[ into each life some rain must fall. ]

caught in the rain

it started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. time to find cover. nothing much to do but to wait it out.

scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i. WHERE;
001 PLAYGROUND - well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

ii. HOW;
001 TREE - not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - most conventional... kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - not permanent, but it'll have to do. good luck.
004 BAG - well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - you know what. you're a rebel. you don't need cover. screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.

iii. WHY;
001 REJECTED - welp. rejection sucks. and no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - for the bus? for someone else? for some revelation? what are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - is everything going your way? are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? just singin. singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO RAIN.
006 WILD CARD - anyway you want it.

>> POST with your character
>> TAG others, use rng if you need to, or just make up your own scenario if you want!
>> HAVE FUN.

[ Grey skies by the quayside isn't an uncommon sight, though Lindsey hadn't expected the storm to hit quite so soon, her morning newspaper falling victim to the rain as quickly as she did. ]

Oh, really?

[ Her timing really sucks, she muses, running back towards the awning of the shops nearby. ]

[It's always amused him, a little, how willing most people are to ignore perfectly obvious warning signs. How shocked they are when things happen to them that could have been avoided had they only been paying a little more attention. Like stormclouds. Like thunder. Like rain.

It amuses him considerably more when he's not one of those people caught unawares by something completely preventable.

It's been less than a minute and he's soaked through three layers deep on his shoulders, his hair damp even beneath the hood of his sweatshirt when he stuffs himself into the alcove of a photography gallery open only on Sundays. It is not Sunday, so he sorts himself out on their (barely) covered porch step and tries to pick a more likely place to escape, maybe some place with food or drink or a book he could wait this out in, when suddenly he's not alone.
]

Oh! Sorry, I uh - here, let me move over.

No, no. It's fine, really. There's enough room for both of us.

[ Carefully, so as to not get anyone wetter than they already were, she starts brushing off her coat, the rain leaving dark damp patches. The newspaper is definitely a lost cause, but it'll do as a towel for now.

A glance back towards the road; she can barely make out the other side of the street, the rain is coming down so hard.

Wait a minute... she looks up suddenly, eyes snapping to the person she'd thought was a stranger. ]

You! You're in town.

And didn't call.

[Having had more time to dry off, he figures it out before she does; he spends the time it takes her to catch up staring dumbly, caught between unexpected pleasure and a paralyzing kind of guilt. Both are relatively new to him.

Then she's looking at him and pointing out exactly what he was already thinking about, and he's quick enough on his feet to offer her his absolute best sheepish smile.

My phone got wet?

And what, you didn't remember my number?

[ Somehow, she doesn't believe that particular factoid to be true. She rolls her eyes, smiling down at the floor.

Just because his "career" has its quirks doesn't mean she has to make her peace with it. Not entirely. ]

You know, sometimes I wonder how long it would take you to find my new number if I changed it. Not enough to actually try it, but I wonder.

[ She straightens, clasping her hands in front of her, looking him over. The dampness is unavoidable, but she can't tell if he's fine or not from the way he holds himself.

She decides to bulldoze her way onwards. ]

So, how are you? And do you have time to have dinner or something?
andyougoleft: (Smile: Laugh)

do you need me to rough it up

[personal profile] andyougoleft 2014-05-07 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Finding it? Less than a day.

Freaking out over why you changed it, deciding it's because you don't want to talk to me anymore, deciding it's because you're in trouble, thinking again maybe it's me, driving by three times, and then finally calling it? Considerably longer.

[Slevin is not without his charm, he knows, because he uses it all the time with what he does for a living; he is capable of laying it on thicker than he is, currently, but he's not trying to con Lindsey. He is, in fact, being bluntly sincere.

He's okay, for now, shaking the excess water out of his neck-length hair; he thinks about telling her he was going to call, which he was. He thinks about telling her he may not be in town long enough, which is why he didn't. He thinks they all sound like flimsy excuses and, anyway, she's already let him off the hook. Until she hasn't, that is, but he'll never see it coming either way, so he just smiles at her.
]

Better now. And that's not just a cheesy pick up line.

If you're willing to be seen with me, sure, I think I can work something out.
deceptivelytall: ([Buzz] Long jacket)

it would be appreciated!

I'll remember to give you a heads up, if that happens then. Though that would depend on you actually finding the message.

[ Be it voicemail, text or email. She knows that some lines of communication are more dependable than others, when if comes to finding him - but it feels a lot like Russian roulette. Though she has bigger issues to worry about than just reaching him.

Head tilted, she smiles. It's sort of cute - the way he's going on about it. ]

Once the rain lets up, we can go. There's a couple of restaurants I've never been to, and I feel like being adventurous.
andyougoleft: (Smiling: Goofball)

I can do this thing B|

[personal profile] andyougoleft 2014-05-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He figures he's safe, as long as she's smiling. As long as she thinks he's kind of cute. Safer, any rate, from the kinds of things a man like him doesn't have a backup plan for.

He smiles back at her, just the bright side of teasing.
]

What, you're afraid of a little water? You want to wait for it to let up to feel adventurous?
deceptivelytall: ([Yeah] Shines like justice)

Yes you can! *\o/*

[personal profile] deceptivelytall 2014-05-14 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't believe your oh so special training makes you impervious to the cold.

[ She mock pouts. If there was such a thing as never having to feel cold, he's been holding out on her.

But seriously, sitting around in wet clothes is one of the worst feeling. ]

I want to enjoy dinner, not be uncomfortable for the entire period of time we've got together. Anyway, if I wanted to have fun being wet, I would take a shower or something.

[ She waves a hand dismissively. It could be taken as a challenge, she supposes. ]
