So, technically vigilantism is illegal. And most of them, running around with masks and extracting their own kind of justice, are vigilantes. But the one thing that keeps Matt from being as guilty as he should be is that he knows they're the good guys. Right? They have codes they live be, things they won't do.

Usually that's enough for Matt. Until people start questioning it, people like Peter, who are usually of Matt's thinking.

He purses his lips. "Accidents happen. It's not - You can't blame yourself."

'Technically' - it is illegal, no matter how they twist it, or how many police officers wave at them. More than that, they walk a fine line, and sometimes it simply gets blurry. Peter's well-acquainted with this feeling of doubt.

"That's where you're wrong, chief." Peter snorted, shaking his head and crossing his arms. Conviction came in waves, especially with Peter; and whatever he did, he never thought it to be enough. "There's no one else to blame."

As a lawyer, a technicality almost always sounds better than a certainty when it comes to his own illegal activities. But they are good. There's the good guys.

"We've all done things we're not proud of. It's a hazard of the job, but you're not ... You did what you thought you had to."

"You never have to." It's times like these that remind Peter almost painfully of his Uncle. There had never been a gray area for Uncle Ben, and by extension, Peter - for a vigilante he was surprisingly soft in so many ways. Maybe it was naïve, but what could he do? "But I did it anyway, Matt."

Peter sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. There wasn't any taking it back. What's done was done. He's just lucky he hadn't killed the guy.
