the ass-kicking battle meme

{ the ass-kicking battle meme }
because, let's face it-- it's what most of our characters do as their 9 to 5.
ganked and reposted from [personal profile] allurious

rules:
  • post with your character's name & series in the title. any preferences or notes to other players go here too.
  • tag around using the RNG, or feel free to make up your own scenario if you already have an ass-kicking prompt in mind.
  • kick ass and take names.

{ i. PRE-ASS-KICKING. }

1. GEAR UP. Can't fight a battle without the proper equipment, right? You're doing whatever you need to protect yourself from the enemy. Charging up mana. Strapping ammo to yourself. All in a day's work.
2. BATTLE ROOM. You can't just storm in there unless you want to get yourself riddled with bullet-holes-- so you've gotta plan how to down the enemy, and fast. Maps, floor plans, elaborate attack strategies.
3. PEP-TALK. All soldiers need it before going into battle. Fighting the end boss? Going up against an old friend? Better raise that morale of that pal of yours. Maybe they're nervous.
4. LAST GOODBYE. You know it's a lost cause. Say what you need to before you head out there.

{ ii. ASS-KICKING TIME. }

5. STAKEOUT. You and your buddy have been waiting for the target to appear for some time, whether you're cramped in a loft with sniper rifles or at a bar undercover with a pistol strapped to your thigh.
6. INFILTRATION. Whether you're navigating your way through hi-tech laser security systems, avoiding trip wires and empty can noise traps or sneaking into the enemy's lair in the dark, you're a pro at infiltration. I hope.
7. UNDER FIRE. From whatever common enemy or beast you pissed off, they're after you, teeth flashing or guns blazing. Better think quick.
8. SUDDENLY, UNARMED. Whatever weapon you use has been deactivated, knocked out of reach or broken. Ensue amazing karate skills.
9. MAN DOWN. You've been downed in battle by whatever you're fighting. Let's hope you're just unconscious and that your comrades are gonna avenge you.

{ iii. POST-ASS-KICKING. }

10. CELEBRATE. The boss is dead, the world is saved. Pop open that bottle of bubbly, will you?
11. HEAL UP. Whatever you fought is dead, but it sure did tear you a new one before it went down. Time for some first aid.
12. REFLECT. What's changed, now that the battle is over? Is the battle ever really over?
13. MOURN. You lost some good guys back there-- nothing's going to change that. You better come to terms with it before it consumes you.

((Sounds good! If you like this, we can run with it, or I can edit. Feel free to add other demons, if hellhounds aren't bad enough.))

[Hellhounds really shouldn't be a problem for the average angel--not that Balthazar considers himself average--but in a large pack, they're decidedly unpleasant. He wouldn't want to allow them to tear his vessel up under the best of circumstances, and being separated from Heaven for so long has cut his power level by a larger percentage than he'd like to admit.

When even a handful of short flights fails to shake the bastards, he gives up and looks for a good spot to stop and fight. What he finds is an empty strip mall, the parking lot thoroughly gone to seed, and the abandoned buildings broken open and vandalized over the course of several years. It's a suitable place to make a stand, and, with distant howls echoing in his ears, he puts his back against a wall and draws his sword.]

[ Meg manages to stumble upon the same abandoned strip mall, her left leg covered in a few deep scratches but feeling no worse for wear. She's spent the better part of two hours being chased, after happening upon a nest of demons.

Killing the demons had been no problem - there were only two home at the time, but apparently the word got out about her location. Hell hounds were nothing to sneeze at, and she'd been quick to flee. Sadly, they'd caught on to her scent and she needed a new plan. Holing up in the Fortress of Abandoned Shopping Experiences seemed like a good idea, and she managed to slip in a side door.

It's only once she's inside that she senses another presence, an obviously angelic one, and there's an eye roll to be had. There was no telling who it could be, but she was going to find out. These days, her expectations of angels and humans had changed just slightly. Before it had been kill first and no questions later, but now she wasn't as enthusiastic on starting a fight, especially with hounds on her ass. Tucking the sword she held behind her back, she strolls near their location, real casual like. The distant howls of hounds make her twitchy and she calls out:
]

Okay, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. I'm not interested in tussling with an angel and hellhounds, so how about we skip that part and do something new?

[Sensing the newly-arrived demonic presence, Balthazar is quick to assume whoever it is is with the hellhounds. He retreats into a shadowy corner, hoping to use the element of surprise. It's fortunate for them both that Meg shouts when she does. A rustle and flicker of wings later, and Balthazar is facing her, just out of arm's reach. Sword ready, he studies her with narrowed eyes.] So the 101 Damnation Dalmatians...they're not your friends, either?

[He glances in the direction of the eerie barking, briefly.] I could be amenable to a truce.

[ More than happy to team up with someone (even an angel), Meg doesn't get a chance to ruminate on her turn of luck before a crash is heard a few stores down. The hell hounds have finally reached their hiding spot and she's quick to pull the sword out from under her jacket, gripping the handle tight as she turns in the direction the sound came from. ]

Can't say the mutts are listening to my commands. I've had three on my ass and it seems like you've got a few of your own.

[ Looking over at him, she smirks. ]

Bet I can kill more than you can, Wings.

Not sure how many I've got. I suppose we'll find out! [With one last glance to gauge her sincerity, he turns and puts his back to hers. There's an impact on the side door of the store they're in, and he's betting the structural integrity won't hold forever.

Chuckling at the wager, he nods.]
Sure, sure. What stakes?

[ Meg thinks what she would want while the hounds slam against the door again, the sound echoing loudly in the empty store. Her options are limited, and she speaks to him over her shoulder. ]

When I win, I get your sword. Thinking about starting up a collection.

[ There's another slam against the door and the metal screeches in protest. ]

[Oh, yeah, right, like he's going to agree to that. But he has to admire the audacity of the demand. He laughs softly.] You can have my sword when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers. If you win, I'll write you into my will.

And that's a big if, by the way. [Such an ego! The grin on his face drops away as the door starts to give.] We can negotiate later. Brace for impact in three...two...

[ Right on cue, two hounds burst through the door. The one in the lead makes a beeline in her direction and she meets it with a boot to its face, knocking it down. Stabbing it in the torso just seems to piss it off, and it snaps at her arm. ]

[For a fleeting moment, it occurs to Balthazar that it would also be advantageous to him to just fly off while the hounds are fighting the demon. Particularly since they're more interested in her for the moment.

But that would be unworthy of him. He just hopes she won't stab him in the back when she gets a free moment.

Lunging for the one that follows, he's quieter, feinting and darting to the side to catch it in the ribs. It turns and rips a hole in his pant leg, but that just puts it in the right place for a stab through the eye and into the brain. Balthazar looks over at Meg as he withdraws the blade, face perfectly calm, but there's no time to speak. There are more hounds squeezing through the broken doorway.]

[ In the back of her mind, Meg is a little surprised that she managed to secure any help at all. The sounds of Balthazar's attack on the hound give her a little reassurance, that for the moment she only needed to worry about the beasts coming through the door.

Pushing herself off the corpse of the one she killed, she keeps her eyes on the mutts pushing through the door. After squeezing through, they go opposite directions, as if trying to corner their prey. Instead of rushing forward to attack, she stands her ground, switching the sword from her right to her left hand.
]

So, I might have miscalculated how many were on my tail. But that won't be a problem, right?

[personal profile] tryingitall 2013-02-12 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
[If he were connected with Heaven, still, he might not have bothered. What's one less demon in the world, after all? Probably a blessing. But, like her, he's at odds with his own kind just now, and alliances could be advantageous, long term.

Assuming they both survive.]
Oh, no problem at all. The more the merrier! [At this point, the ones after him have joined her entourage, so who knows which ones belong to which fugitive? He spins his blade lightly, counting five, swears softly, and goes back to back again.

She's right to hold back. The hounds don't seem to be waiting for long, lunging to make unnerving snaps at them, without getting quite close enough to make contact.]

[ No use in assigning mutts to whoever they are chasing - the hounds have both of their scents, and she knows how they love to work in packs. Her only hope is that no demons show up for a while, at least.

After one hound gets uncomfortably close to snapping its teeth into her forearm, she jams the sword into its neck. The beast howls, dropping to the ground and twitching as another lunges in her direction, knocking her to the ground. She starts a tug of war with the thing, it's teeth firmly planted on the sword in her hand trying to yank it from her grip. Meg brings up a knee to knock it off her, but that only seems to piss it off more.

[Times like this, Balthazar wishes he had held on to some of the weapons he stole from Heaven's arsenal, rather than letting Castiel take them all. There was bound to have been something in there designed to deal with these little bastards.

Although, anything that could wipe out hellhounds on a large scale would probably be uncomfortable for a demon to be around, too.

He hesitates to stab at the beasts, making a feint and a few slashes across the muzzle here and there; not enough to dissuade them completely, but enough to give them pause. When Meg falls, though, it seems like a tipping point, and one of them leaps at him, as well, sending him stumbling backwards even as he delivers a disemboweling stroke. Shoving the creature away as it goes through its death throes, he rolls to his knees, on the ground next to her and, seeing her predicament, instinctively stabs for the back of the hellhound's head.

Unfortunately, this leaves two of the hounds unoccupied, and both demon and angel open for attack.]

[ Balthazar's timely save could not have come soon enough, and the hound's body goes limp over Meg, trapping her under its weight. After a moment of struggling to get a good grip on the beast's corpse, she pushes it as hard as she can in the direction of the two hounds coming in for the attack. The combined weight of the dead hound and the force she used to push it knocks the pair down, giving the demon and angel time to regroup.

It's a little bit of a struggle to get herself standing again - the hound had managed to gnaw on her arm a bit, and the flesh looked comparable to ground meat. The pain, though, was just a distant echo and it didn't hinder her from using her other hand.

For a moment, she wishes that a demon would show up. They were easy enough to distract with a bit of mouthing off on her part. Predictably stupid.

Looking over at the angel, Meg gives him a considering look.
]

You're pretty handy with that sword.

[He's relieved by the seconds' reprieve, scrambling to his feet. Holding out a hand in an offer to help her up, he's not really looking at her, still watching the hounds warily as they tear angrily at their dead sibling. If she doesn't accept his hand, he won't object, though.

Balthazar flashes a brief smile at the compliment, glancing at her long enough to wink. He's impressed by her skill, as well; in his experience, demons can be vicious bastards but that doesn't mean they all actually know how to fight. Meg clearly does. There's no time to speak, though, as the last two hellhounds make a lunge in tandem, charging between to separate them.]

[ Meg's quick to dodge the incoming hellhound, throwing herself against an empty clothes rack beside her. The hound whirls around, getting ready to charge at her again, and she gets the brilliant idea of toppling the rack onto the animal.

It kind of works - the hound isn't immobile, but it does slow down, trying to untangle itself from the mess of metal and clothes hangers. Holding her injured arm close to her stomach, she grips the sword tightly in her free hand, taking a quick glance at her ally to see how he was doing.

[personal profile] tryingitall 2013-02-20 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
[This time, it's Balthazar that gets himself in trouble. His hound has managed to get behind him and clamp down on the back of one leg, pulling him over and worrying the muscle, like a wolf hamstringing a deer. The angel looks more angry than pained, spitting curses in Enochian as he tries to twist and get a stab in. His blade makes contact, but only in the front leg, and the hound holds on.]

[ Noticing that Balthazar's leg is currently being used as a chew toy, Meg distracts her own hound by kicking the clothes rack as hard as she can. The hound, along with its new cage, skitters across the floor with a loud screech and she has a free moment.

Holding her useless arm at her side, she scrambles over as close as she dares, stabbing the mutt once with her sword and managing to catch the hound in the eye. Its grip stays true, and with a grunt she rams the sword into its neck, pulling it out and stabbing again in the back of the head.

[Balthazar's swearing switches from Enochian to English. In the latter language it's less creative, unfortunately, and mostly restricted to accusing the hellhounds of progenitive acts with their family members. Regardless, Meg's initiative gives him the space to get another slash in at the beast, cutting at its jaw muscles. The grip loosens, and he tears himself away. His vessel is bleeding profusely, but that's a step above the state a human would be in.

Rising to his knees, he places a hand on Meg's shoulder, adjusts his grip on his blade, and flings it toward the hound tangled in the clothes rack. His aim is good; the metal sinks into the creature's neck. With both that one and the one that was on his leg now caught up in death throes, he pauses to catch his breath.]
Ow.

You and be both, blondie. [ She's inspecting her mutilated arm with a degree of irritation. Meg's no spring flower, but it's going to be such a pain in the ass to find a jacket this nice again. Not to mention the scratched up leg she'd arrived with earlier - the cuts have healed in the meantime but that just means new pants.

She lets out a frustrated sigh.
] I just got this damn thing.

[ The hounds finally shudder and collapse in unison, earning a raised eyebrow from Meg. Cocking her head to the side, she listens for anything nearby. Except for the stray rat that found its way into the building, there wasn't anything to make her too suspicious, but one can never be too careful. ]

[There's a moment's pause while he recovers, and then realizes she's still holding an angel blade and he's thrown his across the room. Perhaps not the smartest move ever. He makes a soft grumbling sound and drags himself up, limping over to retrieve his sword.]

Too bad the stores are all closed. We could have restocked right away. [He wipes the blade off on the hellhound's fur and puts it away, glancing over at her.]

I might be able to heal that for you, but I can't guarantee the process wouldn't be incredibly painful, given our respective natures.

[ She's moved on to inspecting the leg of her jeans with an annoyed look on her face, trying to plan out her future thieving for more clothing. It'll have to be soon, looking ragged and torn draws way too much attention these days.

His offer does catch her attention, and she gives Balthazar a wary glance. Meg can't say she's been healed by one of the wingnuts, but it interests her. Better to be informed than left guessing, right?

So, without a word, she'll hold out her arm toward the angel, an expectant look on her face. She's willing to give this a try - no pain no gain.
