Forced to Kill Meme

FORCED TO KILL
This meme could be triggery, so be warned

It's simple you see...
1 : Post as your character; include name and canon of course!
2 : Respond to other people; you are now forced to kill that person
3 : Reasons for being forced can be anything, threat, duty, whatever.
4 : How you kill them, be it knife, poison, strangulation, is up to you.
5 : Profit..?

[ooc: Oh that's perfect! *rubs hands* If the following doesn't work, let me know!]

If it wasn't for Tony, he wouldn't be here. Really, he wouldn't even be in the same city, never mind doing something he was immediately falling in love with all over again - lecturing. It had been Tony that had spoken to the university and offered them one of his specialists to give a talk on radiation, and only then told Bruce about it. That had started as an argument yet somehow... somehow Stark had talked him into it and he would have to admit to the other he was right. It felt easy to stand up before the small selection of students and talk, with a little help from his laptop and visuals. He had no idea that in a relatively short period of time, he would be in a fight for his life and so many others against the robot he was helping to create with Tony that was supposed to protect the world. This was much easier than the mess the rest of his life tended to be.

He gave a soft smile to the group as he wrapped off, offering to remain behind and answer any other questions they had. It'd gone well, he thought, and maybe he could make it a more regular thing. Teaching... it wasn't something he had really thought about in the past, but perhaps it would be a good line to look into. Tony wouldn't exactly be happy if it took time out of the lab, but he could point out it was Tony himself who had gotten him on that path at all. The smile on his lips grew as he imagined the exact expression Tony would have when he pointed out the irony of it. ...Then fell from his lips when he realized he was thinking too far ahead. Maybe the students wouldn't be so keen on what he taught today in his lecture, or how he taught it. Get through this, see where it went.

Taking a seat briefly behind the desk, he disconnected the laptop from the school's projector and started to shut it down, half-closing the lid to see when the familiar SI logo dimmed to dark on the back. Tony had been the one to quickly shove a laptop into his hands when he even suggested aloud it might be good to bring visuals to the lecture, and after a few minutes to get used to how Tony had set it up - given that the user interface and system was nothing on the market - it had been easy enough to work and he was more grateful for it.

When he noticed someone approaching from the corner of his eye, he lifted his head and the smile returned. "Hello."

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-04-11 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter started going to classes again about three months ago. It had been Christmas break for a while there, so he had some semblance of time to deal with Gwen's loss. It wasn't easy, it would never be easy, but Peter found that school was a pretty good distraction. Especially with his degree, getting lost in the math and science of everything. His career as Spiderman had started back up little less than a month ago, but it felt right. To continue in Gwen's honor, rather than fail in her absence.

The lecture today had been given by Dr. Bruce Banner, and Peter was completely captivated. He wouldn't say radiation was his favorite topic, but it was a very pertinent one (re: spiderbite), and one that, when combined with human ingenuity, could be extremely fascinating. Peter had to debate with himself for several minutes towards the end of class before he decided to go up and talk to Dr. Banner, but he did invite inquiries, so.

He doesn't want to seem too odd, so he doesn't bring the page of notes he'd been taking with him when he approaches the doctor, but he's still pretty obviously excited. "Hi. I'm sorry to bother you but I - I had a few more questions I don't think you covered in your lecture."
aggravated: (handshake 1)

[personal profile] aggravated 2016-04-11 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
To see someone excited about what he had just lectured about? That perked him right up. The smile grew and Bruce held out his hand. "Not a bother at all. I'd be glad to go over anything I didn't cover well enough." Really, if someone was interested enough to ask questions, he hoped it was from curiosity and less that he had failed to cover anything more, but this had been an experiment, in a sense. Find out how much he needed to cover without going over the hour he had been give and more so, without 'boring the tar out of them', as Tony had put it.

A handshake with Bruce was always interesting, if one paid enough attention. His hand was always quite warm, as if he had been holding a coffee in hand or had a fever running despite neither of those being true, but it wasn't so much as to be a drastic notice.
spideyguy: (Science)

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-04-11 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, no you covered it just fine I'm just fascinated by the whole thing." Peter explained quickly, taking Bruce's hand. Perhaps it was his excitement, but while Peter distantly clocked the warmth, it wasn't a red flag. At least, his spider senses weren't bouncing off the walls, so he felt fine shaking the doctor's hand. He did have to make the conscious decision not to crush his hand, though; his stature did not promulgate his strength.

"You talked about radiation as a side effect of nuclear experiments," Peter pushed his glasses further up the bridge of his nose, eyes bright. "And the potential for either radiation sickness or in some cases, super-powered abilities. I'm pursuing a biochemistry degree so I was just wondering - about the futures of radiation therapies, and whether or not there might be a way to predict someone's reactions to this type of exposure. In their, um, DNA."
aggravated: (laugh - just a chuckle)

[personal profile] aggravated 2016-04-11 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the sort of question he had been expecting! He had made sure to make mention of the whole concept, given the very fact there were known sources of such issues outside of himself, but had only briefly mentioned it given it hadn't been the focus of his talk. However, it had clearly clicked with this young man and if he was intent on such an area, no wonder it had. Bruce couldn't help how his smile grew, given that this was such a very unique area of study and Bruce would be difficult to think of someone who was looking into it. Good for this young man, then. Exploring the unusual. However, a small part of him practically went into red alert, given that it had been his own experiments in a mostly unknown area that had led to the path he was on now. No, stop it, Banner. Stop it. There were radiation therapies, in a a certain sense of the word 'therapy', in the form of chemo and the like.

See where it was going, first.

"Quite the question! Radiation sickness is going to be inevitable, unfortunately, though I think the degree can be drastically changed if care is taken and more study was put into the area. Super-powered abilities... well." He unconsciously mirrored Peter, shifting his glasses as well. "That's quite a different area all together. I would say yes, there are potentially markers within the DNA that could indicate as such, but it also falls into the same category of possibility more than certainty. Even if one finds such a marker, that's only potential. However.." He chuckled quietly, "to be honest, I haven't exactly had the chance to look at the DNA of those who have been changed, as rare as they are, to be certain of my theories."

Peter didn't mean to sound shady by any means, and hopefully his open expression conveys that. "I'm curious because - well, we all know what happened at Oscorp." Giant lizard, poisonous gas that almost altered a lot of people beyond repair, had the antidote not been sent out when it was. "But their studies were going somewhere, before that. If we could identify the gene, you could test a person before prescribing the treatment; and avoid transformation like that. Hypothetically?"

"It's incredible, the diversity we're seeing. I mean, is this a latent quality in all people; just unlocked later in life, as opposed to being born that way, like mutants?" And how did you prevent people from trying to force those superhuman powers out of their DNA? Deadpool, for example, who had shown up roughly two months ago with two deadly swords, a shitload of guns, and a crayon drawing of a guy named Francis. Peter had done his best to stay out of the guy's way, but from what he could gather, he wasn't a born mutant.

[personal profile] aggravated 2016-04-11 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Things were getting stranger and stranger and stranger around here. Bruce gave a faint wince at the mention of Oscorp - oh yes, he had heard about that. Read the information in the paper about who supposedly stopped things, though he wondered more about that. He knew through Tony a little more about Deadpool, given that Tony had been angry and curious about that whole situation. Still, this talk was... worrisome, in a way. "Hypothetically, I agree with you. I think that's very much a possibility. However, the best choice would be to alter the treatment so that it won't affect that potentially explosive part of human DNA, though of course radiation is.. well. Unstable, and more so, something we're still learning about."

He took a breath, trying to think quickly on what to do with this topic. "Unlocking this change.. this trigger within people is most likely never going to go well," Bruce said cautiously, knowing well within himself this was true. "No human body is meant to handle such a drastic change so quickly and while it can recover," he tapped his temple, "the mind is less likely to do so. That's why even chemo has to be balanced and made sure the patient's mental statement remains strong when their body is weak. These powers are... ten fold, a hundred fold that."

[personal profile] spideyguy 2016-04-11 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"That might not be possible. My friend - " Peter almost falters for a moment, but catches back up to himself. "She worked at Oscorp, and the dosage they were testing was very, very low. Maybe there's a susceptibility factor to a person's reaction? Just as some people have varying degrees of allergic reactions to their environment."

Peter frowned, now, wondering briefly about his own change. What made his reaction different from the professor's? It was all so shrouded in mystery and unknowns. And as for mental state...Peter is hard-pressed to imagine Deadpool attending any type of therapy. "Do you think the damage to their cells is irreversible? And...who's pursuing this area of study, now that Oscorp has abandoned it?"

Because if no one was - it could get out of hand very quickly, when they didn't have the resources to cope with it.

This was quickly going down a road Bruce wasn't sure he wanted to tread and more so, had a little bit too much connection to as to ever remain partial. Still, that small slip of the tongue told him much; this was personal to this young man as well. 'My friend' - someone who had been a part of that accident at Oscorp had been been close to him. Had he been interested in this area before the accident, or was that a small lie in order to try and find more information when he had little? It wasn't exactly as if there were many experts in this area in the world.

Bruce's lips thinned and he glanced out to the classroom, but the other students had left. Not as much interest as he had hoped in his lecture, but then again, this was proving already to be more than expected. He knew whatever he said could potentially be taken in ways he wouldn't hope at all for. "...I believe... that the human body is incredibly resilient. Incredibly and sometimes impossibly so. We are built in a way that we heal from something that would kill even animals we consider stronger or faster or more deadly than ourselves. However, at the same time, DNA is a vastly different creature. A single bit of damage to DNA can turn a cell into cancer, for example. The drastic changes that have taken place... I am not sure they could be cured."

Nothing he had done had made a blind bit of difference in his own DNA, yet the military had taken his DNA and made it into a monster.

"Though," he kept up quickly, "cannot be cured doesn't mean couldn't be helped. Can't live proper lives, even if things must be done to help them. Just as we live with diseases and afflictions, so to can be done for others to live in peace." his lips thinned again. "...though I worry someday, as this is continuing, perhaps that might not be true for everyone."

"A pleasure, Mr. Parker." A warm smile, hoping he managed to impress something into the lad. He stood up, closing his laptop and tucking it into the shoulder bag he brought. Then, suddenly, a thought crossed his mind. He turned back and studied Peter for several moments, then perked up as a thought crossed his mind. "If your interests line down this path... maybe we should talk again? The work I'm currently doing is along a similar path... if you'd be interested to see something currently in the field."

Somewhere else, Deadpool sneezed and scowled, looking up at the sky. "Okay, who's talking about me, could you stop?"

Peter turned back to collect his bag from his seat, pausing when Bruce called out to him. "I'd love to. That would be - really, really incredible." Getting into any type of lab would be awesome. His smile is easy and bright at the prospect. "I think I have a business card somewhere - "

There's a moment of fumbling in his bag before Peter manages to retrieve a card from his bag. Aunt May had them made up cheaply on some website. Mostly for his photography, but it had all his contact information.

He was a little surprised at himself to offer it, but maybe there was a little of himself in this young man and if he could guide that towards something better, somewhere better than he had fallen to, then it was his duty to do so. When Peter offered over the card, he took it with a quiet 'thank you' and quickly scanned the information, then pulled out his wallet and slipped it into the little leather billfold. "Photograher?" he questioned, curious about that. Cards for photography, usually the sign of someone who wanted to fall into that line of work, yet here he was in university for something vastly different. The shoulder bag's strap was tugged up over his shoulder as he waited for Peter to get this things together.
