The Pacific Rim Meme

Tʜᴇ Pᴀᴄɪғɪᴄ Rɪᴍ AU Mᴇᴍᴇ

In the near future, Earth experiences first contact not from the sky above, but the sea below — with devastating consequences. Through the breach came Kaiju, great towering monsters that destroyed all in their path. The world set aside its differences and came together to combat the deadly threat with monsters of their own: Jaegers. The gigantic robots are controlled by two pilots connected through one neural link, and thrown into battle against the Kaiju to beat back the threat and save humanity.

Today, we face the monsters at our door, and cancel the apocalypse.

» Post with your character's name, series and chosen role(s) in the subject line.
» Use RNG or choose a location and scenario to tag others.

► Pilot: Highly trained and ready for battle, you are the only line of defense between the world and the Kaiju. Together with your co-pilot, you must train, prepare, and suit up to take down the beasts that rise from the sea to wreak havoc on the people of Earth.

► Mission Control: The pilots may be throwing the punches, but you're there to call the shots. Without you there their missions will undoubtedly fail; you have to read the surrounding area, the Kaiju's movements, and everything in between. The work you do is important — but that doesn't make it easy. Ever try and keep a bunch of hot shot pilots in line? Good luck with that one, champ.

► Engineer: The pilots give it their all to keep humanity safe — and you're the one that gets to put things back together when they're finished. Keeping the Jaegers in fighting condition is your job, and they sure don't make it easy; would it kill them to at least bring their arms back with them when they get them ripped off? They seem to think parts grow on trees or something.

► Civilian/Other: Are you a doctor working in the medical labs that gets to put pilots back together? Or perhaps a refugee caught in the crossfire of battle? Hell, maybe you're just there to steal some Kaiju bones and make a quick buck. Whatever or whoever you may be, you might want to make sure you don't get caught where you shouldn't be; the world isn't as safe as it was ten years ago.

I. Jaeger Academy: Pilots may get rockstar status, but it's a hard road to the top. Located in Alaska on Kodiak Island, Jaeger Academy is where promising hopefuls begin the grueling 24-week program that will determine if they have what it takes to make the cut. All pilots start out here, where many will enter but few will end up in the cockpit of a Jaeger.

II. The Shatterdome: By the time the Category-4 Kaiju appear to all but wipe the Jaegers off the map there is only one Shatterdome left, but before that they were located in key cities across the globe to assure rapid response to the Kaiju threat. All Jaegers launch from these locations.

III. Oblivion Bay: Where all Jaegers go on their trip to the big scrapheap in the sky. Located in California, Oblivion Bay is the final resting place of all Jaegers when they are damaged beyond any hope of repair.

IV. Ground Zero: Be it the edges of the Breach or one of the many cities under constant threat of death and destruction, this is where all the action happens. Prepare for glory — or destruction. Thar be Kaiju here.

1. Training: Perhaps it's your first shot at the Academy and you're trying your first Neural Handshake, or bo fighting to test your compatibility with another pilot; maybe you're starting up at MC and just coming to understand that getting a bunch of pilots to listen to someone fresh out of college is a bit like pulling teeth with chopsticks. Whatever it is, it's time to learn the ropes as fast as you can before you find yourself left in the dust.

2. Pregame: There's a lot of work that goes into getting ready to go into battle. Jaegers need to be maintained and loaded for launch, Mission Control needs to have everything rearing to go, and pilots need to get ready to rock and roll. This stuff doesn't just happen by itself, you know. Time to earn that salary.

3. Into the Fray: It's go time, kids! A Kaiju has surfaced and whatever your job, you'd better be ready to rumble. Pilots are there to face the threat head-on while Mission Control is on the comm to see them through to the bitter end, no matter what it may be. Get your game face on and go get 'em, tiger.

4. Bad News Bears: You ever just have one of those days? Every repair you try to make ends in failure, you're mucking up all the readings at MC, you're getting brutally thrashed by a Kaiju, you're left to watch in horror as your city and everyone you've ever loved is smashed to a pulp by a giant shark-headed monstrosity... Sometimes shit just hits the fan no matter what you do. Maybe it's just a case of the Mondays?

5. Recovery: Time to slap on the band-aids and break out the crazy glue. It's been a hard day's night, and there's a lot to be fixed up before the next Kaiju attack; pilots need mending, Jaegers need fixing and game plans need to be redrawn to make sure no one is caught off guard. No matter what kind of day you had, the work's not over till it's over.

6. Night on the Town: So when the work is over, what's the next step? Painting the town red, of course. Pilots are the rock stars of the modern world, so they're off collecting groupies in spades — but the rest of the staff need a breather too, so get out there and make some choices you'll be able to regret come morning. After all, what's life without a little drunken adventure?

7. Wildcard: Mix & match, or make up your own. Don't look at me to tell you what to do, I'm not your friggin' mom.

I have not seen Pacific Rim, but I do like giant robot AUs >>;

[They were all extremely lucky this time. There was some bad planning involved and some machinery that had yet to be tested yet, and, of course, hot shot rookies who thought they were tough shit before facing their first Kaiju.]

[They were lucky to even escape with their lives.]

[She sighed, stretching her back and rubbing the sore spots there before heading to check on the next injured patient. It seems to never end around here. And it was already into her overtime hours. When was the last time she ate something or slept properly again? Who even knows. She'll just keep going until every patient has been taken care of. That's what doctors are supposed to do, after all.]

Send the next one in, please.

[It may not be a suprise for Ryou to see Angeal back again- He and his partner were one of the first pilots, and while their Jaeger has held up well, the bumps and bruises along the way as they adapt are still there.]

You sound tired, Ryou. [The man observes as he enters with a smile, dominant arm in a sling but already healing quickly.] I'm sure it's been a long day, with the attack.

[But at least Angeal is easy to get along with, and far from bullheaded.]
whitewizardgirl: (pigtailed girl)

Probably why one of my Crossover OTPs is also from a series with giant robots :'D

[personal profile] whitewizardgirl 2014-02-06 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Of course, it's never a surprise to see Angeal, but it is a welcome change to the usual fare she gets.]

Any doctor that says they get a good rest in the last ten years is either lying or not a good doctor in the first place. [She gently takes his arm out of the sling, testing to make sure that it was healing properly. It never does get old seeing how small and delicate her hands were compared to his.]

Do you have full range of motion in your shoulder? Any odd stiffness or pain there?
mentors: (And save yourself)

[personal profile] mentors 2014-02-06 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You say that, but its important that you do.

[He grins as she removes his sling, complying in stretching his arm out, moving as she directs.] After all, you have to take care of us lugheads.

[And, as answer to her question as she moves his arm a certain way, he tenses, grimace brief on his face.] It's getting better, but still stiff. I think it just needs time.

Naps in between when pilots are sent out don't count as a full rest. But it probably is the best anyone gets in this department. Though I do hear that Engineering has it worse than we do, having to repair and find the correct parts of the Jaegers, [Everyone has it bad all departments. Just another day of making sure that humanity survives, after all.]

I doubt I'll be getting out of here until after evening, maybe even midnight. There were a lot of you lugheads out today and not enough doctors around to treat them all. [She got to work changing bandages and cleaning out his cuts and putting salve on his bruises.]

Time does heal most things, I heard.
mentors: (I am so high I can hear heaven)

[personal profile] mentors 2014-02-08 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You should take a break as soon as you can, Ryou. You deserve it. [Angeal moves easily to follow her directions, having done this what seemed to be a hundred times before. A thought comes to him, a smile coming to his face with a hint of a grin to them.]

Tell you what, why don't you come by for a physical thearpy session tonight? [And clearly it is a ploy to get her off her feet for a bit.]
whitewizardgirl: (So so embarrassed)

[personal profile] whitewizardgirl 2014-02-08 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take a break once the majority of the patients have been cared for. [Though, if she finds out if at least one of them is faking, she'll probably break something of theirs and send that pilot to someone else. You don't pull stuff like that around here. Nope.]

[Though, she did blush a little pink. What were you thinking when he said physical therapy session? Gutter face.]

L-like I said, I probably won't be getting out of here until late. And you need your rest to make sure that healing arm stays on track to getting better. [But she isn't outright saying no, though.]
mentors: (I'm not gonna stand here and wait)

[personal profile] mentors 2014-02-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aw come on Ryou, you know he didn't mean anything untoward by it. He chuckles all the same.] If you're sure, but the offer is open to you anytime, Miss Ryou.

[He stretches as she rebandages his arm, shifting it back into the sling when the woman was done.] You do good work here for everyone, I don't want you to lose that.
whitewizardgirl: (nice smile)

[personal profile] whitewizardgirl 2014-02-09 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sorry, but with the things that she has heard from other pilots... some that were a lot less nice... or subtle, about what they wanted from her. Her default answer is to just turn them down. She sighs.]

[Well, what's so embarrassing about physical therapy on his arm?]

Are you sure you want to wait up after midnight for me? I might have to find my glass slippers and pumpkin carriage before I go out. [A gentle tease as she gives him a once over, making sure that the sling is comfortable for him.]
mentors: (This is not what I do)

[personal profile] mentors 2014-02-12 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind at all- I'll even feed you if you come by.

[Even in teasing, he does mean it- And Angeal can be quite the cook, even if he just had leftovers available.]

...It might just take a little longer than usual. [He indicates his arm in the sling.]
whitewizardgirl: (Teehee~)

[personal profile] whitewizardgirl 2014-02-12 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
...I never was a girl that would turn down a free meal, no matter how long it took. [And, really, she probably wasn't eating that well anyway, with her hours after a Kaiju attack.]

You should probably sleep a little bit after here, if you are going to wait up for me. At least let me feel a little better knowing that you're on the right track to recovery.
mentors: (If you don't shoot it)

[personal profile] mentors 2014-02-13 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright, I will. [He smiles, standing after she finishes, stretching carefully to get the kinks out of his back.]

Just give me a call when you are ready to head this way, so I can get started.
whitewizardgirl: (nice smile)

[personal profile] whitewizardgirl 2014-02-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
If I don't get an answer, I'll probably just leave a voicemail. [She wanted him to rest more than anything, but she probably will be walking slowly there, if her feet hurting now was any indication.]

But, I'll see what I can do tonight... [Even if it might turn into a midnight rendezvous, she'll at least try to see if he's still up for it.]
