the bodyguard shipping meme

You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.

And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.

Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.

Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?

How to Play
1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference.
2. Comment to others.
3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you.

[Awesome! Diana here is supposedly a supernatural messiah. Giles could be the guard? Alternatively, she works on a supernatural underground railroad, protecting people from vampires, so she could also be the guard. Whatever your pleasure!]

[ He's good at guarding people so I'm game for that if you are! Would you mind setting us up? I'm at work still so I'll be a bit slow otherwise. ]

Despite years of indoctrination and annoying chanting and all that fun stuff, Diana didn't, not for one minute, believe that she was the Cainite messiah. She just wasn't good enough to be any kind of messiah. Too many black marks in her history.
Too many lapses in judgement. Way too many one-night-stands for any kind of messiah.
Unfortunately, her sister was absolutely convinced that the propaganda was true. And, unfortunately, said sister was her boss. So when Artemis decided that Diana needed a babysitter, there wasn't much she could do to argue.

Biting down on her lower lip, she paced back and forth in the lobby of the apartment complex. The clip-clop of her go-go boots echoed off of the walls.

Yeah, that was another thing. She was pretty sure messiahs didn't wear go-go boots.

She had no idea what to expect this time. Her last bodyguard, back in the 1980s, had been an Amazonian woman named Elsbeth. Diana had given her the slip any number of times. Because, while Elsbeth was good at the fighting thing, she was easily distracted.

God, she hoped this next one would be too.

Rupert Giles knew he wasn't the most accomplished of fighters, but he knew a thing or two about how to keep someone safe. He was not, nor ever would be, a Slayer, but he wasn't completely useless when someone else was in danger either.

He'd been told that there was someone who needed an extra amount of protection, and when he learned a thing or two more about the person in question, he decided to take on the job of becoming her bodyguard.

This was to be their first meeting, and although he wasn't exactly nervous, he did feel some amount of apprehension as to whether or not they would get along. It would make it so much easier if they could manage to be civil, of course. And with that thought in mind, he walked into the apartment that was to be the scene of their meeting.

Clearing his throat as he approached, he said, "Excuse me, but I'm looking for someone by the name of Diana." Since it didn't seem that there were any other individuals around, he wondered if he might perhaps be speaking to her. Of course, he surmised that she was hardly the only lady in the building.

No worries!

Diana turned at the sound of his voice. Her sister often relied on her supernatural gifts to size up a person. Arty loved reading auras and gazing into the abyss of someone's nature. But frankly, Diana thought it was kinda a cheat. An abuse of Disciplines, when one wasn't necessary. But, of course, Diana was much more of a people person than either of her sisters.

She relied on intuition to try to get a read on the guy.

English, which was nice and nostalgic. She could see why Arty would be inclined to like the guy. He had something of a bookish appearance, with the clothes and the glasses. Like Papa, actually. A bit on in years, but Diana had never ever been good at reading a mortal's age. Obviously, there was more to him than the physical. Which was an interesting deviation from Arty's normal choice of bodyguards.

Maybe he was a Mage? Arty had always been fascinated by them. But Diana wasn't ready to cheat and look at his aura. This was a better way to get to know someone.

The lively art of conversation.

"Yeah," she said, tucking a piece of hair back behind her ear. She'd worn it loose today, with only a beaded headband around her forehead. Diana was pretty much the 1960s personified. Along with the headband and go-go boots, she was wearing a purple, mod mini-dress and several strands of beads in white, pink, purple, and gold.

Why she dressed that way was a bit of a point of contention. And a mystery. Was she rebelling against the 'messiah' title? Nostalgic for a bygone era? Or just set in her ways?

Even Diana wasn't really sure.

"Are you Rupert?" she asked.

Giles knew full well that he could be perceived as someone who'd gone a bit to seed. But appearances were deceiving, or so people said. Still, he wanted to actually know the person he was assigned to guard. It was his job, of course, but he found that having more than a surface knowledge of an individual made it that much easier.

"Well, then, it's nice to meet you," he replied with a smile as he took in her appearance. Unconventional was one word that came to mind, but of course, who was he to judge? He didn't know the first thing about what someone like her ought to look like, and even if he did, he knew that people rarely fit into preconceived molds. He thought fondly of Buffy and of how she didn't strike him as the Slayer, at least not at first.

"I am, yes. I hope you haven't been waiting long."

It was harder to resent a bodyguard (or babysitter) when they were polite. Of course, Diana had been born in Notting Hill. She knew that even when the English were rude, they did it politely. Countess Ruth had taught her the art and science of a well-landed insult that was delivered with charm and a smile.

She dipped her head, her hair falling back over her ear. With a few clip-clops of her boots, she crossed over to him, holding out her hand. Liam and Arty were always on her case about handshakes. They were dangerous. Someone might feel for a pulse, for body temperature. A handshake could kill her.

As with many other things, Diana ignored them.

Handshakes were human. And that was how she wanted to live her life.

"Nah," she said. "Just meditating on why my sister sent me here. Kinda my favorite pastime."
