The Fairytale AU Meme

Step 1: Post a comment with the character name and fandom in the subject.
Step 2: Someone will respond with a number (RNG generated or just chosen based on whatever they prefer) between 1-11. They are now that character role in a story!
Step 3: You can either do the same to determine your character's role within that story! Feel free to twist the role around as necessary.
Step 4: Play and make merry!

Character Roles
1. Princess
One day your prince will come... Or maybe you're going after him! Or maybe you've been cursed/captured/whatever and are in need of rescue! Those towers won't climb themselves, and those kisses that awaken you from a century of slumber aren't exactly cheap.

2. Prince Charming/Heroic Knight
You're handsome (hopefully). You're charming (you think). You have a great outfit (this is debatable). Regardless, it's time to go find and rescue your one true love! ... Er, wherever she or he might be.

3. Villian
Man, those two up there sure are annoying, aren't they? Maybe it's time to do some kidnapping, curse some royalty, plague a kingdom, or whatever other nefarious deed you might be thinking of. In any case, the truly important thing is to make sure your cape and collar are appropriately intimidating and black.

4. Red Riding Hood
... Or whichever other cute little girl that roams the woods in her free time that you can think of. You're cute, you have a pretty outfit, and there's something growling in the bushes but whatever it is, it can't be too dangerous, can it?

5. Wolf
You're a wolf. Or a bear. Or some other animal. Or some random person with animal ears and a tail. Maybe you're evil, maybe you're just misunderstood, but you still can't stand those annoying people that keep wandering around your forest. Maybe they're even in your house, eating your food! The nerve! Or maybe they just look delicious, who knows.

6. Dragon
You're a fucking dragon. Maybe you've kidnapped a snack, maybe someone came to hunt you down, maybe some hobbit is stealing your treasure, maybe you're just chilling. You're a dragon.

7. Witch
Bring out the hat and broomstick, it's time to get the cauldron bubbling. Good, misunderstood, evil, who knows what you are. Except for a witch. You're definitely a witch. Try to avoid shoving small children into your oven and you should be fine.

8. Cheery Animal Sidekick
Cheep cheep! Boy that princess sure is pretty, huh? You should sing with her and do her chores for her and obey her slavishly- wait... Well, whatever you're doing, you're cute and small and mildly annoying.

9. Cursed Prince
Life was just perfect for you, until you got on the wrong side of that witch/wizard/cheery animal sidekick pushed just too far. Now you're cursed! Into a beast? Into a frog? Maybe you have really bad acne now? It could be anything (seriously, anything you can think of) but luckily, the cure is simple. Find your one true love and get that magical first kiss.

10. Fairy Godmother
When your princess is in need, she's only got one person to turn to. Her fairy godmother. It's your job to advise her, help get her out of any scrapes she happens to be in, or maybe you got her in the mess to begin with.

11. Random Extra
Wow, all those other guys sure are weird, aren't they? You'll just get back to work. Even with all this nonsense going on, life continues.

Have a Drive of Dragons...

Now, whoever heard of a dragon nesting in a hollow tree? Granted, it's a gigantic tree, almost the size of a castle itself, which implies a certain supernatural flavor. The trunk is gnarled and dusted with ash, but the leaves are green and unwithered. Smoke rises from within, fragrant, like cinnamon and incense, and from the cleft between two roots comes a glimmer like embers and the sound of rustling wings.

No doubt his quest is what brings Maximus hither, but in what manner will he enter?
bitterguardian: (medieval wary)

He'd rather not, really.

Why can't it ever be anything easy? Merlin never sends him out to fetch anything that doesn't require skill in fighting, diplomacy, or both to obtain. Gone are the days when a quest involved collecting herbs in the forest, or patching up villagers, or simple tracking and observation. Those were dull quests, not properly treasured in their time. Those were a child's errands, and this was what he aspired to; quests of daring won by the skill of sword and magic.

The immortality spell has hung on him little more than a decade, but there are days he's so tired of this.

His horse was left tied to a tree as soon as he got the very first hint of smoke, for its own safety as much as his. Now he draws his sword, and keeps his other hand free for a spell, and circles the tree looking for some entrance.

The hell if he's going in there. He'll have to call it out, but he'd like to know where to expect it to come from.

The smoke is thicker toward the east side of the tree, but there are no bones of any kind, not even animal bones. In fact, life seems to be thicker and more vibrant where the smoke touches, as if it somehow nourished the tree it comes from, and the surrounding flora.

You know, I never expect a knight to knock, but it's generally considered polite to announce a challenge rather than sneak around. The voice comes directly into his head, more thought than sound, but distinctly external for all that. It's impossible to pinpoint a source.

It requires effort of will not to swear out loud, but as it is the aborted impulse may still register. He does speak aloud though, in a rolling, low voice at a volume intended to carry to the being inside the tree. "I was merely scouting the area, with no intent to pursue you inside your own home..." It's truth, and he doubts the dragon will be thrown off by the slant he's given it.

I see. And yet you carry a sword and wear a magic talisman. What is it you want from this place, sorcerer? There's no small amount of irritation in the mental voice. As yet, though, no physical form has emerged either from within the tree or from the forest around.

"That's just practical self-preservation. I'm only after scales..." But there aren't any around, and he doesn't expect this to be easy. Possibly he's been on one too many fighting missions as of late.

There's a sound like a chuckle. Is that so? What do I get in return?

There's a shimmer in the air in front of him, not two feet away, and a hot breeze ruffles his hair.

The shield rises almost instantaneously, and he tenses even more, but doesn't make any aggressive moves. "What would you value?"

Trust would be a good beginning. It's faintly reproachful, but the shimmer continues to coalesce. The being that appears could potentially be described as draconic...if it were seen from a distance or in motion. Up close, it's a sphere of wings and eyes and gleaming red-gold flame. Does it even have scales?

Well, given the way it seems to take form and drop form at will, perhaps it can when it wants to. Failing that, I'd like to know your name.

Horvath backs up a step as it begins to solidify, then blinks and watches with a mix of confusion and awe, albeit still wary. "...Horvath. I've... never seen a dragon like you."

[personal profile] a_singular_cherubim 2012-03-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? How many dragons have you seen? There's a tone of amusement to the kythe, now, but the flames bank into golden embers, as if to reassure him.

I mean you no harm, provided you mean me none. Do you wish to come inside?
bitterguardian: (eyebrow action)

[personal profile] bitterguardian 2012-03-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"...A few. More than most." Horvath sighs, with the weight of a life that's already put him through more experiences than most people have in a full lifetime.

"Come inside?" One eyebrow quirks. He clearly thinks this is a trap.
