maledicat_dominus: (et nulla est in nobis veritas)

Faust looked with interest upon the everything and nothing that surrounded them. He felt a sense of dread and a sense of fascination, and noted them both, carefully, tracking his emotions for shifts and changes.

The young woman who walked alongside him seemed to be neither a guide nor a threat. A fellow traveler, in this place, or to it.

He felt, achingly, searingly, as though it would be folly to stop, or to look back whence they had come. He wanted, more than anything, to do so, but the dread of it warned at him, whispering in Latin to flee. For the moment he merely savored the feelings. Fear. Compulsion.

"That's a surprisingly difficult question to answer," he said. His voice sounded too loud in his ears, fracturing the whispering silence of the dark forest. "I seek knowledge. I want power beyond the reach of mortal men."
