Unusual Show of Affection

UNUSUAL SHOW OF AFFECTION
shipping meme

You don't have to give this person anything to prove you care. But maybe you want to; it's an easy way of letting them know your affection and telling them you're open to a relationship. If you're already with your love interest, a gift might just remind them of your feelings. Most would give flowers or chocolate or offer up a night of quality time or chores done. Those are the usual.

You're not usual yourself. Neither is the person you're with...or want to be with. You'll have to go for the unusual.

So whether it's building your crush a robot to ask them out, making your friend-or-possibly-more the best fifteen course meal they've ever had, or teaching your significant other to be the strongest ninja warrior, go big or go home. Or go where it's natural, given how unconventional you can be.

  • Comment with your character, canon, and any info. Be sure to include whether you want to play out an unestablished or established relationship, and what your character would give to another- ie, their gift, their gesture, service, skill, etc.

don't look at me

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-12 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
[The day started out innocently enough. Well, as innocent as anything Peter ever did - he showed up (using the spare key, honestly, you haven't moved it in years, Harry), seemingly out of the blue, and woke Harry up to watch the sunrise. Then it was breakfast, which Peter insisted on cooking for Harry all on his own - like that wasn't painful to watch.

Breakfast was followed immediately by a walk downtown, a cup of coffee, and Peter dragging Harry to watch a chalk artist in Times Square. They end up taking the long way to the Met, where Peter occupied Harry for most of the morning, showing far more enthusiasm than usual for paintings and sculptures.

Lunch, next, and Peter's back to tugging Harry along - this time, to Coney Island.

What's it all for, one might ask? If Peter's been successful in his venture, Harry won't have a clue. He hasn't mentioned it all day, so Peter's thinking they're still in the clear.]

Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. [Peter tipped an imaginary hat at the woman handing them their tickets for the game stalls lining the pier. It's pretty simple, all in all.

Today is Norman's birthday.]
goblinjr: (➥ Turn up the corners of your lips.)

i do what i want!

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-12 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[To Peter's credit, he was largely successful.

It wasn't that Harry had forgotten, but when Peter efficiently kept his attention from basically his waking moment, it was a lot harder for his mind to wander off to more depressing matters. The last thing Harry expected was to be woken up early and dragged all over the city, but he was pretty delighted. After all, Peter's company was always welcome, and it was a nice treat just to goof around all day and see stuff he enjoyed. It went by mostly unquestioned, although Harry couldn't help but poke fun at Peter's unusual enthusiasm for the various artwork of the day. Still, he didn't linger on it. He was just happy for a day off with his best friend; he imagined Peter probably needed it too.

On the whole, the only truly questionable thing so far had been Peter's cooking skills.]

[Harry nudged Peter as they wandered further in, a grin on his face as he watched a few people valiantly try their hand at a shooting gallery.] So, Genius-- you gonna show me how to outsmart the mini-games?

[He was mostly teasing, but he kind of wouldn't put it past Peter to know the science behind rigged games and how to counteract it.]

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-12 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[When was the last time they'd had a whole day, just the two of them? Peter had even coordinated it with Bernard, making sure Harry's schedule was clear so they could hang out. Look at that, he's even being legit! And Peter's trying - trying so hard to keep both of them from thinking about it, that it almost feels like before, way back when the worst problem they had was the history paper due Monday.

Peter raised a challenging eyebrow, gesturing to one of the stalls with a wide variety of stuffed animals.]
Pick one, and it'll be yours.

[It's less science and more ridiculous reflexes, but shh, what's the point in having powers if you can't fuck around once in a while?]
goblinjr: (➥ Ease my troubled mind.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-13 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Too long. No doubt Bernard loved that; he was always gently encouraging Harry to get out of the house. Harry... tended not to listen most of the time; there didn't seem like much of a point half the time. But this? This was bliss.

Returning Peter's challenging eyebrow with one of his own, Harry lifted his chin.]
Huh-- alright, show-off. Let's see what you've got.

[...And honestly, it'd be funny to see the person working the game get annoyed if Peter proved himself to be a wizard at it. Harry truly had the best motives. He brought a fist to his chin in mock thought as he considered his choices, then pointed at a goofy looking snake with obnoxious colors.] How 'bout that one?
spideyguy: (27)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-13 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[He was suspiciously excited. As excited as Bernard ever got, which, for as long as Peter had known him, was more of a quiet dignity. Still, though, Harry seemed like he was having fun, even if Peter did get a pillow or two thrown at him for waking his friend up at the asscrack of dawn.

Peter grinned and approached the stall, laying down three tickets for three rings to throw at the bottles.]
If it's what you want. We can always come back for the ridiculously huge one.

[Peter cracked his knuckles, clearly about to make a big show of the whole thing. Lucky Harry, with the front row seat to Peter's buffoonery.]
goblinjr: (➥ Like slow spinning redemption.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-13 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
[And without warning! Harry may have quickly forgiven him, but Peter deserved those projectile pillows.

Harry followed him over to the stall, laughing.]
What would I even do with it? Hang it over my upstairs banister? [Just imagine: you're walking through the beautiful and intricately designed Osborn manor when suddenly! A huge colorful snake stuffed animal appears, dangling over the railings amid some fancy vases. At least the smaller one Harry could keep in his room or something without it being in the way.

Oh dear. This ought to be good. Harry was already rubbing at the bridge of his nose, hiding a smirk.]
Don't miss.
spideyguy: (58)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-13 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
For a week, at least. Oh, come on! [Peter would certainly get a kick out of it. So would Harry! Could it really hurt to have something to smile at every time you walked past it?] We could name it and everything.

[That's an even better idea, having to explain the cheap stuffed animal snake on his bed, especially if there was someone in Harry's room in the first place.]

Wow, so encouraging. [Peter lined up the first shot, taking great care to miss, aiming for a different bottle entirely.] ...shit.
goblinjr: (➥ Take me high and I'll sing.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-13 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, no... And it's not like business ever really dropped by for him to have the excuse that it would be embarrassing. Harry tipped his head back, pretending to be exasperated even though he was warming up to the idea.] And how do you suggest we carry it around, huh? Pretty sure they wouldn't let us lug it around on any rides.

[He clapped a hand on Peter's back-- nice try, man.] I said don't miss, bud. [No, okay-- he can be encouraging!] You got this! Just pretend you're playing for a new chemistry textbook.

[Is that motivating or does that make him want to ring toss at Harry's head?]
spideyguy: (39)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-13 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peter was perpetually annoying like that, until you developed a low level of stockholm syndrome and agreed with him.] We tie it around your neck, like an ascot. No one will mind, probably. This is New York, you think people haven't seen stranger?

I've still got two more tries. [Peter smirked, ready to watch Harry's face when he landed it.] Would you believe I like biology more than chemistry? Not all nerds are the same, Harry, stop stereotyping.

[Peter made a big show of lining up the shot, letting it go and landing it right on the bottle. He raised an eyebrow at Harry, then immediately tossed the last ring without looking, landing that on the bottle, too. Show off.]
goblinjr: (➥ Don't waste another day.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-14 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Harry tried so hard not to crack a smile and with little success.] An ascot? [That's where he draws the line. Ties, yes. Ascots, no. But he eventually caved with a disbelieving laugh. It would be kind of nice to have something to smile at every time you went through the hall.] Fine. We'll get the big one and I'll put it on my banister if you win.

You sure? 'Cause you all sound the same. [Juuust kidding.

He promptly ate all of his teasing words anyway, and whatever head-shaking he'd been doing while Peter was hamming it up quickly stopped. Such a show-off, but it totally worked. The second shot impressed Harry, sure, but it was the last one that earned some pretty delighted awe.]
Peter, you made it! That was awesome!
spideyguy: (89)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-14 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! They're all the rage. [Now Peter's going to try to get Harry to dress up as Fred from Scooby-Doo. You've got to have goals in life, right?] Ohh you're so on.

Wait, what other nerds are you talking to? [Peter mock-gasped, clutching his chest.] There can only be one! Time for the cage match.

[The expression on Harry's face was so worth it.] We couldn't walk away with you smirking at me. Come on, claim your prize.
goblinjr: (➥ Like slow spinning redemption.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-14 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Do you see anyone wearing an ascot? [Harry gestured around him at the various people wandering by. Why, Peter. Why. That's a terrible goal. Because if you make him be Fred, he'll make you be Velma. Skirt and all.]

I work with a whole fleet of them. You'll take out the entire company if you do that! Have a little mercy, will you?

Alright, alright-- you proved me wrong! All hail the great Peter Parker, king of ring toss. Happy? [He gave him a light shove to the shoulder, grinning.] Nothing says that wasn't luck, but for now... you're victorious. [But Harry did get his oversized stuffed snake and draped it over his shoulders - without tying it, thank you.] Gaudy colors, a goofy look on its face-- I love it!
spideyguy: (19)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-14 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
We're not in the right district. Head East a few blocks and you'll find them. [Don't ask why Peter knows this. It's a long story he isn't sure he'll be able to lie his way through.

Watch them both bluff each other into going to a gay bar on Halloween, dressed like that. ALSO - uh, if Harry is Fred, Peter has to be Daphne?? Obviously.]

No, there can only be one.

[Peter bowed and waved to an imaginary audience, grinning as Harry picked out his ridiculous snake.] What, you want two of them? That can be arranged, Harry.
goblinjr: (➥ Turn up the corners of your lips.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-14 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's unfortunate for Peter, because Harry is just giving him a look. Questioning with an edge of humor.] And you know this how, exactly?

[Oh god, that'd be a misadventure and a half. That's true! And Peter's even got the secretly-a-total-asskicker thing going for him there, too.]

Wow, Pete. Greedy, much? [He laughed.] I mean, technically you are the only one. You're the only nerd I can listen to without falling asleep. [A beat.] Like, at least... 60% of the time?

No, I don't need another one! [Harry lifted his chin, still grinning. He's gotta do it. He's gotta be a jerk.] Besides. I wouldn't want you to embarrass yourself after that run of awesome luck.
spideyguy: (27)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-15 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of things, Harry. [He's just going to...not look Harry in the eye. So Spiderman happened to frequent the more LGBTQ+ area of Queens. That was where the most crime was, which was, honestly, kind of sad.

To be fair, it would probably be a wicked party. And Peter could pull off the wig, no problem.]

No, greedy would be stamping you, 'Property of Peter Parker, nerds beware'. [Peter laughed at the idea of Harry listening to one of his tangents without wanting to brain himself.] Wow, I'm honored. What a high success rate.

Oh ho ho, you think I'd embarrass myself? Put your money where your mouth is, Osborn, pick another stuffed animal.
goblinjr: (➥ Fly forever; don't let me go.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-15 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't doubt it, but that's... really specific knowledge. [Just saying, man. And you're totally dodging him, he can tell.

Peter would make an adorable redhead.]

It's only a matter of time. You're clearly out of control. [Harry sighed dramatically, as if burdened by it.] No, you totally should be. I try to run whenever they drag me off to demonstrations at work. But for you? I don't run. [Instead, he just groans and complains loudly. He held his arms up in a W-shape, shrugging.] It's the little things.

Oh no, you get this one. I've got my snake. [He wiggled the tail of it obnoxiously at Peter's face.] I just wanna see you try to pull that off again.
spideyguy: (18)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-15 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
What can I say, I'm a fount of useless knowledge. [There's only so much lying he can do before it crashes around him, sometimes he has to be shifty.

Imagine him in the go-go boots. The go-go boots.]

You want out of control? I'll show you out of control! I'll pull a Britney! [He'd never shave his head. On pain of death.] Aw, it's almost like I've domesticated you.

Hm - I should get a matching one, huh? [Instead of friendship bracelets they have matching snakes. How fitting. Peter's going to get the atrocious pink and orange one, though, because they still had to have character.]
goblinjr: (➥ That devilish smile on your face.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-15 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
That's for sure. [Eventually your shiftiness and lying are going to fail you, Peter. But for now, it's enough to get Harry just to eye him a little bit before letting it go. For now.

Oh god. A truly amazing sight to behold.]

Whoa-kay, calm down, turbo. It's cool, we don't need to go that extreme! You're the one true nerd, alright? [That earns a good laugh, head tipping back and everything.] After all this time, I know better than to try and run from you.

In theory, I'd say 'hell yeah', but... y'know. I'm trying to be a good buddy and not get your hopes up. [Except that was the opposite of what Harry was doing; he's just 150% egging him because he totally wants to see that shit again.]
spideyguy: (39)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-15 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Good god, if anyone ever came to the wrong conclusion, that he was closeted or something of the like, Peter would just about die. And also probably go along with it, because what the hell else is he supposed to say?

It'd make his legs look amazing.]

At least you acknowledge it. [Peter grinned, feeling that familiar, pleased feeling, when Harry laughed, sounding so free.] He's learning!

You really need to have more faith. [Peter only slapped down one ticket for one ring. See, he's so confident he can do it he's not even going to get more than one try.]
goblinjr: (➥ A light to shine the way.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-15 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Peter. The things you get yourself into. You could just tell them the truth. You're going to end up with so many weird lies and half-lies and inconsistencies that eventually someone's gonna figure it out.

Harry would be a goner for sure.]

You were gonna go nuts if I didn't. It was for the greater good! [Another helpless shrug.] What can I say, sometimes I even surprise myself.

I have plenty of faith! That you're full of shit, that is. [Oh, wow-- look at that! Hard mode initiated. Harry will watch attentively.] Oh, making it extra interesting, huh? Okay, Pete-- but if you mess up, one try is all you get. That's the rule.
spideyguy: (3)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-15 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[It wasn't that hard to figure out, if you followed the strings. Tug hard enough and the whole thing came undone. Peter was riding on trust, and it was quickly drying up.]

Don't try to downplay it, Harry, you said I was your one and only. No take backs.

Yeah, and when it turns out you're full of it? What are you going to do? [Peter picked up the ring, considering it, smirk tugging at his mouth.] Your world is about to implode, Osborn.
goblinjr: (➥ The trees are green again.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Which begs the question: how long would Peter be able to juggle interacting as both himself and Spider-Man with Harry before slipping up?]

Alright, alright, don't get all threatened. [He laughed, holding his hands up teasingly.] Of course you are. No one else even comes close.

I'm sure I won't be, but if you can do this, I'll-- [Considering, considering.] I won't make fun of you for the rest of the day. If I say anything about you, I can only speak in compliments. How's that? [He will actually implode trying not to poke fun at Peter; it might just even be physically impossible for him.] Uh-huh. We'll see, Captain Ego.
spideyguy: (18)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-16 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Ha. Don't ask questions he doesn't have the answers to. He's already in it, deep.]

Woah, is that even physically possible? I don't actually want you to hurt yourself. [Peter is going to love watching Harry struggle his natural tendency to prod Peter with a stick.] I literally just won you that snake! How is that ego-tastic?
goblinjr: (➥ That didn't go as planned.)

[personal profile] goblinjr 2016-06-16 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I can be nice! [Harry was a fellow sassmaster, only less witty by comparison and he didn't always know when to shut up. That meant impulsive snarking. Trying not to do that was going to be Something Else, no doubt.] I can do it. You just worry about your little ring toss.

You bragged the entire time! [Rightly so, but that's besides the point.]
spideyguy: (27)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-06-16 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oho, color Peter excited.] I feel like you should be the one worrying, Harry.

Eternal bragging rights, here I come. [Peter quirked an eyebrow, lining up the shot ever-so-carefully. Aaaand - wow, would you look at that. A simple flick of his wrist and they'll be getting a second giant snake, thank you very much.]
