Hell is empty;

ʙᴏᴛʜ ɪɴ ʜᴇʟʟ

Of all the places in this world, there's nowhere worse you could be than where you are now. You're in hell - metaphorically or literally - and laying down and just dying seems more and more like the valid action to take. But you can't go any lower and death could be a no escape. There's only one thing keeping you from being a jaded, broken husk: you've fallen in love with someone who shares this fate. It's a love so different than the norm, that only those who've known this desolation can fathom. Perhaps they give you hope, they're an innocent worth keeping safe, they showed you unexpected kindness, or they're simply something to cling to. No matter what, you'll protect them and you wouldn't dream of leaving this place without them. They will leave, though...

...even if you don't.

Hydra had made several mistakes, these past couple of years. Sending the original Winter Soldier in to kill Captain America wasn't their best move, and while it was a serious loss, it had by no means crippled the organization. Their roots were spread far, deeply entrenched, especially in Russia and the majority of Asia. Underground facilities simply went deeper to wait out the storm that was sure to roll out over the world - when it was done, they'd still survive.

One such facility was thriving 30 miles outside of Yakutsk, accepting the leftovers from other Hydra facilities as they started to shut down and scatter. The experiments were sorted into two categories - keep or kill. Most were discarded into the kill pile without a second glance; their tests had not proved profitable, and they could always find new subjects.

Peter was a relatively new acquisition, pumped full of drugs and strapped to solid concrete. An accidental product of Osborne's attempt at the super soldier serum, he still had potential, and was still viewed as Hydra property. It had taken little effort to snatch him unsuspectingly from Queens and ship him across the ocean. A shame they hadn't had the chance to run proper experiments on him yet, with the good Captain's interference. This would change soon.

Tony Stark hadn't had the good fortune of ending up in the kill category. Hydra refused to do it, actually, because they knew what leverage they had with him. He was a Stark. He was an Avenger. He was Iron Man, and killing him in some place underground just wouldn't cut it.

That didn't mean they didn't have their fun with him, though. They tried to pump him for information; about SHIELD, about the Avengers, about his company. They had ears everywhere in the world, but they still wanted more, and they wanted to use him for it. Tony never gave them anything other than smartass remarks and quips that generally earned him more punishment than satisfaction, but apparently this was his new lot in life. He wanted to believe that the team would be here soon, that they would find him and take him home, but...no luck. He had no idea how long he had been missing for already, he didn't know if they were still looking, but it felt like a lifetime since he had last been home.

Now, this was home. His body was scarred from old injuries, and there was a disc embedded into his skin that was frighteningly similar to the arc reactor that used to reside in his chest. Except, this particular disc didn't keep him alive; instead, it was used to punish him. It'd send a jolt of electricity throughout his body - sometimes it was short and quick, other times Tony was left borderline catatonic for a moment before his senses began to filter back in. They wanted to break him, find a way to make him comply and even force him to help him, and shocking him whenever they wanted was their solution. We'll make it stop if you cooperate, they'd taunt him, but Tony just tried his damnedest to try to hold on.

It was hard, though. The last few nights he had barely slept, the disc coming to life at the most random times to force him to stay awake, and right now that was what woke him up. The shock was sudden and unexpected, literally jolting him awake so violently that he could only thrash for as long as it lasted, and when it stopped he could only stare up at the ceiling of his cell as he tried to get his heartbeat back to normal. His whole body seemed to hate the idea of moving, and he groaned as he rolled onto his side as he lay on the floor, and that was when he noticed it. The kid, and how he was strapped, and...

Shit. Tony had seen so many people pass by this place that it was almost becoming an old routine, but he wasn't used to seeing someone so young. He tried to force himself to sit up, but his body still felt foreign and like it was buzzing from the electricity so he could barely prop himself up with his elbow as he tried to see if he was awake.

Hydra was good at the torture thing. Then again, they did have their origins with the Nazis. Peter hadn't had much time to come to grips with that - if they let him wake fully, in the current transportation restraints - he'd break out in a heartbeat. He was lucky in the sense that scars healed, but it just made them more likely to be worse the next time.

He wasn't awake, wouldn't have been for a while, but Tony's violent zap had alarmed something in his brain, and his body kicked into overdrive. It took a moment, chasing the drugs out of his system in a sense of self-preservation, but it was enough to get his eyes to fly open. The restraints creaked, concrete cracking under his fist, but he was still too far under to break out completely.

"What - who - fuck - " He stopped struggling on the concrete, if only to breathe, disoriented, senses ringing. His mouth felt like cotton, body weighed down by an unknown element. He tilted his head enough to see the top of Tony's, and he drew his knees up a little, heels chipping off the concrete underneath them. "Who's there?"

Okay, good, he was awake. Tony felt his body sag a little in relief, but he couldn't afford it; suddenly it felt like he was falling, and he had to reach for the nearest wall to stabilize himself.

It didn't matter, though. If Tony had seen correctly, the way the kid's fist cracked the concrete was good. Maybe he'd break away. Then again, maybe that'd be worse because Hydra took great pleasure in punishing anyone that didn't comply; his collection of bruises, cuts, and scars were enough proof of that.

"Someone else in the same shitty situation as you," he responded once he was able to find his voice. It still sounded hoarse and rough at the edges - the exhaustion and pain making it impossible to make him sound like his old self, but Tony wasn't sure if he even remembered anymore what that sounded like. "I'm Tony."

He'd ask if he's okay, but Tony assumed to know the answer to that already.

Peter blinked the bluriness out of his eyes, straining to see his cellmate. He sounded American, though, which brought a rush of comfort to him. No particular accent, but then, unless you had a very specific one it was sometimes difficult to discern. "Do you know where that is?"

Peter finally dropped his head back onto the concrete slab, staring up at the ceiling. Nothing but darkness and metal. He'd bet they were underground, with the draft coming in through the metal cell door. "Peter." He'd say nice to meet you - really, he was raised properly - but it doesn't feel appropriate.

"Did - what was that noise?" He's talking about the disc, still trying to figure out what woke him. The adrenaline is receding and, with no present threat, it wasn't enough for his body to continue fighting the drugs. Still, at least he was awake now (or perhaps it would have been better if he stayed asleep).
im_ironman: (pic#10193538)

[personal profile] im_ironman 2016-05-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sadly, no. Somewhere underground, I'm sure. That seems to be the usual MO for these people."

Not to mention that, with his past experience, he can only picture a cave even if there's no dirt or rocks or sand everywhere like there had been in Afghanistan. Its just the default his mind goes to, and by now somewhere underground is the only reason he can accept as to why his team hadn't found him yet.

Peter's voice pulls him out of his thoughts before he can venture too much into them, and he gives a slight nod in greeting even if it's pointless. It's not like the kid can see it, but he's just tired. For someone that had never been a fan of sleeping, suddenly that's all he wants.

"The-- Oh." For a second Tony had thought Peter was talking about noise coming from the hallway, or that he heard someone approach the cell block they were in, but...the noise. Right.

"It's their version of a shock collar." His voice sounds almost detached, as if he's talking about something else altogether. Which is probably a sign that he has been here too long; it almost feels normal. He touches the edge of the punishment disc, but immediately lets go when it lights up, as if preparing to shock him again. Because that was their fail safe; the damn thing was ready to light him up like a Christmas tree if he tried to take it off himself.

And yes, he had learned the hard way.

"These people. Who are...?" He didn't mean to be annoying, tried to ask his questions as gently as possible to avoid doing so, but frankly he didn't know much about where he was. He thought all he had to worry about was the regular host of supervillains that adorned his life, now there was an entire organization keeping them captive?

"Aw crap," Peter sighs and flexes his hands against the steel restraints. They creak, but he's too weighed down to really try. Still, slowly working on them was better than nothing. "That's barbaric." He'd help him get it off if he could. Maybe pulling it off fast enough would work. Hurt like a bitch, but at least it would be off?

"Why'd they take you?" He can feel goosebumps rising on his arm from the cold, and Peter listens down the hall for any signs of guards. Nothing but a few weak heartbeats. At least Tony's is pumping along, maybe a little thready, but that was probably from the stress of the electric shocks.

It was hard to mind questions when he's finding himself relieved to realize that he can actually talk to someone else that isn't trying to torture him, so Tony didn't mind it when Peter kept talking. "Hydra. Big evil organization..."

Tony glanced over at Peter then, as if to figure out why he had been dragged here. The way the concrete had cracked with his strength let him know that clearly he wasn't a regular human being, but he wondered if there was some other reason why he was captured.

That's barbaric. Peter's comment makes a wry smile tug at his lips but it doesn't last very long. Yeah, well. Hydra was pretty barbaric.

"They want me to work for them. I don't like their, uh...negotiation techniques, so they're trying to convince me." A shiver runs along his spine, violently enough that it feels like his whole body feels it, but he just clenches his jaw shut for a moment before speaking again. "They want an Avenger on their team, apparently."

He glances over, taking in the creaking of the restraints. "Are you actually able to break out of those?"
spideyguy: (Talking)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-05-11 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hydra." Peter wracks his brain, trying to connect the dots. Wait, wasn't there a huge dump of SHIELD files? He hadn't looked through many of them - just a few, out of curiosity, since the whole thing was splashed across the news. But then, obviously, he'd been nabbed, so -

"They're doing a great job. Really, their hospitality is off the charts." Peter would raise his voice and be an antagonistic shit if there were guards around to hear him. "Should have a show on HGTV. My Aunt would love it."

"Avenger?" And again his brain is working to catch up with his body. Is he healing from a concussion? Even he can figure it out, though, putting the name Tony with the word Avenger. "Well shit. Hiya neighbor. I'm from Queens. Odds, huh?"

He's hesitant to admit it, but the restraints creak again when he fists his hands, and Peter gives a short, jerky nod, raising his head to glance at Tony. Secret identities don't mean shit when you're in some creepy Hydra dungeon, so whatever. It's not like it can get worse. "They drugged me. But once it burns out of my system I'll be able to crack it."
im_ironman: (pic#10193530)

[personal profile] im_ironman 2016-05-12 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
A soft chuckle that sounds more like a huff of breath escapes his throat at Peter's sarcasm. It reminds him of the smartass replies he'd often throw out at the guards, which is both concerning and a relief. Concerning because Tony had months of experience with this, and he already knew the punishment that Peter would probably suffer for his attitude. But relief because he'd be tough to break.

He just hoped it wouldn't get to that part.

Like Peter, Tony finds himself in the same predicament of trying to decide if he should say 'nice to meet you,' all things considered. But, before he can decide, the creaking of the restraints makes him look over at him again as his brow furrows slightly. Could it be possible that Peter could actually break out?

Could it be possible that he might actually be able to leave?

His eyes glance towards the door that would lead the guards into the cell block, as if trying to make sure no one is coming. "Be careful. If they discover you're even trying to break out, they'll make it worse for you."

Hey! He got the closest thing he was going to get to a laugh. That counts for something, right? Maybe he's tapping into a little Spiderman bravado, at this point, because this was too much for a regular teenager to take. Hide your pain with constant quips, yessiree. Peter also shared the 'don't know when to quit' syndrome. It didn't help that his healing was able to outlast the debts made by his loudmouth.

"They've got to know this won't hold me. I mean, why else would they take me?" He's brainstorming now, but for the life of him, there's nothing else besides being Spiderman that could have gotten him in this situation. Sure, he's Richard Parker's son, but he hadn't known his father. That avenue of questioning would prove fruitless.

"...what exactly do they want you to do for them?" Besides the whole Avenger thing, Tony Stark was a genius. So what was the ultimate play? What was the bigger picture? It was extremely frustrating not to have all the pieces.

"Then they want you to try to get out of here so they can show you that you can't."

Again, he had learned that the hard way. There was something haunted in his voice that makes it clear that he has seen and lived more than he'd be willing to share, but he was trying to prepare Peter in case the guards came in. Tony hadn't had that luxury when he had first arrived.

"They haven't given me all the details." He swallowed hard to get rid of the knot in his throat, but it didn't quite work. "I think they thought I'd cave sooner, but they didn't count on how stubborn I am."

Which, yeah, he was proud of that, but it was also said a little wryly considering how much grief his stubbornness had brought him so far. It was better than giving up, though.

"Do you remember anything of when you were taken? Did they say anything?"

"They're stupid to provide an opportunity, however 'faked'. I can get out. We will." Peter added, tilting his head towards Tony. Maybe he wouldn't be able to take the other poor bastards he could hear down the hall, but he'd get Tony out with him. The tone of his voice says more than words could, and Peter's fists clenched again, rubbing a little more cement away into dust.

"What if," Peter started slowly, thinking it through. "What if you did? Cave. Just enough to find out what they're after, I mean."

It was comforting to have somebody there that hadn't broken. It gave him a sort of bitter hope, and Peter dug his fingers into his palms. The more he kicked in his healing ability, the faster the drugs would worm their way out of his system.

"I was on my way home from school. There were...tranquilizer darts. I caught the first one - " Literally plucked it out of the air, senses blaring. "But the second and third were too fast and I went down."

We. The word was impossible to miss, and he had to fight back the surge of hope that he suddenly felt. Could the kid actually do it and get them both out? He really didn't want to get his hopes up in case they wouldn't, but he had been locked up for so long that he couldn't help but actually want his plan to work.

"They asked me questions for a while. Wanting me to sell out my friends, tell them what I knew about them. Whatever it is they're after, they want me to help them destroy them. I won't do that."

Hell, he didn't even want to contemplate the idea of it. It made him feel sick just thinking about it.

Turning towards Peter's direction again, and he shook his head. "They're tricky bastards. How... How old are you?"
spideyguy: (36)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-05-22 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter definitely thought it was possible. At full strength - if he could hide it, pretend not to be so they wouldn't dope him up again - breaking out of the restraints wouldn't take terribly much. He had no idea what other fortifications lay beyond their cell, though.

"So, pinnacle of all evil. Got it. What's burning their ass, anyway? World domination? So 2008."

Peter let out a breath, relaxing except for the tight fists. He should probably stop chipping away at the concrete if he wanted this to work. "Smart. They knew what they were doing."

"Nineteen. Almost twenty, in a few weeks." It struck him that he had no idea how long he'd been out. Perhaps his birthday had already come and gone. The idea of Aunt May, alone on his birthday, twisted his stomach into a firm knot.
im_ironman: (pic#10117314)

[personal profile] im_ironman 2016-05-22 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I said they're tricky bastard, not necessarily smart bastards. World domination definitely seems to be their thing."

From what he could see and what he knew, anyway. Although he was lying about the smart part - they were cunning enough to obviously figure out ways to trap him, and to try to force him into complying. The punishment disc was proof enough of an invention that he had never seen before.

Peter's age made his attention snap back to him, though. Whether it was nineteen or twenty, he was still technically a kid, and Tony felt his stomach turn. "So. Getting out of here. What do you need? Is there anything I can do to help you get out of here?"
spideyguy: (91)

"Ugh, gross. Sorry, don't want to join your boyband." Peter glanced towards the cell door, but he didn't hear anyone down the hall. How often did they come around? They'd have to figure it out to time their escape properly.

It was pretty awful that their most intelligent designs were all torture/world subjugating devices. But that was only to be expected from an organization that rose from the ashes of the Nazis, who industrialized death.

"Honestly?" Peter turned his head back to Tony, straining to see him. "You could come over here and start breaking my fingers."

"Should kick my healing into gear. That'll chase the drugs out of my system faster. You'll have to set them, though, like right after you break them, or it'll fuck up my hand."
im_ironman: (pic#10193543)

[personal profile] im_ironman 2016-05-23 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
The paranoid side of Tony almost wanted to snap at Peter to be quiet, tell him that they would hear them, but he had to pause at the realization. Shit. Was he that far gone that there was a twinge of fear that had started to settle in?

They really needed to get out of there as soon as possible.

His thoughts halted when he fully registered what Peter had said, though. Was he...

"Are you serious? You want me to break your fingers?"

Practicality told him to do it. No questions asked, he had to do it if that was their fastest solution on getting out of there. But he couldn't help the way that his mostly empty stomach felt like it dropped, because after being tortured for so long, it felt absolutely and completely wrong to suddenly have to be the one that does it.

"I didn't say it would be pleasant." Peter sighed, relaxing against the concrete slab again. He's lucky they didn't turn him upside, or this would be taking even longer than it already was. Seriously, did they use horse tranquilizers or what?

Tony had every right to be afraid of more pain, hell, just look at the demonic disc implanted in his chest. It wouldn't be a breeze getting that off, either.

"It's a lot less messy than punching me in the face?" Peter offered some semblance of a joke. "Look, my healing factor is really ridiculous. Just needs a jump start."
im_ironman: (@ easystreet)

[personal profile] im_ironman 2016-05-25 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Tony gave him a look when he pointed out that breaking his fingers would be less messy, but he sighed under his breath as he chewed the inside of his cheek in thought. Because the logical side told him to do it just do it, if this would help them get free then why not, right? It just felt wrong to hurt the kid, and it sure as hell didn't help that he wasn't sure if the disc was going to allow him to move further than a couple of steps from his spot in his side of the room. A few weeks ago his captors had found a way to shock him after trying to move towards the door, and he wasn't sure if the disc was tied to a sensor that would go off again if he moved.

But, shit, they had to try. Right? Worst thing that could happen would be them getting stuck down here longer, which they already were, anyway.

"Fine. But if for some reason it's not working, let me know at once and I'll stop. Okay?"

Without waiting for an answer, and probably more than a little jittery, he stood and began walking towards Peter. Tentatively at first, as if expecting the disc on his chest to zap him, but...nothing. Okay, small favors. Once he was closer to Peter, he tried to first remove his restraints, but sure enough they were too strong for him especially in his current condition so he sighed under his breath. "Alright, kid. You ready?"
spideyguy: (30)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-05-25 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Deal." Peter hadn't had the oh-so-pleasant experience of getting to test the boundaries of Hydra's cruelty, but it was pretty evident from Tony's expression that he didn't like the idea of hurting Peter. They had to do what they had to do, though, whatever it took.

Who could have predicted an accidental discovery in his dad's briefcase would lead to all of this? How had they even found out about him? Perhaps it wasn't particularly hard, given what an awful liar he was, but he'd managed to keep the police off his trail for this long.

Peter smiled up at him, trying to look reassuring. It probably wasn't, especially in a gross dungeon, god-knows-where, bolted to a slab of concrete. "Ready. I'm more durable than I look, I promise."
im_ironman: (pic#10193806)

[personal profile] im_ironman 2016-05-25 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
He tried to smile as reassuringly as possible, but he wasn't sure just how good his efforts were. Deciding not to even check, Tony's eyes turned towards Peter's hands, trying to find the best angle to go about this. Something that would be fast and effective, because he really didn't want to try and break Peter's fingers over and over. It had to be fast and efficient.

With a small deep breath, Tony gave Peter's shoulder a small squeeze - both to apologize and to assure him it'd be done quick - before breaking a finger. The sound of the crack was sickening, and Tony's stomach felt like it twisted and turned painfully, but he was quick to set his finger as Peter had instructed. "How... Do you feel a change? Are you healing?"
spideyguy: (31)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-05-25 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
The smile was decidedly grim, and Peter wasn't sure he wanted to know how long Tony had been imprisoned there. It didn't bode well for what little future they might have left.

"Son of a bitch." Peter muttered, jerking involuntarily when Tony broke his finger. It's not that bad - really, he's had worse - but it was still jarring. The finger was set as quickly as it was broken, and Peter could feel it slowly start to knit back together. Good, but not enough. "Yeah, it's working. Sent a shot of adrenaline through my system."

"You know, when I'm at my peak I can heal from a gunshot wound in less than 48 hours." Peter chattered, as a means of distraction from what he was going to ask next. "I'm sorry but - again. Break another one. Please."
