body horror meme

WARNING -- POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (violence, pain, parasites, zombies, etc)

body horror meme

Something's gone wrong. Maybe it was a little parasite, wiggling under your skin. Maybe something bit you that one night in the woods. Maybe someone decided they didn't like you and placed a curse on you, or maybe the local psychotic AI decided she liked you and filled you full of nanites. In any case, you're changing, body and soul. There's no way to stop it. No way to reverse it. And above all, it's the most painful thing you've ever experienced...

- Tag the meme, leaving your character name, fandom, and any preferences in the subject line
- Other character tags you
- You tag back, and use the random number generator to select from the following options. Or don't, and do whatever strikes your fancy. If you roll something your character already is, either roll again, go for human, or pick something that otherwise suits your fancy.
- Other character reacts, or is free to also roll on the table
- Play out the results.
- Have fun, but respect the preferences of others.

1. Water-dwelling. You're growing gills, or your skin is turning translucent, or you're sprouting fins, or maybe you're outright turning into some form of sea life. It doesn't matter what you're turning into – what does matter is that you're slowly losing the ability to breathe air, and there's no water in sight...

2. Animal. Something bit you, and you're turning into an animal. Your bones lengthen or perhaps shrink, break, twist, and reform, your teeth lengthen or shorten, and above all, you feel your instincts being overridden. Your senses sharpen; you notice smells you never did before, your vision becomes more sensitive to movement. If you're a predator? Man, these people look mighty tasty. Prey? OHGOD, EVERYTHING IS TERRIFYING. Lizard? Enjoy your new inability to regulate body temperature. Bird? Have fun with the whole beak and hollowing bones. And don't even get us started on insects and arachnids...

3. Parasitic Something's inside you, and it's changing you from within, chewing up your insides and altering your thoughts. You're not sure how much longer you're going to be you, and when the parasite's going to take over completely...

4. Demonic You've been meddling with dark powers beyond the ken of mortal man, and it seems you've accidentally sold your soul. Will you be the traditional kind of demon, horns and hooves, or something far more terrifying and ineffable?

5. Undead: No doubt about it, you're dying, but as you are, something's been altered in you. Maybe you're becoming a vampire – and not the fun kind, either, we're talking ugly, ravenous, and mad. Maybe you're a zombie, or a ghoul, and human flesh looks mighty tasty. Or maybe you're just turning into a ghost bent on vengeance. In any case, death is never fun.

6. Cybernetic Get captured by the Borg? Strapped to an operating table? Injected with nanites? Whatever happened to you, you're slowly turning into something half man, half machine, your squishy bits being replaced by mechanical components.

7. Lovecraftian You've heard their song, the terrors from beyond the stars, and even now they sing in your blood as your flesh transmutes into something ineffable and unknowable. You revel in the pain you feel even as you seek to spread it, to herald the end of all things... or maybe worse, you're aware of the transition as your mind becomes not your own.

8. Fusion/Hivemind You begin to fuse with the first person who tagged you – physically, mentally, or both. Soon, you can't tell who is who, which one of you is the real you, as your thoughts become one. Join in the fleshsong, mortal...

9. Inanimate Your body slowly petrifies and hardens, turning to stone, wood, glass, or something stranger still; or perhaps you liquefy, turning to some kind of liquid, or maybe you dissolve into the air itself.

10. Wildcard / pick your own Pick whatever you like, combine a few options, or make up your own.

[ ooc: Not all that interested in 5 - undead, or 7 - Lovecraftian. ]
spideyguy: (Can't Look!)

Rolled an 8?

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-12 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's been growing for a month or two now, but Peter is definitely sure at this point. Someone is in his head, someone is sharing his thoughts. It's hard not to think about being Spiderman, when he's being Spiderman, and once the bond forms into something more concrete around month three, Peter sends out a tentative thought, letting himself peek over the barriers he'd tried to build.]

Hello? Is someone there?
ingoodcompany: ([Down] Put a load on me)

Cool. Let me know if this doesn't work for you.

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-12 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Peter's message earns a sudden burst of shock, with a hint of panic that's fiercely beaten down and buried in the following rush of emotions. There might be a flash of memory or two of the time when Stiles had been harboring the Nogitsune in his own mind - but those had had a more nightmare-ish quality - with dark rooms, desperation, and a bandaged figure. Those hadn't been good times. ]

Do you often talk to voices in your head?

[ It wasn't as if Stiles hadn't been noticing the strangeness of the going-ons in his own brain; he'd possibly been hyper-aware of the possibility, but most of the thoughts he'd heard wouldn't be too out of place in his own life: The ones without that sense of secrecy anyway.

And quietly, very quietly: ]

Oh my god, not again.

I don't often have them, so I guess you can take some pride in being the first.

[Peter tries to process each of the emotions the other person is sending him, distinguish them from his own. It's definitely harder than it should be. And what was that? Bandages, fear, the wild, desperate nature of a human in life or death danger - ]

Again? This happens to you often?

[Peter had been through a lot of things, but this certainly set the bar higher than before. And who was this dude, in his head? He had a feeling it was a guy, though it was hard to tell just from thoughts.]

My name is Peter.

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-12 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say it's exactly a cause for celebration. Mostly it means things are going to go wrong. Like dramatically, drastically, disastrously wrong. Along with other words that start with a 'D'.

[ It's a lot to offload onto someone at once - but you can't exactly stop a train of thought once it gets started. That's why it's a train. Though if he's going off the impressions he's been getting, they're probably better at confusing each other than actually picking up coherent stories.

But he's curious - why now? ]

And no, not exactly. It's seems similar to something else that's happened before, but this feels different.

It's less pushy, if you know what I mean.
[ Then again, bodiless spirits really don't have anywhere else to go, do they? Nor are they human in any sense of the word. ]

Your last name isn't Hale right? Nor are you related to any, because seriously, I know a guy who has that name, and he is the worst.

[ Because talk about coincidences. Not that he thinks Peter has anything to do with the one he knows of, given the impression he's been able to read off him: The whole location feels different, not at all like Beacon Hills, and whoever this is, they're younger, definitely. ]

You can call me Stiles.
spideyguy: (Talking)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-12 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that always the way? [There's the equivalent of a mental sigh, and Peter, who's lying on his bed, rolls over.]

I didn't do this intentionally, if that's what you mean. I think you can tell I'm equally as confused. [It was a weird sensation, but Peter actually tried to let the guy see his thoughts, his emotions. A whole lot of confusion and too much math, trying to sort out probabilities. In his life, though, the improbable was all too often the real deal.]

No. Don't know anyone with that last name, either.

Stiles. [He's wondering if he could be going crazy, could have made this guy up.] Did anything...weird happen to you?
ingoodcompany: ([Drive] White lines on the highway)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-12 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Am impression of dark amusement. ]

So much for optimism. [ Because yeah, these kinds of things go from bad to worse.

And that has him sighing, because whatever this is has already happened. Intent only helps a little bit. ]

I believe you. [ It's hard not to, when you can get the sense of the other person.

And wow, yeah. That's an entirely different set of problems compared to the supernatural shitshow that has been the last year and a half of his life. The sensation of swinging from different buildings is a bit of a rush, but it's a short one. ]

But I would have liked some explanation for this more. I don't like it when things happen out of nowhere.
[ Not anymore. ] Because if it's something like a curse, or a spell, hell, even a weird glitch could be enough to find a way to fix this.

Good. Tall, dark, middle-aged men who answer to the name Peter Hale are bad news.

[ Because werewolves. If you see him, don't run. Keep an eye, (both eyes, if you can,) on him and get the hell out of dodge. ]

Weird is the nice way of putting it, because it's a long story. Way too many things happened in a really short period of time.

[ The key points though consist of this: Werewolves exist. Other things that go bump in the night exist. It's not pretty, and the kind of life they lead rack up a body count; for those involved, and people on the sidelines.

More than half the time, he's feels like he's flying blind, even with all the research he does. And the people who do know more? Aren't very good at sharing the information around. It's stressful, and worrying, and it's gotten him into more trouble than he really has a handle on. ]
spideyguy: (Hmph)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-12 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Me either. You think it's a curse? [At this point, Peter really didn't find that terribly surprising. When people like Thor existed? Dude. But Peter was reasonably sure that, curse or not, Stiles sounded like he thought it could be a legitimate option.]

I'm nowhere near middle-aged, swear. [Images of a high school, with the name blurred out. A flash of a blonde girl and a science beaker Peter didn't mean to show, but he shuts the memory down before it goes any further.]

Well something...weird happened to me too. Maybe the weirdness is connected and that...connected us?
ingoodcompany: ([Sign] Tricks and trade)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-12 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Since neither of us did anything to cause this? [ That they know of. ] Yeah. It's not exactly benefiting anyone, and I seriously don't know you well enough for me to really trust this. [ They both know too many things they wouldn't want the other teen to find out about.

Though the image of what clearly is a high school has him thinking. ]

Maybe a age is a factor? [ Which again, leaves the question of why them?

As for the rest of the images, he doesn't comment on them, even if wants to. Because chemistry. That class was the worst.

Mr. Harris, really. The subject was good in the way all required courses are, and it came in handy, but it just isn't something that particularly interested him. ]

It's that, or near death experiences.

That's always something people like to point to as life changing.

[ Not exactly the kind of topic he wants to talk about. But the tree-beacon is off limits as a subject of discussion - and it's the simplest way to describe what they'd done when it had woken up. ]
spideyguy: (SM Bloody)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-12 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't trust you, but you haven't done anything for me to distrust, so.

[Peter almost mentally snorts, blood and pain rising to mind, but he keeps the images of him and his costume out of it.] I've had plenty of those. I'll go out on a limb and say that you do too.

[That wasn't really what he meant, but he also didn't want to give away the fact that he was kind of a mutant?]
ingoodcompany: ([...] Not my best idea)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-13 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ Point. That doesn't get them very far, but if they keep editing out the most revealing parts - it should work well enough.

It's not like he's not used to dancing around a subject should it come up. ]

I can work with that.

[ There's been enough that he's tired of them. And most of the time, he only gets caught up in the fringes of it. ]

Too many. I don't even have to go looking for them.

So, it's possible, then. That's that what triggered this, mind-linking, whatever you want to call it.

[ Mutants are definitely not the strangest thing. ]
spideyguy: (Science)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-13 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, I'll bite. But for what purpose? [And try as he might, a magical explanation wouldn't exactly satisfy him.]

Are we supposed to help each other? There has to be a reason.

Definitely a mind-link. Some kind of extrapolation of underlying brain wavelengths, subconscious from natural synapsis tendencies. [Yeah he's got his nerd on.]
ingoodcompany: ([Drive] White lines on the highway)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-13 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Nefarious ones, of course. [ He thinks that's a given: Weird stuff has never happened for the better. ]

But helping each other out would be better, to break the connection, at least. Even if we can't find out anything about whatever is responsible during that time. [ Because that can still happen after the fact. ]

And there are other ways we could contact each other. If we have to.

[ Peter may have lost him a bit there. Neurology isn't really his area of interest. And while he could understand it if he thought about it, and Googled a bit, he isn't really feeling up to it. ]

I'm going to stick to mind-link.

Are you suggesting that this might show up on a brain scan? Like a PET?
spideyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-13 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But if you don't want anything from me and I don't want anything from you, is there a third party spying in on us here? [They'd be more likely to slip on things if they thought they could trust the other person. And maybe they could, but maybe someone else was intercepting? He just couldn't find a motive.]

Yeah, I mean I'm on Facebook. [Peter can feel a little of the confusion and mentally shrugs.] Basically, all humans are a little bit psychic. Sixth sense. We just don't normally use it. I don't really know if it would show up, but since these are unusual brain waves, I'm thinking yes, it might.
ingoodcompany: ([Finality] Bottom line)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-13 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Then they're after something one of us knows. I can't think of anything that we both would have access to that isn't also open to the public in some way. [ And for him, a lot of his 'secrets' aren't his to share. Not that it makes him regret the snooping he's done in his life, on top of the supernatural happenings. ]

If we keep it to things either of us would be fine with talking about on that site... it couldn't give away anything someone wouldn't have found with enough digging. [ Names, locations, recent events. He doesn't doubt that what's been going on in Beacon Hills hasn't made the local news.

And if it's something that could show up on a scan - it's a possibility they could pursue if nothing else comes up. Sneaking in a medical procedure isn't exactly legal, after all. ]

That's actually something we can look into, for sure.
spideyguy: (Talking)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peter's got a flash of guilt through his mind, the Oscorp Tower, but he tries to stop thinking about it, tuck it away in the back of his mind.] I might. Wrong place, wrong time.

[But the truth behind the reports? Anybody could see that something shady was going on in Beacon Hills, if they looked hard enough, but would they be able to arrive at the singular conclusion of supernatural entities?]

Hospitals in New York aren't cheap. [He's not worried about giving up his location; hell, even if he had given Stiles his last name, try finding one Peter Parker in a city of upwards of 8 million.]
ingoodcompany: ([Sign] Tricks and trade)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-13 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Sensitive topic. He gets that. He'll remember the feeling, but doesn't dig for now. ]

Sometimes, it's the only reason things happen.

[ It has investigators "baffled", since they have no way of linking everything together, the cases not closed as an animal attack. ]

That applies pretty much everywhere... if you go through proper channels.

It's why it's choice, but I'm not exactly leaping to it.
spideyguy: (Hmph)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-13 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll do some research, see what I can do. [He'll look into mutant research, see if he can draw any connections to the genetic changes. But Stiles seems like a, relatively-speaking, normal human.]

Yeah I...might be able to swing one.
ingoodcompany: ([...] Not my best idea)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-13 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll see what I can find too. [ Without causing a panic and having people following him around. Just in case. Because the fox spirit's gone, but it hadn't exactly left everything the way it was before the possession. ]

Worry about it when it comes up?

spideyguy: (Science)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-14 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
I guess we'll be able to compare research easily. [Have the mental equivalent of an ironic snort. Who knew you could infuse so much sarcasm in a thought?]

I've got a few tricks up my sleeve.
ingoodcompany: ([Aside] Get it together)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-14 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Instantly, sure. [ It's overly enthusiastic, bordering on fake.

He accompanies that with a whole slew of disorganized chaos. Papers everywhere, scattered images taped to walls, connected by pins and lines of question marks.

How easy is that to understand? ]

spideyguy: (Can't Look!)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh wow. Well that's great. He wonders if he should ask Stiles to keep that on his side. But that's kind of difficult, he gets it, when they're sort of Vulcan mind-melding.]

Check back in a week?
ingoodcompany: ([Down] Put a load on me)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-14 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's a pause, because he knows.

It's easy to get carried away on the first rushes of momentum, something that comes too easily to him. Having the week before actually trading notes for real would be good.

He'll have organized most of it by then. It'll be cohesive, at least. ]

Sounds good.
spideyguy: (Science)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2015-11-15 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Peter ditches out on homework for the rest of the week (like it will make a difference to his grade, really) and spends all of his time not swinging around as a masked vigilante researching. Psychics and telepathy and everything in between. He does end up sneaking into that hospital, because what good are his powers when he can't use them to solve a mystery every once in a while?]
ingoodcompany: ([Finality] Bottom line)

[personal profile] ingoodcompany 2015-11-15 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Stiles can't exactly do the same, there are some courses that he can't ignore for a week, not without falling behind, so he keeps up with those, and cuts back on sleep. He can coast by on two to four hours a night.

Besides going through the people he knows for information, (he hates how Deaton manages to pull of the cryptic helpfulness) and getting the reassurance that no, this isn't like any form of possession that's been heard of, and that had been a relief.

He'd also spent some time trawling through facebook to narrow down a Peter Parker. (New York, and young just cuts down the names to 20 pages or so - meaning that he sends a couple he thinks are likely suspects a message to see what happens.)

And yeah, getting Melissa to help out with the brain scan part of things, though he also has the stuff from his previous visit to the hospital. Good times, that.

He might get the occasional flash of thought or feeling of what the other teen is up to, but now that they're both aware of it, they're also trying harder to keep themselves to themselves.

But yes, the week had been busy. And he'd learned more about what this isn't, than what it could be. ]
