the dæmon meme

dæmon: the inner-self of a human physically manifested in the form of an animal called a 'dæmon'. the animal is the most intimate expression of the human's inner soul, the form of the animal directly representing that person's true personality.

they are, in effect, the other half of your soul, sharing your thoughts and knowing everything about you. and despite whether or not you want them, they are with you for life, your closest companion.

how do your character's interactions with others CHANGE now that a part of their soul is wandering around with them?

suggested ideas:

1. standard slice of life. you are going about your life, either in your canon, or in the world of the golden compass. hell, even make a modern au. the conflict here is up to you.
2. dæmons are generally the opposite gender of their human partner. however, yours shares your gender. what are the implications of this? how do people treat you in the street?
3. intercision. you have been cut away from your dæmon. you are a freak to the rest of society. you are empty, severed from part of your soul.
4. intimacy. you never touch another's dæmon-- unless, of course, you are in a sexual relationship with them. what's that first touch like?
5. settling. for younger characters: your dæmon has finally chosen their final, adult form. how does this make you feel? you're an adult now, how do your peers view you?

of course, you're free to do whatever you want with this universe, the only requirement is that your character have a dæmon!

He rushes in the house and shakes off most of the snow. She's going to need to warm up a moment. Coat and scarf off, but Sarah is still very visible around his neck. ]

And due to her human being a magic user, she can travel several miles away from him. However, AkaRed only asks her to do so when it's truly needed, knowing how much she hates being away from her "pack". He even teases her sometimes for being quite the den mother. And while she is small for a wolf, it doesn't make her any less effective in battle. Indeed, she enjoys showing their foes just how much damage a "small runt" could really do. Her full name is Nagareboshi, but very few besides AkaRed are allowed to call her by her nickname, "Boshi".]

He's also scarily good at imitating noises, phone number beeps, voices... You name it. ]

[One wouldn't imagine that Hanna would have someone like Beck for her daemon. She's all show, all flair, and yet, here she is, with a Nubian Ibex for her daemon. Not that Hanna really cares, she and Beck have a very long history together. Sometimes, he does shy away from her flames, but together, they're not a pair you want to cross.

She does control fire, and he does have a very large pair of horns, after all.]

Both human and daemon changed, but no one could say exactly how. Both are adept at playing parts, being charming and courteous one moment, deadly and vicious the next.]

[ his daemon, a grey wolf, is nearly always tumbling along at his heels. the little thing is caught somewhere between puppy and adult, tripping over its own lanky limbs and too-big paws. one day, he hopes, it's sure to be something fearsome and awe-inspiring, but... for now, the other cadets are plenty happy to rag on him for having such a gangly, awkward creature padding faithfully along behind him.

(he always scratches it behind the ears once they're alone, tells her not to listen, not to mind them, because one day they're both going to be the best of the best, and then no one will mess with either one of them.) ]

(she may have grown past puppyhood, but she's not above a little friendly roughhousing with denzel, or too proud to submit to marlene brushing her coat and tying ribbons on her tail.) ]

[Given what was occurring when Xerxes settled, it's hardly a surprise that he'd taken a large and rather violent form. His and Alice's time in Rutledge affected them both for the worse, with her tiger daemon growing steadily more brutal and savage as the need for it grew.

These days, he hardly speaks aloud, preferring to communicate to Alice over the bond that links every person and their daemon together. His unnatural pelt and exotic form are enough to tell even the most casual of passersby that something is off with both of them.]

They're both overly sarcastic, but Ophelia isn't always as hostile about everything as Owen is; he tries to keep everyone at a distance, but, as a reflection of his soul, Ophelia isn't necessarily like that all the time. It's not something he's terribly fond of.]

[Most people don't expect someone like Oswin to have a dog daemon, but then again, she's always liked being unpredictable. Ossiandre is as energetic and playful as Oswin is, if a little more cautious when it comes to throwing herself into danger. Someone has to be the voice of reason, after all.

note: if the thread is post-asylum of the daleks, oswin and ossiandre are seperated, but not severed. like a witch's daemon, ossiandre can go extreme distances from oswin without the normal effects kicking in, an after-effect of what they both went through.]
