PET PERSON SHIPPING MEME!

PET PERSON SHIPPING MEME

>> premise

Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.

The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.

Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.

So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.

With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master!

>> how to play
Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies.

So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon.

Rules
Comment with your character and say whether they'd be a master or a pet. Ideally, they could be played as both. Mention what kind of each they'd be and what they'd be like, (ie: "Xx-chan is a bunny girl who is happy to please her master" or "Asterothia is a cat boy who is aloof but loyal to his true master"). For pets, be sure to include features ("wolf ears, tail, teeth).

REMEMBER, pet does not automatically equal submissive and master automatically equal dominant. This is not a BDSM setting though BDSM can be included. How far you want to go with the actual "pet" aspect is up to you, as well. Your pet could just be your slightly-furry roommate or soulmate!
Comment to others.
Play out the scene.

>> prompts
This by now means an all-inclusive list, but it should get you going in the right direction.

First Time Pet/Owner: Usually, pets are gotten at a young age; you're an old dog. Can you learn new tricks?
True Bond: What all masters and pets yearn for...the pet's loyalty and adoration for life.
Love: It's expected for masters to love their pets, but to love them? Romance is strictly forbidden.
Old "Couple": Master and pet have grown together and know each other. You know, know each other.
Loss of Master: The pet has lost their master, perhaps even their True Bond. Is it possible to move on?
Young Master/Older Pet: Pets age quicker than masters, so it's possible to end up with a bit of an "age" difference.
Family Pet: This pet's been raised as part of the family. What happens when their feelings for a family member get more than platonic.
For Your Protection: You don't want to be a master, but you have to take in a pet for their protection lest they be in danger from the general public.
Stray: You're a stray or a "Free." Can you live like this with your biology screaming for you to make a match?
Servant: You're more servant than pet.
All Sex, All the Time: The only purpose for this pet is to service the master, and not in a way that means cleaning their house.
Guard: You're a loyal bodyguard, a service pet. You'll do anything for your master. Anything.
Pet Play: This is for those who prefer to keep their animals on leashes, have them eat from bowls, and keep away from clothing.
Breaking In: Training is important with any pet.
In Love with Another Master...or Pet: To lust after another's master is no better than treason, and to wish to be with another pet just cruel!
Punishment: Bad dog, no nookie!
Heat: All pets go into heat, and it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of this problem. After all, unchecked dry humping kills thousands every year.
Breeding: Breeders know the best qualities in each type and mate the cream of the crop together to continue lines. It's a hobby for some, a calling for others.
Pregnancy: So, about that whole "hybrid" thing. It maaaay be more true than you think, even if pet/human pregnancies are the stuff of salacious tabloids.
Territorial: Hey, hey, other dog person! This is your apartment. Stay the fuck out!
Kennel: Kennels are where unadopted pets are kept. They're generally agreed to be depressing places. Why not volunteer at one, keeping the pets healthy and happy with the kind of affection only humans can show?
Rebelling Against the System: Damn the Man! Pet people are people, too! Just be careful not to get talk. You know what happens to bad pets.
Instant Attraction: You ever just look at someone and know they're the one? That they're...your master? But what if you've been trying to fight it? Well, don't try!
Dominant Pet: You might be the pet, but you call the shots, at least in the bedroom.
Pet Show: Everyone wants to show off how perfect their animal is. Look at that ass! And you'll never believe their special skills...
Therapeutic: Pets, especially those bred for their kindliness, are perfect therapy for those who've been through trauma and heartache.
Jealousy: Who's that around your master? Oh, hell no. They better not be touching them!
Petting: Pet people are absolutely gaga for being touched. Even the most steely ones turn to mush for rubs.
Games: Playing with your pet and giving them exercise is a key to happiness. Of course, with a pet person, you might want to use other toys instead of a ball.

He wanted things back to the way they were. Wade, happy and healthy, eating chips on the couch. Peter curled on his lap, receiving pets with Wade's free hand while he rambled on about whatever he was watching on TV. Sometimes he turned on the TV, while Wade was gone, just for some noise. But that usually reduced him to tears, so maybe the silence was better.

Peter let out a sad mewl, staring down at the couch. He didn't think anything was changing. Just because Wade had come home a little less drunk and was capable of more than grunting in Peter's direction. Wade probably wouldn't even remember what he was saying in the morning.

Wade was really good at fucking everything up apparently. He looked at Peter, the cat's body language breaking his heart. He ran his hand through Peter's hair, pushing it back away from his face and then rubbing his little cat ears like he usually did. This was Wade's fault entirely. He pulled away because he didn't understand his feelings and it clearly was affecting Peter negatively.

Maybe he did need to bring up the whole talking thing. Or at least tell Peter about the vet trip. Even if he couldn't talk, Peter understood him. Wade knew. "Look. I learned some things talking to Weasel tonight and tomorrow I'm going to make an appointment to get you to the vet. I'm really worried, baby boy." His eyes welled up with tears. He felt fucking miserable. "I'm sorry. I have never been the best owner from the beginning and I just keep fucking up. You deserve better than I've been giving. I'm not going to do this anymore, okay? No more drinking." Wade was going to suck it up. No more of this shit. He needed to be better and he knew that sorry wasn't enough. He was going to have to show that he was sorry.

Peter whined, pushing hesitantly into Wade's hand. He wanted that, he wanted Wade back so badly, but he was afraid it wouldn't last. That tomorrow, Wade would go back to being distant and Peter would be right back here, waiting and worried for his charge to come home.

Peter made a confused sound at Wade's words, cocking his head to the side. Worried? About what? Is that why he had been out all the time? What was wrong? Peter whined and shoved his face into Wade's when the tears started to fall, nuzzling them away, letting them soak into his hair. Whatever Wade was going through, they'd get through it together. Another, encouraging chirp, and Peter pulled back enought to eye Wade with obvious concern.

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-31 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
With the way that Wade was acting, it was understandable for Peter to feel that way. So all they could do was wait for tomorrow and see. Wade knew that he was serious and that he wouldn't hurt Peter like this anymore, but he would have to prove it.

Being away hurt him too. That was another reason he drank because all he wanted to do was go back home to Peter and drinking was the only way to make the longing stop. It hurt so much to be away from him. Wade needed to stop being an idiot. Maybe the reason he could be so honest with himself about this right now was because he was still kind of drunk and he felt a little brave.

Peter's nuzzling only made the tears fall harder. He saw Wade at his worst all the time. It was hard to let your flaws be on display like that. But Peter was always gentle with him. Always kind and sweet. It was the Wade felt like he didn't deserve that. Especially not right now after what an asshole he'd been. "I really do love you, Petey Pie. I'm so sorry. I'm terrible at showing it right now."

That bravery kicked into high gear when he pulled back and looked into Peter's eyes. Peter looked so sad and worried. Wade's thumb brushed over Peter's bottom lip before he leaned over and kissed him gently. It was loving and sweet, not rough or rushed like most of the kisses Wade had initiated in his life. This was different and right now he really didn't care. He just wanted Peter to know that he was loved and that Wade was sorry for hurting him.

If only Wade could learn to be okay with expressing his emotions, maybe Peter could help him. Maybe Peter would have known it was time to reveal the truth, that his mute technique was only hurting rather than hindering, that Wade had outgrown his need for the silent treatment. Yes, Peter had seen Wade at his worst, but he also thought he'd seen him at his best. And everything in between.

Peter pressed his cheek into Wade's palm with a soft chirrup, honestly just happy to be close to him right now, rather than with distance put between them, as Wade had been prone to these past few weeks. The kiss was...unexpected. Peter froze for a second before he slowly, if a little warily, relaxed into the kiss. It felt nice it was...good. Wade tasted like the sharp tang of alcohol, but Peter pushed past it to the underlying flavor of Wade, his natural, spicy cool taste. Something Peter loved dearly.

Wade hoped he could be that way eventually too. It would take time. He had a lot of conflicting feelings over what was going on and that was keeping him locked up like Fort Knox. That was why drinking was the only way for him to mask the confusion and the pain and the guilt.

Something in Wade felt warm and comforted. It was this overwhelming feeling of rightness and it made him so happy in that moment. He pulled back from the kiss and immediately gathered Peter up in his arms, holding him close, hand buried in Peter's hair. "I love you. I'm so sorry," he mumbled sleepily. Everything was so exhausting lately and it was finally catching up with him.

At least they hadn't lost their progress. Wade was upset about Peter, not about his previous nightmares. It was something, it just would have helped if Peter freaking knew it! As far as he was aware, though, Wade had nothing to feel guilty about.

Peter whined and snuggled in close, curling his tail around Wade as he burrowed into his chest. His ear twitched against Wade's hand, enjoying the warmth of his touch. He wanted, so badly, to tell Wade he loved him too, but he couldn't. Honestly, he'd been silent for so long his voice was probably rough as hell.
beaarthur: (Before | thinking)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-31 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, the progress was still there. He was just being an idiot about other things now. Story of his life. Wade held Peter close, feeling relaxed for the first time in weeks. Wade continued to stroke Peter's ears and hair. This was what he needed. Why was he being so stupid?

"We'll take you into the vet tomorrow," Wade mumbled, starting to fall asleep. "See about you not being able to talk. Imma kill that breeder." And then he was out, hand frozen in Peter's hair and his eyes closed blissfully.

Peter rumbled and settled down into Wade's arms, ears slowly relaxing where they'd previously been pinned to his head. Wade snuggling him, holding him close and petting him - it was all he ever wanted, nowadays.

Wade's mumbled words startled him, though, and Peter froze, frowning as he glanced up at Wade. He was worried that Peter wasn't able to talk? What had he found out? How could he have known Peter was supposed to be able to? He whined uncertainly, unsure if Wade was too far gone and - yeah, he was asleep.
beaarthur: (Before | grin)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-31 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Wade was definitely out and slept better than he had in a while. Hopefully Peter felt better too. He wanted to comfort him but passed out in the process.

When he woke up, his head hurt. He didn't realize he was as trashed as he was. He remembered bits and pieces of coming home and falling asleep holding Peter and he remembered everything that Weasel had said about Peter talking. So when he got him, he immediately called the vet and lucky for them, they had an opening later in the afternoon.

Wade wasn't as distant. He was still a little stiff because of his guilt, but all it took to get him to relax again was burying his hand into Peter's soft hair. He spent the time before the vet visit with his pet and that was exactly what he needed.

But now here they were, waiting for the vet to come into the room and start Peter's check up. His vitals had already been taken, so they were good to go. Wade continued to keep contact with Peter, petting soothingly. He looked at the cat, a smile on his face. "You doing alright, baby boy?"

Peter hadn't been able to sleep much. He dozed, but woke up every time Wade shifted, worried that he might get up and pull away from Peter. It never happened, though, and when Wade woke up, Peter was right there, staring at him with wide eyes and a questioning mewl.

Wade was better, the next day, although he still insisted on going to the vet. Peter was torn by this, digging in his heels. Still, Wade got him to the vet with soft words and even softer hands that made Peter melt into his pets. He meowed at Wade's question, still not happy about being at the vet's, sat on the cold table with his leash clipped into place. He still didn't know what the hell had spurred Wade into this visit.

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-01 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It had definitely been rough trying to get him to the vet. He felt guilty for pushing Peter, but this was important. So he tried his best to be comforting since Peter was clearly uncomfortable. He rested his head on Peter's, still petting soothingly. "It'll be okay."

There was a knock on the door and then the vet came in. It was the same vet they had come to see a few times before, Dr. Young. He had kind eyes and a very gentle demeanor. Wade stood up and shook his hand.

"Wade! Good to see you. And you too, Peter. What seems to be the problem?" Dr. Young asked, sitting in the seat across from them. He looked over the paperwork that Wade had filled out for Peter.

Wade sat down too, immediately going back to petting Peter. "Well, doc. Peter is a service animal and he doesn't speak." Wade said bluntly, pulling out Peter's papers from his jacket. He handed them toward the vet. "A friend of mine told me that wasn't normal? So I've been worried that there might be something wrong."

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Shit. Wade knew. Wade found out and - and now they were here. Fuck. Peter had no idea what to do, and froze, staring at the vet with wide eyes, heart pounding. He wasn't ready! Dammit.

"You never mentioned he was a service animal, Wade. Yes, that is unusual," The vet took the papers from Wade, frowning as he flipped through them. "Yes, he's been properly certified. By Dr. Gallahan, a very well-known pet specialist." So, at one point, Peter had passed certification. He had talked in the past.

"And he hasn't spoken the entire time you've owned him?"
beaarthur: (Before | umm...)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-01 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Wade instantly noticed Peter's discomfort. He looked away from Dr. Young and at Peter. His eyebrows knit together in worry. "It's okay, Petey Pie." He looked back at Dr. Young again. "Sorry, he's been like this all day. Ever since I said we were going to the vet."

"Sorry. That was something I probably should have done. I'm a first time pet owner with next to no knowledge about this, so I'm still stumbling around in the dark, doc. So he should be able to speak then? Does that mean he could talk at some point?" Wade just wanted to be clear. "No. He hasn't spoken at all."

Dr. Young got a weird look on his face for a moment as he looked at Peter. "Well his vitals are good and he seems very healthy, Wade. We can check his throat out and do some blood work to see if there's maybe some polyps on his vocal chords. Has he tried to talk at all? Or has he touched his throat a lot or show any signs of discomfort in that area?"

Wade shook his head. "No. Not at all. He's never tried to talk at all. He's been very sweet and quiet all this time. And he's never seemed like his throat was bothering him. That's why I just assumed..."

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-01 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"It's okay to be nervous," The doctor gave his best, calming smile, but and Peter ducked his head, tucking himself into Wade's side to hide from the vet. "Has anything been different to make him nervous? He hasn't been like this the past few visits, that I can recall."

"It's perfectly alright Wade, it's a very personal thing and neither of us had any reason to suspect there was a problem. He seems perfectly healthy but..." The vet gestured, somewhat confused, to the papers. "Yes, he should be able to speak. And he must have, in the past, to pass the certification."

"No, I assumed as well. There are many pets who never learn to speak. It has to do with the percentages of animal in their genetic line." Hence Vanessa's condescending tone regarding Peter. But the vet simply said it as a matter of fact, neither good nor bad. "Is it possible something happened to make him mute? Something traumatic? Perhaps before you took ownership of him."

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-01 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"A friend of mine and I tried to see if he could breed, but it didn't turn out the way she had hoped. That's the only thing that I can think of. It was a pretty traumatic event for him. I shouldn't have done anything." It still ate him up. He should have taken care of Peter.

"But that couldn't have made him mute because he was mute before. I don't know if there was anything traumatic. All I know is what happened after I got him, doc." Wade gave Peter a little protective squeeze. The thought of someone hurting him made him livid.

Dr. Young looked at Peter. "I see. It looks like there's nothing in the paperwork that could elude to that either."

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-01 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, yes. Peter has a very caring nature, but he's a trained service animal, not a stud. He's recognized you as his kin, Wade, it's only natural that he wouldn't want to breed." But, it was the mistake of a first time owner, and there was no judgement in the good doctor's voice.

The doctor crouched in front of Peter, trying to coax the cat to meet his eyes. "Peter? Do you think you could look at me? We're just trying to help." Peter had also never been a very shy animal, so it didn't make any sense for that to be the reason for his muteness.
beaarthur: (pic#10392603)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-02 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Just the thought of Peter's face and how scared he looked during that whole fiasco made his heart plummet. It was something Wade didn't know if he could ever forgive himself for. "I found that out the hard way. And what do you mean by kin?"

Wade's hand rubbed Peter's back soothingly, trying to make him feel safe and comfortable. "It's okay, Petey Pie."
spideyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-02 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)

"Service animals are trained solo. By which I mean they're not permitted to form lasting attachments with their trainer or other animals when they're being raised. Of course, Peter is intelligent enough to understand why. He could never properly care for you if he didn't love you as his own." The doctor scribbled something on his clipboard before looking back up at Wade. "You are his family, Wade. His mate, his kittens, his friend. He will never mate because he's already mated, in a sense."

Peter whined quietly, glancing up at Wade before he looked at the doctor. Pleadingly, eyes wide and worried. Don't blow it like this. The doctor stared back at him for a long moment before nodding minutely. "I see. Hm."

beaarthur: (Before | grin)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-02 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Wade said quietly, letting that information sink in. He looked at Peter, hand still petting his back soothingly. His heart felt full at the thought. He will never mate because he's already mated. Wade's heart did a funny thing and he felt something weird within him shift. The way he looked at Peter didn't feel so wrong or scary anymore. Huh. "I had no idea." Wade was at a loss for words now.

Wade noticed the whine, his hand immediately going up to Peter's hair to comfort him. "It's okay, Petey Pie."

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-02 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)

"It's hard to understand that kind of devotion sometimes. But I think you've done a wonderful job with Peter." The doctor complimented sincerely, watching as it sunk in for Wade.

"I want to see you back here in two weeks." The doctor is still staring at Peter as he says this. Gives his ultimatum. "Let me see what tests I can line up in that time." Even though Peter doesn't need them. Hopefully he'll speak before then.

beaarthur: (Before | thinking)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-03 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Dr. Young's words made him feel a little better. He felt like a bad owner most of the time. "I understand that devotion completely." What was weird was how that devotion was returned in full force. Wade absolutely felt the same.

"Alright, doc. We'll be back for sure." Wade just hoped that they could figure out what tests needed to be ran. Hopefully it was nothing bad. Maybe Peter was just really, really quiet. Wade could dream.
spideyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-03 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)

The doctor sends them on their way with a small smile; Peter's a good cat, and he's good at his job. Wade's first visit he was wary, more skittish than Peter; now he was talking freely, a lot less self conscious.

Peter was even more nervous as they left the doctor's office. Two weeks. He had two weeks to figure out how the hell to break the news that he could freaking talk to Wade, and he had no idea what to do.

beaarthur: (pic#10392599)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-08-03 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The drive home was quiet. Wade had a lot on his mind. And when they got home, he immediately went to take a shower. He spent a good 40 minutes letting the spray of the hot water pulse into his back while he let his mind wander. He couldn't stop thinking about how Dr. Young had said that Wade was Peter's kin. He will never mate because he's already mated. The words kept echoing in his head. It was weird how Dr. Young described it because that was pretty much how Wade felt about Peter. Peter was more than just his pet. It was nice to have words to describe how he felt now, but it was also a little confusing.

Wade got out of the shower and got dressed. The whole time, he kept thinking about how the guilt he had felt before was starting to wash away. He sat down on the couch with a loud sigh.
spideyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-08-03 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)

Peter let Wade go into the bathroom alone without complaint, worried about his own thoughts. But after twenty minutes, he sat outside the door, growing increasingly concerned. Wade had been very distant and upset for a while now and yeah - last night wasn't enough to convince Peter everything would be okay.

When he heard Wade getting out of the shower, Peter fled, retreating into the kitchen. It wasn't until Wade was seated on the couch that Peter made a hesitant appearance, sitting on the floor several feet away from Wade. He wasn't sure how he was feeling, and Peter was kind of walking on eggshells because of that.
