The 'We're Stranded' Meme

THE ‘WE’RE STRANDED’ MEME

You’re stranded it’s as simple as that. Maybe you were on your way to a nice relaxing holiday, a business trip or maybe you were just on your way home. Whatever the case, it doesn’t look like you’re going to be reaching your destination any time soon. You’re stuck and all you can do is to try and survive until help arrives. If help ever does arrive. Well, at least you’re not alone. No, there’s someone here stranded with you. Maybe you know them, maybe they’re a complete stranger or maybe they were stranded here long before you. Whoever they are you’re going to have to work together to get out of this mess.

What you do to survive and what happens to you is up to you. Do you search for food, do you try and find any signs of human life, do you have a run in with the locals or the local wildlife or do you just close your eyes and hope someone finds you. Whatever happens good luck.

WHERE ARE YOU STRANDED?

On an island – You’re stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. There’s no phone or radio signal and there are no signs of life (that you can see). It could be a huge island with a dense forest in the center or it could be a small, sandy island with sparse vegetation cover. It’s up to you.
In the jungle – One minute you’re making your way along a jungle trail and the next minute you’re completely lost. You have no idea where you are, you have no idea which way to go and all you can see around you is trees and more trees. Have fun in the jungle. Look out for the wildlife and any local tribes
In space – The sci-fi option. For some reason you were in space. Maybe you’re inside a ship stranded in the middle of nowhere or stranded in the middle of some kind of asteroid field. Or maybe you were outside of your space shuttle and now you’re stranded with no way to return. Let’s hope your oxygen supply doesn’t run out
Open Water – Maybe you were simply out for a swim and the current was too strong, pulling you out to sea. Maybe you were diving and after resurfacing you’ve realized you have absolutely no idea which way is land and your boat is nowhere to be seen. Or maybe it’s a Titanic-type situation and your ship has sunk. Better get your life jacket ready.
High in the air – Maybe you’re trapped in a ski lift high above the ground just like the movie Frozen. Maybe you were on a roller-coaster or a Ferris wheel and the rides malfunctioned. Or maybe you’re just stuck at the top of a really, really high mountain or cliff. Whatever the situation you better not be afraid of heights!
Inside an elevator - This one is pretty self-explanatory. You were in an elevator, the elevator stopped and now you’re stranded inside the small space, probably with a bunch of people you don’t know until help arrives.
A cave – Maybe you had planned to explore the cave system or maybe it was a spontaneous event but you went inside and now you’re stranded with no way out.
The middle of nowhere – This can cover any landscape really: a mountainous area, a desert, the middle of the countryside, a tundra area. Whatever the landscape there’s no signs of human life anywhere. You’re stranded.
Wild Card! – Don’t like any of the options given? Come up with your own scenario!

[What was supposed to be a nice day out, shopping, splurge on food, maybe end up at the arcade to play some games was quickly turning out to be a disaster.

Heaving a very annoyed sigh as he pressed the help button for what seemed the tenth time Rin was close to giving up on life.]

Why is this not working?!

[Looking over at Sousuke, his play buddy for the day - or any day really every since he had come back - the death glare he sent him was clearly not meant for him but the metal box they were currently trapped him.]

Technology these days!!

[Seriously! You'd think it would be better these days!]

[ Sousuke gave a small shrug as he stayed leaning against the wall of the elevator. The taller teen gave a quick glance around the metal box. He didn't know if the emergency lights were on or if there was still power. Given how often Rin pressed the help button. The elevator must have been running on emergency power. Perhaps the rest of the building had a power outage. ]

You do know that there's always a possibility for the elevator to go down. You should be glad that it's not moving and that you're not stuck with someone else. [ There could have been other people with them or they could be stuck with people they wouldn't want to be with. Sousuke had been thankful that they were the only ones in the elevator. ]

Why don't we wait? After that let's see if there's another option.

[ooc: this is fine! I am relatively slow at tagging back, just as a heads up! \o. ]

[Logic was not something Rin wanted to hear right now. Or any sort of making sense. He wanted Sousuke to be as annoyed as he was. Why wasn't he annoyed? They were stuck in a small space that was getting hotter by the second. Or maybe that was just him.

I could just shake you. Why are you so calm?!

Rin glared.]

I am totally lucky being stuck with Sir Totally Calm himself.

As if we can do anything but wait.

[Heaving a big - maybe slightly dramatic - sigh, Rin gave up and let himself slide down onto the floor.

This was the worst.]

[ooc: No problem!!]

[ One of them had to remain calm. Why panic? Sousuke didn't see the point in wasting energy when he could potentially use it towards something else. He wasn't sure if there would be another way out.

He turned his attention on Rin, frowning at seeing him being dramatic. He walks over toward his friend and pokes his foot at the side of his leg. ]

Would you rather I panic? Would that really help you? If you have some ideas, suggest them.

[ His eyes focus up at the ceiling seeing the small tiny emergency escape. It could be a possibility to get out. Sousuke wasn't going to be suggesting it any time soon for other reasons. ]

We could try to do something while we wait.

[No. But I am not telling you, you are right.]

Hmpf.

[He looked away, teeth worrying his bottom lip because Sousuke had a point and worst of it all Rin had no ideas to fix this or make it any better. Acting like this was now making him feel embarrassed.

You better not tell anyone Sousuke.]

Something like what? Not like there is much to do here.

[Besides playing simple games or.. talk he supposed. Or whatever else Sousuke thought they could be doing.]

Got any ideas?

[ Sousuke wouldn't have it any other way. It wouldn't be right for Rin to come out and say those things. He wasn't about to tell the next person he sees that Rin had a melt down in the elevator. It was better that they were stuck with each other for these very reasons. Anyone else would spread the word as soon as able. ]

We can just talk. What did you want to do once we got outside? Maybe we should start thinking what we're going to do when we do get out.

[ He sits down next to Rin, leaning against the wall of the elevator. ]

We could be in here for a while. The only thing we can do is distract ourselves from the situation at least.

[Talking about what he wanted to do but couldn't do right now didn't seem that appealing to him but he figured it was better than sitting here staring ahead. He hoped though that the elevator would work quickly, getting stuck here for hours would be a nightmare.]

You know.... It would really suck if one of us needed to take a piss.

[That thought suddenly appeared, of course it immediately made him conscious of his bladder. And the fact he had been drinking a slushie not too long ago. Damn.

Legs pressed together then.]

Quick, say something else so we can stop thinking about this.

[ooc; I apologize for slowness, work got busy :(]

[Sousuke slowly turns his head to look over at Rin after his comment. That would be really bad but it wasn't something that he would think about. Even if they had gotten done with drinking slushes not too long ago. He knew that he would be able to last a few hours or more if needed.]

You would be the one to say something like that. It would be an interesting sight to see. If we had a bottle of some kind you could use it.

[He wasn't going to give up the moment to tease Rin. Even if it meant the other getting uncomfortable slightly.]

Most elevators had an escape door that could be used to get out. Granted that this one may be hard to open. I wouldn't suggest it not knowing if we are between floors either.

What do you want to do after we get out of here? If it's a few hours at most there's still time to do some of the things we couldn't.

[He would think of something like this. And of course right after he thought of swimming. Honestly his brain betrayed him a lot of the time.

This was going to amuse Sousuke way too much.]

[And there it was. Naturally, he glared at him.]

[Of course he would never but he just had to make a threat back.

Stretching out his legs he thought then, hand coming up to absently push back some of his hair.]

Arcade. Definitely that. Maybe get some food? I just wanted to play some games... you?

[Sousuke raises an eyebrow at Rin. His lips twitch as if trying to hide a big smirk going to spread.

There's a brief pause as his shoulder shake and he laughs at Rin's comment.]

No you won't. I'll make sure you wouldn't.

[That wouldn't be hard for him to do either. All he needed to do was grab at Rin's hands if he even thought about doing something like that. Not that it would happen anyway. There were better reasons to get out of pants.

He gives a small shrug while smiling as he looks toward the opposite wall.]

As long as I'm hanging out with you. It doesn't matter.

[There definitely were better reasons to get out of his pants. Rin could name a few easily. Peeing all over Sousuke was not one of them. Seeing Sousuke laugh about it made him want to, but instead he forced his face to stay in the same unimpressed position.

But then Sousuke did that thing again where he would say something that rendered him completely speechless. Made him forget about annoyances and just had him sitting there looking at him.]

Sousuke..

[Rin was half tempted to shove him just so he could mask how he felt. Instead he reached out, grabbing Sousuke's chin and making him look him in the eye. But then, after having done that he wasn't so sure what his intentions were anymore.

Or maybe he was chickening out.

That of course he would not admit. So he dropped his hand uselessly, head bending forward a little as he broke eyecontact.

Ugh.]

[Exploring the cave was supposed to be a relatively easy task - some old Hydra equipment, abandoned for years, had needed cataloguing and then destruction. Bruce, for once, had tagged along entirely for personal scientific curiosity, and because he knew how everything ought to be filed away. It should have been easy, in and out, busywork.

And then there was the cave in.

Now Bruce Is crouching and breathing hard in the rubble, slightly stunned and surprised but hanging onto his emotions with (what he thought was) admirable restraint.]

Whatever...caused that, let's try not to do it again. [He keeps his voice low, in case the sound triggers another shift in the rocks surrounding them.]

[Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters has only been up and running for a few years, but Valerie would have to mark them as some of the happiest of her life. For a long time now, she's been so convinced she's been a freak, an anomaly, someone who has to hide everything about herself in order to survive. And yet here, in the company of these people, she's painfully ordinary.

And she loves it.

So when Professor Xavier says he's going off to go collect another wayward youth to bring back to the school, Valerie doesn't hesitate to volunteer to accompany him. After all, she's technically graduated now, and she's no longer a student, she can go and do these things. Right? It's not like the kids won't survive missing an art lesson or two, and she wants to get out for a bit.

But when their car breaks down in the Middle of Nowhere, Arkansas, she's feeling a little less enthusiastic about this whole endeavor.]

I could try hitchhiking to the nearest town? [Who the hell knows where the nearest town is, though. Based on their current surroundings, Valerie is pretty sure it's like a million miles away.]

[valerie, by far, is one of the more interesting and daunting students to come to his school. it isn't because she is volatile, no. it's that her power, and the seat of control for it is quite difficult to locate and access. it also comes with a set of its own rules, for lack of a better way to put it.

he teaches, often, on responsibility as a mutant. it was a challenge to teach responsibility in the face of time manipulation. far more different than teaching delicate goings on in regards to proper etiquette in the case of telepathy.

still, together they managed, and after she graduated and asked if she could stay on to help teach others: he happily accepted.

nearly immediately after they broke down, charles had begun to reach out with his mind to the surrounding area to see if there was anyone who might be of assistance to them. finding no one, he pulled in a breath, opened his eyes, and looked over.]

No, Valerie, I don't sense anything for quite a ways. I don't think that would do either of us any good, but thank you.

I suppose we'll simply have to wait until someone happens along. We've enough to get us by for a while.

[Sure, they had enough to get by, they had some snacks and water and a few books to keep them occupied, but seriously, they were just going to wait for someone to come along? If they ever came along? Boring.

But she's still too fresh out of school to really feel comfortable blatantly questioning the Professor's decision, even if she really wants to, so she just shrugs a little and cracks her knuckles.]

...I could speed things up a little?

[Ever since she finally gained control of her mutation, the only time Valerie has really used it is on herself, stretching time out around her so she could sleep in some more, enjoy her book, draw a little, that kind of thing. She hasn't ever really sped things up much, and she certainly hasn't done it whilst encompassing an entire car, plus another person.

Still, she's willing to try.]

[he can sense her unease and boredom, but makes no comment on it. she's young, yes, newly graduated as well, but he remembers being so young, reckless, and rash.

he casts a glance over to her, and they are hardly in danger of abusing her powers. it isn't as if they are attempting to change the course of events, merely speed things up.]

[Funny this, the two of them stuck in an elevator, the emergency lights casting everything in a reddish glow around them.]

So, Tali, how's your immune system doing?

[ emergency lighting is the sort of thing that makes a quarian worry, but not panic. it means that something's failed but honestly, things fail all the time and either you're then a dead quarian walking or it's an easy fix: either way, panicking won't do much good. within a few seconds, tali has her omni-tool up, checking for life-support failure and finding all the vital things about their little elevator ecosystem reading normal, at least for the time being.

and then garrus talks. and tali doesn't even lower her arm, just turns her head to look at him, white eyes narrowed behind her mask, seemingly illuminated by more than just the orange glow from her wrist and the emergency lighting above them. ]

I think I can force the door open. [ her tone is even, flat, and obviously entirely done with her companion already. ] It might take a while for someone to find you at the bottom of the shaft.

Cold Tali, I thought we were friends. [ He can't help but be amused by her comment though and does end up tapping the call button to log the error with someone watching the main displays. ]

We were. [ her omni-tool registers his error logging being sent, and assured they won't for sure die where they stand, she lets her arm drop and the interface flick off. ]

Until the elevator stopped. Actually, until we got in the elevator, really. Did you do something?

Why do you think I'm the suspect, I'm not exactly a fan when it comes to riding in elevators. [ He'll cross his arms over his chest an lean against one of the railings. ]

I seem to recall you constantly insisting to Shepard that the shortest route anywhere on this damn station was by using an elevator.

[ without really thinking about it, she mirrors his pose, folding her arms without leaning back. she does shift her weight to one leg, however, making her posture the embodiment of sass. (it's a talent.) ]

[This is what he gets for becoming a Stomper. Experience, he'd told the queen. Adventure, he'd insisted. Well, now he’s stuck in the middle of a jungle with no way out. He could have at least hitched a ride on one of those rainbow colored birds if he was his normal size, but, no, he has to traipse through overgrown plants and navigate his way around murky swamps by foot. It isn’t fun and it definitely isn’t recommended for anyone who doesn’t have a sword ready at hand – those overhanging vines can be real nasty.

Nod holds the cellphone M.K. had given him above his head, checking for a signal. He doesn’t get the point of having one of these things on him if it doesn’t work once it’s low on... whatever those little rectangles are called. He’s pretty sure she’d said something about a compass inside, but, no matter how many times he has fumbled with it, he can’t find it.] This is useless.

[Jack doesn't tend to wander to the warmer climates of the world too often. Being closer to the equator has so many disadvantages, now allowing his frost to stay for too long without the support of lower temperatures. Of course, that didn't mean he kept from visiting the middle regions all together, although the majority of the time, it was only during his journey past latitudes in reaching the other side of the world.

The winter spirit rides the wind wherever he goes, but without the support of a breeze, flying doesn't exactly come easy, especially in warmer climates. So when he's venturing over jungle terrain where the air is thick with humidity and the flow of a breeze is almost naught, his body gives out suddenly, dragging a thin pale body down with gravity hard into the trees below.]

D-damn it, what the ... ? [He lets out a groan, landing on a branch as he sits up to rub his back. Oh, great. Just what he needs. A hot, melting jungle to get stuck into.

He stands on bare feet over the bark with the help of a staff, dusting off his hoodie when he notices a figure down below, seemingly in a very lost state.]

Huh. [It's almost on instinct that he brings up a hand to direct blowing a few snow flakes down to the boy (it's not as if he could be seen anyway). Except with the heat of a location he wasn't accustomed to, the flakes melt before they make contact, becoming droplets as they fly to their target.]

[He continues to walk a few more paces, his eyes fixed on the screen. No little rectangles yet. Tapping at the screen with his finger, Nod breathes a sigh of defeat as he decides to just retire the cellphone for now. It apparently isn’t going to work here.

He's just about to tuck the device away when he suddenly feels something wet hit him right in the side of the face. Wiping away the droplets, he instinctively looks up, squinting to see what could have possibly done that. Don’t tell him it’s going to ra—

And then he sees him – a boy with striking white hair on one of the tree branches. Well, it doesn’t rank as the strangest thing he’s seen in his life, but it’s still a surprise. He can’t help but squint up at him a bit harder because he couldn’t entirely be sure his eyes aren’t playing tricks on him. Why would somebody be randomly up in a tre— Okay, stupid question. Why would a Stomper be randomly up in a tree in the middle of a jungle?

Much better.

He could be a native. He isn’t sure he knows of any Stompers living in this region, but it’s possible. Maybe he should ask him for direction. He seems a far better choice than the cellphone (which is frankly useless and should never be used for travel).]

Hey, do you know how I can get out of here? [Well, what else is he supposed to say?] I’m lost. [Guess there’s that.]

[There's a bit of shock when he notices the question being directed at him, looking around at his surroundings for any other possible company just to be sure. Oh. He really is being spoken to.

But he isn't at all familiar with the area, the terrain not being his usual ground of territory. Still, he hops down from the high branch, landing gracefully on his toes, as he stands up straight to lean on his wooden staff in hand.]

I suppose there's flying out of here. That'll get you right out. [Obviously. Though with the lack of wind, that didn't seem to be working too much in his favor.]

[Huh. This particular Stomper is rather flexible, isn’t he?

And, on closer inspection, much younger than he’d expected from somebody with a head full of white hair. Once again, not the strangest thing he’s seen and he can actually explain this one away himself (more or less). He probably dyed it like some kind of weird fashion statement. What does he know, right?]

Unless there’s a giant bird I don’t know about living in this area, [Nod regards him with unhidden amusement as he folded his arms.] I don’t think flying is an option. [Oh, right. He guess there’s also that metal flying contraption Stompers use.] Or if you have an... airplane lying around here somewhere.

Giant bird? [Jack gives a snort at the suggestion. What kind of world is this guy coming from if he's going on about giant birds? Of course he would have the luck of coming across a total nut job.]

No, there's no airplane. Although I'm sure there's probably one somewhere in these parts, though I'd imagine that's too far out anyway. But, no. With just a little wind, you can have a perfectly decent exit strategy.

[Not that he goes into explaining that much, more concerned about his own well being in this heat with a lack of breeze. He doubts he'll melt, but he wasn't exactly comfortable right now either.]
