PET PERSON SHIPPING MEME!

PET PERSON SHIPPING MEME

>> premise

Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.

The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.

Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.

So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.

With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master!

>> how to play
Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies.

So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon.

Rules
Comment with your character and say whether they'd be a master or a pet. Ideally, they could be played as both. Mention what kind of each they'd be and what they'd be like, (ie: "Xx-chan is a bunny girl who is happy to please her master" or "Asterothia is a cat boy who is aloof but loyal to his true master"). For pets, be sure to include features ("wolf ears, tail, teeth).

REMEMBER, pet does not automatically equal submissive and master automatically equal dominant. This is not a BDSM setting though BDSM can be included. How far you want to go with the actual "pet" aspect is up to you, as well. Your pet could just be your slightly-furry roommate or soulmate!
Comment to others.
Play out the scene.

>> prompts
This by now means an all-inclusive list, but it should get you going in the right direction.

First Time Pet/Owner: Usually, pets are gotten at a young age; you're an old dog. Can you learn new tricks?
True Bond: What all masters and pets yearn for...the pet's loyalty and adoration for life.
Love: It's expected for masters to love their pets, but to love them? Romance is strictly forbidden.
Old "Couple": Master and pet have grown together and know each other. You know, know each other.
Loss of Master: The pet has lost their master, perhaps even their True Bond. Is it possible to move on?
Young Master/Older Pet: Pets age quicker than masters, so it's possible to end up with a bit of an "age" difference.
Family Pet: This pet's been raised as part of the family. What happens when their feelings for a family member get more than platonic.
For Your Protection: You don't want to be a master, but you have to take in a pet for their protection lest they be in danger from the general public.
Stray: You're a stray or a "Free." Can you live like this with your biology screaming for you to make a match?
Servant: You're more servant than pet.
All Sex, All the Time: The only purpose for this pet is to service the master, and not in a way that means cleaning their house.
Guard: You're a loyal bodyguard, a service pet. You'll do anything for your master. Anything.
Pet Play: This is for those who prefer to keep their animals on leashes, have them eat from bowls, and keep away from clothing.
Breaking In: Training is important with any pet.
In Love with Another Master...or Pet: To lust after another's master is no better than treason, and to wish to be with another pet just cruel!
Punishment: Bad dog, no nookie!
Heat: All pets go into heat, and it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of this problem. After all, unchecked dry humping kills thousands every year.
Breeding: Breeders know the best qualities in each type and mate the cream of the crop together to continue lines. It's a hobby for some, a calling for others.
Pregnancy: So, about that whole "hybrid" thing. It maaaay be more true than you think, even if pet/human pregnancies are the stuff of salacious tabloids.
Territorial: Hey, hey, other dog person! This is your apartment. Stay the fuck out!
Kennel: Kennels are where unadopted pets are kept. They're generally agreed to be depressing places. Why not volunteer at one, keeping the pets healthy and happy with the kind of affection only humans can show?
Rebelling Against the System: Damn the Man! Pet people are people, too! Just be careful not to get talk. You know what happens to bad pets.
Instant Attraction: You ever just look at someone and know they're the one? That they're...your master? But what if you've been trying to fight it? Well, don't try!
Dominant Pet: You might be the pet, but you call the shots, at least in the bedroom.
Pet Show: Everyone wants to show off how perfect their animal is. Look at that ass! And you'll never believe their special skills...
Therapeutic: Pets, especially those bred for their kindliness, are perfect therapy for those who've been through trauma and heartache.
Jealousy: Who's that around your master? Oh, hell no. They better not be touching them!
Petting: Pet people are absolutely gaga for being touched. Even the most steely ones turn to mush for rubs.
Games: Playing with your pet and giving them exercise is a key to happiness. Of course, with a pet person, you might want to use other toys instead of a ball.

"Yeah, you know, I was actually thinking about breeding Gwen. She's always so happy around other cats - " Vanessa laughed when Wade called out to Peter, brushing her hair back over her shoulder.

Meanwhile Peter looked up, eyes wide, and mewled pitifully as Wade yelled across the grass. Ohhh lord. He only got redder, sinking down into the grass.

Peter let his hands move over her back, tilting his head to let her scent him better. He didn't mind it; it'd been a while since he'd been around another cat who could appreciate him like that. And Gwen - she really did smell great. Though Peter had come to grow fond of Wade's scent, the way it clung to him. He nodded quickly, leaning up to brush his mouth against her ear, hidden by the curtain of her hair. "...can't."

If Wade had been drinking something, it would have shot everywhere. He still managed to choke somehow. "Oh?" he managed to squeeze out in between coughs. "Y-yeah. I mean. Petey really seems to like her." There was note of sadness in his voice, but nothing too evident. "He needs a friend. All he has is me." It was true. Peter needed to have more than him in his life so maybe this was good?

Gwen rubbed herself against Peter, absolutely tickled at how red he was getting. This cat was adorable. She would definitely be okay with having his kittens. Warmth filled her. Hmm. She shivered at his whisper. Oh. "You can't talk? I see." Gwen didn't get it, but that was fine.

She leaned forward, briefly pressing her nose against his affectionately.

Vanessa clapped him on the back with a small smile. "Yeah, I'd say so. He's so red! Poor thing. Gwen looks like she could eat him right up. She doesn't normally cuddle like that, so I'd say it's a good sign." She tilted her head, considering Wade for a second. "...and what about you? How are you doing? I heard you joined up, after graduation."

Peter tangled their legs together, tucking her close and looking up at the clouds. He nodded at her question, offering an apologetic smile. Still, he couldn't talk and she didn't seem to mind all that much. It was...kind of nice.

Peter gave her a little eskimo kiss and a chirrup in return.

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wade continued to cough, the last little tickle disappearing. "Definitely. I've never seen him like that any other time we've been here. Peter isn't usually interested in other cats and vice versa." Yet there he was, all red-faced in front of a lady cat. His gut was in knots. What the fuck.

His chuckle was bitter. "I did. I joined up and I came home with this lovely addition to my face," he gestured to the scars. Joking about it made him feel less like a giant deformity. He swallowed hard. "That's actually why I got Peter. He's a service animal. Best thing that ever happened to me." That bitterness disappeared in an instant, voice fond as he looked at the ground.

Oh, he was also incredibly comfortable. That was a big plus for him. Gwen liked to snuggle and if Peter couldn't talk, she wouldn't force words into the silence. So instead, she curled close, eyes closed. Nap time? Naps were good. The sun was warm on her back and it was perfect.

Gwen gave a little trill, ecstatic that he returned her affection.

"I guess I should probably give you my number then, huh?" Vanessa's smile turned a little more suggestive, not seeming to notice Wade's discomfort over Peter.

Vanessa took the cue to look openly then, for a moment. She didn't seem disgusted, mostly curious and sad. "I'm sorry. Thank you for your service. God, that sounds so pathetic, doesn't it? But I mean it, Wade, thank you." She touched his shoulder comfortingly. "That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard. Seems like he's doing a damn fine job."

Peter let his fingers run through Gwen's hair, marveling quietly at how soft it was, brushing against her cat ears. It really was quite a nice afternoon for this sort of thing. Peter could fall asleep here.
beaarthur: (Before | grin)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Wade barely noticed Vanessa mention her number, but he nodded. He was too busy watching how happy Peter looked. His feelings were a weird amalgamation of both happiness and sadness. And he didn't know why. Why was he so bothered about Peter getting to know this cat? This was what Wade had wanted, right?

"It's not pathetic, Ness." His hand covered hers, giving it a squeeze in thanks. His eyes drifted over her for a moment. She was still as beautiful as ever, eyes warm and full of life and a smile that could blind someone. Why had they ended it? Oh, they were dumb kids that moved too quickly. That was why. She had basically been the love of his life. He didn't get into anything long term after his relationship with her ended. But now that he looked at her, he was surprised. It wasn't as strong as it was before, that love he had held for her. There was a time that he thought he would never be able to live without her, yet here he was. Moving on.

"Oh, he is. If you could have seen me two months ago, you would've hated me. Having Petey around has kept me from a really horrible place. I don't know what I'd do without him. He's the best snuggle buddy. Gwen would be so lucky." If only his eyes could shoot daggers.

Gwen's head butted against Peter's fingers. She had no problem telling anyone how she wanted to be touched. So of course, she was going to let Peter know that he was petting her in just the right way. The tip of her tail flickered for a moment in happiness, thumping against Peter's leg.

Or what Wade was willing to pretend he wanted. And he'd never asked Peter in the first place, so he really didn't have anyone but himself to blame.

She smiled, turning her hand over in Wade's to hold it. Seeing Wade had done the opposite for her - a little spark, the hope of rekindling a flame from the past. Wade was a great guy, and to look at him now, how sweet he was with Peter - well, if her heart was fluttering a little thinking about it, he didn't have to know. Yet, anyway. She'd have to see how it went.

"I could never hate you," Vanessa glanced back over at the cats lounging in the grass. "We should set up a playdate. See how they react to each other. Gwen's Proestrus starts in a week or two. You'll have to find out about Peter."

Peter mewled and continued petting her, eventually turning his head to nuzzle and lick at her's.

Yup. That was right on the money.

Wade looked down at Vanessa's hand in his, not saying anything. He stared for a moment, gave her hand another friendly squeeze, but then he let go. It didn't feel right.

He smiled a little at the words. Vanessa was a tough lady, but she always had a soft heart. That was why he had fallen so hard back in the day. He thought she was everything he was looking for, but time had proved that wasn't the case. "Um... yeah. They really seem to like each other. I'm glad." Wade, stop lying. "Gwen's prowhatsis?" Wade was confused. He knew nothing medical about cats and that sounded medical.

Gwen purred and leaned into Peter hard. He made her feel safe and comfortable. It was nice. She basked in the attention, petting Peter's chest.
spideyguy: (24)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-07-13 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He let go her her hand, but she wasn't completely deterred. It was all too possible Wade just wasn't ready to let people back into his life and deal with the stress of it, and her heart went out to him in sympathy.

"Proestrus. It's basically her pre-heat. Depending on how she acts around Peter, we'll know if she would take him as a mate." Out of the two of them, clearly Vanessa had done her research. She didn't think it was odd, though - Wade had a male cat, and Peter certainly didn't look like an outdoor cat.

Peter gave another little chirrup of question, looking from Gwen back to Vanessa, who was holding Wade's hand. He...felt an odd twist at that, looking back to Gwen.
beaarthur: (AU Scars | look down.)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ahh..." Wade had no idea about any of that stuff. The only things he looked up or read about pertained to what Peter needed to eat and what he needed for comfort. Mating him with another cat had never come to mind. "Well, we'll have to see then. I bet that'll make him happy. He'll have a little kitty girlfriend."

Gwen looked up at Peter at the chirrup, trilling a little in echo. "What's wrong? My owner? I love her. She's great. Maybe our owners will start something together and we can spend more time together," Gwen said as she laid on Peter, smiling so hard her eyes were half moons. "My owner looks interested in yours, so you never know." She hadn't seen Vanessa this happy in a while.
spideyguy: (69)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-07-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Vanessa laughed warmly, pushing her hair behind her ear. "I'm sure it would. Cats are very tactile creatures." As Wade seems to know, considering it seemed like he spent a lot of time with Peter already.

Peter made a quiet rumbling noise, forcing a hesitant smile back at Gwen. That was really good, wasn't it? Wade spent a lot of time worried about his scars. His only friend was Weasel, and it certainly didn't seem like he'd had a girlfriend in a long time. So why was Peter...why did his gut feel so unsettled?

Peter chirped and bumped his nose against Gwen's, before nodding to their owners. Maybe they should go over and say hello.

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, that is one thing that Peter and I have in common," Wade laughed. It was true though. It felt like the majority of their time together was spent snuggling in some shape or form. He wasn't lying when he said Peter was his snuggle buddy. Which was perfectly fine with Wade. That was exactly what he needed to get better.

Gwen pushed into the nose bump, her face rubbing against Peter's in the process. She got up and stretched hard, tail going straight out and ears pressed back against her head. Ahh. Better. "Come on," she said as she reached out to help Peter up.

"How long have you had him?" The way Wade lit up when he talked about Peter was incredibly sweet. And yeah, Peter was totally on board with snuggling the ever loving shit out of Wade.

Peter took the offered hand, meowing and arching his back to stretch it out. Ah. He rumbled again, nudging Gwen and taking off towards their owners, as if to say, race you.

"About two and half months now? I don't know what I did before I had Petey. After I got discharged, I was in a pretty dark place and just in a couple of months, this guy has helped so much," Wade said with a huge smile. He hated that Weasel had been right, but Peter was worth admitting that to Weasel.

Gwen meowed back, brushing up against Peter happily. Her eyes glinted and then she was off, darting toward Vanessa as fast as her legs could carry her.

"That's incredible, Wade. You two seem really happy," Vanessa beamed back at him, making a note to look up therapy animals when she got home. It was probably safe to say Peter had some kind of PTSD training, but she was curious.

Peter pretty much launched himself into Wade's lap, landing with a "Mrreow!"

...if it had the added effect benefit of putting distance between Wade and Vanessa, well. Peter mewled and started rubbing his cheek against Wade's neck.
beaarthur: (Before | laugh)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's all thanks to Petey Pie." Wade couldn't articulately express just how important Peter was to him. So he settled for simple words and a stupid grin instead.

His face lit up when Peter flopped onto him cutely. wade's arms curled around him, hugging him tight. He laughed. "Well, hey there. You havin' fun?"

Gwen had managed to keep up with Peter when they were running, but she slowed down when they got to their owners. She sat next to Vanessa, her head rubbing against her owner's shoulder happily, tail curled around her leg. It was cute how much Peter and Wade clearly enjoyed being around each other.

Peter gave a little chirrup and started scenting Wade thoroughly, maybe even a little excessively, all along his jaw and neck. He enjoyed being held, making a happy noise when Wade's arms curled around him. Don't get him wrong, Gwen was really nice - it was nice to have a friend. But cuddling with Wade was...better, in a way.

Vanessa pet a hand down Gwen's back, smiling at the way Wade and Peter embraced each other. Yeah, she thought so too. Despite how hard the years had treated him, when Wade was with Peter, he looked like the boy she'd known and loved in high school.

Wade's eyes closed, basking in Peter's affection. He felt relieved now that Gwen wasn't all over him. Why did that bother him so much? He didn't get it. His hand pet through Peter's hair. "See? He's pretty great," Wade laughed. "Sorry, Ness. Got distracted." Wade grabbed his phone out of his pocket and went into his contacts. "Here. Put your number in? We'll get these two together again soon and see how it goes." His stomach did a weird flip.

Gwen sat quietly, eyes closed in comfort.

Peter rumbled happily when Wade praised him, rubbing his head against Wade's collarbone. He could smell Vanessa on Wade and...he really didn't like that. He wasn't going to examine why, he was just going to cover the scent...

He chirped and glanced up at Wade curiously. See how what went? Did...Wade mean him and Vanessa?

"Sounds good to me," Vanessa took the offered phone and typed in her number, absently scratching behind Gwen's ears with her free hand.
beaarthur: (Before | laugh)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Wade laughed. Wow. Even he could tell that Peter was extra affectionate right then. Though he didn't realize it was Peter covering up Vanessa's scent. He continued to pet Peter as he spoke to Vanessa. "Alright. Awesome. It was really good seeing you again, Ness. You look good. Life is treating you well." He grinned.

Gwen looked at Peter at smiled, leaning into her owner's touch. Hopefully that meant she would see Peter again soon.

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-07-13 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter nuzzled into Wade's fingers, coiling himself tightly on Wade's lap. Yeah he didn't plan on moving. He smiled back at Gwen; he really did hope he got to see her again, maybe play tag in the grass sometime. Bat around a mouse. Wade was great about playing with Peter, but he wasn't a playmate the way Gwen would be.

"You too. You seem like you're in a really good place, Wade." Vanessa clipped Gwen's leash on, leaning over to offer Peter her hand to sniff. "Hi there Peter. You taking good care of your master?"
beaarthur: (Before | grin)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Wade didn't stop the petting. He just kept on. It was something he didn't even realize he did anymore, almost like a nervous tic. It always calmed him when he was feeling anxious. Why was he feeling anxious now?

"I definitely am." Wade ran a hand down Peter's back, giving him a small pat on his lower back. He watched curiously as Vanessa reached out toward Peter.
spideyguy: (20)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-07-13 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter made a curious chirp noise, eyeing Vanessa almost warily. Which was...a little strange, considering he was usually so cuddly - and was clearly very comfortable with Wade. He sniffed her hand experimentally before reluctantly allowing her to pet him. Okay, so his basis for not liking her wasn't really stable at all. Let's not cross-examine it.

"What a pretty boy," Vanessa cooed, scratching lightly behind Peter's ears. They flattened against his head despite himself, and he coiled more firmly into Wade's lap. She backed off with a warm laugh. "Shy guy, huh? Oh he's so cute, Wade."
beaarthur: (Before | side look)

[personal profile] beaarthur 2016-07-13 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wade was usually pretty oblivious, but he immediately noticed the difference in Peter's approach to Vanessa. He eyed Peter curiously, hand still on his back still petting soothingly. Hopefully Peter would realize that Vanessa meant no harm.

"He's not usually this skittish. Maybe he's over-sensitized from being outside too much," Wade offered. Though Peter was never bothered before. This was just weird. Maybe they would stop and pick up food on the way home. A little extra love and comfort might help him feel better. "He's definitely a cutie."

Gwen watched curiously, her chin on Vanessa's shoulder. "He seems kind of shy, yeah."
spideyguy: (33)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-07-13 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter mewled and settled against Wade's chest. Yeah...that was a good explanation. Peter was just going to convince himself that was it because...well, the other option was too confusing and embarrassing. He let his tongue dart out, licking Wade's neck and settling with his head against Wade's chest, tail curling around his arm.

"Does he talk?" Vanessa asked, turning her head to smile and press a kiss to Gwen's cheek. She adored Gwen just as much as Wade adored Peter.
