[ when steve had agreed to let natasha set him up on a blind date after all, peter parker hadn't been what he'd expected at all, and yet it's a better fit than anything he had expected, any of the shield agents she's suggested to him before. maybe it's because peter is spiderman, maybe it's because there are shared life experiences there despite the different times in which they were born, despite all their differences. peter is cute and he's brave and he doesn't mind steve's need to take things slow. he's suffering from his own losses, steve learns, and that's not the kind of thing he would wish on anyone, but it makes him feel like some of his own silences are better understood.

he doesn't know how natasha knew, but somehow? somehow, it works — and a glacial pace turns to slow turns to not all that slow after all: steve had only meant to kiss peter good night, but then peter had done something with his tongue and steve hadn't thought twice about asking peter inside, and now here they are. this apartment in new york is still new, and it wasn't chosen by shield. it's steve's, even if it doesn't quite feel like home yet. it does have sturdy walls, and he's currently got peter pressed against one, one hand sliding under peter's shirt to find warm skin. ]

[Peter has never really ~done~ the dating scene. There's Before and there's After. Before, nobody looked twice at him and After, Peter just...couldn't. He understands a thing or two about a relationship ending swiftly, dealing with those unresolved feelings that could never be resolved and moving forward despite it. Granted, Steve's situation is on a far larger scale, but it's relatable in a way Peter wasn't expecting. Even if the date doesn't work out, perhaps they could find a friendship in the introduction, at the very least.

But it is working out, in the best of ways. All night, Steve's been charming, funny, he's an artist - another thing Peter is more than happy to talk about, at length. The distance he'd set for himself at the beginning of the night, not wanting to get his own hopes up, was beginning to disappear. So when Steve kissed him goodnight - okay, maybe Peter got a little carried away. They'd parted, blush high in Peter's cheeks, and just as he was about to apologize, Steve had invited him inside.]

Steve - [Peter huffs out his name, glasses askew as his own fingers curl against Steve's back, bunching up the fabric and dragging him closer. He dips his head, trailing his lips over Steve's jaw, the sharp, smooth line he must have shaved fresh this morning.]
