The compliment actually brings a mild flush to his face. He doesn't get praise very often, and it's usually from Ryuko. To hear it from Mako...it makes him feel warm inside, and not because she's just nestled up against his trunk.

But now she wants to go back inside all of the sudden? She had dragged him out here as if they were on a tight schedule, and now she wants to go back? To a bath already drawn...with extra detergent?

Wait a second.]

...Was this an excuse to take a shower without having to pump the water?

No, that's just a perk!

[ZERO SHAME. That's the Mankanshoku way, you know.]

This was supposed to be a bonding exercise, but Senketsu-chan isn't having fun, so it's been long enough! It's time for Phase Two of the Operation to begin, so homeward bound we go~!

[Not in the least bit surprised. But he's been left out of the human bathing ritual until now, so he's still learning about it.]

I...

[There's no point in fibbing and insisting that he is indeed having fun, because 1. he isn't, and 2. if Mako's picked up on it by herself, then there's no way he could possibly try to make it sound like he's enjoying himself.

He likes spending time with her. He likes being able to talk with her, even though it feels like she's leaving him in the dust sometimes. But the rain...he could really, really do without the rain.]

As you wish, Mako.

[And with that he turns and carries her back to the house.

Zero shame.]

[He's learning already. Talk about a 'smart outfit'!]

…I think next time, Dad will have finished repairing the umbrella! And, and maybe we could find you some galoshes! Big, shiny yellow ones so your toes don't get chilly.

Don't ask how someone without a digestive system can gag, but he finds it extremely easy to do so with that horrifying mental image.]

I'd be fine with just a raincoat.

But, but, but! You just got these toes, Senketsu-chan! You have to take good care of them. Otherwise, they'll shrivel and fall off and Papa will powder them up and market them as an herbal medicine!

[Mako is the master of nothing if not making things go from bad to worse.]

You'll have to discuss the matter with Ryuko.

[Throwing her under the bus on this one. Oh well. She'll forgive him. Eventually.

...what in the world would you market Godrobe toes for, anyway? Impotence? Because apparently he can't even figure that one out for himself.]

I will!

{She leans back, bending over as much as she can without unbalancing him and not even caring about the face-ful of water she earns.]

Ah! We're home!

[Crisis averted.

Senketsu kneels in order to let Mako back down on her feet. While Mako embraces the state of being soaked with water, it takes all of Senketsu's self-control not to find the closest dry, absorbent surface and press himself into it for the next ten hours.]

[Mako peels off her slick loafers and catches Senketsu's arm, striking a dramatic pose.]

Now! To the bathroom we go!

[Perhaps it would look weird for a short, petite girl to be dragging a six-foot-someodd man(?) around like he was an oversized teddy bear. Perhaps it's normal in the Mankanshoku household.

But at least the hot water will chase out the chill left from the rain, right? Even steam by itself would help. Mako always acts like she's short on time, but in this case there's hot water on the line!]
