[ Does that answer it? Maybe he means, someone specifically special or maybe he means, someone generally special. Maybe he means both. Ask again! ]

(( That answer gets a soft smile. Dal's a bit of a romantic at heart so he likes hearing things like that. ))

What have you obtained in your short life that makes death at 30 seem such an unintimidating thing?

A healthy dose of reality.

I basically live on the street so... People like me don't have long life expectancies.

[ He doesn't offer because he's a good samaritan. He has no plans of running about, rounding up homeless people and giving them all shelter, although he could easily do some of that. Michel isn't that kind of kind.

Good, I'll send a car. It'll drive you an hour out of the city, there's my country home. There's only the groundskeeper now, and my housekeeper. She'll show you to your room. You're free to do what you want, just don't break anything. I'll be joining you next weekend.

[ He lists all these things like reading house rules to a new tenant or a long-term guest. Well, he considers the other man one such now.

Then, after a moment, it comes - surprisingly softly, ]

(( Oh, that all sounds nice, actually. He won't be completely alone and he won't have to clean the place. Not that he's a slob or anything, but he definitely wouldn't be leaving a huge mess for the housekeeper. He prides himself on being a low-maintenance kind of person. Unremarkable and unremembered. The best way to be. ))

I won't break anythin', I promise.

(( A more cynical person in Dal's shoes might wonder what this kindness will cost him. Dal doesn't. He doesn't even make any untoward leaps of logic when the man says he'll be there, too. It's his place, why wouldn't he come and go as he pleases? ))

I'll be okay. I can be scarce when you're there if you want.

[ He is making arrangements for a cab to come pick Dal up. One simple obstruction, however! ]

What's your name, young man? I need it for the cab driver. And I wonder if the two of us won't be better acquainted, if we're on first name basis.

(( The smile that comes to his face is subtle but it brightens his eyes. ))

I'm Dal. Thank you again for all this.

[ His own smile is wider, it's warm. It doesn't hold back. Much like a man who has just taken a boy off the streets and placed him in his manor house outside Paris. It fits with the rest, you can tell. ]
