I COULDN'T DECIDE so Insomnia/Sickness

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-09 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was obviously a bad combination, although EOS didn't let it run very long. For three nights straight, John couldn't sleep. He never quite figured out why either, but his mind just would not shut off. It was by the end of the second day that it was taking its toll, his mind wandering and EOS needing to complete the objective. His brothers, of course, commented but he, being so high up in space, easily brushed it off with a wave of his hand.

Yes, he hung up on them. He was tired and feeling sick to his stomach and not even the stars could calm him to sleep. Of course, hanging up on his brothers meant someone was going to check in on him. Which is how ended up in the back seat of Thunderbird 3, with Virgil and Scott, of all people.

"So exactly why are you guys piloting and not Alan?" Was that a scratch in his throat? The eyeroll he made was rather epic in how annoyed he was now with that. Immune system already somewhat compromised by the lack of being around other people for a good majority of his time, now it was worse due to his insomnia. Despite his annoyance, he was still mostly calm and quiet as he spoke. Honestly, he was just more annoyed at himself than anything else.

Virgil could probably count on one hand how often he had been into space on Thunderbird 3. He preferred staying a whole lot closer to terra firma, BUT there was always the rare exception.

It was pretty clear John wasn't well, and when he hung up on them? Yeah. That was it.

"The kid had overdue homework to do," Virgil explained. Alan had certainly wanted to, but they put their foot down. "And me? Came for the ride," he added, with a shrug, although that wasn't exactly the reason.

John was coming home and Virgil was here to make certain of that.

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-09 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It was Scott that was alarmed first after John hung up on them. That was something he never really did. The first responder wasted no time jumping into the seat that would take him to Thunderbird 3. Call him impulsive and leaping before looking sure - but it was better to jump on a hunch than not and then pay the consequences that could've been avoided.

Virgil was right behind. Alan of course wanted to come since it was him that normally piloted the rocket, but Scott said that he had to get his school work done first. Finger point and all. Jeez, he almost sounded like their father at that point - he didn't miss the twinge that caused.

Think about that later. He had to take care of his own first. There was no time for grief in a business like International Rescue.

His suspicions were confirmed the moment they met up with John. He was clearly unwell, and with lack of sleep it was affecting his ability to function properly. It was time to bring him home to recover. No if, ands or buts. It was Scott that was piloting Thunderbird 3, and though he didn't typically pilot it often, he was trained well. The ride was going smoothly and it wouldn't be long until they were back on the island.

Scott turned his head to smirk a little at Virgil, trying to keep the mood light. The eldest was definitely appreciative of Virgil's presence, to help him bring John home.

"Someone had to drive." He joked lightly with a shrug, quirking a brow. He was old hat at covering up any worry so that his brothers didn't have to be concerned about him. He had to be strong for all of them. "Besides, it's a good thing we did come up by the sounds of it. A little gravity and fresh air will be good for you."
ew_gravity: (I'd like to make myself believe)

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-09 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
He hefted a sigh, arms crossing as they were beginning their descent. He knew he didn't look great, pale with dark rings under his eyes. John didn't quite speak up right away, rubbing the heel of his hand against his eye for a moment.

His voice was still soft as he spoke. "We have the gravity ring for a reason, Scott. It's not air and gravity I need."

His tired brain worked out just what Virgil was there for now, and he wasn't happy for being slow on the uptake, but he also chose not to comment. What was the point? Virgil was there to make sure John got into the rocket and no arguments erupted. He was good at that and honestly, the redhead was just too tired. "Being home isn't going to magically make me go to sleep."

John already knew why he couldn't sleep. His mind just wasn't turning off and therein lied the problem. Being home wouldn't change that. He recrossed his arms as they entered Earth's atmosphere. It was always shakier than the elevator.
heavy_lifting: (What was that?)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-09 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Artificial gravity and recycled air were hardly a replacement for the real thing, but it didn't sound like John was in the mood to be reminded of that right now, so Virgil didn't even try to argue with him over it. And, yeah, John's other argument was fair enough, but there was a big difference to him being up in Thunderbird 5 with just EOS to watch over him and being down on Earth where he had a whole family to try to help him.

"Maybe not," Virgil conceded, "But if you tell us what would help you sleep and we can try to provide it."

He looked over his shoulder, to catch John's gaze. "Let us help you, John."
thunderbird1: (Here's what we're gonna do)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-09 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Scott opened his mouth to retort something...then decided that it was probably not a good idea. He repressed a sigh, and concentrated on the descent through the atmosphere. To anyone, he appeared relaxed...but to a brother, they would see the tense set of his shoulders.

Virgil spoke up, which Scott was grateful for. The natural peace keeper of the group, Virg always seemed to know what to say in a situation. Scott was a little more direct and in your face at times - but his heart was in the right place. There was no doubt in anyone in his family that he loved them.

"Virgil's right." He said, softening his voice. "I respect your need for solitude, and there's no one better to work on Thunderbird 5 and keep an eye on us and the world." He turned his head slightly, flicking a glance backward before looking ahead again. "But sometimes you need to let others look after you sometimes." He smiled a little.

"Just let us know what you need, we'll make sure you get it. An ear to talk to, a shoulder to lean on - anything."
ew_gravity: (It's hard to say that)

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-09 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
He wasn't fond of descents. It always made his ears hurt or put pressure on his sinuses which he clearly didn't need right now. Still, aside from absently rubbing his forehead as his brothers spoke to him, he didn't do much else aside from listen. His teal eyes glanced over at both brother and he saw the tenseness of Scott's shoulders and sighed slightly.

"You guys are unfair and make it really hard to say no," John snorted softly, opening his jaw and pressing a finger to his ear to move the lobe a bit, trying to get it to pop. Once it did, repeated the process in the other. "Smother hens."
heavy_lifting: (Suuure...)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-09 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Whoa, hey, don't start classing me with him," Virgil rebuked, thumb jabbing in Scott's direction. He was the real mother hen around here. Virgil? No way. Not in the slightest.

...Okay, except maybe a little, but who was going to admit that? Not Virgil. "I'm just a deeply concerned younger brother," he proclaimed, tongue very securely in cheek.

"Have you even looked in a mirror lately? You're starting to look like the walking dead outta one of Alan's video games," he added, a little more seriously. John was starting to look just terrible. How he hadn't crashed was beyond Virg. Sure, even he had his bouts of insomnia, especially if he was working on something, but they never lasted like this.
thunderbird1: (Born to Lead)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-09 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite the tension, Scott laughed a little at Virgil's wisecrack.

"And someone has to be the one to look after you guys and this crazy business..." He joked. "I'm surprised I don't have grey hairs yet."

Virgil was right though, John did look unwell. He was naturally fair anyway - and now he was just pale and drawn. It was worrisome. Though Scott didn't really need an excuse to worry. It came with the elder brother job description.

"Just hang tight. We're through the worst of the re-entry. Won't be long before we're home."
ew_gravity: ('Cause I'd get a thousand hugs)

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-09 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a scoff at the sass, but John was a little busy trying to pop his other ear to really comment right away. It was getting painful but, with a sigh of relief, it finally popped. Although really, Scott left it wide open. "A little late for that, Scott."

Because he totally had a few already. Which had brought on his own worry since those hadn't been there prior to their dad's disappearance. Scott was already stressed before, but he a lot more on his shoulders. It made him regret his earlier tone, now that he was thinking about it. Although he still couldn't resist the sass back at Virgil for the walking dead comment. "What? Are you afraid I'll sneak into your room one night to gnaw on your head?"
heavy_lifting: (...Ah.)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you might want to clean your mirror," Virgil interjected, though more in a sheepishly tone than the playful sass he'd had a moment ago. Poor Scott. It wasn't really surprising given, well, everything they'd been going through. Virgil was sure he'd be the next to start sprouting them soon enough, but still... He'd been starting to look at Scott and see more and more of their Dad. He wasn't sure that was a good thing.

Quickly Virgil jumped onto John's teasing. "Hey, I sleep like the dead, you know that. I wouldn't even know if you came in," he joked back. "I'd be so doomed."
thunderbird1: (Serious focus)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-09 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Scott was silent at that. Yeah he was aware of it. Not that he put too much into appearances - but it just drove it home that he saw their Dad when looking in a mirror. He ground down the heavy emotions that came with that. He had other things to focus on. Namely getting his family home.

"Not sure if you'd get much of a meal out of Virgil, John." Scott drawled. "Not with all the empty space and all.."

Haha yeah. It was fun being the eldest sometimes.

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, he really can't fault his brothers now. He missed this kind of teasing, even if it happened over the comms too. He didn't miss all the distracting gravity though. He could feel it the closer they got to home. He huffed a tired chuckle anyway.

"You're probably right. As they say, all brawn."

Although they all knew Virgil was the exception to that rule. He was artistic to boot.

But Scott really was resembling more of their dad everyday. John wasn't sure that was a good thing. But he didn't comment on it. "Are we there yet?"
heavy_lifting: (Seriously?)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-09 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, now you guys are just being mean," he said with a over dramatic hmph, folding his arms, trying to look put out, but a grin threatened to ruin it. It had been awhile since the three of them had been together alone, much less teasing each other like this. Hopefully it was making a certain insomniac sitting there a little less grumpy about being dragged off his space station.

"Yeah, are we there yet?" he chorused in, glancing over at Scott, still trying to hold his expression straight.
thunderbird1: (A man and his bird)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-10 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Scott huffed a loud sigh and rolled his eyes exaggeratingly. "God!! Now now children! Don't make me turn this bird around!" His face cracked into a wide grin, though the others wouldn't be able to see it with his back to them. Okay maybe Virg in the co-pilot seat.

They were over the ocean now, and would be approaching Tracy Island in the next couple minutes. Scott had gotten the signal that everything was ready for their approach and the weather was perfect.

"Couple minutes. Just making my approach. Buckle up and prepare for landing." Thunderbird 3 was always fun. They had to land vertically into the hanger with the nose pointing up. No wonder Alan liked it, it was like a carnival ride. Though then again, it was like Thunderbird 1 - so Scott wasn't complaining.

John has been buckled the whole time. He knew what was coming and he was also just too tired to actually want to move around. Especially now that the pesky gravity was weighing him down. He only smiled a little at the joking, but it was nice to tease and joke a little which his brothers like this. Even if most jokes fly over his head.

"The sooner we land, the better," Since he can't go back to his Bird. It was almost putting him back in his cranky mood but he held it back for now. Scott and his grey hairs still in his mind. Still, he was probably just going to head straight to his room and not come out.
heavy_lifting: (What was that?)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-10 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Virgil had been buckled whole time too. Ugh. Landing Thunderbird 1 or 3 was something he was glad he didn't have to deal with. Not that he couldn't, he could but, yeah this trip was only serving to remind him once more why he loved his ship. He'd definitely filled his quota of space for the year.

As chuckles had died down, he glanced back at John again at his comment. The sooner, the better? Was he okay? He didn't really know how trips in 3 were for John on a good day, so wasn't sure if this was a normal thing or if it was the sleep deprivation making it uncomfortable? He didn't say anything, just waited for them to land.
thunderbird1: (On the Alert)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-10 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
The last couple minutes went by in relative silence as Scott brought them home. Though he was reminded that yes, there was a fundamental difference between landing Thunderbird 3 and 1.

His own craft compensated for vertical and horizontal flight and so his chair kept him upright. The seats in Thunderbird 3 didn't - and so when he pulled them nose up to bring the Bird down into it's hanger bay beneath the Round House - the three of them were on their backs. The craft was landed smoothly, and Scott worked on powering it down to prepare it for refueling.

"All parked..." He broke the silence before entering the sequence that started the de-boarding process. The seats retreated from the piloting area and suddenly curved back upright as they exited the rocket.

Soon enough, they appeared from the elevator shafts set into the main living area's floor. Scott didn't waste any time and got up to look at John properly. Changing into civilian clothes could come later. He had a brother to look after. Woah, his brother did look like crap. It was way more obvious in the bright tropical lighting.

"C'mon...let's get a better look at you." Scott said with open concern. "It's not just insomnia is it?" He didn't look well at all.
ew_gravity: (I'd like to make myself believe)

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-10 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
At least getting back into an upright position wasn't disconcerting. Still, John only felt worse and worse as the minutes passed by. It took quite a bit of effort just to get back to a standing position and he had to close his eyes from the vertigo. When he opened them, his head was still pounding and Scott was in his face.

Despite moving his eyeballs making his head hurt worse (see, descents into Earth sucked) due to the sinus headache building between his eyes, he still rolled them slightly and waved Scott off. He headed toward his room, obviously slower than usual, but also because adjusting to gravity in general always gave him a hard time. Being sick just made it worse. "As you said, I need to rest at home. So I'm going to do that."

He also just really needed to lie down.
heavy_lifting: (I'm listening)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-10 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. He was counting that as his one space trip of the year. Glad to be upright, Virgil frowned, watching as Scott examined John, and he had to admit, he was having a look close look too. He did look even worse in this light, somehow, and that was saying something considering the lighting in Thunderbird 5 didn't do much for anyone's complexion.

With a firm frown planted now on the middle child's face, he glanced to Scott. "Meet you up in a minute," he said quietly assuming Scott would likely follow John. Meanwhile, Virgil was going to head to the kitchen for a cup of water and then the medicine cabinet. He could see the tension in his brother's brow; the signs of a hurting head were definitely there.

thunderbird1: (What's the situation?)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-10 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Scott watched John walk away with a frown. He hadn't missed the wavering on his feet either. He glanced at Virgil and noted that he had almost the same expression he did. John always had a little adjustment period when coming down from Thunderbird 5 but this was different. He was clearly under the weather too.

Scott nodded at Virgil and shifted to follow John, then paused. "Get a thermometer too and something for fever." He followed after the second eldest, "John wait up."

Not that it would be hard to catch up anyway. "Before you topple over." He tried to keep his tones light. He didn't make any moves to hold onto John, but walked with him instead. "Virg is gonna bring something for ya to help with the headache." He wouldn't know if his brother had a fever until he touched him or took a reading with a thermometer.
ew_gravity: (Make me fly)

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-10 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
John wasn't walking very fast to begin with, so he didn't bother waiting up. Scott would catch up regardless, even if he wasn't sick. He sighed as Scott came up, absently rubbing his head at the mention of the headache. "Thanks but I would really just like to not be bothered right now. If I can actually sleep, then I'm sure the bug will go away."

And he can't do that if he has certain smother hens are keeping him awake. Or rather, preventing him from trying to sleep. Although with the last three days, he's not sure how much luck he was going to have. He turned into his room and since the sun was still out, there was no reason to turn on the light, although he did shut the blinds. Just before his brothers arrived, he showed on Thunderbird 5, so there was no reason to get cleaned up (it had been a last ditch effort to relax him into sleep but of course it didn't work). He pretty much beelined for his dresser to pull some sleeping cloths; some cloth pants and a a NASA shirt that was obviously a bit worn out (hence why it was now a night shirt).

As he began to undress and pull on his night clothes, he muttered. "Can I topple over yet?" Because he didn't want to wait for Virgil any longer.
heavy_lifting: (Seriously?)

[personal profile] heavy_lifting 2015-07-10 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't have to wait, it hadn't taken that long to find what was needed. Virgil was there in the doorway, a cup of water and a bottle of pills in hand.

"You can after you drink this."

He strode over, holding the water out to him insistently. He wasn't moving till the cup was taken, and once it was he popped open the pills. "And take these," he said, dumping two pills from the container and holding them out to John with a 'don't you even start trying to argue with me look'. He wasn't having none of it. Sooner he took them, sooner Virgil would happily leave John to sleep.

He hadn't bothered with a thermometer as Scott had wanted him to. He kind of doubted from how grumpy John was he'd have put up with it, and besides, if he had a fever the very medicine for the headache would take care of a fever as well. Showed how often Scott read medicine bottle. So yeah, it was a win-win.
thunderbird1: (Default)

[personal profile] thunderbird1 2015-07-10 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Scott didn't hover, but rather walked at a distance that if John lost his balance, he'd be there to catch him. He leaned against the doorway when his brother shambled into his room and started rummaging around his drawers for clothes to change into.

Thankfully it didn't take long for Virgil to come up to the doorway, and Scott turned to glance at him with eyebrows raised as his brother came in with pills and water in hand. he was, gearing up to deal with 'grumpy John' and Virgil comes along doing a great den mother impression. Impressive.

It also gave Scott some relief which he flashed in a glance at Virgil.

"See? Not so bad." He folded his arms with a small grin. They'll leave once he takes the medicine, but they won't be far.
ew_gravity: (You'd think me rude)

[personal profile] ew_gravity 2015-07-10 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
It was a seriously impressive impression, John has to agree. He tugged on his shirt and gave Virgil a raised eyebrow and even a deadpan stare. He couldn't help looking over at Scott. "And he told me not to lump him with you."

Smother hens, he called it. But, he did want to be rid of this headache so he really wasn't going to fight it at all. If he wasn't so tired, he would have gotten some for himself. He took the two pills and the water, downing them both and handing the glass back. "Never said it would be, now can I at least attempt to sleep?"

If it doesn't work, he'll let them do whatever it is they even planned on doing to help. Although he worried about what that might be as well. His brothers could be overbearing at times.
