Rabbit Done Died Meme

"The rabbit died" is an old saying meaning one is pregnant, coming from the now no longer practiced rabbit test.

Congratulations!

You're pregnant. Knocked up. Eating for two. Have a bun in the oven.
Insert your own cliched phrase here. No matter how you say it, you're
downright fertilized. Even if you're not typically in possession of a
womb, somehow it happened. Are you scared? Happy? Gassy? A combination
of everything? And who's the father, anyway?

1. Post with your character with their name and series in the subject line. If
you want to avoid any of the options, this would also be a good place to
list them.
2. This is one of those RNG memes, so you'll want to go to our good friend Random Number Generator and roll 1-6 for how far along you are. Or just pick what one you'd prefer.
3. If you're replying to someone, roll 1-4 for how you factor into this madness!

So, how far along are you anyway?

1. Two months - Sooooo all this sickness is kind of annoying, isn't it? At least you can still fit in your old clothes, right?

2. Four months - Okay, so things are getting a little tight. Time to break out the flowy stuff!

3. Six months - OH MY GOD IT'S AN ALI-- oh, no. It's just the baby moving. Although it's still kind of creepy, isn't it?

4. Eight months - Please. Please let it be over. Have mercy.

5. Overdue - C'mon kid! I'll buy you a pony! NO! TWO PONIES! My baaaaaack.

6. Wildcard - Your choice!

What's your role in this whole mess, person replying?

1. YOU ARE THE FATHER - Well, now you've gone and done it. Are you going to take responsibility, or head for the hills?

2. Friend - You may not have done the deed, but you're going to be there to help your buddy. No matter HOW weird the circumstances!

3. Enemy - Do you feel a 'HAW HAW' coming on? This is just too funny.

4. Wildcard - Second verse, same as the first.

Not my meme. Shamelessly copied!

Ling wore a cheerful smile on his face that wasn't the least bit fake as he returned home from work at Shibusen to his-- their-- place. He carried a bag full of Chinese takeout (though he insists it is Xingese) in his left hand, a bottle of expensive "sake" in his right hand, and an armful of gardenias in his right elbow. He maneuvered the key in the lock without dropping a thing.

"I'm home," he called out softly, in case she was busy with something of her own.

Tomoe had been home most of the day, leaving the shop to Bakura to see a doctor about a lingering case of weakness and nausea that she couldn't seem to shake. She had a bit of a suspicion by then of just what was wrong--but considering the usual marker for such a state had always been rather... hit or miss for her it took her a little longer than most to make the connection.

But regardless. She had a confirmation now. And had spent the remainder of the afternoon in their home in quiet contemplation over it. It was unexpected news, certainly. She couldn't say that it was unwanted--not after an extensive conversation kicked off by penguins of all things months ago--but... unexpected. Unplanned.

And she couldn't help but wonder if Ling was going to come up with yet another horse analogy for himself in this situation. He had a penchant for those...

She heard him unlocking the door and moved to greet him, still wearing her western clothing from earlier in the day (because undressing from a kimono to get into one of those ridiculous flimsy gowns was not something she wanted to deal with). She gave him a warm smile, particularly in seeing the flowers. "Welcome home--here, let me take something," she said, reaching out to take something out of his arms.

Ling leaned in to brush her ear softly with his lips. When he breathed in, he could smell the scent of her skin and hair. He allowed himself a deep breath, lingering there for just a few extra moments.

Then he pulled away to grin teasingly at her. "There. You can take that," he purred, and then he skipped away into the kitchen.

Tomoe's breath caught just a little at the gesture, her smile pulling a little more--and then she had to hold back the urge to roll her eyes when he moved off leaving her empty-handed.

She turned and followed him to the kitchen, one hand subconsciously moving to her stomach. She'd been thinking about what to say for hours and still had no idea of exactly how to bring it up.

"How was your day?" she asked, reaching out for the flowers at least when she caught up with him.

Ling held the flowers out to her at long last, with a smile. He stacked the other things on the kitchen table. "Long and boring! So I'm glad to be home. Supposedly they'll send me out on some missions soon to get readings on Madness. I thought I'd take you along!" His smile was wide and excited as he unpacked his bags. "They're letting me choose from a short list and this time I get first pick. Soooo.... would you prefer somewhere warm and tropical, or somewhere cold and snowy?"

He whipped out a bunch of gorgeous travel brochures and reached past her to spread them on the table with a flourish. "I don't know much about any of these places, other than where I've gone over the years, so... it's your pick. It doesn't matter to me where we go."

Tomoe took the flowers, her lips still pulling in that small smile. It was a gesture that didn't get old for her and one he seemed to keep up with quite readily. That joy of fresh flowers was probably the most frivolous thing she took part in--but everyone should be allowed one vice.

"I don't care for snow," she answered, stepping closer to the table to look over the possible locations and quickly pushed aside anything that had a hint of white on the front--she had far too many bad memories where snow was concerned. Of course her mind came back quickly to the topic at hand--or not yet at hand. "How... soon do you expect these missions to be...?"

"End of the month?" Ling guessed. "But maybe sooner. If you're worried about the heat, I'll make sure to get a room with the 'indoor climate control' machines in it."

He opened a brochure and read the name aloud. "Fiji. Look, it even sounds Xingese." He flipped through the pages to show her tropical beaches, swinging from palm trees into secluded little lagoons, rock climbing, riding around in a jeep in the jungle. Best of all, there was quite a fancy shot of the hotel room in which there was a gigantic bed with a mosquito net, a balcony for watching the stars, and a lady was bathing in a deep soaking tub, up to her neck in colorful flowers while a pair of hands massaged her back.

He winked at her. "Place like this, I may not even leave the room," he whispered into her ear with a playful smirk.

"No, nothing like that," she answered, glad that both of her hands were busy so that one didn't move to her stomach again. She looked over to the brochure he was flipping through. It certainly looked beautiful, no argument about that. She huffed lightly to his commentary, blushing a bit at what he was insinuating and gave him the smallest elbow with an answering smirk of her own. "If you do that Mustang-san will simply forbid me going on missions with you at all."

Tomoe glanced back down to the tabletop, pushing the small booklets out a bit more to see them all when her eyes fell on... a very clear image of Mt. Fuji. She snatched the booklet up, her eyes widening a bit, and just held it up for him to see. "Japan... Japan is on the list?"
forhispeople: (listening and thinking about it)

[personal profile] forhispeople 2012-03-19 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah! Does that... sound interesting to you?" he wondered. He hadn't known if that would be a place she would want to avoid because of memories. "I didn't see any mountain climbing or parachuting in that one, though," he pointed out, as if that was really something she would want to do. "Or even surfing."

Tomoe glanced up for a moment, giving him a bit of a flat stare in regards to all of the height-related activities he'd just mentioned, considering she couldn't even stand on a chair without getting nervous. She turned to set the flowers on the tabletop, she'd find a vase for them in a moment, so that she could use both hands to page nervously through the booklet, unsure of what she was going to see.

"I... have thought... about going back..." she said quietly, turning the first few pages to see cityscapes that would never have suggested Japan to her at all had she not known what she was looking at. "But it won't actually be... home..." Another page of modern buildings, modern restaurants and attractions.

And then an image of the Sensouji temple and the Asakusa shrine. She stopped and set her fingers against the images, the first bit of recognition there. Another page displayed hanami... and another Obon. She slowly closed the booklet and sat it down on the table again. "But maybe not... while you are on a mission..." Her left hand moved over her stomach again without thinking about it.

"Ling, I need to tell you something before we make any sort of travel plans... I would think it might affect the decision..."
forhispeople: (who me i'm not suspicious at all)

"If you want to go to Ja Pan, say the word and we're there," Ling said immediately, wrapping his arms around her. He searched her expression, looking into her eyes. "I didn't know if it would be fun for you, or if it would bring back bad memories. So... I thought I'd follow your lead."

Ling took Tomoe's hand in both of his and kissed her knuckles, then the back of her hand. "I'll take you anywhere you want. Your wish is my command," he flashed her a crooked smile, kissing her palm, then the inside of her wrist. "My princess."

He was already kissing a row of soft, gentle kisses up her arm (apparently he had an idea where he wanted to take her at the moment) when she said she needed to tell him something. He looked up at her through lowered eyelashes. "Can it wait? I'm attempting to put my moves on you," Ling teased in a stage whisper.

She smiled softly, giving her head a small shake at his usual obsession with kissing her hands. "I'm sure... it would be a combination. A personal trip would probably be better than a part of a mission..." she had the feeling she would probably need an obnoxious amount of support--or at least what she would perceive as obnoxious.

Tomoe threaded her fingers with his, even while he continued to kiss his way up her arm, answering his question with a raised brow. "I suppose it can, but I have the feeling you would rather know now," she said, turning more directly toward him, her free hand moving to touch his other arm.

"Do you remember that conversation we had months ago...? That started off about penguins, hm?" It had started off as a silly, curious conversation... and turned into something quite serious--specifically about the matter at hand. She hoped bringing that topic up again would offer a gentle transition.

"Uh-huh," Ling chuckled. "But don't worry, you don't really waddle in your 'kimono.' I was just teasing," he answered.

[personal profile] willing_sheath 2012-03-20 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
She huffed lightly, answering the remark with a playful shove that had no strength behind it. "That... isn't the point. You remember the rest of the conversation...?" she looked up, her arms warm and searching. "About... fathers and children...? How you wanted those things to be...?"
forhispeople: (listening but i hope it's about food)

Ling was too shy to look at her after she said that. He froze in place, still as a statue. There was an apprehensive prickle at the back of his neck. No, don't jump to conclusions. Just, don't.

"Yes?" he managed to ask, trying to force the tone of his voice not to change in response.
willing_sheath: (not sure what to think yet)

She turned her eyes down again, pulling his hand close to her and holding it in both of hers. "What if I told you... you were going to have the chance... to do exactly that...?" She paused, stroking her thumb against the back of his hand. "I took the day off work today... and went to the doctor..." she turned his hand around to press his palm against her stomach, settling her hands over his.

"I'm about eight weeks pregnant..." she squeezed his hand, and finally looked up again after a long pause, nervous for his reaction.
