I lost myself somewhere along the way

THE AMNESIA MEME

Ah, amnesia. The old standby for soap operas, it usually involves a good knock on the head and a complete loss of memory. Ever wanted to do that to your character? Well, now's your chance.

1. Comment with your characters!
2. Others comment. Optionally, go to RNG and roll the scenario. (As to who gets knocked on the head, well, that's up to you!)
3. ???
4. PROFIT.

1. HEAD-ON COLLISION - ...whoops. It was an honest mistake, really! You didn't see that car/tree/post/person/whatever coming, but now you're stumbling out of the wreckage sans memory. Better ask for help.

2. WAIT, WHO ARE YOU? - Okay, so a while ago, you got into...something that caused you to lose your memory. Fortunately, you managed to get by and create a new identity for yourself. Unfortunately, someone new has just entered your life. Or should I say, someone who's a little too familiar...

3. RINSE AND REPEAT - Sigh. Really, this is just so inconvenient. You wake up everyday with no memory of who you are, and have to figure it out over the course of the day, only to fall asleep and have to do it all over again the next day. Good thing someone's there to help you out, right? And what's with all those post-its and notes?

4. THIS ROOM'S TOO WHITE - Welcome to the hospital. You've got an "Unknown" tag on your wrist, a healthy diet of bland hospital food, a steady trickle of doctors coming in to check up on you, and a TV, and nothing else. Looks like someone's coming to help you today, though! Here's to hoping they knew you before you lost your memory.

5. I'M SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT?! - Oh, crap. There's something only you can do right now--that is, the you who didn't lose your memory, anyway. Better figure out a way out of this mess and how to control your strange abilities before it's too late.

6. FIGHTING FOR THE WRONG SIDE - Uh, oh. Looks like your enemies decided to take advantage of your confused state and convinced you that you're on their side. Here's to hoping your allies can get you back to yourself before you cause some serious damage.

7. JUST TOO TRAUMATIC - You just saw something that's so traumatic you lost your memory because of it. Unfortunately, right now, you have to remember it, or else something really bad happens. Hope you don't regret remembering this!

8. I DON'T WANT THIS - You've been living a peaceful, ordinary life, for a while. And you'd rather it stay that way, because you're not sure if you'd want to remember what went before. Unfortunately, something's coming, and the key to stopping it lies in your memories.

9. NO SUCH THING - Maybe you were a wizard, or a werewolf, or an angel, or a demon, or something else entirely before, or maybe you just knew about the masquerade. Sadly, you've been knocked on the head and now believe yourself to be a perfectly ordinary person. Magic? That doesn't exist, right? Anything can be explained with science, after all! Right?

10. I'M WHO?! - And who the hell are you? Basically, this is the wild card option! Combine one of the above or make up a new one or whatever you want! Go wild!

[The first thing he remembers is white, blinding whiteness as eyes blink open after three hundred years of sleep. Sleep that he may have dreamed through, but he doesn't remember any of it... in fact he doesn't remember anything.

Not his name or where he's from, why he was stuck in a cryo tube out in the middle of space or much of anything. It's surprising enough that his own body remembers how to move, though once his limbs stop tingling and he can move them it's not much. Strapped down onto some odd table, a biobed they call it, he's told that it's just for precautions. So he doesn't hurt himself. Hurt himself? Everything only continues to be more confusing, more questions, more answers that only lead to more questions and it's never ending.

They tell him he's the last of his people, the people that had been on the ship they found with him in it, along with up to eighty others in similar cryo tubes. Malfunction he's told, some how by strange chance and luck his did not fail, he lived. It's a lot to take in, as is the world he's woken up in.

He's given a name. John Harrison. It will do until he remembers his own, remembers who he is at all, but for now he works along with those in Starfleet directly under Admiral Marcus and within three weeks he's learned most things that take three to five years for any cadet to learn at the academy. He only needs to do something once, see it or read about it and he'll never forget, know how to do it. Or he hopes he'll never forget, if his memory doesn't fail him again. So with the means to be a useful member of Starfleet, five weeks after waking up from cryo sleep with no idea who he is or what he's even doing here on Earth, 'John Harrison' finds himself being transferred aboard the USS Enterprise.

He's joined by a Carol Marcus, she's to keep track of him while he's there, make sure everything goes smoothly, but right now he's left her to go look around the ship. He's not been on an actual starship yet, merely mock ups and training rooms, simulations, this is much different in a sense. Everything is much more real and not obviously running on set parameters and script. John wonders if this will be his life now, a little over a month after waking up in this amazing new time and he's going into space soon with an experienced crew of people, made of not just humans, but also aliens, other races from other planets. It's something else.

Taking it all in might just leave him bumping into someone as he wanders down the stark bright white hall, not fully paying attention as he should be.]

Excuse me I-- [He stops, eyes catch the color of the uniform, gold, and the bands on the sleeves that denote his status on the ship.]

Captain. [He bows his head a little in respect, then offers his hand.]

We've not been introduced. John Harrison, I've just been transferred onto your ship... she's very impressive.
uncurbed: (✗ all the things)

ahh yes good.

[ despite being the ship's captain, he's heard very little about the new bodies coming aboard his ship. he has their transfer orders, of course, and they each have files that his first officer has more than made sure he's familiarized himself with. and not that he would ever question the arrival of new recruits, it just seems .. odd that they come out of seemingly nowhere.

no mind, of course. who is he to question anyone assigned to his ship, to perform under his command?

( ahem, that would be james t. kirk, he who questions absolutely everything until there's nothing left to contend with. )

he's making his rounds of the ship before making his way to the bridge when john bumps into him. he knows the face immediately, pupils dilating the slightest bit with recognition; somehow, he hadn't expected to run into him so soon despite his newness to the crew and the need to be familiarized with the inner workings of the ship. ( he might be the captain, but there are others delegated to the task of breaking in the newbies. ) though he does approve of the immediate acknowledgement of his rank, a tiny upward curve of the corner of his mouth the only indication that he thinks anything at all as he takes the proffered hand and shakes it firmly.
]

John - nice to have you aboard. Jim Kirk. [ he pauses, and spares a look around him. his ship is a gorgeous one, that's one thing you'll never be able to convince him differently, and the compliment has that tiny curve of his lips come a bit more prominently. ] Isn't she something? Been through a hell of a lot just in the past year, but what can I say .. she was built for it.

[ he's sure his chief engineer would disagree, that he would argue that his ship is meant to be treated with the utmost care and respect, but jim doesn't exactly have any control over what happens or what doesn't, and it trouble comes along ..

he takes a small breath in, lets it out through his nose.
] Have you been given the formal tour? I think we still do that kinda thing .. whatever. Have you been briefed? Given any assignments?

[ holy mother of god, kirk is actually on top of his shit for once. ]
iambetter: (No really I do.)

[personal profile] iambetter 2013-07-28 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've not yet had the chance to read up on any of your crew's exploits, but I am told your ship has withstood much while you've been in the captain's chair. On the other hand I have taken the liberty of looking up blueprints and schematics of the Enterprise. [He wanted to see how she ticked, how she was put together and worked.]

'Something' is not doing her service, her specs are beyond 'something', amazing actually. [Then again everything has been amazing for him since he woke up. Even if not always amazing in a good way, yet he truly did find himself quite enamored with the starships and everything concerning them, it made it easy for him to keep his mind off everything he didn't know and couldn't remember.]

While I do know the layout, I would not mind a proper tour, if you could spare the time. I know you must be busy, Captain. As for any briefing I was told to check into my quarters and then met with you as soon as possible. [Kirk should have gotten a briefing on Mr. Harrison. A run down on his credentials and that Kirk could use him as he pleased, that he could preform any role in the ship as needed and to utilize this to the fullest extent. There is mention of Carol Marcus as well and that she is to be the only one who handles John for any medical needs and that she will be keeping track of him while they're on the Enterprise. A bit fishy sure, as her doctorates weren't in anything medical really, but well, she was to be given the help of the ships medical staff for anything concerning John Harrison if needed.

That is if Kirk had gotten that briefing and had a look at it yet.]

When it comes to assignments I would have you decide where you would like me. As captain I would imagine you'd know where I would be best suited, where you might need the added help.

[ listen to you, giving all this praise to his ship. he might just have to point you in the direction of the chief engineer, so he can hear it as well.

still, it's always nice to hear someone else admiring the enterprise. she is indeed a beauty in and of herself - a warbird painted in shades of gray, and more than he can say he's ever wanted out of his own ship.

he may just be puffing up a bit.

he has read the briefing - though truthfully, he'll need to go back and read it through again since he'd grazed it on the first pass, but he likes to think he has a good grasp of the man now standing in front of him. having a crewmember at his disposal that could perform any task on the ship that he could possibly need would come in useful .. even if the bit about his medical needs caught him a bit off-guard.

he would ask about that when it became relevant. ( or when curiosity got the better of him and he couldn't stand it anymore. it just sounded odd. )

tapping a finger against the edge of his jaw, jim gives the other man a good once-over.
] I've got the time, especially for a new recruit. Plus, you'll get to see every bit of the ship with me, as opposed to the norm of like .. Engineering and the medbay. Maybe the Bridge if you're lucky. I'll even show you the boring stuff.

[ he pauses, giving a soft note of contemplation in the back of his throat. ] C'mon, we can walk and I'll analyze you on the way. Though with the praise you're giving the ship, I might just have to stick you down in Engineering with Mr. Scott. Especially if you've already familiarized yourself with the schematics.
iambetter: @ merriestchase (Oh Captain.)

[It's praise that's earned, and really he just cannot not marvel at everything. While he doesn't remember his past or much of anything, he does know that when he was last awake before waking up in this time, things weren't like this. The world had been very different.

He just wish he remembered the rest of it.

As for Carol and his medical needs, John didn't fully understand it himself. He knew Carol was not trained in the medical field, at least not to the extent one should be to handle any patients, but she probably had some base information. Still, he did not question it, yet. Not openly. Not when Admiral Marcus was seemingly helping him fit into this new time and world that Earth had become. For now he had not reason to question things like that, not that it didn't bother him in the back of his mind. Nagging.

That once over does not go past him, John has of course taken in the man who he's to call captain on this ship, Kirk seems young, gives off the air of being brash and jumping before thinking, but who's to say what first appearances are anything to go by. He's been kind to him so he's got no qualms with him, especially as he's offering to take the time to show him around. John will walk with him, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.]

I can assure you, none of this is boring.

[Nothing has been boring since he woke up. Confusing, yes, a whirl and blur of time going by quickly as he's pushed into this new life, yep that too, but boring? Far from it.]

I would not be against being allowed a more intimate look at what makes her work, as long as Mr. Scott does not mind. Unless this is your way of getting me off your hands already? [Sticking him down in engineering and leaving him to Scotty so he doesn't have to deal with him. Cruel.]

[ questioning things that seem out of place, or that just need questioning is one of the things jim does best. it very nearly always gets him into some measure of trouble, but he always finds a way out of it, because thank you very much he tends to know what he's doing.

just. after the fact. but what matters is he does end up knowing what to do, no matter how long it takes him to get from point a to point b.

he takes in the other man giving his own inspection, wonders what passes through his mind at the image of him standing there. he does look young, yes - and maybe he hasn't grown up as much as he could have since becoming the captain of the fleet's prized flagship, but he likes to think he looks the part more than he had a year previously.

as long as he doesn't look like a kid trying to play at being a captain, he can't really complain.

he smiles back, though, easy and warm as ever - might as well be welcoming, right?
] Hey, people get bored of tours when they don't get to see the really interesting stuff. You have no idea how many people ask me if they can come up and see the warp core.

[ and then he's laughing, pushing a hand through blond hair and shaking his head. ] You really think I'm trying to get rid of you? My reputation isn't that bad, is it? [ he would never leave anyone down there with scotty for too long. especially if he expected them to still be functioning members of his crew once they were out of his presence.

jim's pretty sure the engineer drinks during his shifts sometimes. but if that makes his calculations more on-point, then why the hell not let him? who knows what kind of practices he had on delta vega?

[To John this is all interesting, to the most mundane to the very amazing. Then again being in his shoes one could see how that would be the case. He does however raise a brow at the mention of people wanting to see the warp core up close.]

Highly dangerous, though certainly interesting. While I would not mind a closer look one day, I think we can skip the warp core this time. [If they had the proper protection to go in there then sure, but he also doesn't want to take up all of Kirk's time either.]

Any reputation you have beyond your skills as a captain are unknown to me, [Yet he'll look amused by the suggestion that Kirk is blowing him off like some date he didn't want to deal with.] Though I've no doubt I'll learn all about it during my time on your ship.

[ to have someone so interested in even the most mundane parts of the ship is refreshing. it's .. almost like when chekov had first come aboard; he's heard the stories, much to the ensign's dismay and utter embarrassment. kid apparently had been able to keep from touching everything in his excitement, especially once he'd been shown his station.

sometimes jim forgets just how young he is, given everything he's seen and how he operates under pressure. it's easy to look over the fact that he's still just a teenager, barely eighteen and giving his life away to starfleet.
] Imposing on Scotty is one of the things that I like best about strolling through Engineering. [ he says it with a small grin, a glimmer in the corners of blue eyes.

he loves his chief engineer. he really does. but he loves fucking with him even more.
] We'll make it happen.

[ his shoulders roll in a small shrug, a dismissive wave of his hand. this guy .. really is too serious for his own good. gonna have to loosen you up, aren't we, mr. harrison? the amusement in the other man's eyes is a good sign, though, and his mouth pulls into a smaller version of his usual smirk, cockiness practically bleeding out of him.

jim, stop.
] Whatever the rest of the crew says, I swear to god it isn't true. If it's bad, anyway. If it's good, then it's totally true.
iambetter: @ merriestchase (I believe you're trying to seduce me.)

[Kirk if you saw the ship he'd been in cryo sleep on you'd understand his interest and amazement in the Enterprise. Not that he remembered much about the ship they'd been in, or those he'd been with. He just knew they'd all died and he was the only survivor.

Or so he's been told. The one thing that bothers him is that they won't let him see anything. Not the bodies of those who'd apparently been with him, nor the ship they'd found them on. It wreaks of something amiss, but what can he do? There is a part of him that wonders why he listens or takes their word, but right now he does what he can. Being on the Enterprise is something he can do, it's a distraction, yet at the same time it's solidifying all the new skills and information he'd learned in his time awake. Better to be prepared for anything by learning everything he could.]

So then you are the perfect captain, is that what I'm supposed to believe?

[John admittedly finds far too much amusement in this Jim Kirk, cockiness aside, he's read enough about what the Enterprise had been up to prior his arrival that he could believe some of that. He does seem over confident, but that's not entirely a bad thing if he can back it up. Though it's also refreshing to have someone talk to him like a person than as something to be poked and prodded. While Admiral Marcus and his people directly helping him and taking care of things have been nothing but helpful, they've also treated him more like an experiment than anything else.

Kirk has been the first real connection, even if it's only been for a few moments now, that feels like genuine conversation and interaction. Not something that will be written down and kept track of. Not more data. There is some annoyance at that... a familiar one too, but he doesn't know how to place it.]

If that's the case, I'm being told I'm better than any of your crew members, but I hardly want to brag. But if we are going to. [Though he does quirk a brow up as he says it, as if really he does, but he's trying to be modest. Really he is. Honest.]

[ well, maybe. but he's also been spoiled with the enterprise, all of her bells and whistles and buttons, so all other ships, in comparison, are on the other end of the spectrum.

and again, questioning things to the very end of the line is something that he does best; if he were in john's position, he would be the one raising hell until he got some answers. he's never been the type to take something at face value if it doesn't seem right, and with the other's situation .. he would surely be dissatisfied with everything he'd been fed. but if he doesn't feel the need to question beyond what he's been told, who is jim to say he should push further?

.. okay. so that's a loaded question if there ever was one, but. moving right along, here ..

a single brow quirks upward, a deeper shadow of that smirk turning the very corner up his mouth upward.
] Never been one to toot my own horn, but if you wanna think it, I sure as hell can't stop you.

[ jim. what have we said about you being full of shit. must we keep repeating ourselves.

of course we must.

and that isn't to say, though, that he doesn't occasionally have the bite to back up his bark. ( .. ha. ) he might be full of hot air, might like making it seem that he's gotten too big for his britches uniform pants, but for the most part .. he isn't just all talk. he has a hell of a lot of bravado, an ego that needs its own zip code and a personality that has more facets than an earth diamond - but it's just the package he comes in.

that is the essence of james t. kirk.

they're walking, and john says that, and jim's brows quirk upwards even more sharply. hardly want to brag .. maybe i should give you a reason to. he's all for giving crewmembers a moment to shine, to prove themselves valuable beyond what they believe themselves capable of - and those were the magic words.

a man after himself.
] Better than any of my crew .. huh. Has anyone told you about Spock, yet? If you're better than him at something, I'll buy you a damn steak dinner.

[ and that has a thought turning in his head. something that won't stop until he voices it, a tiny little niggling thing that gnaws at the back of his mind until he deigns to give it a voice. ] Got half a mind to put you two against each other in .. something. He kicks my ass at chess any chance he gets.
iambetter: @ merriestchase (That smirk. You asshole.)

[personal profile] iambetter 2013-08-04 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[When and if any memories start to come back he will question everything. Right now he's just trying to get something solid under his feet. A place to start if memories don't come back. He still questions things, but so far he's not been able to get much for answers.

Needless to say if he were more his 'normal' self, he'd be making a much bigger fuss about all of this. For now John continues on, appearing to be calm and collected, some how this feels right, like something he would do. It's easier to figure others out when you're not jumping about like a mad man demanding answers.]

Oh I doubt you would.

[Stop him that is. Why would anyone want someone to stop thinking that they're perfect or good at things? That just seems silly. Though strangely, Kirk and John are rather similar in many respects. Sort of. John isn't full of hot air though, nor does he speak out of mere ego. He knows he can prove what he says, or he's damn confident enough to try. That comes with a large ego of course, so they might need to work on setting up boundaries where one ego starts and the other one ends, otherwise they'll trip up all over them.]

I've heard of your First Officer, yes. Spock, a Vulcan, though I've not formally met any of his kind or any not human yet, I have been brought up to date to an extent on Earth's current relations with other races and I must admit it's... quite hard to believe still. [The proof he's been shown is something he can't deny and really, thinking humans were the only ones out there in the universe was just closed thinking from the get go. It's just a shock to wake up and everything is so different. Fundamentally the same, but still different, with many new faces to be sure.

It's his turn to brow raise again at Kirk, looking more than amused. It seemed it would be the standard thing between them. Raised brows and mutual amusement at one another.]

I didn't realize steak dinner was standard on starships, Captain. Perhaps if you could include a few glasses of your finest red wine I could work on it. [Wine and dine him and he'll certainly be better than this Spock at things.]

[ well, that's .. pardon his complete lack of eloquence, but that's balls. questions are meant to be answered, and he's found that the only time you get the run-around is when there's something weird going on. hm .. interesting.

he'd be glad to know the other is beginning to feel comfortable. because for all he's concerned, this will be john's new home for quite a while; every member of his crew is an extension of the family he'd never really had, as much as he loves his brother and mother. ( stepdad can go suck a dick, though. ahem. )

the corner of his mouth curls into something of a more wry smile at that comment. he'll never stop anyone from thinking - or saying, out loud - that they think positively of him. he doesn't .. necessarily push his opinion of himself on anyone, but more or less, he does boast quite a bit. and he likes to think that he always gives them a reason to listening to his nonsense in the first place, because he makes a truth out of his posturing.

that whole constant need to prove himself, thing .. yeah, it's not something that's going to go away anytime soon.

at that, he makes a thoughtful sound.
] So .. what were things like for you? Back then, I mean? [ because it's pretty difficult for him to think that there weren't always vulcans or klingons roaming around in their own little bit of space.

or, in the klingons' case, any space they wanted that didn't belong to the federation.

that quirk of a brow is more than a little intriguing, if he does say so himself, and he chuckles low in the back of his throat. nods in ascension.

In the long run what John is doing will benefit him, he knows that much. He can wait, he can be patient, until then he will hope any memories will come back to him to help fill in all the holes.]

I can tell you that there was no Starfleet, none of this.

[He motions to the ship in general as they walk. Fleets of space capable ships of this size? Merely a dream in his time. Works of fiction and in movies.]

Much that you take for granted in this time was not as it was in mine. Much simpler, or perhaps harder by default. Everything is so streamlined now, on demand and instant. Humanity has made great achievements through the years, especially in this aspect.

[Meaning the Enterprise. Hell the ship him and his people had been in, plus their cryo tubes were no doubt the highest form of technology at the time, not that he remembered. That it all worked and they were able to sleep away for three hundred years and the majority of them weren't dead from system failure? A miracle.]

I would imagine you must keep record of things from that time, of history, have you never taken a look that far back?

[And oh, is that a promise on the fake crap? Fake or not, he'll hold Kirk to it.]

So then, is that still termed a 'date' in this time?

[Fake crap steak and fake crap red wine. Totally a date.]

] I think so .. but what's it matter? We can call it what we want.

[ the term date is one that he knows well. might as well make use of it.

[And so a 'date' it would be. Though first he had to prove himself worthy of it. Which John is more than up to do. It had not been easy, as he'd never played chess this way before, it was a bit different to say the least. Yet he was able to pick up on it quick enough, quicker than anyone else would have, except perhaps Spock of course.

Their first game goes to Spock. The second he manages to take and the third would be the tie breaker, which John takes with utmost confidence. It was certainly a learning experience playing against Spock, he would have to do it again some time, but now he was too busy enjoying watching how the Vulcan First Officer seems rather perturbed by his loss. Probably not used to it, considering his skill.

When him and Kirk have settled in his quarters with an actual bottle of red wine, amazingly the real thing, Khan will gather the bottle to his side of the small table with long fingers. Holding the neck of the bottle he turns it around to have a look at the bottle proper, wondering the year on it.]

It was obvious I was not used to this specific game of chess, no doubt Mr. Spock picked up on it, so I used that against him. I made beginners mistakes on purpose to see how he played, to see his strategies. [Khan's eyes flicker up from the wine to Kirk, there is a smile in them.]

And then I used what I'd learned to beat him, though it is not to say it came easily. He was a formidable foe. [He'll give Spock that much. Plucking the bottle from the table he leans forward swiftly, pouring them both a full glass before he settles back in his chair, holding the glass up in a mock cheer. Taking a good sized sip of the red liquid he'll let it settle against his tongue, swallowing it down. He hums, seeming to find it agreeable.]

... assuredly better than what your replicators could have come up with.

[ it doesn't look like he'd had any real trouble proving himself. he's surprised that it had taken as long as it had for the whole thing to end -

.. actually, no he isn't. his first officer is headstrong above all else, and being beaten at his own game ( quite literally ) is surely something that he never would have seen coming. jim gets the feeling that spock is going to be a little difficult to deal with over the course of the next few days.

settled now as they are, he finds himself watching the curl of those long fingers around the neck of the bottle and busies himself with taking a drink from his glass once the other pours for them, licking his lips with a slow kind of relish as he listens to what the other man has to say. everything that comes out of his mouth is straight from a mind so sharp it may very well be dangerous - and he tucks that small bit of information away, just in case he finds he needs it in the future.

he hums softly in the back of his throat, contemplative.
] I'm starting to wonder how I got lucky enough to get a guy like you on my crew. I'm already thinking of ways I can put that mind to use.

[ jim. watch what you're saying here. really.

though he does have to agree with him on the wine.
] Guess I'm also lucky that I have a chief medical officer that occasionally has a penchant for drinking himself stupid. Man's got a stash like I've never seen before.

[John's eyes watch with much interest the tongue that slowly licks over Jim's lips, they only flicker up over the rim of his own glass once Jim starts to talk again.]

And he is lucky that drinking does nothing for me beyond enjoying the flavor. Otherwise I might have to borrow more than what you've already confiscated for us. [That's right, can't get drunk, won't feel that warm fuzzy feeling. Nothing.

John will grin from behind his glass before he takes another hearty drink, licking his own lips in turn. The taste is very good after all.]

And just what did you have in mind for me, Captain?

[Or his mind. But we'll let Jim take that however he wants.]

[ it would appear that they're going to continue this dance of subtle .. something. jim takes note of those eyes following the path of his tongue over his lips, his own falling half-lidded for a small moment before he remembers himself and forces his expression into something more neutral.

he swallows another mouthful with a thoughtful hum, quirking a brow at the other man's comment.
] Can't get drunk, huh? I feel sorry for you, then. Sometimes there's nothing like that nice, fuzzy feeling when you've had just enough. [ like he's going to be feeling if he keeps drinking like he is, but he is by no means a lightweight.

if they continue through this bottle, though ..

.. jesus, but that voice is unfair. there's a tiny, infinitesimal shiver when captain falls from the other man's tongue, and he attempts to mask it with a small shift in his chair.

except you're not fooling anyone, jim.
] Could damn well put you anywhere, honestly .. but I'm wondering if you'd be more fitted for Engineering than anything else. Maybe weaponry.
iambetter: @ merriestchase (I believe you're trying to seduce me.)

[personal profile] iambetter 2013-08-09 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say I'm disappointed I can't, but having never experienced it before I don't believe I'm missing anything. [Though he has watched others go through it of course. He would be interested to see how quick it effected Kirk. If it did.

And this something going on between them is an interesting game for John to focus on, he does find it intriguing. The shiver that Kirk tries to mask as simple movement has a quirk of a smile on his lips, but he quickly schools it back into a more serious look.]

I can be fitted to where ever your needs are, Captain.

[He's just doing a small experiment now, seeing if using the same lilt to his voice with the word 'captain' will get the same reaction. Or if it will change.]

If Engineering is where you need me than I shall work there. If you think me better suited to handle weaponry then I can take that instead. You are the captain, I follow your orders.

[He'll finish off his glass, picking up the bottle to dip it towards Kirk's glass in offer.]

Would you care for more? [And there is that suggestive eyebrow going up.]

[ it'll take more than a single glass of wine to get him even remotely buzzed - but he does happen to have his own stash if they get through that bottle and he ends up wanting more. though he doesn't really know how well whiskey would sit on top of win .. hm.

his eyes narrow lightly as he takes in that shadow of a smile, as it melts into something passive and he says captain in that same low rumble, and damn it. he manages not to shiver, but he does lick his lips distractedly, a tiny bit of heat flushing his cheeks that he is more than willing to attempt to blame on the alcohol.

god, why did you have to phrase it like that ..

i follow your orders.

you little shit, you're doing this on purpose.

jim gives a soft huff, an amused sort of thing as he drained his own glass and takes the offering of more. it isn't hitting him yet, but he has a feeling the thrall of the other's voice is doing something to his damn head that ends up making him feel a bit fuzzy around the edges.

he coughs, clears his throat.
] More's always good. [ take that. ] And I might give you a trial run on both, see which fits you more. Wherever you end up, I want the whole of your focus on that instead of splitting you between the two. Much as I think you'd be well-suited for both.
iambetter: @ merriestchase (Your profile is ridiculous.)

[personal profile] iambetter 2013-08-12 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[On purpose? Whatever gave that away? Kirk does well to not react to it, even if his face does flush ever so, still, could be the alcohol. John is tempted to keep pushing, to keep being sneakily suggestive.

Instead he'll pour Kirk more wine, filling it to the top. Drink up, Captain.]

Then I'll be sure to report to your Chief Engineer as soon as possible.

[Setting the bottle down again, John settles back in his seat, hands settling on the arm rests and unlike Kirk, who sits with his legs as wide open as possible, John crosses one leg over the other. Comfortable, yet still his posture is not as relaxed as it could be. Probably just second nature, he doesn't even think about it.]

When not enjoying a decent meal and drink, what else does your crew do here to unwind? [Beyond beating Vulcan's in chess.]

[ yes, on purpose. he's just naturally intuitive. just .. stop.

when his glass is refilled, he'll take another long drink before setting it down, again licking his lips in a way that would bring anyone's attention to his mouth. he nods, though.
] Start of alpha shift in the morning, if you don't mind. I'd like to get this underway as soon as we can so I don't waste any time with you being somewhere other than where you'll do me the most good.

[ he doesn't pay attention to his own posture; he's more likely to slouch than anything, giving the illusion that he belives he belongs wherever he deems to park himself, owning every inch of space he occupies. it's just how he rolls.

a contemplative sort of noise sifts up from the back of his throat. where does he even begin to answer that question?
]

Depends on who you ask, really .. Scotty likes trying to get away with gambling on whatever he can get away with, Sulu crossbreeds hybrid, terrifying plants, Bones drinks .. [ there's a pause, and he shrugs. ] We all get into our own brand of trouble.

[Only if you order me to, Captain.

Oh his eyes do find themselves on that mouth, lips that are almost obscene when licked like that. John is so focused on them that it takes a second too long for him to respond to what Kirk says.]

Of course, Captain.

[John is merely so used to looking intimidating, being ready to move at any second if need be. Locked and loaded basically, even if he doesn't remember why, his body remembers it. He can't help but stand, sit and generally move as if he's expected to just fend off an attack at any second. It should unnerve him, but it doesn't.

Though John doesn't think any less of Kirk for sitting like he owns the whole ship. He is captain after all, he should look like he's the damn king of the world, minus the crown.]

Nothing of the physical variety? [A brow goes up in question.]

There is no sport to be played aboard the ship to work out stress and pent up energy?

[ you keep it up and he just might have to.

fucker.

and oh, if you think he doesn't notice your staring at his mouth .. wrong. bright blue eyes narrow for a split second, and jim catches the swell of his bottom lip between his teeth, worrying at it absently before taking another sip from his glass. he swallows lightly, leaning forward and bracing his forearms against the edge of the table, setting john with a contemplative gaze.

nothing of the physical variety ..

oh, nice choice of wording, there, sir. few points to you for execution.
] Well, sure .. naturally. There's almost an entire deck dedicated to exercise and shit. Mats for training in hand-to-hand or whatever you might wanna focus on, weight-lifting, pretty much anything you could think of, you can get away with.

[ he pauses, quirking a brow of his own with a lazy half-smirk. ] It's all just a matter of how creative you are.
iambetter: @ merriestchase (Never have enough serious talk icons.)

it's a very good view A+ would view again

[personal profile] iambetter 2013-08-12 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Who's the fucker now teasing that plump bottom lip like that? I believe that is one James T. Kirk. The only acknowledgement to it John will give is of course looking, but his fingers will absently stroke along the arm of the chair, before he seems to notice it.

It's probably wrong that he barely knows this man, has spent so little time with him, but yet he would like nothing more than to find out what else could look good against those lips. Three hundred years of cryo sleep does that to a man apparently and Kirk intrigued him.

Of course John knew about the deck that Kirk mentions, he'd studied the layout of the ship after all, but he was merely asking to hear it from him. For conversation sake.]

I hardly need training in hand-to-hand, but a decent sparing partner is another thing. [Creative huh? Do tell.]

I will have to take a closer look at this deck when I have a moment, perhaps after working in Engineering. [And John shifts just a bit in his seat, settling for a more open legged position, a hand resting on one thigh.]

Will I be seeing you there as well?

Of course.
