Looks like the weather forecast was right; it's absolutely pouring! And most people are complaining about the sudden downpour.

But forget those negative nellies! Just post a comment with your series name and character name as usual, as well as any other notes you wish to add, then pick a prompt using the RNG and get started!

1. OMG RAIN!!!

Rain is just the BEST THING EVER, RIGHT?! Well, that's what you think and you're determined to have a good time. Either going for a walk or splashing through puddles or even just sitting around and getting wet, you're going to milk every second of this rain and drag your friends along for the ride.

2. FUCK YOU, RAIN.

Oh god, it's raining. This just completely ruins your day. Maybe you were planning to go shopping but the roads are still flooded up, or because the school closed thanks to the storm, you need to hire a last minute babysitter for your kids. Whatever the reason for it, you're not pleased about this rain and you don't care what anyone else thinks.

3. RAIN SIEGE

Oh lord, it looks like you're stuck inside. It's raining too hard for you to even think of leaving! Will you make a daring escape in a ridiculous raincoat or will you just give up and watch TV? But what if you run out of snacks? Or the TV reception dies?!

4. A WALK IN THE RAIN

Nothing like the sound of rain beating against your umbrella, right? You don't really care either way about the chaos and even though it's chilly, the one thing you want to do today is head out for a walk in the rain and maybe grab a hot chocolate on the way back.

[ Eliot should be home by now. In fact, that was what he told Loki when he went on this job, no more than a week. Except it was the end of the week, and rather than the werewolf walking through the door, what Loki got was a phone call.

There were unexpected complications, and as much as Eliot hated it, he would have to be delayed. ]

I'm sorry, man. Really, I am. But yeah, I expect at least another week.

[ Eliot is the only person who knows his number (the whole reason he even got the blasted thing was so they could keep in contact and because Angry Birds was an oddly satisfying thing,) so of course he's the only one calling. He finds himself staring at the caller display before he picks up, and for some reason he's not surprised. He's been watching the rain for hours now, it was like some sort of sign.

He hates that he's become some whining, clinging individual who ceases to function without their other half, so he tries to pretend he's not bothered. Merely concerned. ]

Are you hurt? [ if that was the cause for delay, Loki would just go to him, so he could yell at him personally. ]

[ Given that Eliot was very aware of that, even if he was hurt, did he think he would worry his lover by answering positively?

But he wasn't, so he wouldn't have to lie. ]

No, it's this job... Complications came up and I gotta take longer to prep this than I'd like.

Should've told you sooner... but I was hopin' a chance to get in and out without needin' to.

[ Even if Loki was faking nonchalance, Eliot knew he disappointed his lover. ] I'm sorry, really.

[ There would've been hints, a hitch or twinge in Eliot's breathing or a strain in his voice. Loki could usually tell right off the bat.

But there wasn't anything immediately telling of an injured wolf on the other line, so he let that one go. Of course, it brought up many other suspicions of why Eliot was going to be so late - centuries of not trusting a single word out of anyone's mouth was a hard habit to kick. Times like this, it was hard to shake it, even for someone he loved so much. ]

I see. [ he tries not to sound too hurt. There's a soft tapping of his fingers against the window glass as he contemplates. ] Then, I suppose I will expect your return by the end of next week. Try not to do anything stupid.

[ None of that, no, just a relaxed soft breathing from Eliot sitting in his hotel room. Loki wasn't the only one who missed his lover. ]

Got no intention of doin' anythin' like that.

[ He let the silence sit a bit, and when he thought Loki still sounded upset, he knew his lover, Eliot spoke up a bit. ]

I miss you, Alpha. I wish I was back there with you.

[ At least that, but just because he had Eliot's word that he wouldn't get himself hurt didn't mean it still couldn't happen. It was unpredictable, especially in the dangerous line of work he was in. ]

Hurry and finish your job, wolf.

[ For a minute he just watches out the window, wondering if it's raining where Eliot is. ]

The sooner you complete your task, then the sooner you will return, no?

Yeah... [ Eliot would watch himself nonetheless. He wouldn't want his godly lover to get upset at him for getting shot or something. ][ Strange, when was the last time he talked to someone over the phone for anything other than business, or a few quick words if it wasn't? ]

If you're not doin' anythin'.... wanna talk to me?

[ He'd be a lot more than just upset - though Eliot surely remembers those arguments. ]

About what?

[ Considering his current mood, Loki doesn't know if he's in the right state of mind for a decent conversation. But he also doesn't want to stop listening to his wolf's voice. ]

Nothing has changed since your departure.

[ Not that Eliot was so easiily dissuaded. He was alone in his hotel room when he would rather be with his lover, their tenuous link through the phone wasn't something he planned to close quickly. ]

Tell me about your day. What're you doin' right now?

[ Inane subjects, just so he could hear his Alpha's voice. Their wishes weren't that different from each other's. ]

I'm speaking with you on the phone.

[ Obviously. What else is he doing right now?

But Loki knows that being snappy and curt isn't going to get them anywhere, and as much as he just wants to yell at Eliot for leaving and leaving and leaving again, he knows there's no point. He shouldn't be investing so much into a mortal being in the first place. ]

... it's been raining all day. I made tea. [ you're missing out, it's damn good tea. ]

[ Eliot was almost taken aback by Loki's annoyance. He knew that this probably disappointed his lover, alright, disappointed him a lot, but he didn't expect the man to snap back at him like this. It wasn't like Eliot wanted to stay another week. ]

... Yeah? It's been that way here too. A soft drizzle, freakin' cold.

[ He hesitated, wondering unsure if talking on the phone was a great idea after all. He wanted to talk to Loki, but if Loki wanted to hang up... ]

Uh... You want me to go?

[ The way Eliot hesitates with his replies is only so telling, and while Loki knows he should've kept his temper in check, he blames Eliot for going off on yet another excursion anyway. He wouldn't have to lose his temper if Eliot didn't provoke it. ]

No.

[ He finds himself leaning further against the glass, the rain drops blurring the city on the other side. ]

But that never stops you, does it?

[ Eliot sighed, a loud noise through the receiver that was transmitted hundreds of miles away. ]

Look... I'm sorry, I really am. I can't leave this in the middle or I'd come back to you now.

[ He shook his head though that couldn't be sensed like his sigh could be. ]

Loki... Alpha... [ He trailed off, not knowing what to say. He should hang up, but he didn't want to do that either. He wasn't sure if Loki wanted him to though. ]

[ Loki knows Eliot's jobs are dangerous and time consuming, and that his involvement is required, otherwise everything fails and Eliot would be in more danger. He knows it's better to just let him go accomplish his tasks and be done with it. But he doesn't have to like it. ]

You should get some sleep.

[ Truthfully, he's exhausted too, but he'll end up staying awake until Eliot's returned anyway. ]

Weariness will not serve you well, if you are to return safely.

I'm fine. [ Automatic response, but a moment later he quantified the statement a bit. ] Don't need to sleep much. Can't sleep anyway.

[ Eliot may sleep more when he was together with his lover, but when alone, when on missions, he returned to his insomniac schedule. He didn't dare to sleep too long without someone to watch his back... and then there were the nightmares. ]

I'll be fine. Don't want you kickin' my ass for comin' back hurt.

[ Yeah, Loki's heard that one before. Hell, he's probably the one who invented it. ]

Eliot ...

[ But it's a fruitless effort, he can't cast sleeping spells through the phone and he can't ensure Eliot will actually listen to him. The most he can do is just sigh and sink further back against the window nook. ]

I'm sure I will find another reason. [ small scoff ] You are late, after all.

[ A knot in his relaxed when Eliot heard Loki scoff. He smiled again behind the phone. ]

Yeah, you'll do that.

[ Eliot's voice was soft with fondness for his lover. Even if Loki did kick his ass, Eliot would gladly let him. He owed him that much. ]

Guess I'll deserve that too. You plannin' on sleeping tonight?

[ It was something. He enjoyed hearing his wolf's happier voice anyway, so if nothing else, it was worth that.

The rain began pouring heavier, louder, likely audible through the phone. Loki just stares outside, as if he could see past the horizon and search for Eliot to ensure his safety. Then he scoffs, because that's a really ridiculous thought to have. ]

I haven't all week. I see little point in starting now.

[ Eliot flinched although Loki wasn't there to witness it. Or maybe he was, he never claimed to know the full extent of his godly lover's abilities. The answer, spoken so casually, made it hurt worse for Eliot to know what he was putting Loki through. ]

It ain't too late to get some shut eye.

[ Eliot didn't know manipulation like Loki did, so his words were sincere when he spoke them. ]

I'd rest easier knowin' you're takin' care of yourself.

[ Eliot could never match Loki's talent with words and manipulation. He supposed he could give him a point for trying, but it didn't change much of anything. He was still too far away, and it was still going to be some more time yet before they saw each other again.

Maybe he could let him win this round, but also because he didn't see any other way this conversation could go. ]

Perhaps I shall, then. [ not that he would, he had too many things on his mind to let himself sleep at all but he could at least let Eliot think he was. ] Return safe.

[ Knowing his lover, Eliot was less than enthusiastic to trust wholeheartedly into those words. ]

You are gonna?

[ He knew insisting achieved nothing, but he couldn't stop himself from trying anyway. ]

You know I will. I'm not expecting any problems with the job, just the delay.

Yes.

[ Which is basically "no," but Loki is pretty certain Eliot knows that. He could tell Eliot that just because he doesn't expect problems doesn't mean they can't happen, but then they'll just be on the phone for another hour and Loki just wants to get it over with. ]

Just return. That is all I ask.

[ After that, Loki pulls the phone from his ear, and presses the end call button. He sets the phone down, and goes back to watching the rain. He'll spend his time thinking about everything while waiting. ]

Loki- Damnit!

[ Eliot heard the soft click and dead silence that told him he had been disconnected. His brows drew together and he sighed.

With a heavy heart, Eliot put his phone away and tried to go to sleep. He will have to make it up to his lover when he got back. ]
