I can't remember anything but your face

an amnesiac shipping meme

You have no idea who you are.

One day, you just woke up from the darkness, confused and alone. You barely remember your own name, much less why you're here...or where here is, even. Your own body is strange to you, and if you have some kind of power or ability, that must be frightening. Perhaps you're angry at everything so new and different, lost in this strange world you don't understand or know your own place in. Maybe you feel the need to hide away, lest you be crushed by everyone out there who is sure to hurt you.

You are so, so alone.

Only you're not. There is one person, one person who's found you and taken you in. They've shown you kindness, looking after you while you can barely look out for yourself. Out of the goodness of their heart, they've shown you things, taught you things. Most importantly, they're giving you a new sense of identity. And for that, you've begun to appreciate them. More than words can say, actually. You care for them so deeply that your heart hurts around them. Is that normal? What is this feeling? You can't imagine life without them, and leaving them- That's something you could never consider. Is this lov...

The word's on the tip of your tongue, but you can't figure it out, exactly. What you can figure out is that you want to give everything you can to the person who's done so much for them. You want to stay by their side and make them happy. You want to protect them at all costs.

So no one would blame you for getting confused when you see them with someone else or getting angry when you believe they're in danger. And certainly it's only natural for you to get frustrated when you want to tell them what you think of them, what they mean to you, and you can't figure out what to do. Perhaps following instincts will do?

One thing you know is that this bond and these emotions will never go away, not even when you learn who you are.

- This meme is for examining what happens when someone with no memories, potentially someone with powers or skills that could be dangerous at the very least, develops deep feelings for the person who's taken them in or is helping them realize their past. It can be played as awkward, adventurous, tragic, cracky, fluffy, truly romantic, or anything in between. You can play at the beginning, the part where emotions have strongly developed, or even when the amnesiac has regained their memories and must now deal with new feelings.
- Reply with your character and preferences. Mention if you'd like to play the amnesiac, the caretaker/help, or both.
- The role of caretaker does not have to always be beneficial. Maybe they caused this condition in the first place so the other character would be dependent, loving, and loyal towards them.
- Reply to others and play.

[ooc: yeah I think them knowing each other will work well! Let me know if this works for you or if you'd like something changed!]

For once, Peter would like the world to, you know, not go to shit.

He's on his afternoon patrol, as per usual on a Wednesday afternoon, mentally solving some of the chemistry equations he knows are waiting for him back at home. Things have been busy - of course, he's pursuing a biochemistry degree and beating up thugs in his spare time - but good. He's settled into a routine that works, he's been getting three meals a day, and he's only been late to his, maybe 25% of the time? Not great, but at least he's been going.

Regardless, Dr. Doom doesn't seem to give a flying fuck. Before Peter can fully comprehend what's happening, there are robots everywhere, destroying Midtown. Why is it always Midtown? Isn't there some other part of New York they could lay waste to, once in a while? Peter sets about smashing robots, saving citizens, but it's getting worse, forcing Peter to pull back, lose some ground. For every robot he destroys, it seems like three more spring up to take its place.

That's about when the Avengers drop out of the clear blue sky, ready to fuck shit up. It's either the Avengers, or the Fantastic Four, never both. He's busy wondering about that when the Hulk shows up.

Okay, so this is worse than Peter thought, if they're bringing in the big green guy. Even a smartass like him knows better than to get in that guy's way. Peter keeps his distance, does his job, and they start to get the upper hand. God bless. May's going to be pissed if he's late for dinner for the third time this week.

Things are finally calming, the last several robots getting smashed by Captain America and Iron Man, and Peter perches atop an apartment building, observing the last dregs of chaos. He should go, slip away before the Avengers can turn their attention to him - but then he sees the Hulk, and Widow. She's approaching him slowly, trying to calm him down, and it seems to be working. That grabs Peter's attention, fascinated by the process but something prickles the back of his neck, a shiver of warning just as the Hulk begins to shiver down into a normal-sized man.

"Look out!" Peter calls, already swinging off the building. Too late. Two robots leap out of the wreckage, half-destroyed, and attack Widow and Hulk. Widow skids to the ground and Peter catches the guy as he's nearly thrown into a building, swinging up and out of harm's way.

"...Doctor Banner?" Peter doesn't have much time to register his surprise, though - there's a robot chasing him and he can't stop to fight while carrying an unconscious victim. He takes twists and turns through the alleyways of Queens until he loses the bot, and by then, he's in the warehouse district. He considers going back, leaving Banner back with his team - which he should, they have medical care they can get him - but Bruce is bleeding and they're a little far from help, at this point.

Peter finds his warehouse, the one he skates in and has transformed into something of a little base for himself, and eases Bruce inside. He's got a shitty mattress he fished out of a dumpster - look, don't judge him, it's mostly for when he's too bloody to go home right away - and he lays Bruce out on it.

It's not looking good. There's blood oozing from a cut on his head, and Peter does the only thing he can do - webs it up. It's biodegradable and honestly, he doesn't have any bandages. Perks of being a superhuman. Peter rummages around and eventually finds a blanket to cover Bruce's modesty, before he pulls off his mask and sits down next to the doctor. It doesn't look like there are any other injuries - which good, but, you know, he's still friggen' unconscious.

[This absolutely works for me! Also that last line actually got me to snort-laugh out loud. Just this look on Peter's face like fuuuuuuuck XD]

It takes a while for Doctor Banner to come around, and when he does, it's slow. There's a quiet sound from the man first, a sound like a groan released on a sigh, before his eyes start to open. They don't really focus, at first, just staring up with a foggy expression before it turns into one of a grimace.

For Bruce? All he knows is he's somewhat cold, his head hurts terribly, and he has no idea where he is. There's not even been time to realize he has no idea who he is, either, not when his mind is having difficulty getting past the first few things. None of it's helped by trying to sit up and finding out the whole room is spinning, leaving him to let his eyes snap shut against the feeling and feeling his stomach trying to rebel as his senses tell him he's spinning despite the feeling of the surface he's lying on.

It hasn't even occurred to him he's not alone, either.

[it's that '@god why me' face xD ]

"Bruce?" Peter leans over Bruce a little, paying very careful attention to his spidey sense. Banner was the Hulk. But Peter didn't sense any danger - so, at least, it seemed unlikely he was going to explode into a giant green monster anytime soon. "Hey, hey, careful."

"Bruce, can you hear me?" He's only just stirring, but Peter's still worried. That was a nasty hit he took, and Peter doesn't even know what Bruce is supposed to be like when he comes down from fighting. He wouldn't imagine it to be a very pleasant sensation.

[To be fair, I don't blame him for that face at this point.]

He startles when Peter spoke up, his eyes flashing open despite the pain in his head. There is a long moment of just staring at the young man looking back at him with an expression of concern, but not only does he have no idea who this is, he doesn't know why the young man keeps calling him that. The name doesn't have that sensation of connection to it that it should have.

"...I can hear you." His voice is rough, maybe unsurprising, but he isn't putting two and two together. Not when the first two doesn't exist in his mind at all right now. "Who are you?" Peter gets a look up and down and increased confusion on Bruce's face. And what is with that outfit?

Peter visibly relaxes at the information, smiling a little even though Bruce is still very obviously hurt. He's awake, though, and coherent, which is honestly more than Peter was expecting. Peter starts pulling off his gloves with his teeth, intent to start thoroughly checking Bruce over, when the question stops him cold, frozen with his glove halfway off, clamped between his teeth.

Peter pulls it off hastily, frowning down at Bruce and the confusion evident in his expression. "...I'm Peter, remember? Peter Parker?" You've got to be kidding. As if this situation couldn't get worse - no. No, maybe this is a normal response, for Bruce to be confused when he first comes to after...transformation. Peter honestly doesn't know - what's the head injury and what's just Bruce?

There is the smallest shake of his head, suggesting no, not remembering anyone by that name. A hand slowly sneaks up to his head, surprised to find it shaking ever so slightly as he holds it up. That has everything to do with the change back but to Bruce, he has no idea. Eventually he lets it connect to the edge of his face, sneaking up towards the head wound where it's pounding the most.

"Where am I?" He swallows audibly, working saliva down in a very dry mouth and throat. Another slightly glance around, brows furrowing, before adding, "this... isn't a hospital." Feeling like this, obviously hurt, and waking up somewhere unknown should have meant a hospital but this... definitely not.

"You're - " Peter hesitates, glancing around and knowing it doesn't exactly paint the best picture. He was thinking on the fly, okay, and he isn't quite sure what to do now. Bruce should have known his secret identity, and Peter was expecting to have that conversation. It's both a blessing and a worry that they aren't.

" - careful, now." Peter takes Bruce's hand and gently guides it away from probing at the webbed up head injury. He'll only stick his fingers to his own head. "You're safe. I brought you back to my..."

What do you call this place? Spidercave sounds way better in his head. " - we're in the warehouse district. It's alright. I...didn't think you'd want a hospital."

Normally, Bruce tends to flinch away from contact if he isn't expecting it, but it doesn't come with this. He frowns at the young man, not sure exactly what to make of this. That last bit doesn't make any sense to him at all. Why wouldn't he want a hospital if he's injured?

"I'm hurt," spoken flat out because without even needing to look his whole body feels it from head to toe, "and you don't think I'd want a hospital?" It even hurts to talk, and he desperately wants a drink of water, but this is getting more and more strange by the moment. "Why did you take me anywhere?"

...Had he been kidnapped? By a kid?

[Peter makes so many great WTF faces xD ]

"It's just your head." Peter hesitates a second, hand still holding Bruce's. His thumb moves to Bruce's wrist, checking his pulse. It sounds steady in Peter's ears but it doesn't hurt to double check. "Right? Are you hurt anywhere else?"

"Bruce, how much do much do you remember?" There's no way the Hulk would want to go to a hospital. Right? Had Peter overestimated? "What's the last thing you can recall?"

"We were being chased, I had to get you out of there." Peter defends, twitching a little with Bruce frowning at him like that.

[I feel you need to see this]

"...the whole of me hurts right now." It is admitting something he never admits to anyone, just how much of him hurt to the core of his bones after the change, but all of those normal defensive protections are gone right now. "What do you mean, we were being chased? I-"

But he stops dead, his eyes dropping from Peter's and looking down vaguely at nothing. Peter asking him that question makes him realize the truth and that realization slowly creeps into his face. His voice is only a whisper. "...nothing. I don't... remember anything." Nothing is coming up to his mind. Nothing at all. It's like looking at a completely empty, black plain as far as the eye can see.

[LMAO if we are talking Bruce memes have I got the jackpot for you.]

Peter frowns, because it certainly shouldn't be that bad, should it? He leans up, looking Bruce over speculatively. He doesn't hear anything grinding inside of the man - as broken bones would - and he doesn't hear anything that sounds like a rupture. Still, doesn't hurt to check and if Bruce is complaining about pain... "Can I check you over, Bruce? Is that okay?" He doesn't want to do anything to startle him.

The admission that he doesn't remember anything hardens Peter's expression into place. Okay. Amnesia - perhaps temporary? Brought on by his change into the Hulk? Or was it the head injury? Jesus, Peter didn't know. He's tempted to take Bruce back to his team but - well, he doesn't know if he should move him, and also, he isn't entirely keen on giving up his secret identity.

Ultimately, it's going to be whatever Bruce needs. Still, Peter isn't sure he should move him. "We were being chased by a robot. I know it - sounds kind of nuts, but they were attacking downtown. One of them bashed you in the head, and I got you out of there."

[*giggling* I love those TFLN type memes so much.]

"Are you a doctor?" Peter seems awfully young for a doctor, something inside tells him, but then again he can't even pinpoint why. (That baby face of Peter's doesn't help him one bit, though.) "Why would we be being chased by a robot? Why were they attacking downtown-- downtown where?! What's going on?!"

Now there is the other side of the problem. The reality of it is setting in, a certain deep-down panic on the idea that he's hurt, somewhere completely unknown with an unknown young man, and he can't remember a damn thing. What he can't realize is in the midst of all of this, he isn't changing. Despite his pain and fear, he's remaining very much himself.

"No, I'm - my Aunt is a nurse, I picked up a few things." Peter answers, mostly honestly. Well, it was true. Though his knowledge of first aide stemmed more from his own experiences getting gravely injured, but still. "Woah, woah, woah. Calm down, okay? Relax. I know it''s difficult, when you can't remember, but I'm here to help you."

"Downtown New York." Now it's Peter's turn to stare, confused. He didn't even remember he was in New York City? "Because their creator is a nutcase who likes to wreak havoc. It's more common than you'd think."

Peter doesn't get a single tingle of danger, so despite Bruce's panic, there doesn't seem to be any risk to either of them. Although, the Hulk, running around not knowing he's the Hulk could get pretty dicey pretty quickly.

Bruce stares at Peter for several long seconds, then lets out a hard breath through his lips before he tries to sit up. No, he's getting up this time, regardless of the spinning of the room around him. At least sitting up is less of a feeling of weakness than laying there. "Someone's... attacking New York with robots?"

That sounds about as crazy as it gets. Peter gets yet another look up and down and Bruce's brows come together. Why does red and blue stick out in his mind? It's like the sign at the beginning of a path that doesn't lead anywhere at all. No connection to a memory where there should have been.

"...why are you wearing pajamas?"

Peter holds his arms out, prepared to offer Bruce assistance if sitting up turns out to be a bad idea. Luckily, he doesn't collapse - though he definitely looks like he's on the verge of it. Christ. Since when did this become Peter's life? "They're not very good robots. He calls himself Dr. Doom."

"It's uh - I was - " He doesn't have a good excuse. Peter smiles sheepishly and shrugs. "Why are you naked? Life is full of mysterious things."

"Guess you don't get a choice when the killer robots attack," Peter mutters, and though it's a thin excuse, it does make more sense than saying we're both superheroes.

NAKED? Bruce tugs up the edge of the blanket, double checking, before he ends up blushing hard. Not that crimson stain across his cheeks but the immediate drop of the blanket, the aversion of the eyes, the tight expression. He has no idea why! A man named Doctor Doom - what a ridiculous name - unleashed robots on New York and he's somehow saved by a young man in his pajamas when he's naked. Why is this his life right now?

"None of this is helping your 'didn't take me to a hospital' choice, you realize," comes the somewhat dry comment. It's taking all of his strength to even remain upright. "...when did you find me hurt, anyway?" It doesn't look like Peter could have hauled him very far. "Are they still out there?" Is this just the closest safe place Peter could find?

When Bruce blushes, Peter has to stifle a snicker. It's kind of funny, except that Peter knows none of this is funny. But it's kind of funny. He's got a confused, potentially dangerous Bruce Banner on his hands and little to no cover story. Think fast, Parker! It doesn't help that Peter is probably the worst liar in the history of the universe. The only reason he even had a secret identity was because no one ever straight up just asked him if he was Spiderman.

"You don't like hospitals." Peter lies, hoping Bruce doesn't notice the brief hesitation in his phrasing. Think fast, think fast. Kernel of truth in everything so it doesn't sound too wild (well, it already did, but the robots weren't a lie, so). "And they were blocking the way anyway. The robots, I mean."

"I kind of saw it happen. I tried to warn you but I was too far away." Okay, not technically a lie. Yeah, he does kind of look like a string bean, in all fairness. "I think I lost the ones chasing us. I know the area well I - grew up here." Still not outright lying. Look at him go!

[But it's kind of funny.]

That whole asking of the Spiderman thing would come. Eventually. Tony Stark rarely played around when it came to this sort of thing.

Despite all that half-truthing hanging around in there, Bruce still gives him a bit of a look that suggests he isn't fully buying any of this. Who would, given the situation? But for the moment, he doesn't have too much choice. He's naked, hurt, without any idea of what happened or who he is, but this kid seems to know.

Then fine. Let's start there. Why doesn't he like hospitals? That barely makes sense. " know who I am, though." There's almost a command in that statement of starting explaining who I am, please? Even without his memory, Bruce isn't much of a commander.

[Peter has the worst timing with his humor and the worst part is, he's not even sorry.]

Yeah, watch Peter literally turn tail and jump out of the whatever-the-fuck floor of Stark Tower. He'll do it. When he panics, he panics hard.

"Yes," Peter barely refrains from breathing a sigh of relief. That, he can answer. Up until fifteen minutes ago, he didn't even know Bruce was the Hulk which, in retrospect, makes a lot of things line up in a better picture of the truth about why Bruce's little biochem operation at Stark Industries was so heavily guarded. "You're Dr. Bruce Banner. Not a medical doctor - I mean, you are, kind of but not - uh, not a hospital doctor."

"You work on vaccines, mostly, and radiation research. Different types of treatments to cure a variety of ailments." Peter runs his hand back through his wild hair, offering a half-shrug. "I'm you lab assistant." Maybe he should have started with that, when Bruce asked who he was.

[omfg Peter just this on Stark and there's Bruce like WTF DID YOU DO TONY?]

Well that whole 'radiation research' became a whole lot clearer in the light of him being the Hulk, didn't it? Funny how that worked. Still, Bruce listened to all of this but no light of recognition of any kind came to his eyes. In the end, he shook his head, letting out a breath when that very minor hope of explanation sparking something failed to do so. "...I know none of that."

Another breath, one that made him have to close his eyes against the room spinning again. "A doctor who doesn't like hospitals. Right now, I need... something." His body hurt, his head hurt even more. This time, Peter would have to be very quick to avoid Bruce's hand from going up to his head as he added, "I think I have a concussion." Which was far more than true if the robot had managed to crack him in just the right spot. Really Peter had no idea how bad the damage was beneath his webbing.

[He would, too. Finally, wearing the webshooters all the time PAYS OFF.]

It was ironic, but then, wasn't Peter? Biochemistry was what made him Spiderman, after all. Seems like a trend was forming, didnt it? It worries Peter that nothing he's saying seems to be clicking with Bruce. He watches the anticipation flicker off Bruce's face and frowns, brow furrowing.

"Yeah, well. You don't like places with lots of people." Blessedly, he is fast enough to stop Bruce - perks of being a superhuman. He sets Bruce's hand back down at his side with a wry smile. "Let me check your pupils and we can find out?"
aggravated: (look - whoa!)

"Why is that?" If he was a doctor, why wouldn't he want to be around people? Wasn't the point to help them if he was making things like vaccines? It felt all that much more confusing but really, it was only adding to the building worry.

What was almost even more of a surprise was at the speed Peter caught his wrist. Bruce blinked slowly, looking at the hand on his wrist, because he hadn't even seen Peter move. It left him only giving a single nod in return to the question, not protesting Peter checking because he was trying to process those last few moments. A lab assistant, capable of outrunning a robot and taking him with him in the process, wearing somewhat gaudy pajamas, and incredibly quick.

"It...makes you nervous, I guess," Peter hedged, trying to dodge the question. He didn't need to wig Bruce out any more than he already was. If anything, he needed to calm him down.

Peter gently released his wrist, watching Bruce's reaction carefully. He seems confused, but not panicking, not yet at least. Peter leaned in slowly, not wanting to startle him by any means. He rested a hand on Bruce's shoulder, leaning left and right to watch his pupils dilate.

Bruce let Peter do his check, but it was obvious that he was very uncertain, nervous, and possibly on the verge of panic. He knew he was hurt and this young man was telling him increasingly stranger things that made very little sense, but he couldn't even stand up right now. What if Peter was right and there was something about hospitals? Still... his brows came together and he brought up a hand to rub over his face, taking a breath to steady himself.

"...what do you plan to do with me, then?" Because they were in a sketchy place, though it looked like someone had been here before, and while he couldn't run, it didn't seem to matter as much if he didn't even know where he was or who he was to do something about it!

Definitely a bit of a concussion, Peter concludes, leaning back as Bruce rubbed a hand over his face. Poor guy. He wished he could offer him some ice or something but - you know, super secret spider hideout and all. The standing thing wouldn't really be an issue - Peter could carry him, even if it would take a bit of convincing. Okay, a lot of convincing. What?

"I...hadn't really gotten that far," Peter admits, rubbing his hand over the back of his neck. "I mean, I could take you to the hospital or I could take you home. Your - uh, your roommates - " Ha. " - they can probably help you better than I can."

Probably be smart to stop off at his house first, get them both some clothes before going all the way to the tower. "I think the robots are gone, at least."
